Why is Windows 7 showing firefox tabs open on a single window as multiple firefox windows on the taskbar?

if i open an extra tab, an extra firefox icon gets added to the taskbar (stacked icons turned on) If i close a tab, an icon disappears.

You can try to set some browser.taskbar.lists.* prefs to false on the about:config page.

I'm not on Windows 7 so I don't know which effect those prefs have.

Sounds that Windows thinks that the Alt key is (still) pressed.
Does it help if you press all status keys (Shift, Ctrl, Alt) a few times?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Sounds like Firefox is "hanging at exit". That problem is frequently caused by an Extension or a Plugin. Read all of the following articles. 
NOTE: Establish a habit of exiting/closing Firefox with Firefox button > Exit or File > Exit to allow an orderly shutdown of Firefox and closing of all of the files that Firefox has open.

I am showing 9 tabs open and I cannot access other websites (they are grayed out when I clock on them). How do I close tabs?

I was working on calendar and opened too many tabs. I am showing 9 tabs open and it affects other sebsites I am now trying to access. The webpage is grayed out and non-accessible. I do not need all the tabs. How do I close them?

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Firefox prints pieces of a single page on multiple pages. For example, if a page is only one page long in IE, it will print one page. But if I print the same page in FF, it will print 5 pages, and each page would have a different section of the original web page. Same thing is valid for web images. I have tried upgrading to the latest version of FF 3.6.12, and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling my print driver (Brother MFC-7420), and have tried rebooting my PC, and have tried changing the print settings from within the Printer's menu and the Firefox print settings.

Check the paper size that is selected in your printer's preferences when viewing those prefs through Firefox. Or maybe the left & right page margins are set unusually wide for that printer within Firefox.

I used to be able to have different windows and tabs open in Firefox & if I quit Firefox, I was first asked "Save & quit?" so that all of my windows & their respective tabs opened again. After this last update it doesn't do that anymore. Why?

Sometimes I have tabs open that I only need for a short time and I don't want to bookmark them. I want my windows & tabs restored as the were and I can't get this by simply restoring session after I've had to close Firefox for an update of something else on my computer.

Sorry, Firefox 4.0 is driving me nuts in many ways, this is just one of them.

Why does the Welcome to firefox tab open with my google tab every time I open the browser? And why can't the browser hold any add-ons I downloaded? I loose then when I close the browser, even tool bars have to be reinstalled every time I open the browser

Every time I open the browser the Welcome to Firefox tab is the first tab, then a second tab opens and thats my google, then a 3rd tab opens for me to reinstall my toolbar. This has been happening for a good year. Updates have not fixed it. Others have this problem. I did a search for an answer, the question is out there but no answer. Now if I go into add ons and add a background Theme or an extension it all is gone when I exit the browser. When I open the browser again I get all 3 tabs and have to install my toolbar again. I DO NOT want to reinstall as I will loose all my saved data, passwords, bookmarks, everything! I have had this computer for a year, Windows Vista x64 bit. Its not the computer, it's the browser. Firefox 4 opens multiple windows (15-25) when opening and only once in a blue moon will remember the tabs from the previous session in the first of the multiple windows.

When I open Firefox 4 from either the icon or from a link from e-mail or some other place, multiple windows open up. Usually between 15 and 25 of them. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate on both my laptop and desktop and have the same issue with both. I tried disabling the plug-ins one by one since they were all up-to-date, to no avail. My laptop has an upgraded version of Windows while my desktop has a clean install. I tried uninstalling Firefox 4 and going back to 3 and then the same thing started happening withe v3 when it wasn't before. Only sometimes, on rare occasions, will the first window that opens have my tabs from the previous session. Most times all the windows have one blank tab. The first one I can tell 'cause it does not have the orange Firefox menu button (since I'd chosen to show the Menu Bar) while the first window shows the menu bar. The troubleshooting info is from my laptop only.

Unless the schedule it's running on is every single time I open Firefox (including closing it & reopening it right away), I don't think that's the case. Also, I don't have any of these issues on the PC I switched back to v3.6 on. That one runs smoothly whether I run Ccleaner, registry optimizers, clear the cache & history or whatever. I thought after you first gave me the answer of deleting the session files that they must've got corrupted during the upgrade, but it seems that v4 just doesn't do a good job of retaining or maintaining those files without getting them corrupt or something.
If this is not an issue with everyone & I'm having it on both my PCs, then v4 has an issue with something that I install on my PCs that, I guess, many others don't although I don't know what that could be and I use everything I install or have running. So, I'm just going back to what works without having to dismantle my config one prog at a time to try to find what v4 may be finicky about.
By the way, I did check & couldn't find any cleaners that run automatically on my PCs.

Old version showed all tabs open. How do I find them on new version

The older version of Firefox showed all the URLs open at the same time underneath the favourites toolbar. Annoyingly the new version only shows thje tab for the URL you are actually on. How can I replace the older feature

It is still possible to have multiple tabs open. By default these may now have moved higher up the screen. There is also the option to use what was the panorama feature now called tabs groups.
I am using an XP and firefox 4 and later. I still have multiple URLs in separate tabs lined up across the top of the screen, and can have teem above or below the bookmarks (favourites) toolbar. I am not sure what you are doing, maybe you are using tabgroups.

When I open firefox, tabs open that describe new firefox features

Today, when I opened firefox for the first time and every time since then, I have clicked on the firefox icon and several different tabs open. Each one includes information about different things that are "new" to firefox such as WOT, google chrome, etc. I have closed each one, I have closed all at once, I have tried disabling them. Nothing has worked, every time I open firefox again, those 5 or 6 tabs open again.

You can check if you have an user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

I've Thinapped Office 2010 Professional Plus SP2 with an Internet Explorer entry point. (Thinapp version 4.7.3)
Made some changes in the registry so .doc and .docx files will open in the virtual IE browser.

My document opens in the browser as expected but, at the same time an empty grey Word window appears at the background.
The grey window shows not all the time when opening a .docx or .doc file , this is whats so strange about it.
Sometimes when i open the .doc or .docx file it opens without the grey empty word window. It seems like it's happening randomly.
I also tested it out with .xlsx files (Excel) but this go's all well.
Before i forget, this all runs on a Windows 7 Enterprise environment.
Does anyone know what causes my problem, or can anyone help me?

The new Firefox Start Page - '''about:home''' - isn't the same homepage that was used in earlier versions of Firefox - http://www.google.com/firefox There is no "setting" for the "Search Container" on the about:home "page" - in the Options UI or in about:config .
Set that old "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" as your "homepage".

Why when I have 3 tabs open and when I close one tab, all tabs shut down and crashes? The it asks me to restore or not? How do I fix this issue?

Try to disable Norton addons in Firefox. They will be releasing an update at the end of the month to fix these crashes.

Firefox tabs opened on mobile device does not display on Firefox Desktop

I have open tabs on my mobile device and then I go to see them on my firefox installed on my laptop through History>tabs from other devices. However, this page does not list the tabs from my mobile device.
