wich one the best for Audio Recording using cubase and pro tools? MBP md102 or MBP md103? i often using a lot of VST too

Well, I've been trying this for a while. By my calculations, at this rate, installing all the applications one by one and trying to restore all the data manually will take me about six years. I would finished just in time for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The main problem is, I don't know where all the bodies are buried. Just one example, I'm using Cornerstone for an svn client. I have working copies of multiple repositories on my computer. I really don't want to set them all up again, and I can't figure out where the Cornerstone preferences and all settings are stored. I couldn't find them in the Library anywhere.
And that's just one case.
I haven't done much with my MacBook Pro yet, I think in retrospect the easiest course of action is to reinstall OS X as though it were new MacBook Pro, start from scratch, and use my Time Machine backup with the migration assistant and go from there.
And that's what I'm doing right now. I'm in the middle of reinstalling OS X.
Afterwords I'll use a clean app uninstaller application to get rid of all the applications that I'm not using. And I'll just hack away at directories that I know I haven't looked at for years, with the confidence that I have a backup both in Time Machine and in CCC and also on my iMac. That's three backups.
I would rather start out "light", but I can see it's just going to take forever and a day to get it done. Anyway, fortunately nothing is carved in stone, and I can always try again if I want to. But dealing with all the documents and all the applications one by one separately was just obviously going to take too much time.
I'll report back on my results. And I appreciate your suggestion.

I have this query I want the user to be able to allow the user to enter multiple MATL_CODE_MOD as a parameters, the problem is that the GURMAIL table have multiple records one for each GURMAIL_MATL_CODE_MOD, so it will give me duplicates.. Hi,
SELECT DISTINCT ...will keep duplicate rows out of the result set.
Depending on your data, another possibility might be to not join the table that contains GURMAIL_MATL_CODE_MOD. Do an EXISTS sub-query on that table instead.
If you need more help, post some sample data from all the tables, and the results you want from that data.
Simplify, if possible, You can probably post a problem with 2 or 3 tables, each with 2 or 3 columns, that will have the same answer.

  • Mac Mini for audio recording using LOGIC X

Has anyone had experience using the latest Mac mini for audio recording? I'm thinking of purchasing the 2.6GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x8GB 1TB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm  model. I'll be using Logic X along with Reasons, Wave, UA plugins with a Apollo I/O  I'd appreciate any feedback and or suggestions.

I'd work off of another hard drive as much as possible.  Install the applications to your boot drive, but keep your data on a separate external hard drive.  If you try to run OS, apps and big audio data off of that 5400, I foresee performance issues even with 16GB of RAM.  Also, don't forget a second external hard drive for your backups.

  • IMac Optimization for Audio Recording

    Good Afternoon iMac Community,
I recently made the switch to the new intel based iMac and tried my best to load it up in preparation for doing some intensive audio processing. Specs of my Imac are 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo, 4GB RAM, and 320 HD. Was wondering if anyone had any links or sugestions that could help with optimizing my iMac for audio recording? Maybe things like disabling the internet capability and or losing all the internal sounds and etc.
When I am running Logic and Reason together I hear a skip when the loop comes back around and it is all off beat. My DAW audio interface is a Tascam FW1884 and is fairly decent when it comes to latency. I may need to adjust the latency parameters a bit though. Any information would be helpful.
    Thanks

Hi and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Disabling the internet capability and concerning yourself with the built in sounds will make no noticeable difference. I have been running audio on Macs since the very first version of Cubase VST on a PowerMac 7100, and those things haven't got in the way.
Optimizing your system for audio would for me include an external drive with a Firewire800 connection (assuming you have one if it's newish!) for the majority of your recording. Seriously reduces system disk fragmentation. I would (and did) get a de-fragmentation program. I use iDefrag. It is very thorough, although not super fast.
    http://www.coriolis-systems.com/iDefrag.php
As for your problem with Logic and Reason, I would try the Logic forum with details of which version of Logic and Reason etc. Your fine Tascam interface will not be responsible for the loop problems. It is the 'communication' between Logic and Reason. I don't and haven't used Reason (not my bag) so can't help you as much as maybe others.
    Karn.

  • How Much External Hard Drive Partition Recommended for Audio Recording?

    Hi,
I have a glyph 300 gigabyte drive. Does anyone have thoughts on how to partition it? I was thinking 200 gb for samples, etc and 100gig for recording audio? Is that too much or too little for recording audio? Or should I use all 300 gigs for audio recording. I also want to do video editing in FCP eventually.
    Thanks

Okay...There are 3 guys and each has a basket full of marbles. The 1st guy has a basket full of red marbles, the second guy has a basket full of blue marbles, and you have a basket full of red and blue marbles. All three of you have your left hand tied behind your back. You are in competition with the other two guys, you are on your own and they work as a team. Someone starts shouting give me 3 reds and 2 blue marbles. You reach in your basket and grab 3 reds and 2 blues as fast as you can, but the other guys are way ahead of you because there are 2 of them and they each only have to worry about grabbing one color of marble at a time. So you lose the contest badly... that is why you need at least
2 hard drives instead of just one (whether partitioned or not). Buy an external firewire drive. you'll be glad you did.

  • Audio hardware interface to use with Logic Studio 8 and Pro Tools M-Powered

I want to get Logic Studio and Pro Tools M-Powered. I do film sound design and music as a hobby. I plan to compose music with Logic and edit film audio with Pro Tools.
    Here is my main concern:
I want to get ONE firewire audio interface that will work with both programs (Logic Studio and Pro Tools). I need one that has multiple outputs because I will be mixing in surround sound (mostly the film audio). Are there any suggestions? Inputs on what people like, don't like, work well with both? What I should completely avoid? I figured Pro Tools M-Powered (as opposed to LE, HD) would be better for me simply because of price and possibly using the m-audio interface with Logic too.
Let the advice begin please. I will be happy to answer any questions you have for me that would help you provide better advice for me.
    Thank you in advance
    TTW13

Yes, Logic Studio is surround sound capable, but unfortunately a lot of places that I would potentially like to be working at, that do audio post, that I've seen, require a knowledge of Pro Tools. I know it's not the best but it's the industry standard and it's what many companies use so I need to learn it (basically). I don't want to limit myself to stereo outs on the audio interface on PT. Maybe I should to keep my budget down though??? I guess now I'm looking at PT LE and the 003 family, this one in particular
    http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?langid=100&navid=126&itemid=5028
I dunno, by the time it's "technically" compatible with Leopard I might be able to afford it.
Anyone currently using Pro Tools LE with Leopard right now? For some people it apparently works???

  • Audio recording: MacBook VS MacBook Pro

    So here I am.
Been reading a lot about the introduction of MacBook Pro/MacBook and I'm now really confused about which I should choose. I'm seeking for a notebook for live audio recording and the price gap between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro mystifies the hole thing.
MacBook is really tempting me since it's not that far by terms of caracteristics from the Pro. I don't really need a unique GPU since I don't really like playing games on computers. But I do use Photoshop and some graphic intensive applications and I would need room for eventual Photo/Video editing. Then, I was thinking of getting a MacBook 2 gHz (white) with 2 GB of RAM to allow some to the integrated chipset. Question 1 answered.
I've read a lot about the GLOSSY screen and I must say, I prefer the MATTE screen since it doesn't over-saturate and it isn't reflective. Though, I'm giving myself some time to hear feedback from people doing Photoshop work and having compared the results from what's on screen and what's actually printed (with a good quality printer). I'd also like to have feedback from people having worked with the MacBook outside or by a window with sunshine.
The whole issue is that the 2 gHz , 15 inch screen, 1 GB of RAM (1 dimm) MacBook Pro pro has a 227$ price difference with the MacBook 2 gHz (white) with 2 GB of RAM (CANADIAN PRICES). My budget is tight, so I want to be sure if paying that difference is worth it or I could be fully satisfied with a MacBook.
    Thanks for the attention!

As long as graphic performance is not an issue (which shouldn't be for audio recording), you will be absolutely fine with the MacBook. There is no difference in spec between the 2GHz MB and the 2GHz MB Pro except for the graphics card (and hard drive speed). I use Logic Pro and Pro Tools LE extensively and have a MacBook on order. The only thing you may need is an external hard drive if you plan on running lots of tracks. You should be very happy with the MacBook unless you absolutely need the extra screen real estate or prefer the matte finish. I should be getting mine today and will report back on how I like the screen. Hope that helps!

  • I need help to decide which macbook pro is best for photo editing, editing movies and doing all the rest too like excel, word etc. 13"

I need help to decide which macbook pro is best for photo editing, editing movies and doing all the rest too like  microsoft office products ...excel, word etc.  I am new to the apple world and have liked the idea of the MAC Book Pro 13" but really dont know if this is good enough or if the computer will soon crash?
    13-inch: 2.6GHz
    with Retina display
    Specifications
    2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
    Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    512GB PCIe-based flash storage1
    Intel Iris Graphics
    Built-in battery (9 hours)2

That's a fine machine and, with 8GB of RAM and 512GB flash storage should serve you well for light video/photo editing as well as for 'normal' usage. And it should last you for years to come.
Good luck in making your decision!!

  • Optimal Hard Drive Configuration for Premiere Pro CS5 and Pro Tools

I am in the process of upgrading a workstation that is used primarily for multi-track audio recording in Pro Tools to use the following Adobe CS5 products for production of promotional videos in HDV (and AVCHD for the web) as well as printed marketing materials for bands and musicians: Premiere Pro, Encore, Photoshop, Illustrator and Soundbooth.
Since Premiere Pro is probably the most demanding application of the group, I have been studying the suggested hardware configurations on this forum with great interest, particularly HARM's suggestions (including his Generic Guideline for Disk Setup) to determine which hard drives to purchase and the optimal manner in which to configure them.
I am upgrading an HP Z800 with dual quad core 2.44 GhZ processors with hyperthreading (16 virtual cores), 12 GB of memory and an overclocked GeForce GTX 470.  Without setting up a RAID configuration (which I cannot afford at the moment), I would like to use the 4 available HDD bays in the Z800 in the optimal manner for Premier Pro, using currently available drives.  I am currently considering purchasing a 300GB VelociRaptor to use as my C drive because of the extended load times and demands placed on the drive by ProTools and the associated Waves plug-ins.
I would appreciate suggestions to improve my following plan:  C (300GB  WD VelociRaptor) for OS and Programs; D (1 TB WD Black Caviar) for Media and Projects; E (1 250 GB WD Black Caviar) for Pagefile (approx. 18 GB) and Media Cache; and E (2 TB WD Black Caviar) for Previews, Exports and Pro Tools audio files.
I have great respect for the knowledge of the members of this forum and eagerly await your suggestions.
    /Bill

I very much appreciate the responses to my email because I know that all of your time is valuable and that you have chosen to use some of that valuable time to help an unknown individual.  This forum is remarkable because of the wealth of knowledge available and the willingness of so many to assist others.
I now wish to narrow my questions to save you time and so that I can get specific advice.  I may not have not been clear that I have already upgraded to the HP Z800 with dual quad core processors and overclocked GTX 470, primarily for the improved performance it will provide in ProTools.  My question now is how to optimize its performance for Premiere Pro CS5.  Based upon my research, I am considering the following two upgrades, but I am open to other suggestions if they would provide better results at a similar cost
    1. I am considering purchasing a 600GB WD VelociRaptor ( WD6000HLXH) for my C drive on which I would place OS (Windows 7, 64 Bit) and programs in an effort to reduce loading times of large programs.  I have two questions: (1) Are members of the forum seeing a significant improvment in program loading times with the VelociRaptor because I am still not convinced that the price performance of SSD's justifies their use; and (2) There are so many models of VelociRaptors now that I want to be certain that I am purchasing the best version for my needs.  In addition to the usual 10000 RPM speed, this model has 32MB Cache and a 3.5" form factor as well as a SATA 6.0GB/s interface (which I doubt my motherboard can take advantage of but it might extend the useful life of the drive with future configurations).
    2. I currently have available for installation in the Z800 the following drives:  (1) WD 2TB Black Caviar; (1) WD 1TB Black Caviar; (2) Hitachi 1TB.  I believe that the Z800 can accept up to 5 SATA hard drives which I will have if I purchase the Velociraptor.  Although I am reasonably knowledeable when it comes to hardware, I have never set up a RAID configuration.  Therefore, it would be helpful if someone could recommend one of the various RAID configurations and brieflyexplain why it would seem to be best for my needs.  I can then focus my research on understanding that one configuration.
I was planning to follow Scott's suggestion for my current 3 drives:  OS and programs on C (WD 600 GBVelociRaptor), media and projects on D (WD 1TB Black Caviar), export files and Pro Tools files (all live musician tracks, no samples) on E (WD 2TB Black Caviar).  However, I have been reading about the benefits of a RAID configuration so I am interested in further suggestions now that I have clarified my questions.
Thank you all for your help.

Apple offered a refund for users who purchased Logic Pro 9 30 days or less before the Logic Pro X launch, but they don't do it anymore, so if you want to upgrade to Logic Pro X, you have to purchase it in the Mac App Store
    Part of this is incorrect...
Some App Store employee's "accidentally" (but in good faith) issued refunds to a few users who had purchased Logic 9 within 30 days prior to the mid-July release of Logic-X. Word quickly came down from Apple HQ that this was against App Store policy and the practice was immediately stopped.
To the original poster.. you never stood a chance, even if they were issuing refunds you didn't fall within the 30 day period.  There were many who purchased Logic 9 a few days before the LX release who did not get a refund.
