It is hard to insert photos properly in Pages.
I was trying to insert several photos into 1 pages file, but when I moved the photos, these were getting no order.

"Why is it hard to insert photos properly in Pages?" Because it is a stunningly buggy, poorly designed, and feature-starved piece of software. It was the removal of features that first captured most users' attention, but it has gradually been dawning on people that 1. the software really is shockingly buggy and 2. just not well designed: the new format panel, e.g., is not just a screen-real- estate hog, it makes even the simplest formatting MUCH more difficult. The design for iOS devices is actually much easier to use. Pages for the Mac really is, as one early reviewer put it, an "unmitigated disaster." It is every bit as bad as the Apple Maps app, but I guess no one much cares about word processing, or maybe it's just that most who do use Word. More and more people who used to use Pages will be doing that in the future.

Rather than do that, which means starting over from scratch, losing all your edits, organisation and so on, why not simply use iPhoto Library Manager to revert the Library to the older version? Easier, less destructive.

If you really want to start over: you can access the Originals folder simply by going to your Pictures Folder and finding the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.

That's exactly what's happening with me as well. Evidently a recent iTunes update caused the problem, which is with version 11.0.2.26. Since I asked my question I found a thread on the same topic that is six pages and started last December. Apparently Apple became aware of the problem initially, sent an update that fixed it, then updated again recently without the fix. Maybe they'll get around to fixing it again soon. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
- Did it ever work properly?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.

Can't find some albums when trying to insert photos into other programs

I am having trouble finding albums (and thus pictures) when trying to insert photos into a Word document or upload to mySpace/ facebook etc.
After choosing 'insert<picture<from file<pictures<iPhoto Library' , I have the option of looking into the year-month-date or by album. Since I have a better memory of the 50+ albums I have created rather than their dates, I choose "Albums". This list only contains about half of my albums (with folder icons) and it appears outdated...ie one of the albums no longer exists in iPhoto and has been changed to a folders with several albums in it.
I'm wondering why this is happening or how i can update the album list. I realize i could use the year-month-day thing but that is too frustrating.

iPhoto 5 now stores the Album information in a data xml file. The Albums folder within the iPhoto Library folder is no longer used. At some point, usually after a rebuild, you will no longer have that folder in the Finder.
If you need to access photos from an album it is very difficult for a third party application to navigate the iPhoto Library in order to find the photo you need. You will have to know the date of import in order to find the photo.
There are some third party applications that can read the xml file and can navigate the iPhoto library and show you the Albums. Hopefully more applications will be revised to read this file.
Until then you will have to Share/Export the photos to the desktop. You can then navigate to the desktop to use the photos (example: web uploading from online photo site)
If your application supports drag and drop, you can drag the photo from an open iPhoto Library window into your application.
For email you can also use the email icon within iPhoto to open a message with the highlighted photo attached.
You can also use spotlight to find images in an Album...
This is what I have done using Spotlight to find my images that are in iPhoto albums without opening iPhoto..
In iPhoto, select the album, then select all, go to Photos/batch change.
Change the comments to text. In the text field I put the name of the Album.
Do this for each album.
Close iPhoto.
Open Spotlight and put in the name of the Album ( you have to remember the names of the albums or have then written down)
In the spotlight search results. click on "show all"
Under "Images" click on the "xx more" to show all the images in the album.
Make sure you have it in icon view, the icon view box is the last one on the blue images line.
Now you can control click on the image to "reveal in finder", open in iPhoto or Mail, etc.
I am not sure if this is going to make you happy and it is a little more work, but you can find images in albums and even view them in a slideshow (by clicking the play arrow at the end of the Images highlighted blue line) using Spotlight, all without opening iPhoto.
One important thing to know is you can set up a graphic program to be an external editor (when you double click an image in the library} such as PhotoShop or PS Elements. You set up that within iPhoto Preferences. Just make sure you save the image flattened and with the same name. The edits will then be relected in iPhoto when you hit "save".

Problems viewing RAW photos properly in Photoshop/Lightroom/ACR

Hey folks. New here and looking to find some assistance with a problem I'm having in Photoshop CS4, Lightroom 2 and Adobe Camera Raw 5.7 when attemtping to view RAW photos straight from my Canon 450D. My computer is a Mac PowerPC G5 running OS X 10.5.8 with a single 1.8Ghz CPU and 3.5Gb of RAM. Photoshop CS4 is version 11.0.2. Lightroom is version 2.7. Adobe Camera Raw is version 5.7.
What I am having problems with is viewing RAW photos from my camera in all of these applications. No problems are encountered with any other file type such as PNG or jpg.
I have attached a screen capture of what I am seeing when I open a .CR2 RAW image in Camera RAW before opening in Photoshop. As you can see, the software seems to be having a difficult time rendering the photo properly. I can view these files on other computers using the Canon software that came with my camera. I get this same problem if I view the image in Lightroom.
As far as I know, I can't upgrade to PS CS5 or LR 3 because I am still running on the PPC architecture, so I need to find how to fix this without having to buy a Mac Pro and the newest software.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot? If the screenshot is too small, I can provide the full-res version.

I'm well-versed in forum ettiquette, thank you. I do, however, see no problem why posting about this problem once in each forum covering the software involved in my problem would be an issue. If I posted about the problem in only one forum, let's say in the Lightroom forum, and the problem was experience by another person who did not use Lightroom and would not be browsing the Lightroom forum for help, how would they have come across this post? Unless they also looked in the Photoshop forum, they might not have seen this post. So where's the harm in having it viewed by a greater number of individuals?
With that aside, my problem is now resolved. After looking around a bit more on the forums here last night, I came across a thread started by a fellow who was experiencing the same issue as I, except he had newer versions of the software. Someone had replied to his post suggesting that it could have been faulty RAM modules and that they once experienced similar issues which were resovled by replacing the RAM. This was good news to me, since I had just purchased additional RAM for my Mac last week. It arrived today and I installed it and booted the Mac up. I purged any cache files used by these three software titles and then reattempted opening a RAW image in Photoshop. I took my latest RAW images from my camera, exported them to a USB thumb drive, and then from there exported them to my Mac. I tried to open on of the images in Photoshop and it opened successfully with ACR along with a complete and pristine preview of the image. Open the other RAW images in Lightroom, no problems.

My table has a default value for a column which is not null.
(sysdate for the record creation date).
When I insert a record through SQLPlus without selecting this
column, this columns gets populated with the sysdate. The same
works with Forms 4.5 also.
But when I do the same thing with JDeveloper, the database is
throwing back an error ORA-01400 Null cannot be inserted in to
the database.
The Query statement in the error (BEGIN INSERT...) shows all the
fields in the table, though I haven't chosen the created date
field. (nor a couple of other fields). Why JD is trying to
insert values to the fields that are not there in the query and
not selectd.
Now what do I do with this??
Can u tell me whether this JDeveloper tool is meant for
developing serious applications.

Bug for sure!. Because this tool is full of them! What I would
like to know is the possibility of getting a patch. Is there any
plan?
One more thing. I think I have understood what is happening in
this situation. Irrespective of what columns I select in the
query, the entire metadata about the table comes and sits in the
xml file. In my specific case, I tried to delete the attribute
for created date from the xml file. Still it was trying to insert
the value. Later, I found the notnull constraint in the xml file
for this column. When I deleted that attribute also, it worked
properly. I suspect that the insert statement is created by
parsing the xml file. In that case the bug is not in IB data
access layer. It is in creating the xml file itself.

Why doesn't my iPhoto library sync properly to my iPhone and iPad? I have already tried deleting the iPod photo cache. I sync the entire iPhoto library, which includes about 8,000 photos. The Events and Albums never match up, with many missing photos in most albums and events.

Thats is how I did it originally and tried it that way again but it never brings in my library. Now it gives me a response saying it doesn't have correct permissions. I'm the only user on the iMac. I did recently move the library from my old iMac iPhoto with no trouble.

When I use Preview,Photo Mechanic and Pages, all JPEG or RAW images appear corrupted. I thought my hard drive was failing and replaced it and migrated everything over but the problem still exists. Any idea what is going on?

It felt as if maybe a virus was at work but I ran Sophos and found nothing.
I store images on my Drobo Raid system but when I work from my Macbook Pro I have no issues, just on the tower.
Any idea what is going on?

First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.

Why does iphoto not copy all photos when transfering

why does iPhoto not copy all photos from an event when im copy/pasting to an external folder on my mac(for later transfer). All softwares are up to date and ive only just realised it happens, but when i copy all pics in an event then paste in a folder, the pic count is substantially different. for example i select all pictures in an event called 'new1', the count of files is 188. i then copy/ paste to a folder, select all files and check 'info' and it says 141 files???
all i can see painstakingly going through to compare which images are in each place is that the ones that arent in my new folder , seem to be the ones ive edited in iPhoto?? conincidence? or am I missing something fundamental here? Ive only just realised this is occuring. The trouble is, after moving images to folders/hard drives I subsequently delete them from iphoto to keep my macbook airs HDD with some space. So basically all of the versions of pictures I want, i.e, the new edited and adjusted versions are no longer! NOT HANDY!

We've seen a few reports of this in the past while and no one is sure of the cause.
Use the File -> Export command. See this User Tip

means you are losing quality, metadata and the version of control. If you don't want these why use iPhoto at all?
You could just move the whole Library to an external:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Can't Sync Photos properly

I have the latest iTunes version and can't Sync my photos properly. Syncing doesn't remove the photos on the iPod and doesn't add new ones. It leaves things the same.I get a message about unable to Sync because it can't find the folder yet iTunes lists the selected folder and knows how many photos are in it. My music is still working fine and I can add songs.I've tried everything short of restoring the iPod. I don't want to have to load all the songs back on the iPod if I can avoid it. Any suggestions?

I was having similar problems. I'm not sure if my problem has the same solution, but here's what happened with me. I switched computers and needed to re-sync my iPod with the new computer. The new computer had my old computer's hard drive hooked up. I got the music to synchronize, finally, but no photos would synchronize. iTunes would say that it was synchronizing, but neither the hard drive nor the iPod's drive were spinning and there's was no status indicating progress in iTunes other than 'Synchronizing...do not disconnect'. After many hours of scratching my head, rebooting, trying various suggestions online, I hit upon it: I deleted the iPod Photo Cache in My Pictures on my computer's hard drive. I went back to iTunes, requested synchronization, and, Presto!, my pictures finally started whizzing over to the iPod.

Why won't you enable downloading photo from iPhone

I think it's annoying that every time I connect my iPhone to my Mac iPhoto pops up, and the worse thing is that I can't just download photos straight from the the phone to the computer.
So why do you make it so hard to drag photos from the phone to the iPhoto library?

Premier Elements 12, Inserting Photos into timeline, using transitions, inserting music

I have just recently switched from Premier Elements 8 to 12, after discovering that "expert" looked allot more like what I was used to I have been able to start a new project. However, I don't consider myself to be an "expert".
That said I have a few questions:
I used to be able to insert photos and rearrange them in the "sceneline", I do not see that feature in Premier 12 so am using the "timeline" that is there. However I cannot insert photos or move them around easily, I get my clips reducing in size. How can I insert new photos or move them?
Transitions seemed to have been reduced greatly in the availabilty of them, have they "gone out of favor", I had put a transition inbetween all of my clips in my previous projects with 8. Allot of them were merely the "wipe" feature. What is recommended with 12?
I have not gotten to adding music to this project however have noticed that there are allot of different styles available. However I want to be able to add my own music, can you give me tips on "how to do that", would I just go to the "add media" and get them off my computer and than add it to the audio line?

I am not sure why these photos should be reducing in size. It should be the same thing as in your older version, that is, as you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, with your mouse cursor drag you new file into place in the Timeline. Some people like to use the Ctrl key instead of the Alt key. I prefer the Alt key.
I prefer the Expert workspace rather than the Quick in version 12, but you can still move the images in the Quick Filmstrip spaces with a click and drag, left or right as appropriate. So, I am not sure what you ran into in the Quick workspace in that regard.

There are lots of Transitions under theTransition Tab when you are in Expert workspace, much less in the Quick workspace. This is what you should be seeing in version 12/Expert workspace/Transitions
This is what you had in version 8.0/8.0.1 under Wipes in Timeline view.

Same as before. Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets (if Expert workspace). The Quick workspace does not have that "intermediate" Project Assets. So, it is Add Media/Files and Folders/ and direct to a scene space in the Filmstrip. If you have iTunes music, it may have to be converted to .mp3 or .wav (again same as before).
However, if you are a SmartSound soundtrack user, the SmartSound feature is gone in version 12 which has it counterpart, under Audio Tab, of Music Scores and Sound Effects which end up on the Timeline as .wav files. If you have the old SmartSound soundtracks, they need to be converted to .wav and then the Premiere Elements 12 Add Media/

Why does my Apple Mail insert old messages into the body of new emails? The correct sender's name will appear in the "From" column, but an old message from a different sender in the body. This happens randomly. I have an iMac OSX 10.6.8. I recently had the hard drive cleaned, but Apple Mail seemed to be running fine when I set it up again. Could this be a virus?
