Widescreen export loses quality

I'm having trouble exporting widescreen video and getting a suitable size/quality compromise. Using Share > QuickTime > CD-ROM makes a fuzzy and stilted .mov. Full quality export (.dv) looks great, but the files are massive. Oddly, I haven't had this problem when the movies are 4:3. Then the CD-ROM setting does just fine and produces a good quality .mov. I can even drag the window bigger without too much pixilation. Doing this using the same export settings but 16:9 looks horrible. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Zoosnake wrote:
Wow, that looks great! The movie actually looks better than the 'full quality' dv, and it's a quarter of the size!
.. you got tricked (punkd?)...
DV is by far superior in quality, it is miniDVs and iMHD6 native internal codec..
but..
read and see the pics, David Babsky's providing in this thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9781245
h264 is mainly meant for playback - not for editing, as DV is ..
and a playback codec should be smaller..
mpeg2 are smaller too.. but not meant for editing either..

  • How many times can you "Export - Quicktime movie" the same ProRes 422 file until it starts to lose quality?

Lets say you are done with your project & you want an uncompressed copy of it as your master. If you keep importing it back into Final Cut Pro, & keep exporting (Quicktime movie), will it ever start to lose quality?

I've never seen a number given, but would think it is very high.
    Apple describes ProRes here:
    About Apple ProRes
    And in that document says:
"while remaining visually lossless through many generations of decoding and reencoding."
I don't think I've ever seen degradation caused by recompression or multiple compassion, but as a workflow if you output a master file, then re-import it to add graphics and export that, you would only be 1 generation down from the master file. If you wanted to make multiple versions, you can always go back to, and re-import,  the master file and make the changes, then export, so all you exports stay only 1 generation down from the master file.

  • How I can export files from CS5.5 to send for further editing in CS6 and no lose quality?

how I can export files from CS5.5 to send for further editing in CS6 and no lose quality?

If all you need for further editing is the contents of your Timeline,
then you should follow Harm's sage advice.
    Lagarith Lossless Video Codec
    http://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html
    Ut Video Codec Suite
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Ut-Video-Codec-Suite
But, if you will need all of your source media files to continue the edit,
you should consider using the Project Manager.
    Trim or copy your project
By using the Project Manager, you will be continuing the edit
with the original media files and there will be no quality loss.
Be aware that once you have edited the project in CS6,
it will be problematic (but not impossible) to return to edit in CS5.5.

  • EXPORTING 7D FROM FC EXPRESS LOSES QUALITY- HELP

    Hi
I have 7d footage which I'm trying to export from Final cut express and when I do it loses quality and comes out a little pixelated.
The video is 1920 x 1080, 25 fps, in 'Get Info' it tells me Codecs: H.264, Linear PCM. The total bit rate is 46,000- 47,000.
In Final Cut the easy set up for the project is HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50.
Then I export it at Compression Type: H.264. Keyframes every 25 fr. Encoding: Best Quality.
    And export Dimensions: 1280x720 HD
    What am I doing wrong?
Please Help I need to sort this ASAP.

you've misunderstood it's a quicktime mov. when i right click on it(i use an imac) and click get info then it comes up with a bit of data once of which says codecs:h.264,linear pcm- which is maybe just suggesting what codecs to use when compressing it- ignore the h.264.
"Also, because the 7D video frame size is 1920x1080 you need to use the AVCHD Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50 Easy Setup in FCE"- this option is not given in FCE HD.
I know MpegStreamclip and I'll try that see what happens, this is the first time I've worked with 7d before just used 5d. I also have pavtube video converter.
Thanks for helping it is very much appreciated

  • Exporting full quality problem.

i shoot my movie in 16:9 on my sony camcorder. everything works perfectly in regards to editing and transfering to iDvd. the one thing i noticed that was weird is 2 days ago i made a short clip. about 5 minutes in 16:9 format. got it in and edited it in iMovie. so then i wanted to export it twice. once to put on youtube. i exported for webstreaming and it was fine. then another i wanted to export in full quality so i could send it to my brother to watch on his TV (he is in cali). but when i exported it into full quality it went back and squished it into a box format and not widescreen. so i fiddled around with "advanced" and got it to export 16:9 but the quality didnt look very good.
how can i get it to export perfectly widescreen at full quality? Thank you.
PS. I hope i make sense.

    Hi
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
    iMovie pref file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named. com.apple.iMovie.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Export HIGHEST quality to iDVD

How do I maintain the crisp quality I see on my timeline? When I export to QT and send to IDVD, it unfortunately looses much quality. Very noticeable around edges of letters.
I looked in the manual and it shows a dropdown menu for FORMAT at the bottom of the SAVE screen. However, mine does not have this option! It offers INCLUDE & MARKERS and a check box for making the movie self contained. Since this is THE latest version of FCE, I don't understand why mine is different than the manual.

I'm not sure if this will help, but when you export to Quicktime you can uncheck the "Make Movie Self-Contained" option. This appears to not render the sequence, but instead just export the meda data for QT to reference.
I assume since it does not re-render the sequence you not only save a lot of time, but won't lose quality when you import into iDVD. iDVD does however render the movie to MPEG2 so if you still get quality lost it might be due to that.

  • Scale to frame size: clip lose quality

    Hi
    I'm working with Premiere CS3.
    I captured a clip from a Sony HVR-Z1E over IEEE1394 in a HDV Project. Settings: HDV 1080i, 25.00 Frames/Second, HD Anamorphic 1080 (1,333), upper field first.
Afterwards I import the clip in a DV Project. Settings DV PAL, 25.00 Frames/Second,D1/DV PAL Widescreen 16:9 (1, 422), upper field first.
In the timeline, I scale down the clip manually (under effectsettings/ move/scale)the clip to 53.3%. The clip lose quality. Pixels seems to be bigger. The same also happens if I check "scale to frame size".
Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.
    Regards, Corinne

    Hi
Thanks for your reply. Yes that's right. But in CS2 the lose of quality was much smaller then in CS3. The clip was after scaling to 53.3% still useful. That can't be the problem.
I thought thath SD DV is upper field?
    regards, Corinne

  • Someone knows how to minimize size video-file without lose quality?

I have been trying but I can not find the settings to minimize my video-files in size without lose quality in premier CS3,can someone help me please?.
the file is a mpg  exported mpg2 from imagemixer3SE software that comes with the camcorder I have got.
As well I have got problems finding the audio.I explain:when exporting the mpg to premiere the audio is not there, but in other programs as after effects you can see there are audio.I readed somewhere that provbably the programe forgot to import the codec and I have to find the file .nll  and import it to premiere but I do not know if this is the right answer.
    Please help!!!
    Thank you very much,
    Asyn

Unfortunately, you have posted into the Premiere forum. This is an older series of programs, prior to the introduction of the Premiere Pro line, with PrPro 1.0.
John has hit on part of your problem - MPEG-2. It is highly compressed to begin with. The best format is, as he suggests, DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio. These files will be larger, but will edit better, and you are not likely to experience any Audio issues.
Then, for Export, you have some choices, but you must remember that comprimising the file size and bit-rate WILL diminish quality. How much, will be a function of the CODEC chosen.
What is your intended delivery, DVD-Video, or something else?
I'll bet that Curt, or Jeff, will move your post to the PrPro sub-forum, so look for it there. You will get many more responses in that forum.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • .mov clip loses quality

I imported a .mov clip into final cut, then I drag the .mov clip onto my timeline, but the clip loses quality when it's on the timeline.  I exported it using the h.264 format and it loses quality.  The loss of quality of the video is very noticeable.
Does someone have an answer for this?  And, what do I need to do for my video clip to maintain its original quality when I put it on the timeline and when I export it?  Please let me know.  Thanks

  • How do I input an mp4 into a Premiere timeling so it doesn't lose quality?

This particular mp4 was genereated on my Premiere and it runs fine on media player. When I put it back into premiere to add more titles it gets fuzzy and loses quality. I have tried putting it into a sequence based on clip it still comes out fuzzy with great quality loss.

The playback resolution on the monitor appears to be irrelevant to this issue. Even on a small monitor the image is as you see it, whereas on the media player even if it is enlarged it remains fairly crisp
I would have thought...entirely relevant considering you have screen grabbed from a PPRo Program Monitor and a external player monitor and the fact is...there is a demonstrable difference.
    What was the Rez setting?
What does a Frame Grab look like from PPPro?
BTW - I still dont understand why you are using an exported file to rework your titles etc????
Whats wrong with the original edit Project?

  • How to export best quality gif animations in flash

how to export best quality gif animations in flash

GIF is a color restricted format with on/off support for transparency. There's really no settings you can tweak to output a better GIF. You have a drop-down during GIF sequence export to allow transparency, select the amount of colors (up to 256) and you can choose dither to save a little filespace. The only 2 things in there that really matter are dither and amount of colors used to export.
If your content is very similar (e.g. not a lot of complex gradients/shadows/etc) and is limited in color use turning down the amount of colors used and dithering is your only option.
Make sure you're exporting the GIF via "Publish Settings" so you get a single animated GIF and not file->export->movie because this creates a separate sequence of GIF images for each frame.

  • Export Full Quality Preset in iMovie 09?

If you choose Share --> Export using QuickTime... you can export as DV, as well as a number of other formats, and choose the settings for your export. There is no "Export Full Quality" preset in iMovie '09.

  • Whatever is Created in LiveType....Loses Quality in FCE ......?

I've noticed no matter what I create in LiveType after it is rendered in FCE as a Quicktime movie (LivetType clips used as intros) it loses Picture quality. It becomes very grainy, why???? How do I rectify this problem?

Ok. This is the thing that is throwing me off. I pplaced the livetype movie onto a movie and it improved ever-so-slightly. I understand that in livetype it is created in the highest quality and the moment you place something like that onto a dvd it loses quality. Granted I don;t have a blue ray burbner so I can keep the quality but I place some of my videos on Vimeo.com that accepts HD videos and when I placed it on there site it still looks the same. It only looks good in the LiveType editor or when i just render it as a movie. Final Cut kills the quality. So much for such creating HD videos when I can't do a simple intro in HD its more like SD.

  • Why do Apple photos lose quality when imported to Windows?

When photos taken on an Apple phone are imported to Windows Photoshop Elements 11, the photos seriously lose quality.  Why?

A bitmap image (such as a .jpg or .gif) is basically a grid of colors, which are represented by the values (numbers) for how much red, green, and blue of each pixel in the grid to activate when the image is displayed on a monitor or printed.
Some bitmap images (including .jpgs) can also specify a color profile. Applications that support color profiles will adjust the color values before they are displayed. Photoshop honors color profiles, Fireworks does not. Fireworks does not, because most browsers do not; Fireworks displays images as they will be seen on the Web. Photoshop does, because Photoshop can support color profiles for print devices.
Photoshop has a default color profile. If you open an image that does not have a color profile in Photoshop, Photoshop will apply its default color profile to the image and adjust the color values it displays. Photoshop shows you modified data; Fireworks shows you the raw data. This is not a quality issue, because nothing has changed with your image and the applications are operating exactly as they are supposed to.
What you want, I think, is to be able to open your image in Photoshop, and then save the richer view of the colors you see, but without a color profile.
    Read this article: http://www.viget.com/inspire/save-for-web-simply
You can find out more about this whole issue if you query your favorite search engine for the phrase "photoshop save for web color shift" (without the quotes).
