Will I be able to edit plans

I have a set of plans in PDF version from a customer, and wish to convert them into word so that I can add bits to the plans. I have tried a free coversion service that gave me a word version, but the document runs very slowly and I clicking on the page makes the PC freeze for about 5 minutes. Will the ExportPDF allow me to make additions quickly, and without toe document freezing?

Good day Jack,
It sounds like the document is running very slowly once it's in Word.  There's nothing we can do about that unfortunately.  It's likely that Word is having some trouble rendering content and that each click is causing it to re-render it.  You may want to see how Word behaves after a fresh restart to see if the performance is improved.
Kind regards,
David

  • Will I be able to edit?

Hi. I am a 17 years old boy and am going to study cinema. I will buy a DV camcorder in some months and I need to know if I'll be able to edit with my eMac.
It's an 1,25GHz eMac with 768MB of RAM (and I'll buy a 250GB LaCie external HD).
Some weeks ago, a friend came and installed the FCE HD because we wanted to edit some videos (nothing pro). It worked fine, but we were only editing a 30-second video, so maybe there's a huge difference if I try to edit more than 20min...
Could you tell me how would it work?
    Thanks
    Rodrigo

    Hi Rodrigo.
    It should be fine.
If you look at my setup (at the bottom of this post) you will see that my equipment is almost identical to yours.
Also if you go back 4 to 5 years to when FCE first appeared our eMac computers would have represented cutting-edge technology.
The advice I would give you is to keep your videos short and interesting.
Most budding film makers produce movies which are much too long. Very few people, including skilled amateurs and semi-professionals, can make good films over ten minutes long! Frequently, though the makers think they are marvellous, the audience is surreptitiously glancing at the clock and wondering when it is going to end.
Five to ten minutes is more than long enough. Keep your films tightly edited, pacy and leave the audience wishing for more.
When I started out, all my scenes were well shot. They were so good I didn't want to cut anything out. My films were often 30 - 60 minutes long.
Now, if I ever look at them, I cringe with horror at what I put my audiences through. They may be well-shot but they are just long and boring and slow paced.
Take a look at adverts - they are often amongst the best films around. They tell a story and deliver a punch-line all in 30 to 60 seconds.

  • IPhoto books in iPhoto -  The new Photos program only has square photo books.  Will I be able to edit/order books with iPhoto after I upgrade to Photos?

I have many photo books created in iPhoto.  These are rectangular shaped.  The new Photos program only has square shaped books.  After I upgrade to Photos, will I still be able to order books using iPhoto?  Or, will Photos allow me to edit books in their original rectangle shape, and order them?

The new Photos.app will have the classic rectangular sizes as well.
    See the Preview.
    Apple - OS X - Photos Preview
It only mentions the new square format, but the classic layouts are there as well, as the picture shows.
But you may not be able to migrate the old book projects. Finish any current book project while still using iPhoto '11 and create new projects in Photos.

  • Does any think we will evert be able to edit documents on the iPhone?

Apple keeps makaking the phone more and more enterprise compatable but the simple feature of editing text and documents seems to elude them.. also, why does the phone only have a "master volume and we can't set sound levels per app or alarm.
Anyone? Do you think it will eventually come?

"Do you think it will eventually come?"
Only if enough people REALLY want to compose or edit major docs on the phone rather than on something that allows them (sensibly) to work with the entire document in a controlled environment....
iPhone = medium for managers to manage more productively remotely
iPhone = medium for minions to moan about not being able to do enough while in the bar remotely
iPhone = medium for for operatives to pass time more enjoyably remotely
iPhone = excuse for people not to read the user manual remotely
In the words of another advert: "What do you want to be today?" (remotely)....

  • Which Mac Book will I be able to edit HD Movies on?

Looking for a Mac Book to take with me so I can edit HD movies on the road after shooting footage. What are my options?

Keep in mind that it's just not the machine as such, but that you want the fastest processor and at least 8 or (better) 16 GB RAM for editing/rendering video. Otherwise, you can go for a walk and fix dinner while the file is processing. Also, you will need to keep at least as much empty hard drive space as your temporary files in your movie project in order for it to render properly; my last one hour HD project had 150 GB of files in it until it was finished and I deleted the individual files. Also, most laptops have a 5400 RPM drive which is about 30+% slower in read/write speeds than an iMac (7200 RPM) - you may want to consider getting an SSD as a hard drive in a notebook. So, any machine with a fast processor, large hard drive, and plenty of RAM will do.

  • Will my comp be able to edit uncompressed quicktime footage?

I have an iMac 3.06 Ghz Core 2 Duo, i3 with 16GB RAM.
I'm thinking of buying a Black Magic Hyperdeck Shuttle with a 60GB SSD, so I can record uncompressed HD footage from my Canon HV40. I plan to copy the uncompressed QT file that will be created by the Shuttle, to my computer for insertion into After Effects, and to there apply effects.
My question is: will that computer be fast enough to handle such large files?
    Thank you.

My computer specs are: G5 PowerPC, 2.0Ghz Dual core processor, 8 GB RAM, 256 MB Ati Radeon 9800 pro graphics card and Final Cut pro 6.0.6.
To be clear, your is a dual processor, not a dual core.
An image is an image. As long as you can get the photos from the camera to the computer, your software should work as it always does.
Now, are you really asking about RAW support, or some other format support?

It is highly probable that your G5 is a bit old, slow, and that the software a bit late to be fully compatible with the Canon.

  • I cannot install the everio component for quicktime using quicktime 10 with MacOs Lion. With Leopard and a previous version of quicktime it was not a problem. If I don´t do this I will not be able to see the .tod files from my hd camera

Does anyone know if this is a problem of Lion/Quicktime 10?? I kind of have that feeling, which is quite annoying, because I will not be able to edit my hd video files in my new iMac until the problem is solved... and I would rather prefer not to use conversion... Any suggestion??

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

  • I plan to upgrade to a newer iPad. If I reset my old one will I be able to get all my data on my new one?

I plan to upgrade to a newer iPad.  After I reset my old iPad to clear it for sale, will I be able to get my old data to my new iPad? I will be getting a WIFI only iPad.  My old one is a 3G/WIFI.

Do not reset the old iPad until you transfer all purchase, backup and sync with iTunes one final time. After you have down all three you can then reset the iPad to factory settings.
I would NOT reset the old iPad until you set up the new one just in case - but that is up to you. Before you reset the iPad ...
Connect your iPad to the computer and launch iTunes. If you use auto sync just go ahead and let the iPad sync. Before you disconnect the iPad, right click on the iPad name on the left side under the devices heading and select Transfer Purchases. Let the process complete and then right click on the iPad name again and select Backup. Let the process complete and then sync one last time. Now all of your purchased content should be in iTunes on your computer and all of your data will be in the backup.
When you set up the new iPad you can restore from the backup of the first iPad and resycn all of your content as well.

  • HT4914 If I use I tunes match and have all my music on the cloud, will I be able to listen to it, meaning will it be on my device when I am without a cell or wifi signal....like on a plane or in an area without service?

If I choose to use I tunes match, and store my music on the cloud, will I be able to access it when I don't have a cell signal or wifi?  For example, when I'm on a plane or in an area without a cell signal or wifi.  And, if its just cellular coverage, will it count as "data" against my limit?

Yes, it would count against your data.  The transfer part is part of your cellular coverage, whether it be from Apple's iCloud or a totally unrelated feed.
iTunes match - http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/ - see FAQ at end too
"Does iTunes Match stream or download songs?
On a computer, any songs stored in iCloud will stream over the air when played, though you can download them at any time by clicking the iCloud download button. iOS devices will start playing tracks from iCloud as they download and will store them so that you can listen to them later even if you don’t have a network connection. Apple TV only streams songs."
So, from the above, if you are sitting in an airplane and suddenly decide you want to listen to a song that has not downloaded to your device then you will have to wait until you can use your service again (or pay the airline to use their wireless).

Thanks for the help. Now I can feel comfortable in not having to sign up for cellular when I buy, esp. Since I'll be using my new IPad mostly at home on my Cox wi fi. Then I can see, in using the i pad, how often I'd actually use the cellular, and where. This can help decide which type of cell plan I get. Small problem it may seem, but a very helpful answer. Thanks.

  • The screen of my ipod broke so will i be able to get a new one but i left my ipod in the locker and my mom is planning to go tomorrow without the ipod to the apple store

the screen of my ipod cracked so will i be able to get a new one but i left my ipod in the locker and my mom is planning to go tomorrow without the ipod to the apple store but we still got the case of the ipod from the first day we cant find the receit though

    1) you can get a replacement one, though you might have to pay the out of warranty price for the device (normal iPod touch 4th gen 8g = $99)
    2) If you don't have the iPod itself, its is highly unlikely they'll replace it since you won't be handing the original over (since its in your locker)

  • "You will not be able to publish your resource plan..."

    Hi all,
Project Server 2010 with SP1 and Feb '12 CU.
We've started experimenting with resource planning and have found a situation for which I have no explanation.  For some projects, the resource plan functions work just fine.  But we have a few where the Publish option in the ribbon of the resource
plan is greyed-out and a message stating "Your will not be able to publish your resource plan until you publish the corresponding project schedule".  I've found that by following the instructions and publishing the project in PWA works - the publish capability
for the resource plan is no longer greyed-out.
HOWEVER, I don't know what's causing this situation in the first place.  New projects can be created and they don't seem to produce the greyed-out publish option.  Most existing projects won't behave this way either - but some do.  It doesn't
appear to be a permissions issue since when the publish button is greyed-out it remains that way for project managers and admin alike.  Also, publishing the project from Project Professional doesn't work either, only publishing from PWA will do the trick.
Any advice about how to avoid getting the greyed-out publish button for resource plans would be most appreciated.

    Thanks Michael!
As it turns out, this isn't quite the answer but you've definitely helped in figuring this out.  Based on some additional experimentation (triggered by your line of thinking!), it seems that a change to the project's task and/or resources will disable
the publish capability for that project's resource plan - unti the project is published again in PWA.  So if you add a task, or resource, or change an assignment that will trigger this greyed-out behavior for the publish button in the ribbon of the resource
    plan.
Also, I've found that publishing in project professional has no impact.  The only way to re-enable the publish capability for the resource plan is to publish the project in PWA.  Of course, the message that accompanies the greyed-out publish button
states this explicitly but people like me (who lack a keen sense for the obvious) sometimes miss these subtleties.
Thanks again for your response - quite helpful.

Yes, but all the data from your sisters PC will be erased and replaced with yours, which is probably what you want anyhow.
