Why will Camera Raw 6.7.1 in CS5 not recognize Raw files from a Sony DSC RX100M3?   The Camera Raw site indicates this camera is covered.

I have a new Sony DSC RX100M3 and Camera Raw (6.7.1) in Photoshop CS5 (on a Mac) will not recognize the Raw files from this camera.  What must I do?

Well, I guess the sentence
The table below lists all cameras that the Camera Plug-in (versions 1.0 through 8.5) supports.
could be interpreted to mean that even version 1 supports all those cameras’ raw formats.
And even the sentence
This powerful plug-in has been frequently updated to support more cameras and include more features and is available as part of Adobe Photoshop CC.
which should make clear that older versions of Camera Raw usually support fewer cameras does not unambiguously make clear that only the most recent full version of Camera Raw is being updated.
So I kind of understand how you arrived at your assumption.

  • Lr4 version 4.4.1 will not recognize nef files from my nikon d610? why?

I downloaded the latest version of LR4 (4.4.1) and downloaded the latest raw converter as well and it still will not recognize the files.  I updated PSE12 with the latest raw converter and that opens fine.

Because your old version of Lightroom has no idea what a D610, or what to do with its files - the latest version of Lightroom is version 5.4, and D610 support came with Lr 5.3.
So you can either upgrade to 5.4, or convert your D610 files to DNG (which Lr 4 can read) using the Adobe DNG Converter: but Lr 4 will never, ever, natively support the D610.

You would need to update to PSE 12, or just keep using the DNG converter. Your camera requires ACR 8.4, which isn't compatible with PSE 11. It's also not compatible with PSE 12 if you are running Vista or XP.

  • Why do Sony DSC-RX100M3 raw files look strange in PE9 when flash has been used in the shot?

I have just bought a Sony DSC-RX100M3 camera and use it to shoot raw + jpeg.  I want to use the raw files in my Photoshop Elements 9, which has the Camera Raw plug-in version 6.5.0.216 installed. I have downloaded the Adobe DNG converter version 8.7.1.311 so I can import my Sony raw files into PE 9 as they cannot be used directly. Most of the time these raw files look OK, but when I use the flash on my camera and then look at the raw files in PE9 they look far more pink than the corresponding jpeg files. The jpeg files look more or less as I remember the scene when I shot the picture.
When I look at the same raw and jpeg files in Sony's own Image Data Converter software (version 4.2.04.17270) the raw and jpeg files look very similar to one another, and there is no pink colour cast in the raw file.
What am I doing wrong in Photoshop Elements? I though the DNG converter keeps all the information from the original raw file and makes no changes to it, so why does the raw file look so different when flash has been used?
Thanks for any help you can give!

Looking at the pictures of the camera online, I'd say there is no lens shade--a device to keep light from the sides from causing lens flare--and the camera lens, itself, was just too far extended and there was a lens shadow.  You probably can't use the flash that close up and should back off and zoom in further.  Experimenting would give you a sense of what situations will have a shadow of the lens or not.
Your ACR plug-in is old enough not use have Process Version 2012, yet, only 2010 and 2003 so Adobe didn't have the idea to put the selector down next to the camera profile. The toning options are better with Process 2012 so that would be a reason to upgrade, but I am not sure that the Camera Neutral profile in PSE9 would be different than PSE13.  If Adobe changed the camera profiles then people's pictures would look different once they upgraded to a new version and that's not something that's supposed to happen.
You can certainly download the PSE13 trial and see if things look any different, but they may not:  Download a free trial or buy Adobe products | Adobe downloads   There would be newer minimum OS version requirements for the newer versions of Adobe software so check those out before trying to install, unless you're on Windows 7+ or OSX 10.8+ then it should be fine.
One more thing, the White-Balance tint is set to +10 by the camera:
This As Shot WB is more magenta and even when using the Adobe Standard profile, moving the Tint down to +0 makes things a little more green like your camera JPG.  So there is more than just changing the camera profile that you can do:

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. How do I get and install the right version of Camera Raw?

Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. I was told to update Camera Raw to at least 7.2. I tried to download this but got a DNG Converter instead. Where is Camera Raw? (it does not show up in a search of my hard drive. There is a folder of camera profiles but no extension or plug-in with this name). How do I find out what version I have already? How do I get the correct version?  . . . OR . . . is it the case that Bridge will never open Sony raw files directly and I will have to do a separate conversion process every time I want to use a raw file??. Can someone explain this?
    Thanks.

    Bruce,
When I made the transition to digital some 8 years ago, I had tremendous help from a number of well documented websites, among which:
    http://www.luminous-landscape.com
I think a lot of stuff there to get you seriously going. Another one is:
    http://www.computer-darkroom.com
I sold all my film based stuff, except a Nikon F3 and a handful of lenses and a Paterson developing tank.
The Nikon suspiciously smells like foam mirror damping strips chemically decaying.
I sold my enlarger over the internet. The word "enlarger" caused me to be on SpamCops blacklist for a while.
I'm in this since the seventies, and I think you'll be as amazed as I was at the possibilities and control you have. And no more bags with $300 worth of film that's consumed in one shoot.
Jump in both feet! you won't be sorry. And these forums are the best help you can get.
    Good luck,
    Rob

From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • I have photoshop elements 10 with all updates but it will not import raw files from my sony rx100

Can anyone help. I have adobe elements 10 with all updates but it will not import .arw (raw) files from my sony rx100

Sony RX2 is supported in ACR7.2 and higher whereas PSE10 can go as high as ACR6.3
Thus you wont be able to open your raw files directly into ACR. You might want to download DNG convertor(version 7.2 or higher) and use it to convert your raw files to a different raw format (.dng) which is supported by all ACR versions.
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.2
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.2

  • Why will CS3 not recognize Pict files?

Why is it that CS3 Photoshop will not open Pict files, even after
going into Image Info and saying open all images like this Pict file in CS3.
    . . . . and yet . . . .
I can open the Tiger OS application PREVIEW and open the same Pict file?
I can open any Pict file in Preview and convert to jpg, then CS3 seems to
recognize the image file and open it.
Why will CS3 not recognize Pict files?

    Oy!
    The Mac Paint.plugin has to be in ./Applications/Adobe Photoshop Cs3/plug-Ins/File Formats/Mac Paint.plugin
You need to find the Mac Paint.plugin in the Goodies/Optional Plug_ins/File Formats/… then relaunch Photoshop.

  • Why won't Log and Transfer in FCP7 recognize video files from my SD card? They were shot on a cheepo Aiptek camera.

Why won't Log and Transfer in FCP7 recognize video files from my SD card? They were shot on a cheepo Aiptek camera.

David, the camera shoots .mov files. I have the latest version of QuickTime installed but still nothing.
I teach high school, but I'm reluctant to download FCPX for my students at the moment. I may try it but I really want to stick with what we're using currently, at least for now.
iMovie started to import files, but very slowly. I guess I'm frustrated that the files shot on the Canons I also use transfer just fine, but the Aiptek camera isn't cooperating.
Would you suggest using MPEG Streamclip?
    Thanks again in advance.

  • Lr Mobile 1.2.1 does not recognize .tif files added to iPhone 6 + iOS8 Camera Roll

I use an app called ProCamera 8 to save images taken with my iPhone 6 to uncompressed TIF files or TIF files with LZW compression.  The problem is that Lr Mobile doesn't see any kind of TIF file in my iPhone camera roll at all.  I've tried to:
Save the photo taken by PC8 directly to the camera roll
Save the photo taken by PC8 to it's own "Lightbox" folder, then export it to the camera roll.
Manually import the TIF files that appear in the iPhone's camera roll using Lr Mobile's Add From Camera Roll command. TIF files in the camera roll don't even appear in the list of photos!
None of the above methods will get a TIF file into a Lr Mobile collection.
If I repeat the process with JPG files, everything works as expected, and all 3 methods listed above will get the JPG images into LR Mobile.
I think this is a bug (and a serious one) because TIF files in Lr Desktop that are added to a collection that is synced with Lr Mobile appear Lr Mobile on my iPhone immediately.  So I know that Lr Mobile supports the display and editing of TIF source files.
Until this is fixed, is there a workaround possible?
    Thanks,
    Jeff
EDIT: The native Photos app in iOS 8 displays all of the TIF files correctly.

The latest update to Lightroom Mobile now recognizes Tif files. Strangely, in the import window they show up with with a RAW label on them but, once imported, the metadata labels them as tiffs. This made me wonder if LR mobile also now supported actual RAW files. Alas, a quick test proved this to not be the case.
That said, this is pretty cool news for those who take pictures with their phone's camera. I too use a camera app that allows me to save images as tiff files. Now these files can be imported to LR Mobile and edited using the array of tools found there. I've always liked Lightroom's superior versions of tools like Clarity, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, and Darks but found them of little use on Jpgs, due to the smaller amount of data they contain. While Tiffs aren't quite as info packed as RAW files, they are a huge step better than jpgs.
One slight caveat which, depending on your outlook could be either a good or bad thing. When you save a tiff file from LRMobile it automatically converts the image to a jpg and reduces the image size to around 63% of the original image (the native size of a photo taken with my iPhone 6, 2448x3264, is reduced to 1536x2048). At first I was rather upset with this, as far as I can tell, unchangable automatic action. However, after thinking about it a while it occured to me, that for my use of LRMobile at least, it is not such a bad idea.
FIrst let me say that I do not see my iPhone or my iPad Air as optimal photo editing devices. For serious editing I'm going to use my computer hooked up to my calibrated 27" NEC monitor. However, for doing some quick fixes/adjustments on iPhone snapshots this makes complete sense. Most other mobile editing apps only support jpg as do most of the major social sharing sites on the web. A smaller sized image, and it's inherrent smaller file size, is also better for emailing, sharing on websites, etc especially if you are using cellular data to upload with. Admittedly I would have prefered the option to save as either a tiff of jpg and also the option to select  the image size, but overall this "feature" is OK with me. As I said if your usage of LR Mobile differs from mine you could well be holding your head in your hands moaning by now.
While I'm still waiting for the ability to edit keywords and other metadata, the thing that would make LR Mobile an essential app for me, this addition of tiff support has actually gotten it out of my "Archive" folder and back in to use.
PS: one thing that has always worked well is the sync between devices (internet required) so it is geeat for getting your phone photos onto the your iPad.

Than LR should have brought in the RAW files as well. ACR is the RAW
processing engine used by LR under the covers so anything not supported by
ACR would not be supported by Lightroom.
Are you shooting RAW plus JPEG? By default, Lightroom will stack then
unless you tell it not to. Check to see if there is a small badge on the
preview that looks like two sheets of paper with a number. That is how
Lightroom indicates a stack. You can unstack them by clicking on the badge.
There is also a menu item to stack/unstack photos. Otherwise, I would have
to research but not sure why Lightroom would ignore the RAW photos but
    still import the JPEGS.

With regards to your .arw files:
You need to either purchase and install Lightroom 5.4 -- OR -- download and install and use the FREE Adobe DNG Converter version 8.4, did you actually launch and use the DNG Converter?
There should be no problem importing JPG files into Lightroom from your camera, what happens when you try? Is there an error message?
