Why so expensive?

I have a basic phone with a service other than Verizon, and get 100 minutes for $10 a month. The minutes roll over and it's more than enough minutes for me. Why does Verizon charge THREE times more? BTW ... the service I get uses the Verizon network. Plus, the Samsung phones they're charging $50 or $100 for online can be bought at Walmart for $1. Does Verizon want to make customers mad ... or do they just not care?

If that's all you need is talk and the coverage is good then stick to the service you have. Some people like my husband have to stick to Verizon. He just has a basic talk and text phone but has to be on Verizon as besides AT&T that is the only carrier that works where he travels to work every day since it's out in the boonies. I was on T-Mobile for a year with truly unlimited 4g data, unlimited talk and text and 3g mobile hot spot for $50 a month no contract but most times I only got 2g where I traveled and it was so slow it wasn't worth it but the calling and texting were good and I had to pay a high price for my phone since you get no phone deals and have to buy the phone out right and the good smart phones are expensive retail. Now at least the areas I go too with Verizon I get 4g lte or 3g which is much better. Mary

Leopard - why so expensive?

I am trying to get hold of an installation DVD of OSX 10.5 (Leopard). Since this is no longer the default OS for new Macs, I naturally thought that I could pick one up for a modest price. But No! Today's review of Ebay shows that this software is currently being offered at prices far higher that Snow Leopard. Have I got something wrong or can anyone say why a superceeded program is still so expensive? PS I cannot use 10.6 because the machine is not an intel

10.5 came in retail, upgrade (dropin), OEM, and system specific disc. A system specific disc should not be sold separately, unless it comes from someone whose computer was stolen or lost. It should be sold only with the Mac it shipped with, as that most of the time is the only Mac that can use it, and includes the lowest version of iLife and operating system that Mac can run. Upgrade discs generally are only good for Macs that shipped three weeks prior to the release date of the OS. Finally,
OEM may be something obtained by a developer at a trade conference, and not for resale. The retail Leopard looks like * and does not have any of the above labels or any Mac model name.

Photoshop CS6. Why so expensive?

Hi, I'm using the Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 6 Extended trail and was thinking of buying it, but after I saw the $1000 dollar price tag I said,"hell no!" Why is it so high? Is the technology very advanced? Are CS products desgined for use by big companies and such?

It's a commercial tool not primarily aimed at hobbyists. if you need as cheaper alternative, get PS Elementzs or try free tools like GIMP.

could someone from Adobe give me a real answer to this question?
Photoshop CS5 is 999$ in the US but....1434Euros in France!
If I use the current change rate, it should be something like 735 euros!!!
So, why do you simply multiply the price by 2?
(And please, don't tell me that the shipping in France and the translation of the manual cost 700 euros)

If this topic gets beaten to death every time a new version comes out, and every time there is the same answer that people don't seem to buy because - as I said - other companies seem to be able to handle the European market without doubling the price, even in France, then my guess is Adobe just doesn't seem to listen to customer feedback and milks the cow as hard as it possibly can. What would investors think if they would lower the price, right? That would be stupid of course.
I mean, the distribution costs are negligible for large quantities (comes down to a few cents per box). Digital download has a few cents of bandwidth costs. For the English version no translation costs apply. With the cheap dollar we had for the past years no exchange rate compensation is in order, on the contrary! The French government? Really? The only real reason is the sales tax. While US prices don't include tax, European prices mostly do. Sales tax ranges from 7.6% - 25%. Yep, fair enough.
Anyway, other companies seem to be able to cope with that. I haven't heard any of them whine about the French government. And mostly, as a customer I am free to buy and download the software from the US if I want to, which Adobe dogmatically prohibits. Yes, all companies charge a premium for the fragmented market and taxes in Europe, which I really can understand, but it's usually in the 10-20% area, and not 120%. Current EU price for CS5 Design Standard is 2021 Euro (= $2838). The US price is $1299! Spot the difference.
How sad to have angry customers who feel unfairly treated and want to live with that. As long as Adobe has the monopoly in the design industry, nothing will change. OK, why do they have the monopoly? Probably because they just create the best design software out there. I totally agree, their products are flat out awesome! Still, no reason to rip off their loyal European fans. We just feel unfairly treated. And we voice it every time - and then pay angrily. What choice do we have.

Why so expensive in Australia

After taking into account the current exchange rate, and the inclusion of GST. How come the outright purchase of an Phone 5S 64GB is $200 dearer in Australia than it is in the US.

There are many, many factors involved in how a product is priced in a given country. Exchange rates and local taxes are just one factor. There are labor costs, import duties, costs of shipping, warehousing, distribution, corporate taxes, etc. ext. You're also probably not factoring in the sales taxes charged in the US that are not reflected in the listed prices.
If you have a technical question, by all means post and we'll be glad to try and help. If you want to complain about pricing, though, this isn't the venue, so we'll need to leave it at this point.

Why is Creative Cloud so expensive in Europe

I've watched the Adobe conference and as an amateur photographer I was exited by information that Creative Cloud for photographers can now offer 99.9% of people as it costs $9.99 + tax only. Adobe "forget" to say that in Europe this subscription plan still costs the same 13Euro which is about $18.

Adobe Inc sets the price for the US, the other international offices set prices to suit their region. Many reasons for price difference have been given, few if any are plausible in the eyes of customers. The key point here is, the debate as to why one should be relatively more expensive than others has been going on for years, and will likely do so for years to come. Nothing we as customers have said in the past has made the slightest difference. So, instead of asking why so expensive in Europe ask yourself is the european Cloud deal better than the european perpetual license. Then choose the one that you feel offers better value.

Can't find Expense Report process in Find Process in Workflow - Urgent

Hi,
I have a submitted expense report. I tried to search for the Expense Report number in the Find Process window in Workflow administrator responsibility.
But it did not give me any result. When I query ap_expense_report_headers_all using below query for the same Expense Report number, i got the data.

Then i tried searching for the notifications recieved by the Approver of the Expense Report. Enter Approver Name in TO Field in Find Notifications window in Workflow Administrator resp. But no notifications are available in that approver list.
When i query in the APPS.wf_notifications table for notification from this process, i could find that the notification is in closed status.
Can some one help with the pointers, why the Expense Report is not displayed in Find Process window and Notification is not displayed in the Find Notifications window?

Try using the Status Monitor in the Workflow Administrator
use APEXP as the 'Type Internal Name'
change the 'Workflow Started' to 'Today'
The item Key for your workflow should be the expense report number, pick yours and drilldown in to the workflow to see where you it is waiting.

Yes , You can create for Expence Items. Whenever you want to Capitalize a Item (Expence or non Stockable Inventory Item ) you need to check the Ckeck Box called "Capitol Expense" at PO Line level (More TAB). This check will take care when recieve and Invoice. This will be created as Capitol Item when you Transfer from AP to FA.

Why I have to buy Lion Server and Lion for $83.98???

I want to upgrade my MAC OS X Server 10.6.8 to Lion Server......
But the App store insists I buy Lion as well... AND it has tried to charge me $83.98 for it.... (The Australian dollar is closely on parity with US dollar)..
So.. I already downloaded Lion.... and installed on my imac.... now I want to upgrade my server.. why do I have to buy lion again??? And why so expensive compared to the rest of the world??

For those that don't see the prompt to buy Lion + Lion Server again, there's no need to respond because you aren't having this issue and any obvious input, is just that.. obvious.
For those with this issue, Apple Care won't be able help you because it's a download issue and not an install issue and they suggested to contact the Mac App Store (iTunes Store) support for assistance. Sadly it's e-mail only and probably will take some time. You could try a clean install of SLS to upgrade to LS, but that still might not work. Other than attempting the pain of wasting a day to do a fresh install before the upgrade, I've tried logging out and back in with the Mac Store, created a second admin account and used the same AppleID and both still prompted me to Buy Lion+Lion server again.
For those that haven't clicked on the buy, I still hit an issue that preventing me from downloading the Lion Server after the 4GB Lion image downloaded. You will probably have to request the refund if you attempted this, but guessing you still won't be able to install. Also if you try to upgrade from SLS to just Lion, you will be prompted to buy Lion Server as well. So in the end, it's up to the Mac App Store e-mail to resolve this or perhaps I can attempt to do the clean install.

How can I install Logic Pro 8 on my OSX Lion?

Having had to do a clean install of OSX Lion I find I can't install Logic 8 on my system. I can't understand why an expensive in-house product that is only 4 years old can't be installed on the latest OS. Can't find any advice from Apple, and am still waiting for a call back fron the support line.
How can I get around this - I have already spent a day re-installing all my other software on Lion, so reverting to Snow Leopard is not an option.

USB working, not working, working?

i own a 2008 Mac Pro and have some problems with my USB Ports. I tried to find information on the internet but i was not able to solve the problem. I did everything from smc Reset to Parameter Ram Reset, Installing a New System, Reinstalling the Combo Update but nothing worked at long sight.
The trouble is, that some external USB Devices do not work on some of my USB Ports at my MAC Pro. Yesterday for example my original Apple Keyboard which was attached to the USB Hub at my DELL Screen stopped working while other devices still did their work. I plugged off all devices and tried different USB Ports and got the Keyboard to work on another port but afterwards my mouse did not work any more. The same problem occurs with my external WD passport USB Drive, my Iomega REV Drive and any other device. Some USB Ports work, some do not work. Some only work when they want to. The external WD USB drive used to be plugged into the front USB ports, where it worked perfectly until some months ago. I had to use another USB Port to get it to work but it also stopped working with the HDD some time later. Both of the Ports still work with my Ipod or Iphone but not with the HDD or other devices. I also tried to use a powered USB Hub which did not solve the problem on long sight. After setting a brand new leopard system, the WD HDD worked on one of the front usb ports but stopped doing so some time later.
Can anyone help me with this issue? I am really desperate and annoyed ... i do not understand why this expensive machine does not work as it should.

Ease in/Ease out is clunky for pan/zooms

I'm using FCP 5 with 10.5.6. When panning and zooming around in a still image (photo), I just can't get an easy landing or stop at the end of the motion, no matter how I adjust the ease in/ease out speed. After choosing Ease in/ Ease out on a keyframe, I shove the little blue speed-control bead toward or away from the keyframe along the motion path, but that distance is limited, and I see very little difference in the result. The motion still stops with a perceptible jerk or clunk.
I have used applications like Photo-to-Movie that have great control on the speed of pans and zooms, and the motion of a pan or zoom starts or stops very gently and almost imperceptibly. Photo-to-Movie costs only $25, so I can't see why an expensive professional program like Final Cut can't do the same thing. I can do smooth pan/zooms in PTM, export the result as a DV clip, and then drop the clip into Final Cut, but I can't adjust the motion within FCP. And working in an outside application to import the results is a real slow-down.
Assuming that the Ease in/Ease out control is all the control you have for smoothing pan/zooms in FCP, and it's inadequate, is there any plug-in for FCP 5 (free or at least inexpensive) that will produce gentle starts and stops?

Thanks for all the comments everyone, and thank you also Tom Wolsky for your great tutorial books and DVDs that have helped me to gain some competence with Final Cut. I recommend them highly to anyone learning the program.
To shed some light on the purpose of my original post, the project I'm working on contains both video footage and still images. In this video I'm demonstrating how to paint pictures, while using still images of historic paintings as examples of how the old-time painters did things, compared to what I'm doing now.
So in this video I alternate from live demonstrations of painting, to still images of old paintings, slowly panning and zooming around the old paintings and stopping to analyze portions of them.
I find that there is something comfortable and soothing about good pan/zooms as compared to the unsettling feelings and irritation caused by watching jerky starts and stops, with unnatural acceleration and deceleration between.
You have all made it clear to me (thanks again) that it is a matter of the mathematics involved in Final Cut's treatment of pan/zooms that makes it hard to get smooth movements of that type in FC. I still think it's odd that I can get wonderful pan/zooms from a cheapie little program like Photo-to-Movie but not a pro application like Final Cut, but at least PTM can get the job done for me, although it is a slowdown to have to use it. I first have to create the pan/zooms on still images in PTM and then export them as DV clips to drop into Final Cut. If a pan/zoom then needs adjustment, I have to throw the clip away, go back to PTM and modify the movement, and then export a fresh clip. Very slow.
By the way, I visited the Photo to Movie website, which I haven't done for a long time, and I see that the price of the program has now doubled to $50. The authors have apparently gotten big ideas and have added transitions, titles, and other kinds of editing besides just movement. On their demo webpage <http://tinyurl.com/yfej3j4> you can see sample pans and zooms created by the program. The third sample movie down from the top, with the zebras, shows some of the types of motion I'm after, such as the scene that zooms gently in on the turtle's head or the dog near the end of that movie. Note how smooth the starts/stops are.
In my own YouTube movie <http://tinyurl.com/yh8hl38>, which I created in Final Cut in 2008, the paintings that leap out at you with music at the beginning were also created in Photo to Movie and dropped into Final Cut. In that case the motion is almost violent, and no doubt I could have done it just as easily in Final Cut, but at that time I was new to keyframing in Final Cut and had gotten so accustomed to the ease of doing such things in PTM that I used it for that too. A few minutes further along in that video you can see the kind of gentle pan/zooming by PTM that I'm trying to create again now in a new video. My failed attempts to do it in Final Cut a couple days ago are what led me to ask for help here.
Maybe if I can gain a better grasp of Motion 2 I could do better with it than my first attempt yesterday, and I could also also round-trip between Motion and Final Cut to quickly adjust the movements, but I just don't know the program well enough yet to do that. I'll search for tutorials and demo movies on Motion. Someone above has also said that Motion 2 is inferior to version 3 in this respect, and I don't have 3, so I guess I'm stuck with Photo to Movie for the present to get smooth pan/zooms.

Memory manager - Profiler

I will have several questions about memory management,
garbage collection by Flash.
First of all can anyone explain what is the link between the
memory usage of the profiler and the System.totalMemory value.
I use a module to display the totalMemory value evolution
with a timeline chart (get the totalMemory value every 0.5 second
and keeping only last 300 values).
Here what I get : after about 4 hours of time running, the
memory usage peak is about 24 Mbytes, BUT the System.totalMemory is
about 600 Mbytes !!
Before trying to understand why I have this memory
consumption, I would like to understand the difference between what
the profiler is measuring (24 Mbytes) and the memory used by the
Flash Player (600 Mbytes).

This is a loaded question but let me try to take a stab at it:
First, let's right away eliminate the 'Minimize Application' issue; the memory that goes way down to 1 meg is the actual Real Memory being used by the Application, by minimizing it, you are putting all the application memory space into the Windows swap file. When you restore the application, then you will see the value grow again back to where it was by taking the swapped out pages back into real memory.
The difference between the memory profiler and the task manager could be drastic in terms of consumption, the memory profiler is tracking only the java objects allocated and freed by your application, the task manager is look at the Windows Process as a whole, which contains a Virtual Machine that needs memory to store loaded classes, internal data and application heap (which are the actual java objects). The application heap will be usually far bigger than the cumulative total number of objects in your application.
A usual way to use the memory profiler is to, by running it on your application, take a snapshot of the memory before an expensive operation, perform the operation, then take a snapshot again and see what is left to make sure no leaks are being created.
In order to find out why your expensive operation is so... expensive, is to increase the granularity of the operation up to a point where you will get to the few sections of code that allocate all that memory.

Nokia N95 8GB hangs sometimes

Hi all,
I just purchased Nokia N95 8GB 2 weeks backs. I ensured that all softwares are latest. But it is very slow and sometimes hangs. I dont know. First time it hung when I took a photo. Then I restarted it. It worked fine. Then when I was browing through GPRS it hannged. After restart it is OK. Now third time when I try to load a video from the Nokia music CD, it came out of it. Restarted itself. Dont know why this expensive model has such problems?
Anybody have solution?

i have upgraded to latest f/w available from Nokia 31.xxx.15 but i have to debrand it now i m curious to have latest f/w from UK 3 does UK 3 upgraded its f/w to v.31xxx or they are still stucked to v.20xxx ?
