Why No Drag and Drop?

If I select, then click to drag an Apple Discussion message to the desk top, the selected section deselects and will not allow me to drag and drop.

If you make a selection, right on this page in this message box, and try to drag it to the desk top it does work. BUT if I start to drag at this top of the page with the words "Post Message: Reply", it will not D&D.
This inability to D&D happens about 80% of the time on this computer. It never happened on my G4 with Tiger.

If so - use Finder - View menu - Show View options & choose 'Arrange by' : none

Preferences - Universal Access - Mouse and Trackpad tab - trackpad options
tick the drag and drop box
I dont know why this option had been turned off but ticking this box restored the drag and drop function

The matter isn't closed for others coming to this thread looking for an answer. Repairing permisions is much easier than a reinstall. It worked for me.

Why do drag and drop images transfer as bmp instead of jpg?

If I use drag and drop instead of "right click/save as" the file is saved as a bmp file rather than a jpg file that it is intended.

Since this is on here a few times on a few threads here is the fix that worked for me on XP it should work on all platforms.
1. Back up the contents of your Firefox profile folder. (See Link Below)

2. Uninstall fire fox vand all personal info (book marks, passwords, cookies etc. remember you have all of thet backed up.) Via control panel.
3. Go look where it was installed and see if there is still a Mozilla Firefox folder if so then delete that too (make sure you have no other programs in that folder like Thunderbird)
4. Reboot.
5. Reinstall a fresh install of firefox.
6. Try dragging an image from a website to your desktop and see if it saves and a .jpg. If it works great it's fixed.
7. Now Restore your backed up settings, plugin etc... Look for your new profile folder and then overwrite the contents of that folder with the contents of your back up folder.
Now you can save the 3 hours it took me to figure out this solution.

With IPhoto it was possible to drag and drop to Adobe PHOTOSHOP. Now you cannot. When you export you lose the DPI of the camera and it goes to 72 DPI. This *****. Can it be fixed?

I had the same problem. Fixed it by repairing disk permissions with disk utility.

Why does drag and drop between instances of Safari not always work?

I can drag a link from one instance of Safari to another and then without reason, it just stops working. Yet, if drag the link in one window to the address bar of the second it works just fine. If I start a new instance of Safari I can drag to it just fine. If I start a new tab, I can drag to it fine (until it fails too). Any idea as what may cause this?

Can't drag and drop music onto iTunes...

Ok I just recently bought my first mac, a MacBook Pro. Transferred all my files (most importantly my music) onto an external hard drive from my PC, then transferred files from the hard drive to the mac and it all seems to be fine. However for some reason I can't seem to get my songs into iTunes. I tried scan for media and that just pops up saying 'processing' for a second then nothing happens...then I tried simply dragging my whole music folder into iTunes, it looked like it was doing something, again said 'processing' but nothing happened. My music folder is pretty big at 42GB, could this be the problem? My iTunes is up to date I just don't understand, can anyone help?

I don't know if this helps, but consider that the collection model comes from a ViewObject built on three EOs with many fields, although the table only shows one column.

I have not found any article that has answered this question. They have come up with things like open the side bar and it will work, or you are using wrong format of music. Now this all happened when I upgraded to iTunes 10 and has not worked since and it worked fine before. Music format is correct, I have even gone as far as copying a file already in iTunes and trying to add it again. As soon as the files enters the frame of iTunes the music files icon the pointer is carrying turns into a circle with a slash through it.
ITunes Ver. is 11.1.5.5 Windows Ver. is Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center
Files I have tried adding are standard MP3, 256 kbps purchased AAC Audio file, MP3 converted by iTunes into a 256 or 320 kbps AAC Audio file. None can be draged and droped but all can added by going to File/Add File to Library... or File/Add Folder to Library...

I can add files and folders by doing number 2 above but can not doing number 1
I have gone as far as uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling per apple procedures below.
Steps
1. Remove iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and restart your computer:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended effects.

I had this problem on Windows 8.1.1 and iTunes 11.2.2.3
To resolve it from within Itunes I did : Edit, Preferences, Sharing.
I took the tick out of "Share my library on my local network"
Click OK.
Closed iTunes/
Reopened iTunes and I can drag and drop.
I went back into Edit, Preferences, Sharing and put the tick back and clicked OK.
Works fine now.

I first connected the Touch to my desktop and it allows me to drag and drop mp3 files from my old Classic, which is backed up to a directory. Unfortunately, that computer has gone down before I got a chance to fill the Touch. I have the files on another computer but when I connect the Touch to it, it doesn't allow me to drag and drop the files. I have iCloud set on both systems and I have manual management check marked. I'm not understanding why it allows drag and drop on one PC and not the other when they are both set the same way. My question? What do I need to do to be able to drag and drop in iTunes 12? I didn't do anything special on the computer that allows it so I am at a loss.
