Why not Multi-Touch Gestures for iPad 1 Apple?

Why?????

I'm curious, what's buggy about the gestures? I've had an iPad 1 running multitouch gestures for months, and haven't noticed any issues. Granted, the gesture I use most of the time is the four-finger swipe-up to reveal recent apps, but I often swipe between Safari and iThoughts when doing research. *Love* the feature, and I'm staying at iOS 4 for the time being until I see what Apple's next move is on this. Other iOS 5 features aren't compelling enough to lose gestures, in my view.
One thing I've learned about updates: always let someone else be the first to adopt them, then check forums a day or two later to find out where the pitfalls lie. I would've been pretty peeved if I'd have read the copy on Apple's website that called out the gestures as an iPad feature rather than exclusive to iPad 2, then installed and lost gestures. People are justifiably ticked off about that, I think (and yes, I've sent feedback to Apple to share that opinion --- it can't hurt to try.)

  • Apple, why did you delete multi touch gestures for iPad in iOS5?

I have to say that this is a bit of a kick in the teeth. We spend all this money on Apple products, expecting software updates to add the he functionality of these devises - not to have really cool functions taken away... Why would you take this away? If it is a performance issue at least give people the option to turn it on or off.
Bring it back please in 5.0.1... Oh and fix all the bugs that had me deleting apple apps like 'find my phone' and reinstalling them from the app store...

Apple never included multitouch gestures in a consumer release of iOS before 5. You had to use developer tools to get them. So, from their standpoint, they never gave it to you in the first place.  But, at any rate, you're not addressing Apple here. Submit your feedback directly to Apple using the appropriate link on the Feedback page:

  • Multi-touch gestures for opening the tab groups

The regular shortcut for opening the tab groups is Ctrl+Shift+E. I'm wondering if there is a way to assign a multi-touch gesture to do this.
So for example, currently, browser.gesture.swipe.down is set to scroll to the bottom of the page. I love this! However, I don't use it very often and would instead like to reassign this gesture to open up the tab groups. Is this possible with Firefox 4? If not, I think it should be :)
    Thanks,
    Hristo

    Try <b>TabView.toggle</b>

  • Is there an official list of all multi-touch gestures for Lion?

    from Apple?

    >Open your user guide for the computer
Where is the guide? Stored inside the iMac or do you mean the little booklet that came in the box? Those little booklet don't have much information.
    > or open Trackpad preferences.
Not all gestures are in the Trackpad preference, for example, the 3 finger tab for word definition is not in there. This is the reason I wonder what other gestures might there be that I don't know.

  • Why can I not use multi-touch gestures on my original iPad with iOS 5?

Why can I not use multi-touch gestures on my original iPad with iOS 5?

It would appear that apple has managed to p1ss off  alot of ipad one users in one fowl swoop, what makes it worse is that fact we were the early adoptors who got asked, why do you want a big iphone for? and then spent time showing people how good it was! actually promoting it for apple! and then to get this kick in the teeth is frustrating! i wish i had known about xcode before!
    however!
keep sending feedback, i must have sent twenty yesterday and will keep sending them untill i get a reply from these idiots! and wont stop untill i do, the more feedback sheets we fill in the more they will have to listen, it takes less than a min, i just asking the same question! moaning on here wont do anything, feedback might
also note they have changed the website now, but they have not changed the iOS5 spash screen :
(•          AirPlay Mirroring for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S
              •          Multitasking Gestures for iPad
              ◦          Use four or five fingers to pinch to the Home Screen
              ◦          Swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar
              ◦          Swipe left or right to switch between apps)
clearly they were planning on releasing this update to us, otherwise on the spalsh screen it would have stated ipad 2 only, note in the sentence above it states it CLEARLY makes a reference to ipad 2 for airplay, so, whatever the problem, they can fix it and they know it works!

  • Why only one multi-touch gesture? (Suggestions for more)

The only multi-touch gesture is for rotating the screen. In having my nano for a week I've found it time consuming to get to where I want in the menus a lot of the time. A few more multi-touch gestures could solve this problem. I'd suggest one that takes you directly to the main home screen and a second that is the equivalent of hitting the "Now Playing" icon. They could be two finger swipe left for home and two finger swipe right for now playing.

    Hello Dustin,
Perhaps you should leave this as feedback to Apple through this link.

  • HT3702 why does Apple not go through PayPal for ipad game purchases?

why does Apple not go through PayPal for ipad game purchases that are in your PayPal bank account? Not everyone uses credit cards

The iTunes Store does allow purchases via PayPal, but only in the US. If you're in another country, PayPal is not available as a payment method.
    Regards.

  • Multi-Touch Gestures disabled on 1st gen iPad in iOS 5?

Apple, please fix this!!!  This is absurd!  Why on earth would you handicap 1st gen ipad owners?  There is no hardware limitation with the 1st gen, so why remove this from iOS 5 for ipad1?   As a developer who used xCode I enabled the new multi-touch gestures on my iPad and they were a great addition, and now to read that under iOS 5 they are no supported on first gen ipad is simply beyond me.   Outrageously stupid.  I already installed iOS 5 on my iPad.   So I am simply out of luck????

Please fix this Apple! I have been using them for a while and going back to not having them on my iPad 1 is VERY frustrating!
Productivity levels decrease while using the iPad in the "old school" way clicking the home button all the time to switch through apps. If gestures are to be non existent in iPad 1 I think it would be good to know the technical reasoning behind this. Also, the online documentation should be reviewed and promote this as part of iPad 2 and above, not iPads as described in:
    http://www.apple.com/ios/features.html
"iOS 5 includes a few new moves and shortcuts to help you get around even quicker on your iPad: Using four or five fingers, swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar, pinch to return to the Home screen, and swipe left or right to switch between apps."
Thanks and looking forward to a fix

A better solution is to try a number of better, free alternatives. Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice (free)
    OpenOffice (free)
I use Apple's Pages ($19.99) as well as OpenOffice and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • No gestures for iPad 1 in iOS 5? Apple, are you kidding us?!

    This is not fair.

I upgraded my personal original iPad to 5.0 trusting this functionality would continue to work(1). This is really disappointing since there is no reason why it would not work in the original iPad, it worked perfectly fine in 4.3.X when being a developer.
I worship apple products but it is really unpleasant when there are features that are being removed especially when it is my favourite feature.
Since my Home button is damaged, my iPad becames pretty much unusable now.
Please, reconsider this decision, it is a very bad marketing decision!

  • Can't get multi touch gesture on my ipad

I just downloaded the new iOS 4.3 software on my iPad and I got all the new updated features except the multi touch gesture. Is anybody else having problems and what can I do to get it?

Multi-Touch Gestures on the ipad were part of the original IOS 4.3 beta 1. Apple decided to remove Multi_Touch Gestures from the last two beta's and the final built of IOS 4.3. Multi-Touch Gestures may be a part of the operating system in future releases. the only way to enable Multi-Touch Gestures on the ipad is to be a developer using XCode. If you have Xcode and not a developer there is still a way to enable Multi-Touch but the iPad may suffer problems if your developer creditentals are not put in.

  • I installed Lion, but did not get the multi touch gestures feature. Also my "front row" is gone.

I installed Lion, but did not get the multi touch gestures feature. Also my "front row" is gone.

What model computer do you have? some early trackpads will not support all gestures.
Front Row was dropped by Apple in Lion. I beleive it can be recovered from Snow Leopard, I haven't tried it myself.

  • Pros and Cons to "booting" iPad 2 as developer to use multi-touch gestures??

    Just like it sounds...
I have a new iPad 2 that i would like to have more multi-touch gestures and have heard doing this will do it. Also, heard that possibly the new iOS 5 will have it already. So how exactly do i do this and what are the pros and cons.
    thanks,
    John

It should be enabled in iOS 5 later in the year - from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#more :

Because...it's already enabled (under Windows 8 systems)?
Is it not working on your Cintiq?

  • Why does not Adobe flash player for iPad ,This is a very big problem

Why does not Adobe flash player for iPad ,This is a very big problem ,I do not know why Apple is so Popular

but Adobe is, in fact, continuing to update Flash for Android.
Only essential bug and security fixes. No new feature updates have been released for 2 years.
Of course we have those who wish fervently that the lack of Flash supprt will damage Apple severely and obsess about it all the time.
I thought they'd realised it was a lost cause ages ago... they mostly seem to have disappeared from this forum, at least...
