WI-Fi problem IPhone 3G (Unable to join the network XY)

Hi, I bought a 3G Iphone 8Gb, It came with firmware 2.2 ...
When I try to access Wi-Fi I got this error : "Unable to join the network XY"
I updated to 2.2.1 and the error continues...
Tried to restore network settings, and nothing...
ps.: My friend with other Iphone 3G can access the same Wi-Fi network...
Help?

It may be that the battery is the issue. I am having the same problems - unable to log in to my WIFI at home, which I have never had an issue with until yesterday, when I started getting the "Unable to access XXX network".
I have tried everything including full iphone restore and router factory restore, but nothing. I did note that after having the phone switched off overnight, I was able to access my wireless network for about fifteen minutes then it just dropped the connection and now I am back to no access whatsoever.
Take a read here:
http://www.applesource.com.au/iphone/soa/iPhone-Wi-Fi-failures-caused-by-battery -heat-/0,2000070787,339295984,00.htm
It is one of many internet postings on this issue and would make sense of the posting above mine..
I'm going to try reverting to 2.2.0 - people such as Leo Laporte on Macbreak Weekly have been complaining of battery issues since upgrading to 2.2.1

  • HT5569 When I attempt to choose the wi fi network I set up my iPhone message says "unable to join the network."  It's my network!

Recently, my iphone 4s lost connection with the wifi network I set up on my imac desktop.  The message I receive is "unable to join the network..."
Can anyone offer a solution to this problem?  Thanks!

Oh, so the problem has nothing at all to do with the iPhone ... it is that you cannot remember the network password!  No wonder the iPhone cannot join the network.
Why not simply destroy the network and set up a new one with a password you remember?

  • Unable to join the network on iPhone 5

My phone was using IOS 6.0 when this first started happening. I was able to join a public network (i.e. church, hotel). It connected the first time without problems. Then another time later I was unable to. I got the "unable to join the network" message. The phone can see the network.
I've tried several attempts. Tried the following:
    - forget network (does not give this option anymore)
    - turning wifi on and off
    - reset network settings
    - resetting the phone by holding the buttons for 10 seconds
I am able to connect to my home wifi without any problems and my work wifi, and possibly others.
My wifes phone is identical to mine and she is able to connect to the church's wifi.
I even tried the update to IOS 6.1 - same result.
Since these are public routers, I don't have the option to reset their hardware.
    Suggestions?

Take it back and have it replaced as it is a hardware problem. I had the same problem with my iPhone 5 bought in July 2013 direct from the Apple Store and went thro hundreds of blogs to try & fix it but had no luck whatsoever. The only way I got it to work was to turn off the security on my router. This wasn't a viable option long term as well as the majority of other places that offer Wifi also use secure wif networks. There appears to be a problem with some batch of iphone 5's ( as per research online) not accepting the WPA 2 personal security settings due to a faulty chip or antenna using the 2.4GHz settings? Quality control must be a problem in their production line?
Also if you switch to the 5Ghz settings on the router this seemed to work for me but then my daughters couldn't use their iPhone 4s wifi as they don't support the 5Ghz range. Book an appointment to see a Genius at the Apple store and get them to replace it if it is still new and in warranty. I expalined the problem that it would not work on a secure network even though it would work in the Apple Store as it they have unsecured wifi network in store. They agreed to replace it and my new iPhone 5 works fine at home on the same router / Wifi WPA 2 Personal setting that the original didn't!
Save yourself the massive headache and just get it replaced as glad I did!

  • IPhone 5 wi-fi "unable to join the network"

My new iPhone 5 is my first iPhone and I've had it about a week.  I'm still in the process of setting it up but cannot connect to my home (secured) wi-fi.  I've been reading other Apple forums and Google suggestions and it appears this is a known Apple issue?  My phone came with iOS 6 installed so I have no update available.  I've turned off my router and shut off my phone, rebooting both but I still get an error message when entering our wi-fi password:  "unable to join the network".  I've turned off cellular and re-tried wi-fi to no avail.  I am NOT impressed with my first Apple product.  What a hassle.  Does anyone have any other suggestions to try or am I stuck waiting months for an Apple fix?

There are a couple of things that you can try. First, try disabling the security on your wifi network and see if the phone will connect. Check the type of security you are using. Some have reported the iPhone reacts differently to some wifi security. Check to see if there is a firmware update to the router. This is usually the biggest culprit of the bunch. Once routers have been updated and restarted, troubles disappear.

I had no problem connecting to my network and now all of a sudden I can't connect my iPad.  Instead of prompting me for a password it comes back and says unable to join the network ("name") and then the option is Dismiss.  Anyone else have that problem?  I've gone thru all my settings and can't seem to find a way to log into my network.  Don't get the option to put in my password.  It just give me the name of my network and option of dismiss instead of password.

  • I have an iPad 2 v6.1.3 that has a problem with connecting to wi-fi.  My other I macs have no problem with connecting.  The pad keeps coming up with unable to join the network. Nothing has changed with passwords--it just refuses to join my secure network.

My other Imacs and my wife's Ipad 3 have no problem with conneccting.  My Ipad keeps coming up with unable to join the network.  Nothing has changed with passwords--it just refuses to join my secure network.  A couple minutes ago, it connected for 10 seconds, then dropped the connection.  Is there a way to reconfigure the Ipad to fix this major problem, as we dropped our carrier (saved a bunch of money) and just went wifi.
Thanks so much for any help with resolving my connection problem.

  • Unable to join the network on Iphone 4

I am unable to join WIFI network in my house all my computers are able to join but when I try on my phone I receive error message Unable to Join the Network. I have tried reseting network settings and rebooted phone. Nothing is working. Anyone have any advice.

    Hi mcctigger,
I know it can be frustrating when you can't get on the internet.
Sounds like you've tried a few things, but I would suggest you follow the steps in the article below in the order presented:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    Basic troubleshooting
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and then on again.
Verify that you are in range of your Wi-Fi router or base station.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and Cable/DSL modem are connected to power and turned on.
Check whether other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware. For AirPort Base Stations, refer to this article for information about firmware updates. For third-party Wi-Fi routers, check the manufacturer's website for details on updating your firmware.
Restart your iOS deviceHold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
If you are still experiencing a Wi-Fi issue after trying the above, choose the symptom below that closely matches your issue:
If you're unable to join a nearby Wi-Fi network
Try restarting your Wi-Fi router by turning it off and then on again.
Note: If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
When joining an 802.11n Wi-Fi network, ensure that your router is properly configured. See this article for more information.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings, including passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Hopefully you will be up and running again soon!

  • TS1398 Can't join wireless network.  Get message saying "unable to join the network".  My wife's phone is connected so problem must be my phone - any ideas?

When trying to access my wireless network, get a message "unable to join the network".  I tried turning everything off and back on, reset phone, etc. (all of the suggestions under troubleshooting guide).  It was working until last night - it suddenly wasn't on anymore and then I couldn't get back on.  Any suggestions?

1- try updating your phone (If you can)
    2- try reebooting
3- (I know this sounds crazy but) put it in the freezer for a few hours.

  • I have a new iPad 2 which will not connect to my wi fi despite a new router being installed. When I tap my network name (which is with TalkTalk) the message comes up "unable to join the network TalkTalk etc...)

I have a new Apple iPad2 which will not connect to my wi fi despite a new router.  When I tap the correct address it comes up with the message "Unable to join the network TalkTalketc... It does connect in other peoples' houses . Am I right in thinking that the trouble is with TalkTalk?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Unable to join the network "Belkin54g"

I've been reading about the network problems in OS3.0, and mine seems a little different. I can still see my network in Settings>Wi-Fi, it's a WPA-PSK encrypted Belkin router. It also accepts the password but shows the Unable to join the Network "Belkin54g" pop-up when I try to join.
This started happening yesterday, for no apparent reason (Ihaven't changed any settings in my router or iPhone)
    Thanks for any help,
    Josh

It has been said recently by some posters, that much better success is obtained when your router is setup to use WPA encryption. If you have no obstacles to making that change, you might give it a try.

  • IOS7.0.4 unable to join the network

    hi guys,
im sure a lot of you have the same wifi issues with "unable to join the network", so i upgraded to iOS7.4 and hoping it to work. sadly NO.
had anyone found a solution yet?
    the issue:
since upgrading to 7.0.3 (later I upgraded to 7.0.4), wifi of iphone 5c had stopped working. tested with multiple ssid from different vendor cisco, linksys, d-link and netgear. tried on networks with open authentication, wep, wpa1/2 PSK, 802.11x and etc.
    the troubleshooting i've done:
    1. other devices are able to connect to the SSID without a problem. not a wireless router problem.
    2. my phone was working at 7.0.1, stoppped working since 7.0.3. not a hardware issue (assume iOS7 does not fail hardware)
    3. followed http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398; and reset settings multiple times and reboot, no luck
    4. from cisco wlc debug, i can see AP sent association (authentication passed) message back to iphone, but iphone failed to proceed with assocation and displayed "unable to join the network 'ssid'"
    please help.
    thanks in advanced
    Ben

    To yuangkuan,
My method is to introduce change into the setup. Even thought the wifi router works fine for the other devices, this iphone5 can't talk properly with the router. We can tweak either the iphone side or the router side.
    1. Don't use auto wifi join. Click on "other network" among the list.
Type in your router's SSID, first set security to NONE (set router side to use no security for the time being too)
    2. Enter a fixed IP address on your iphone. On the wifi router, enter your iphone's MAC address, set up an IP, for example if your range is 192.168.0.XXX, give it an address of 192.168.0.100
giving the last octet .100 ought to get it out of the way
On the wifi router, look at the list of attached devices to see if there other attached devices.
Bump off the other devices for the time being, by setting the security to NONE.
Set it to 802.11g if you have to. Set g mode to use only 20MHz.
We want to establish that your iphone5's wifi is working *at all*.
If you can get on your wifi router using minimalistic settings, ie 802.11g, no secuirty, fixed ip address, etc, then we can ratchet up the settings.
If all else fails, then it is possible that your phone's wifi chip's battery maintained parameters are messed up. You'll have to find a way to replicate the "power chord pull" (removal of power completely) from your iphone. This can be accomplished by running the battery to a complete zero% or physically pulling the battery connection connector inside the phone.
My laptop's wifi has been this state several times: my vpn timed out, and my laptop's wifi got into such a confused state that even a reboot or shutdown-power up would not fix it. I had to pull the battery out of the laptop, and sometimes even pull the power plug from the wifi router to get the wifi to work again.
    Best regards.
