Why won't my final cut 7 export my entire :30 movie in pro res 422 60i

Why won't my final cut 7 export my entire :30 movie in pro res 422 60i?
And some transitions are not rendering properly.

Why won't my final cut studio 2 open on my iMac after I have installed all the disc?

    Nope.
Just download Preference Manager (Free) from Digital Rebellion at:
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
It will allow you to archive your current settings before you trash them, in case you want to return to them for some reason.
Then trash your preferences and restart Final Cut.
It will see there are no existing preference and will create a fresh set.
Hopefully this will allow you to compete the launch.

  • Exporting a DV PAL Timeline as Apple Pro Res 422.......Any Advantages????

    Hello
Apart from the file space you save are there any quality advantages in exporting a DV PAL sequence to Pro Res 422? Some of my students are convinced that it looks better and plays better on their monitors.
I'm thinking that their final output will be DVD so will DVD Studio Pro allow you to import Pro Res 422? Is there any point being that the final sequence is going to be re-encoded to MPEG?
I'm yet to test things myself so any pointer would be great.
One particular student says that their QT sequence looks grainy in QT player where as Pro Res looks GREAT!!!
    Thanks

QT plays DV files at low quality by default. You can change it to high quality playback in movie properties: Apple + J.
You will not *add quality* transcoding the movie from one format to another. For DVD use you'll get the most of the quality exporting to MPEG2 using Compressor directly from your timeline with any extra transcoding in the middle.
    Hope that helps !

  • Downgrading to iMovie from Final Cut Express - exporting?

My husband and I used to be into video editing before the kids were born. We have two 6 year old macbooks and one is dead and one is dying so we are forced to make a decision here on how to procede. My husband does one or two hobby type movies a year, but we mostly use our video editing software for home movies of the kids now. We don't have the money to spend on these things we used to, or the time to really be trying to tinker around with Final Cut anymore. So we decided to buy the $600.00 Mac Mini instead of a new laptop. We are thinking about switching back to iMovie as well, since buying the newer version of Final Cut will be pretty spendy, and iMovie seems to have come a long way since we last used it. We have a really old version of Final Cut right now, so I think upgrading would be necessary if we stick with Final Cut.
I am really confused about the new iMovie though. We have been using a Sony Digital 8 camcorder and storing our movies on tape. I talked to the guy at the Apple store about the Mac Mini and asked why there was no 'export to camera' on the new iMovie (I'm actually using '09, but I am told 11 doesn't have it either). He looked stumped and actually said he had never heard of doing that and why would I want to do that. I asked where I was supposed to store our final movies and he said the hard drive. I was surprised and told him that hard drives crash, but tapes last much longer. He said tapes degrade, and I said yeah, but not for like 30 years or longer, our hard drives have only lasted on average 5 years. But later I was thinking that maybe it wasn't a bad idea to back up our tapes on the hard drive. We have a 1 TB external which we would probably fill when all is said and done. I am thinking of getting some cloud storage from BackBlaze as well, so I started thinking that maybe tapes are becoming obsolete and we should really do this HD thing (for now, until a better storage option comes out in a few years because HD's are obviously not ideal).
But then I started looking at the new iMovie and I have no idea how to export a final movie into a file that won't lose any quality. In final cut there is the 'self contained movie' setting which is a full quality version of the final movie. But in iMovie, I can't find an equivilent. How are you exporting your final movies in iMovie and where are you storing them? And if we downgrade to iMovie, will there be a loss in quality? I saw another thread that says that iMovie 11 is exporting movies that lose a lot of quality. Has Apple fixed this yet? When we started using iMovie years ago we were told that it imports and exports the exact same quality since it is all digital there would be no degradation. But now that I read that there is a loss of quality in the new iMovie I am nervous to downgrade to iMovie. Can anyone shed some light on these issues for me? Should we stick with Final Cut, or can we make iMovie work?

Is this a really slow board, or did I ask a silly question? Why no responses?

  • To Apple: Why is it called Final Cut Pro?

    My question is to Apple:
So why is it called Final Cut Pro?
You can't call it Final Cut Pro if it's a whole new program. (or if it's an upgrade to IMovie)
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15458061#15458061
I am soooooo disappointed in this!!!  I have been editing on Final Cut since version 1. I can't even figure out how to put on a fade to black without shifting the whole timeline. @#$%R@Q$E%QQ@!!!!!!!
Are you really going to make all of us start over from scratch and learn the edit software again? 1/2 the stuff I've learned, keystrokes, favorite effects, screan layouts, 3 party filters etc...over the last 10 years is out the window. It's going to take me months to figure the ins and outs of this new program. How am I supposed to bill my clients for hours when I'm working at 1/10 the speed?  And when am I supposed to take 2 months to learn a whole new program?
If anybody from Apple is reading this>>>> PLEASE give us back control and stop trying to do everything for us.  We have our own ways of working and our own workflows, folder structures, organization and views.
Everytime I want to do something on the timeline, FCP X thinks it knows what I want and tries to override what I'm trying to do. Maybe for someone from IMovie this is fine. I know what I want and don't need my software trying to second guess me all time. That's our job as editors.
(Now some smart a## is going tell me>>> "Just to keep editing on FCP7".... Well that's great, till they stop supporting FCP7 in 9 months, then what do we do?)
If it's not broke, don't fix it!!!!  And for sure don't abandon it!

Using final cut X exporting using compressor.
here is my youtube chanel for info as well.
    http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCy-etfi_vg_Cwkjz3zOAtPg
I just uploaded a video i created yesterday. I shot it in 1920X1080 @ 50 FPS, edited it in fincal cut, and exported it in compressor with the default settings for
HD 720. here is a copy of the information in the file.

My question is that the output video is the quality I wanted, and have uploaded to youtube before, as you can see some of the other videos there, but when I uploaded this video (thank you video) the quality is jumpy and nasty and I am not really sure what happened.
I am also using the panasonic HC-V520m full HD camera.
    any info would be great.

Hello Serenity99.   In my rather limited experience with this, I have had much success with just copying and pasting the project from within FCP X.  All of the properties (retiming, themes, effects, music, sound effects etc.) copy over exactly between the two, which is great.  The only thing is that while the transitions and retiming copy over in the one go, you may have to go back and copy and paste any titles seperately as they are placed above the clips (well in my case they have been) but they will copy over nicely and as previously configured.  I have not found this to be a big hassle at all.  I was releaved to find that the process was as easy as it was.  Mind you, I have not has as hiccup free a time with copy and pasting from other applications like iMovie to FCP X.  Although I can select and copy the projects, all the other editing and rejiging has been jumbled and required much reworking.  But if you stick to within FCP X it is easy as pie and works wonderfully.

  • Can't use Final Cut Express Export Using Quick Time Conversion with iDVD.

I am using iDVD 08v 7.0.4 and until 3 days ago I could import and create iDVD's using Final Cut Express export using Quick Time Conversion. There was an update that downloaded for iDVD. Since then, I can only use Final Cut Express Exports that is a self contained Quick Time Movie.
I have never had this kind of apple and apple problem. I am disappointed that I'm having apple issues like this.

Are you on latest 10.5.x release and latest FCE updates? Your info line says 10.5.1 and you didn't list FCE version. Not saying that will fix problem, but might help. You also might want to explain how you did your Quicktime conversion.

    I have a MacBook Pro , Model Identifier MacBook Pro8,2 , MAC OX S 10.7.4
I noticed that if I open Final Cut Projects created on other/older models MacBook Pro Laptops or MacPro Desktops, the fonts used in the previously created FCP projects, change their font spacing! which distorts the look of the Text that was written, by oevrlapping on other things that were put & present on the screen.. Another similar probelm is that the Vector shaped used for example to highlight certain words or shapes, also change their position on the screen so that they no longer highlight exact things that we once used these vectors to highlight or outline... Anyone knows how to solve this problem please?? I made sure that the same fonts are available in the Library in both old and newer computers...
    thanks in advance..

You might want to take your question to the FCP forum - if you copied all fonts to your Library>Fonts folder and restarted they should be recognized by all applications. I know that this works for Adobe products, anyway.

  • Export to quicktime audio out of sync Apple Pro Res 422

    hello forum!
In a tizz as have an film due tomorrow but when I export to quicktime from final cut 7, the audio is out of sync...
I've scoured the forums and lots of other people seem to have this problem when using H264, however I converted to Apple Pro Res 422 (LT) before pulling files into final cut, plus all of the sequence and final cut settings (as far as I can tell) are already set to Apple Pro Res 422 (LT). I don't understand what I am doing wrong!
nb. the files seem to play okay in VLC

Thanks for your reply David! Indeed my audio is 16 bit 48 kHz and there is no MP3 audio (have a wav music file included).
I just spoke to a techy  friend who said the fact it is playing smoothly in VLC indicates the problem is with quicktime and not with the film itself, so I am currently compressing to something smaller and will see how I fare from there!

  • CS6 Export Settings for Apple Pro Res 422 HQ

My project is 1920 x 1080 (1.0) 23.976 fps, progressive and my special effects guy is asking for the project to be rendered out to Apple Pro Res 422 HQ. I can not find an export setting that offers 23.976 fps and is progressive. I have offered to give him an "XML" file but he is insistant. What can I do?

I believe you will only find this option on a Mac that has ProRes installed from some other application, like QuickTime Pro or Final Cut.

  • Exporting AVI to Apple Pro Res 422

I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 4.2.1 and I would like to export my source file (AVI) to Apple Pro Res 422. Is that possible?
If not, which format do I export my video to be used on a Mac running Final Cut Pro. I realize I can export using Quicktime, but then Final Cut Pro would have to render the video. I am hoping to avoid the additional rendering step.

Open the AVI file in MPEG Streamclip, and choose prores 422 as the export option, and see if that works.

  • 'movie setting anomoly exporting a qt movie from Pro Res timeline

Shot something in HDV 1080i, captured it all as HDV Pro Res 422 HQ.
My timeline is HDV 1440 x 1080 . I export 'using QT conversion' to get a QT file to send to compressor and in the 'movie settings' box QT describes the 'size' as 608x456 ( current ).
Why does it reports the size as 608 x 456 as 'current', when the actual current size of the footage I'm exporting is 1440 x 1080?
My natural choice is to select the size which I know is 'current' 1440 x 1080.
This default 'movie setting' which QT offers me is re-sizing from 1440 x 1080 to 608 x 456, is this not bound to introduce degradation in the QT file?
Can anyone shed any light on this?
    Peter

Hi, well I already tried that workflow and I'm experimenting with this routine as it's advised on kenstone's site. Have you any idea why QT is mis-describing the 'current' dimensions of the footage ?

  • Apple Pro Res 422 HQ export - "render at max depth" and "24 bit or 48 bit depth"?

I'm exporting my 90 minute feature for DCP using the Apple Pro Res 422 HQ codec. The film is 1920x1080 and that is what the export will be. We used a variety of cameras (Canon 7D, Sony XR160, GoPro, Blackmagic in HD) for the film.
    For the export options:
Do I check "Render at Maximum Depth"?
Which do I choose - 24 bit or 48 bit depth? - one has to be chosen even when "Render at Maximum Depth" is unchecked
When I asked the DCP house, they said that "Render at Maximum Depth doesn't actually do anything when using this codec" and haven't answered the 24 vs. 48 bit question.
    This discussion:
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/4529886#4529886
says that you "never need to enable the Max Render Quality (MRQ) unless you are exporting in a format/pixel ratio different from your original video."
    This discussion:
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/5619144#5619144
adds insight into what 24 vs 48 bit depth means, but doesn't answer my specific question
    Thanks for your help.

A question for you - what is your workflow where you think you might need this? Keep in mind that the majority of cameras only record 8-bit color, and also in a very highly compressed format, so you won't necessarily gain anything by going to 4444, as the source video is of limited quality already.
Basically, if you don't have any high-bit-depth sources in your timeline to preserve the quality of, there may be little or no benefit to enabling "Max Depth".
