Why is very long (about 30 seconds) to connect another distant computer using Screen Sharing under Yosemite ?

Hello,
Before Yosemite (under Mavericks and less), it was possible to connect immediately another distant computer (over internet) with Screen Sharing (using Command-K or on Finder Menu-Go and submenu Connect To The Server, and putting the address like vnc://name:password@address
Under Yosemite, it is possible to do the same things, but it takes about 30 seconds to get connection (is it the evolution of the celerity of the computing ?). And also, I have 2 windows during the waiting of connection : one is with icon of ScreenSharingApplication and 'Connecting to        …com', and the second one is with icon of a BlueHardDiskwith3people and 'Connecting…'.
Under Yosemite, if I use Chicken of the VNC or JellysFastVNC, the connection is immediately.
Could you tell me how is it possible to have under Yosemite a quick connection (about 0 to 5 seconds) with a distant computer (over internet) using Screen Sharing (command-K for example) ?
Thanks.

William,
Eventually (after about 30 hours or so) it finished the encryption.  I then forced TM do a backup to the external HDD (after adding a 1GB file to my internal HDD) just to measure how long it would take for TM to run a backup to the external disk -- and it was very fast.  Looks like everything is working fine now.
Without your advice that 24+ hours wasn't unreasonable time for a first encryption of a drive that size,  I probably would have kept restarting my iMac and repartioning the external HDD and gone around in circles.
Thank you very much.

  • My 5th gen Ipod won't do anything but show the " Connect to your computer, use itunes to restore" screen. However my computer nor anyone else's will recognize my ipod. What can I do?

My ipod will not do anything but show a screen that asks to "connect ipod to computer, use itunes to restore" My computer however will not recognize my ipod at all so there is no way to restore my ipod. I am not skilled in computers but if anyone has a step by step that would be great.

Did you try a hard reset with the iPod still connected to your PC?  Have you tried multiple USB ports, preferably high powered USB 2.0 ports?
To do a hard reset, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Have you also worked through each and every single troubleshooting suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • My ipod says "connect to your computer. use itunes to restore."

My ipod says "connect to your computer. use itunes to restore."
So I plug it into the computer and itunes says it needs to restore, so I click restore, everything seems to go fine, and it says the ipod needs to restart, it does, has a lil progress bar go across the ipod screen, then itunes detects the ipod again and says it needs to be restored again. This is an endless loop, anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?

  • "Connect to your computer, use iTunes to restore" loop! Please help!!

Everytime I try to turn on my iPod, it gives me the "Connect to your computer, use iTunes to restore" message so I use iTunes to restore but once it's "done" restoring, it tells me the iPod is still in Recovery Mode and needs to be restored. Someone told me to change the file to a Fat32 file but it's already a Fat32. Someone else suggested to change the drive letter but , unless I'm not doing it right, that's not working either. Any other suggestions?? Thanks!

Yes, it does need to recognize the iPod in order for you to do something like this.

  • Plz help! my ipod no longer gets charged when connected to my computer

as the topic suggests, my ipod with video(5.5G) always shows that its fully charged when connected to my computer. but it wasn't like this a period of time ago, i wonder why. plz help me. i now dare not to transport more than 1g files to my ipod in case it would run out of battery and sth worse may follow...
since my computer is old with a celeronA 533(overclocked to 760, not a big difference), i closed lots of the system services which i think are useless, maybe that's the problem? but which service should i start? ipodservice.exe is always running when i connect my ipod with my pc
btw, i must say sorry with my poor english, hope you understand what i mean

If you mean that when plugged in it shows the iPod being fully charged but when you disconnect the battery is actually dead, then you probably have a defective battery.

  • Can't connect using screen sharing app

This has been an ongoing issue for a long time.  Some days I can connect from my macbook pro to mac pro, both running mountain lion using the screen sharing app - some days I can't,  Rebooting doesn't seem to help.  I can always connect by opening finder, selecting the machine and clicking share screen.
EVERYTHING is configured properly - which is why it works some times.  I've had similar problems between other combinations of mac mini, imac as well.  The error I get is:
"Please make sure that Screen Sharing (in the Sharing section of System Preferences) is enabled on the computer to which you are attempting to connect. Also make sure your network connection is working properly."
    Is this so hard?
    me

Using screen sharing at transcontinental distances is commonplace; there's no "other networks" setting here.
There's the IP network and firewall and ISP network configuration, and whether that (in aggregate) allows connections from elsewhere can connect to reach port 5900 (TCP) or whatever you're using.
And whether screen sharing is enabled on-LAN; via System Preferences on Client or via Server Admin on Mac OS X Server and punched through the applicable host-local and upstream firewalls, of course.
As for what IPsecuritas might be blocking or might be routing, you need ensure that passes port 5900 (TCP).

  • HT3819 I can use remote on my iPhone to connect with my iTunes library, but i can't connect to another computer using home sharing to access apple tv.  I have used the same access ID and password that is used for the apple tv.

I can use the Remote app on my iphone to connect with my itunes library on my computer, but I can't connect to the Apple TV using home sharing with another computer in the house.  I am using the same ID and password that the apple tv uses to connect with the other computer.  Also how do I check what version of IOS that my iphone is using?

    Version:
iOS Settings>General About (or it'll say when you hook it up to iTunes)
Are all the devices on the same physical network?  I think you're saying all are set up using the same home sharing credentials.
If you've not done so restart all devices and your router.
If you can get any of the devices connected by ethernet to reduce the wifi burden that may help but to be honest I would not expect simply beoing on wifi to prevent devices/computers appearing in the list.
Does the other computer have any firewall or port blocking software running?

  • ARD no longer shows "control computer", only "screen sharing avail"??

I have been running ARD for well over a year on my iMac to manage several servers that are located far away from me.
I normally use the "copy" feature to push new zip files of our Web site to the server when it is updated. When logging into ARD today, I noticed all the servers are no longer showing "Control". Instead they all have "Screen Sharing Available" listed in the current status column. When I go to copy my files from my local machine to the servers, I get an error: "This Task Will Fail - The remote desktop software is not active on www.servername.com".
However if I select a server and then click the control button, I can still connect to the server fully and work with it?
This has never happened before and I am at a loss as to the issue. I have had some changes to my local setup recently that may be the cause of the problem.
    1) Linksys router died, replaced it with a Apple Airport Extreme.
    2) Keychain got corrupted. Deleted the login.keychain file to rebuild a new one.
I have restarted my iMac several times, and even restarted the servers to see if this would clear up the problem. No luck.
If I try and drag-copy my zip files to the servers from my local machine after connecting via ARD, the window that asks if I want to send the file ignores my click on the "send" button and does nothing? Before this problem occurred I could easily drag-copy items.
Does anyone know what could be causing this to occur or how I can reset/fix my ARD clients and servers?

Okay I have figured out part of the problem and fixed it, although one issue still persists.
I fixed the "Current Status" issue for my servers by adding port 5900 & 3283 to the port forwarding settings in my Airport Extreme via the Airport Utility application. I don't remember having port forwarding turned on for my (now dead) Linksys router, but I could be mistaken.
Now I have a different problem. When I go to "copy" a file from my local machine to a remote server, I get a message that says "This task will fail: A console user is not logged in on www/servername/com"
If I log into that computer first, I am able to copy items, but I remember being able to copy items to my remote servers before without having to first sign into them? Am I mistaken on this or have I uncovered another problem?
    Any help appreciated.

  • Connecting to office computer remotely using screen sharing app

How do I connect to my office computer using the screen sharing app in the system?
Are there complete instructions somewhere that I can read?
I have a computer at home and at the office, both with sbcglobal router connections to the internet. I have read that /System/CoreServices/Screen Sharing.app will allow you to connect to computers over the internet, but the article I read did not have much detail.
So say my work router hardware internet address is 123.12.23.123
When the window open after I click Screen Sharing, do I put that address in there?
Is there a port I need to open at the office?
Is there some internet address for my computer besides the sbc 172.12.1.23 address that I should use instead?
Screen sharing has a computer setting under sharing "VNC viewer may control screen with password: abcdefg"
Where do I find more information about Virtual computer networking and how I can do it with my may and the software apple provides.
    I appreciate your help.

The only way I have been able to do this is to use logmein.com to access my office computer, then using iChat, accept the invitation to share my office screen. One connected, I can log off logmein.
Has anyone found an easier way?
    Thanks

  • How long does it take to import a library using home sharing?

I have about 82GB of music on an older iMac and want to import it permanently into the iTunes on a newer iMac but have never done this before.
Before I start, I'd like to know if I'm going to be tying up my computers for a week!
Should I go for the whole 4,000-plus songs at once, or should I try to plod through playlist by playlist and tell it each time not to import songs that may already be in the new computer.  (If I do that, will the song show up in the playlists anyway?)
How have other users approached this with large libraries and what has their experience been like?  I'm so glad there's a community here to share their experiences and help other Apple owners!
Thanks so much for any and all responses!

To transfer your songs, don't use Home Sharing. It uses your network to transfer the songs, and it will be so slow (days or weeks to transfer 82 GB).
Instead, you can copy the whole iTunes library to an external disk and transfer it to your new iMac > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751 This is much faster and useful, because you will transfer all your iTunes data from your old Mac, not only songs
