Why Won't iPhoto Export My Slideshow?

I import photos to iPhoto from my Canon Rebel. They were taken as RAW. I create a folder and name it within iPhoto. I place 50 images and order them the way I want. I then "Select All" the 50 photos in the folder just to play it safe. I click the Plus button and choose Slideshow. I go through all the steps, selecting the theme, selecting the Apple canned music (so that there won't be a copyright issue), I set my settings... Show Title, play music through slideshow, etc. I then click the Preview button. It works fine! I then tap the Play button. My slideshow fills the screen and does as I have asked it to. I then make sure that my slideshow is selected in the left column (it has not been unselected since I started this maneuver) and I click the Export button at the bottom of the window.  HERE IS WHERE, AS I SAID BEFORE, EXPORT DOES NOT WORK.... A dialog box comes up: "Export your slideshow Choose a format based on where you will view your slideshows;___Format:" (I have chosen all three choices many, many times trying to get beyond this point.)  "Automatically send slideshow to iTunes" has been selected, BTW.  I then hit the export button and the navigator dialog box opens and I choose my folder called iPhoto Slideshows. I click OK.  At this point the export progress dialog box opens and sits there... the thumbnail rectangle remains BLACK. The progress bar never changes from its standard GREY.  The only text on the export slideshow dialog box remains the same and says: "Exporting Slideshow ..."  Fearing there was a hiccup somewhere, I have left this window open and able to work OVERNIGHT, just in case. Nothing. I have tried all three formats. I have changed the destination folder. Nothing.
I have had this problem for months. Have asked this forum for help. I have been told nothing is wrong with iPhoto.
So here's my new question: "What am I suppose to do about this problem that I have explained above?"
I would say my copy of iPhoto is corrupt, if there is nothing wrong with iPhoto in general. Is this a possibility?  In which case.... How do I get another iPhoto app without having to pay for it?
Or do you have some other reason this process is not working on my Mac Pro with OS X  10.9.5 (13F34)?
This is the fifth time I have had to export all my photos to my laptop and use Snow Leopard with iPhoto 9.2.3 in order to finish my projects.
Please help with these EXPORT FAILURE questions.
Thank you, very much.

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Why won't iPhoto Export Slideshows in Mavericks?

After setting up a slideshow in iPhoto 9.5.1 running on a PowerMac with OS 10.9.5 (Mavericks), the app will not export the slideshow. Why not? How do I get a copy of iPhoto that works? Is Apple no longer supporting iPhoto? When and where will this be announced and what is the work-around suppose to be?

    1 - iPHoto is supported
2 - iPhoto can export slideshows
3 - if you want help you need to actually provide information - like what does happen - what error messages - anything else - simply saying "it does not work is not enough to have anyone help you solve your specific problem

  • Why won't iPhoto 11 in Mavericks open or create books, cards, etc?

Why won't iPhoto 11 in Mavericks open or create books, cards, etc? I can't open existing projects or create new ones. Nothing happens when I try to open a project: alsop, nothing happens when I click 'Create' when trying a make a card, book, etc. All very frustrating.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

Sorry no mind readers here so you have to tell us details, context and any error messages - just stating an abstract problem that could have thousands of causes is not enough
What version of iPhoto? Of the OS? what has changed since it worked? How are you trying to open it (clicking on the icon in the Dock, double clicking on the application in the applications folder, ???)?

  • Why won't iphoto respond?

My iphoto opens, but does not "respond". It has the loading rainbow swirl going for a long time, and it won't open iphoto. I tried to update the software by going to "Software update", and so far everything is up to date. I don't know what else to do. Help me please.
    Thank you.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Why won't iPhoto open?

I've just tried to open iPhoto (5.0.4), the version that came with OS X and the only version I've got. iPhoto won't open.
A dialogue box says: "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
The problem is I don't have another version of iPhoto. And I'm not aware of having made any changes with another, newer, version. What should I do?
BTW, I don't want an upgrade... If the only way I can access my iPhoto folders, albums, files and slideshows is to pay for an upgrade simply because I may have (unknowingly) added images that someone else had in a newer version, then the whole thing smells like a scam...
I hope there are other options...

    iHope
It's not a scam, and guess what, even upgrading will not solve this issue. You have to fix this problem first.
iPhoto is an excellent app, but sometimes it gives misleading error messages. Your database file has been damaged - by a crash, perhaps? - and when the app tries to open it all it sees is a database file it doesn't recognise. It then gives this message.
    This article

Or, you can restore your back up.

  • Why won't iPhoto '11 display CR2 tags for Canon 7D raw files

iPhoto '11 won't display CR2 tags for the raw files from my Canon 7D. I didn't have any problem with my Rebel ST or any previous version of iPhoto.
Any help to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Allan

What a pity you didn't make the clear in your initial post. Would have saved us both some time.
It might also help to clarify some terminology. What you are calling the "image file number" is the Title of the photo. When you haven't added a tite, iPhoto uses the filename.
You can easily sort Raws from jpegs as Raws are automatically tagged with a keyword on import. So a quick smart album will tell them apart.
As to why it hasn't been fixed, you will have to ask Apple that question, no one here knows and Apple aren't here.

  • Why do certain iPhotos disappear in slideshow?

I am putting together a slideshow for my son's birthday party. Why do certain photos, which I can see in the library, disappear in the slideshow?  There is just a black exclamation mark or blank screen during the slideshow. Thanks for any help.

The exclamation mark is an indication that the file path/link between the thumbnail and the full size master has been broken. Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

What didn't work for you? It was a test. Did it fail? Where?
    gregg137
Can you access those images with Image Capture (in the Applications Folder) Are you importing from a camera? Can you use a Card Reader? Try reformat the card after you get the images off.
In either case, you need to give us concrete information to work with. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Why Won't it Export to Word ?

I just bought one year of this Export PDF thing for $20 just for the sake of one file I want to convert.
The prog goes about uploading it - takes forever (It's 66megabytes) - and then closes with a curt, fleeting message that there was an unexpected error!  And that's it.  Nothing left at all.
Tried that a couple of times. The same each time. Is that what it is supposed to do? Just close with a curt message and that's it?
And no file uploaded.  So then I went to the upload file thing.  Thinking if I've got it uploaded there I can keep trying the conversion and I won't have to upload all the time.
But damned if the same thing didn't happen.
I waited and waited for the upload, watching the progress bar move painfully slowly across the screen - got right to the very end and bang! Unexpected error or somesuch message for the usual second or two and then back to the plain screen with no hints of what has just happened, no error messages, no log that I know of, no hints of where/how to report it all and get help...
So it looks like the error in the first place might be with the file upload and not with the conversion thing at all.
Anyway it's a pretty poor show the whole thing, I'm thinking.
Can anyone offer any advice, explanations, course of action, anything?
And this help forum doesn't seem much better inasmuch as I can't see whether or not I"m going to get advised of responses to  my post?  Which at this stage of the game is pretty poor programming, isn't it? A bit of a clunky old forum?  You can get better action for free from phpBB.
Anyone got any help would like to contact me with it directly, lest this forum doesn't advise, my email is abrogard at yahoo dot com.

    Hi Kalima01,
We are so sorry to hear about your frustrations. I do appreciate the level of detail you have shared. If you are willing - try rebooting and then logging in again into ExportPDF. The file size you are converting should be fine.
Here is a 'Getting Started' guide that may be of help as well.
Please respond when you have a chance and let me know about the reboot results.
I will keep an eye out for you!
    Kind regards, Stacy

  • Why does my iPhoto export in both NEF and jpg

My requirement is this. I want to export two versions of my photos to disk - one, as JPEG for sharing with family/friends; and two, as RAW to retain my changes for subsequent edits.
When I export an iPhoto Event to disk, I use File -> Export -> 'Current' (to preserve my edits), and it saves some photos as NEF and some as lowercase jpg. I studied a previous thread where iPhoto saved portrait files as jpg - although this is true for some of my photos, it is not entirely true. Within the same event, I have landscape mode photos which have been saved as jpg.
I have checked my exports previous to Mavericks, and none of those exports have this problem. Is this a iPhoto / Mavericks bug like my previous post (where iPhoto would destroy some photos vertically). I'm using iPhoto 09 v8.1.2 (424) on mid 2009 MBP OSX 10.9.3.
    Thanks.

If you export from iPhoto with "Kind > Current", it will export as a JPEG, if you have done any adjustments or modifications at all. The current version will be exported as a  JPEG. If the original has not been touched at all, however, exporting as  "Kind > Current" will export the original RAW file.
If you want to be sure to export as a JPEG for sharing with your family, use "File > Export , Kind > JPEG, Full Size, to be on the safe side.

  • Why won't Iphotos show up in Imovie- even if it is opened

I am trying to place photos in my IMovie, but it says "Open iphoto ti see ohitis from your iPhoto Library in this list. IT IS OPEN?
It won't populate with my iphoto pictures

    Hi
Depends on which iPhoto Library You are using. As iMovie looks only in the one in
Your User Account / Photos / iPhoto Library
So If You in iPhoto address Your material to an iPhoto Library on an external Hard Disk - then iMovie can not find it and it's content.

  • Why won't iPhoto import D700 RAW images?

Yesterday I tried to import 809 RAW (NEF) images from my Nikon D700 camera into the iPhoto program on a friend's iMac. It imported one image, but refused to import the remaining 808! I don't understand why it didn't accept the whole batch.
The iMac in question is a 20" Intel unit purchased new in 2006. The OS system has been upgraded to Leopard (version 10.5.8) and iPhoto to version 8.1.2. There's still plenty of available space (145 GB) on the hard drive.
Any ideas on what the problem might be and how to remedy it?
    Bob

    Larry,
    Thanks for the reply.
I can confirm that D700 RAW images were downloadable to earlier versions of iPhoto than iPhoto '11.
Until January 2012 I had a 20" Intel iMac purchsed in 2007 that was very similar to that of my friend. It also had Leopard  and iPhoto '09, and I was able to download D700 RAW images to it. In fact, one of the main reasons I upgraded that iMac from Tiger and iPhoto '06 to Leopard and iPhoto '09 was so that I could download D700 RAW images.
I now have a new 27" iMac with Lion and iPhoto '11 and have no problems downloading D700 RAW images.
I remain puzzled why the D700 RAW files--with the exception of one--wouldn't download to my friend's  iMac.

  • Why won't iMovie export my movies?

Basically Imovie isn't uploading anything for me every since the new update. I used a lot of green screen effects and picture backgrounds so I assumed that may be the problem and recorded the movie it self with quick time player. Yet even after it was just one clip and music, it won't export.
    It says it has "failed".

Are you able to see the file under the "Files" tab at https://cloud.acrobat.com?
If yes, you can download it from here.
If not, can you please try using a different web browser or Adobe Reader to convert your file? Please let me know if this worked.
