Will Fireworks 8 and Flash Pro 8 upload to Dreamweaver CS5.5?
I have Macromedia Studio 8 and use Dreamweaver 8 almost exclusively. I would like to purchase Dreamweaver CS5.5, but would like to know if work in both Flash Pro 8 and Fireworks 8 would be able to be uploaded to Dreamweaver CS5.5 or do I need to purchase both of those in CS5.5?
I'd bet that content created in Flash Pro 8 and Fireworks 8 would be compatible with Dreamweaver CS5.5, though I'm not absolutely certain of it (and I'm not quite sure what you mean by "upload"). However, I'm definitely wondering why you're interested in upgrading Dreamweaver but not the other two applications.

Be aware that CS6 is just around the corner. You may want to wait just a bit and try that instead. On the other hand, if you were to purchase Dreamweaver CS5.5 now, you'd probably qualify for an automatic upgrade to the CS6 version when it's released.

Do a SMC reset, that hopefully should get you booting and while booting, hold the option/alt and trackpad button down at the same time. Once a row of icons appears and if the disk hasn't ejected via the trackpad method, then press the eject key on the keyboard until it does.
Click the arrow to boot up OS X.

In order to complete Studio 8 activation, I was asked to provide serial numbers of older version of Dreamweaver and Flash Pro. I did but it won't accept it.

I have FB4 and Flash Pro CS5 installed and get the message "This feature requires Adobe Flash CS5"
Hi,
I have installed both FB4 and Flash CS5 as trial versions. I installed FB4 as a plugin into eclipse Gallileo and then installed CS5. When trying to create a new Flash Project in Eclipse I get the message "This feature requires Adobe Flash CS5 or higher to be installed.", although CS5 is installed.
I tried reinstalling FB4 but it didn't help.
If FB4 is installed as standalone, then its eclipse IDE has no problem creating new Flash Projects.
Any idea why the plugin doesn't detect my Flash Pro CS5 installation?

Flash CS6 and Flash Pro CC questions
I have the Adobe Creative Suite CS6, I just seen that Flash has a new version "Flash Pro CC" I need to know the following.
WIll Flash Pro be available on its own? Or is there a CS7 Creative Suite coming?
Main differences in Flash Pro CC and Adobe Edge Animate?
I do not see any of this info available as my business seems to be pointing to more app creation and HTML5 animation in the future. Adobe Edge is a good tool but there is no tool that can stand beside Flash when it comes to animating and I would hope that in some way shape or form, masks and some other features which were avaialble ONLY in Flash are now somehow integrated in Flash Pro?

This is a very good point as anyone who knows Flash would agree that it would be a godsend if Flash Pro CC would allow the user to create Flash based animations and then export to HTML5 while preserving the tools in Flash like masking which is not available in Edge. Having worked in Edge plenty of times it still requires alot of coding when you are doing button states and the overall nightmare of audio not being totally perfected to work in HTML 5 without 3rd party javascript libraries makes it difficult.
So, Flash Pro CC is ONLY available in Creative Cloud for a subscription, correct?
I have the new Lynda.com overview of Flash Pro CC and will have a look but in the meantime you are a Flash god and have helped me numerous times, many thanks !!!!

I have intalled CS4 Design Premium and Flash Builder 4 (the trial version). According to this Adobe
training video they should work together "http://tv.adobe.com/watch/adc-presents/flash-builder-4-and-flash-professional-cs4-workflow /".
However, when i try to create Flash Professional component for use in Flex as specified in the the workflow video to (i.e. copy a .fla to
Flex Project lib directory or drag "custom" Flash Professional component onto state to link to Flash Pro) - I get the "This feature requires Adobe Flash CS5"
error mesage.

Scout and flash pro cc, Enable sampler option missing
I am trying out flash pro cc and scout for mobile

1) Enable Detailed Telemetry from flash cc publish settings (i did this)
2) On the AIR for iOS Settings dialog, switch to the Deployment tab and select the Enable Sampler option in the Telemetry Options section.
However there is no enable sampler or telemety option/menu.
Perhaps its all integrated now when you click the first option Enable Detailed Telemetry?

Will Logic Express and Logic Pro X co-exist on my Mac?
I use Logic Express. If I buy Logic Pro X can I have both versions on my Mac? I assume I'll eventually move to the new version, but just incase I have issues?
thanks.Mate, it will run absolutely fine... But like with most DAW's it will be hosting other plugins, so alot depends on what you have running at once. But an i5 w/8gb well probably take more than what you will throw at it if you're only just starting out - It's when you get into serious sound and mastering where you need high end processing power.
However, saying that you can bounce down realtime pluging into audio files so that free's your CPU up. Plus, in my experience Logic is very efficient as it disables plugins etc. when they're not producing sound.
Have you already got an audio interface?
The only issue you will have is screen size on a 13" MBP, i did post a get around to give you more resolution on here a while back, i will try and find it for you - Just incase you need more res. The Logic X interface is a little 'bigger' so tends to cram on a 13".

CS5 and Flash Pro CS5.5 fail to install on OSX 10.7
I have Lion OS X at an intel core 2 duo macbook air. When I had Snow Leopard, I have installed Adobe CS5 sucessfully, and then removed it because of storage issues. Now I can't install neither CS5, nor Flash CS 5.5. The first one is the dvd image of the original dvd (since its an air) and the Flash came from adobe downloader. The error is the following:
The Setup encountered an error(10) during install. Please restart the machine and try again.
- The OSX Lion is an update from the old version, not a clean install.
- I have runned AdobeCreativeSuiteCleanerTool already, there is nothing to be removed.

Indeed I have two partitions on my mac air, but the one where OS X Lion is installed (the one with /Applications) is a non-case sensitive one. If I try to install on the case sensitive one, then, the Installation software does not allow me to continue. The /Users/fbnascimento is on the other hand in a case-sensitive device, althought it did not prevented me to install it on OS X 10.6. I have no idea what it might be, but as far as I can tell, it might have something to do with: "Install on Snow Leopard -> Trashing it withouth uninstalling -> Trying to reinstall on Snow Leopard". Maybe there is some uninstalled component I'm not aware of...
I've tried to download a new Flash CS 5.5 from adobe, the same error. If I copy a Flash App from another machine it does not run either. -

BUG - in flash pro CC, 'bold' and 'italic' properties of TextFormat have no effect on rendered text
Concise problem statement:
If you compile with flash pro CC, and use the 'setTextFormat' method of a TextField, the 'bold' and 'italic' properties of the TextFormat argument have no effect on the rendered text. If you compile with flash pro CS6, the 'bold' and 'italic' properties work as expected.
Apparently, with flash pro CC, the only way to make the text render correctly is to change the font name (add the suffix ' Bold', ' Italic', or ' Bold Italic'.) This means code which dynamically changes font styles only works in CS6 or CC, but not both. For example, if you use the 'bold' property the text renders bold in CS6 and regular in CC, whereas if you change the font name to add the suffix ' Bold', the text renders bold in CC and DOES NOT RENDER at all in CS6. This makes it difficult to transition a team from CS6 to CC.
Steps to reproduce bug:
1. Create an xfl with 2 TextFields on the stage, both with font "Trebuchet MS" and style "regular", one named boldTrueText containing the String "bold = true", one named fontNameText containing the String "fontName = Trebuchet MS Bold". Create 2 more TextFields on the stage for visual reference, both with font "Trebuchet MS", one with style "regular", one with style "bold".
2. Add the following code to the Actions panel on frame 1:

I submitted this bug with the bug form, and also with adobe bugbase (in case it isn't obsolete) - I'm just trying to maximize my chances of getting a fix. Has anyone else encountered this bug?I just can't believe how there is ZERO documenation for any of this. Flash's stylesheets have fontStyle and fontWeight properties, but they only recognize regular/italic and regular/bold respectively.
This change in Flash CC completely breaks systems built in Flash CS6, and the font naming is actually arbitrary and is not a consistant combination of font name and style (e.g. "Eras ITC" family's bold font name is "Eras Bold ITC", but the bold version of Times New Roman is "Times New Roman Bold" (with Bold at the end, rather than the middle), and what's absolutely appaling is that the font name used at runtime is not exposed anywhere in the Flash IDE!!! In the IDE you select a font family and font style independently, which is absolutely not what's used at runtime, because it actually uses a separate, arbitrarily named field in the font file for the font name. So we can't even know from within Flash what the proper runtime name is, unless we trace it out or open the font properties details tab in Windows explorer.
It seems that Flash CC is always using the font "Title" that can be found in the properties of the font, NOT the font name displayed in Windows Font Preview or in Flash CC. For example, the font name for Times New Roman Bold in Windows Font Preview is just "Times New Roman", but the font title in the properties/details tab is "Times New Roman Bold". If they made the change to allow for specific fonts to be selected, that's fine, but it completely breaks HTML support in TextFields if it's not respecting bold and italic tags.

The CSS provided in every kit uses a unique font-family name for each weight and style, and sets the weight and style in the @font-face declaration to normal. [...] Notice that the font-family names are unique, with each font-family name accessing the appropriate Web font files."
But there's just no mention of this in any documentation I can find. What the hell.

Spark Skinning and Flash Professional

In transitioning to Flex Builder fom Flex 3, I am running into a wall with the whole spark component architecture. I used to create my visual content in Flash, convert those assets to symbols and then reference the skin classes using an external CSS file. This may not have been the most elegant way to do things, but it allowed me to leverage my proficiency in Flash (and tons of existing assets) to create a workflow that was as flexible as I needed it to be, while at the same time allowing me to make changes easily and rapidly.
I am a single designer/developer, so this 'separation' of everything between 'designers' and 'developers' is creating some serious drag on my workflow. I just don't understand how this new spark workflow model can possibly be viewed as 'efficient' when it adds so much overhead and boilerplate code to my projects. I used to go from vector graphics (using 9 slice scaling) directly into my Flex projects, and now I have to filter all of these vectors through catalyst, and then create these skin classes which require the tweaking of the catalyst output for me to use them (which, in effect, destroys the round-trip editing of the catalyst projects).
I must be missing something major because, it just doesn't make any sense to me. I know that I can always use the mx components to continue to work the way I am now, but to what end ? I get these warnings that all but tell me the mx buttons are going to be deprecated sooner or later so what should I do ? Just because it's possible to represent vectors with xml doesn't mean that it's a good idea. It seems as if Adobe took something that was optimized (at least for my workflow), and turned it upside down and made things so much more labor-intensive, with no real benefits. I'd use CSS until I couldn't achieve the appearance I wanted, and then for the rest I'd skin the components in Flash Professional.
If you are still reading this, thank you. I really only have a couple of simple questions: Are MX components going to be deprecated ?, which, I know only Adobe folk can answer, and the more important question (for me): Does a workflow exist between Flash Professional and Flash Builder for the skinning of spark components. I have read a couple of other posts which ask similar questions, and some have 'solutions', but again, these seem to be ways to work around the new component architecture, rather than how to maximize it's efficiency and effectiveness.
I feel like I should have just stayed with Flex Builder, and Flash Pro because the newest version of Flash Builder just seems more and more like a tweener version that I could have skipped altogether and waited for the platform to mature a little more.
Thanks for staying with me, I apologize for the rambling.I can't really help you pick the best MVC framework, but I can recommend that if you are moving your Flex 3 projects to Flex 4, make as few changes as possible for moving components right now. Like you said, we are in the middle of a transition. The Adobe guys recommend not porting all of your mx Projects over to Spark. I have a large Flex 3 project that I'm almost finished moving to 4.1 and I have changed as little as possible. The only reason I converted it was to take advantage of some of the nice things they've done with data services and binding.
I don't think it is a waste of time to take Flex 3 projects and make them run in Flex 4.1 or higher, but I do think it is a waste of time to convert all of those components over to their Spark counterparts at this time. -
I'm working on a Spry accordian that will display text and
Flash audio players. Unfortunately, the Flash audio player only
shows within the default tab only-not any of the others. I believe
this is part of Flash trying to conserve system resources. Some
browsers don't give pages and windows that are in the background
(or not visible or "below the fold") any "resources." Only the
visible objects are given resources. So this I think also applys to
accordian windows other than the default. Ordinarily, refreshing a
regular page with Flash audio players scattered about would fix it,
but with a Spry accordian it just reverts back to the default tab.
