Will I lose my unlimited data plan if I upgrade to new iPad

I am grandfathered in to the unlimited data plan on AT&T. Will that carry over to the new iPad? When I sent from iPad to iPad 2 all I had to do was swap my SIM into the new iPad, but wouldn't I need a new SIM for 4G?

You'll need to call AT&T and ask them.
Regards.

....I simply switch to a 4G LTE device?
I am currently using a family members upgrade in order to switch to the iPhone 5. I am not upgrading on my account because I don't have an upgrade. I am simply switching phones. So will I still lose my unlimited data plan? The policy states that customers upgrading to a 4G LTE device will lose their plan. But again, I'm not actually upgrading...just transferring my number to a a new device.

        Hi there KM536986 and community!
Getting the new iPhone 5 is super exciting! This would be considered "providing your own equipment" if you bring the phone from an outside source, such as another account.
This means you will not lose your Unlimited Data plan.  Keep in mind that the warranty provided through us directly doesn't transfer, but Apple still provides warranty for the year you have the phone.
Let us know if you have any other questions!
    Thanks,

  • Will I lose my Unlimited Data plan?

Hi, I currently have an LG Vortex, which I got sometime in June of this year when I was scheduled for an update. Obviously, my phone isn't ready for an update yet, but if I take in a phone I already have (such as my father's, which he's giving me because he's getting himself an iPhone) and take it into Verizon to have them switch me over to that one (which is a Droid 2), will I lose the unlimited data plan I have currently on my phone since they got rid the the unlimited data recently?
Basically, by switching phones, will I lose my data plan?
And also, since I'm not buying a new phone, that's not technically updating, so I don't have to pay for the early update fee, right?
    Thanks.

I have been a Verizon Wireless customer for over 15 years. I recently found out that there is no advantage to continuing as a customer. Not only will I now be charged a $30 fee to stay their customer upon renewal (this is supposed to be okay since everyone else is doing it), my plan will automatically be changed for our whole family and I will now be paying more a month for less service. So the benefits of staying a customer used to be grandfathering the plan you have, great renewal perks, and no fees; all gone. Why stay? No reason to. Thank you Verizon.
So the response from 4/2/12 is outdated.  You cannot keep your (grandfather) old plan.  That is a perk that has been taken away.

  • If I upgrade to new iphone, will I lose my unlimited data plan?

If I upgrade my iphone 4 to the iphone 5, will I lose my "grandfathered" status with an unlimited data plan? It requires a new 2 year contract with AT&T, but I have been told by others that they were booted out of the unlimited plan.???

My sister did that, and they told her no... but then she discovered on her first bill it was "unlimited up to 4G" (fine print) - she would have never done that if they were honest about it

  • Switching to an old Basic phone for a week.... will I lose my unlimited data plan?

I have a Droid Incredible. It sold on ebay sooner than anticipated. So I need to activate my old LG EnV until Jan 7th when I can upgrade to a new phone (because the Incredible will get shipped out first thing in the morning to my buyer, and I'll still need a phone for those 5 days in between!)
The LG EnV is not a smartphone. It does not require a data plan. Will my data plan get cancelled when I enable this phone? I have an unlimited data plan that I was grandfathered into. I don't want to lose it. When I get my Galaxy Nexus I plan to take advantage of my data plan!!! lol

Speaking from personal experience, my wife's Droid had become unuseable at one point and we had to activate an old dumbphone for her while waiting for the replacement.  I posed the question several times about the unlimited data and the rep on the phone made a note on my account. After we got the replacement, the unlimited data was back on, and I had a reference just in case.

  • If I use a family member's upgrade in the family plan, will they lose their unlimited data?

Hi there. So since my birthday is next week, and I'm on a family plan with my parents and 2 brothers, they're letting me use someone's upgrade to get the iPhone 5 since my upgrade isn't due until November. The upgrade that's available now is my older brother's. He is so paranoid that if I use his upgrade, he'll lose his unlimited data. Is this true? I know that I'll lose mine, which is fine, but he does a lot of stuff with his iPhone and doesn't want to lose it yet. So if I use his upgrade, will we both lose the unlimited data or just me?

Actually the way I understand it, your brother will lose his unlimited data but you will retain yours.
Because the upgrade is coming from his line, that line of service must select a tiered data plan.
Your line is, in effect not changing (you will just be activating a different phone) so the data plan is not affected.
Hope this clears it up for you.
    Good luck & Happy Birthday

  • If i remove one of two phones from my plan will it require a new plan? If so, will I lose my unlimited data?

I need to remove my son's phone from my family plan and I am worried that doing so will cause me to lose my unlimited data.  Does anyone know if my worries are legit?  The 2nd phone is costing me about 30 bucks a month would I be better off just keeping it to prevent updating my plan?
Thanks in advance for your help.

no, canceling the line will not affect your line/contract; you will have to pay an ETF if your son's line is still under contract, though
if he wants to take over his line on his own account, you could have him do an Assumption of Liability

  • Why did I lose my unlimited data plan when 2 co-workers didn't when they upgraded?

I recently found out that 2 co-workers updated their phones back in Oct. 2013.  They purchased new phones under contract on lines available for upgrade at that time.  After the purchase, they both switched the new phone to another line of theirs with the unlimited data plan.  They continue to get the unlimited data plan on these older lines even though they switched the new phones to these older lines.  I purchased a phone for my son back in Dec. 2012.  His line was not available for upgrade at that time.  I upgraded my husband's line with the new phone and then they switched it to my son's line.  I was told that I would no longer be able to get the unlimited data on my son's line now.  I asked why, I wasn't upgrading his line but the other line and they said once I switch the new phone to my son's line it automatically removed the unlimited data.  They told me nothing they could do because Verizon was trying to eliminate the unlimited data plans.  Dec. 2013 I went to get my daughter a new phone.  Her line was available for upgrade.  The Verizon employee also asked if I wanted to upgrade my son's line since it was available for upgrade.  I asked about the unlimited data and how I lost it on his line before.  I asked if I could upgrade his line and then move the phone over to my daughter's line and keep her unlimited data.  The Verizon worker told me no.  Said anytime you purchase a new phone, it will not allow the unlimited data to be kept, that any phone under contract removes the unlimited data even if the new contract is not originally purchased under the line switching to.  Both of my co-workers were able to to upgrade on one line, switch to line that still had unlimited data and keep it.  Why?  I'm so upset over this difference.  I phoned Verizon at the worker stated that it could not be done.  He was nice but could not understand how one was able to do it and I couldn't.  One of the people who did upgrade and kept the unlimited data said that the employee at the Verizon store told her that they couldn't do it that why--keeping the unlimited data because they would get into trouble and possibly fired.  She said she came home called Verizon and Verizon at the 800# did it for her.  I feel like I was done wrong--I should have never lost my unlimited data when I switched the phone to my son's line in Dec. 2012 nor my daughter's line Dec. 2013.  They did offer me the 6 gb data for my daughter at 30.00, but my son's could not be done that way since it had been back in Dec. 2012.  So I am being charged 30.00 for 2 gb.  I have until Jan. 15 to return her phone for a refund, except the 35.00 restocking fee.  I am thinking about doing this because so dissatisfied.  Someone needs to check into this matter...should be no difference in customers.  This is not hear say,,,,it came straight from the people themselves.  They know what they have--they have unlimited data and both received new phones in Oct. 2013 under lines available for upgrade and switching to line unavailable for upgrade at that time.  Some please help me to understand why?  If it can be done....I should be able to get it too.  Verizon should address this issue and treat all customers the same!!!!   Thanks

If you didn't get a subsidized upgrade on the line with unlimited data,  you should have been able to keep your son's plan and just activate the phone on his line. The line you used the upgrade from will no longer have unlimited,  but if you just had a basic phone on that line it wouldn't matter. I would return the phone, and then order a new one either online, over the phone, or in a Verizon corporate (not a "reseller" or "authorized retailer"). That is the only reason I can think of that you would have to lose the unlimited data. Also, be sure the contract/upgrade date is reset, before leaving the store if possible. I know sometimes the returns don't get processed and reported to Verizon right away, and you don't want to find out in a week or two that the return wasn't processed by the 15th. Good luck to you! :)

  • I dont want to lose my Unlimited data plan :(

I been a VZN customer going on five years now, probably nothing compared to some of the other customers on here. I currently own a iPhone 4, my plan that i have is a 900min, unlimited data and text. I know since back in June, Verizon was ending the unlimited data plan and I'm pretty upset with that, which I am sure a lot of you are as well. I been thinking of what i can do besides buying a used 4G phone or paying full retail. I dont have a dummy phone or another line to upgrade, i have called VZN of different matters including my plan, apparently the new plans wouldnt be good fit for me in the sense of the tiered data plans, last month i used 10.5GB, I was like holy hell, i couldn't believe it haha. So I am stuck and i want a new 4G phone but i dont want to give up my unlimited data plan, believe or not i have read some articles online about how customers have been able to keep their unlimited data plan after June and upgrade to a new phone, i mentioned this to the Rep. and they mentioned that YES in some Super RARE occasions they have seen customers keep there old plans with new phones but no clue on how.
So if there are any Reps reading this and can help me, Please respond or anybody have some thoughts.

Some people are adding lines to their account and moving the new phone to the unlimited line, then placing a basic phone on the new line.
To me that's silly. Ok it's $9.99 for the 2nd line. I my area with the taxes and fees, it's just under $14 per month. Basically $165 a year to get a phone at a discount. So if one keeps the phone 20 months did one save anything vs just paying full price upfront? Even if one saved as it worth all that hassle?

  • Waiting for Thunderbolt replacement, if I switch to my old enV touch will I lose my unlimited data?

I have to wait a few days to replace my Thunderbolt that I broke. I want to switch to my old EnV touch, but I can't unless I change my data plan. I, currently, have the unlimited data for $30. My question is when I get my replacement can I still have my unlimited data?

    Hello Sarahkaylpn,
I'm sorry to hear that you had to have your device replaced. It sounds like everything is taken care of since you are receiving a replacement by mail. I am happy to advise that you are able to keep your unlimited data plan, provided that certainly guidelines are met.
ESN (electronic serial number) change away from/back to Smartphone with unlimited data (lost or stolen device, warranty replacement, or loaner device) within 14 days of the effective date of the change
ESN change away from/back to MB (Mobile Broadband) device with grandfathered plan (lost or stolen device, warranty replacement, or loaner device) such as $35/3GB and $20/1GB within 14 days of the effective date of the change
Pricing plan or feature change within 14 days of the effective date of the previous change
In your case, Sarahkaylpn, the first bullet point describes your situation. So long as you activated you replacement device within 14 days of our original Thunderbolt's deactivation then you can switch back to the unlimited data package. If you have any additional questions or concerns then feel free to reply to this posting for additional assistance.
    Thank you...

  • Unlimited data plan and discount dispute on new phone

    Problem #1
Before the unlimited data plan was discontinued earlier this month, I added it to my current plan (phone is an LG EnV3)
On Monday, 7/18, I became eligible for a new phone upgrade, and wanted to purchase the Driod Incredible 2.
While on the website, I noticed that it would not let me keep the unlimited plan while upgrading, so I contacted an online service rep.
A screen capture of the conversation can be found here -->   http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/5640/chattk.jpg
The online service rep, Logan W, told me that I could keep it, all I would have to do is contact customer service afterwards and have them make sure that my current package stays.
Flash forward to today, I called customer service when I recieved my new phone, and was told that what your online service rep told me doesn't matter, that you can't keep the unlimited data plan if you move from a "feature phone" to a "smart phone."
I told her that is not what I was told prior to purchasing the phone, and she basically said she didn't care, she would send a ticket to some department to see if I could keep the unlimited data plan, but it was up to them, and that I would get a call back with their decision in 24 to 48 hours.
    Problem #2
On Monday, 7/18, the Driod Incredible 2 was shown on the Verizon Website as $159.99 - $50 online discount = $109.99
A screen capture of the webpage --> http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/5301/pricee.jpg
When I added it to the website's cart, it took off $30 for my loyalty discount, resulting in a price of
    $159.99 - $50 online discount - $30 loyalty discount = $79.99
But when I reached the final page of check out, the price went back up to $109.99.  I asked your online customer service rep about this (as seen in the above transcript) , and he said that all I would have to do is call customer service after the sale and they would credit my account for the missing loyalty discount.  I then purchased the phone for $109.99 + $8.80 tax = $118.79
Back to today, after I inquired about the unlimited data plan, I asked the customer service rep about this credit.  After checking it out, she would not believe me that the starting price was $159.99.
She at first said the phone price was $199.99 and I did get my loyalty dscount, but $199.99- $50 online discount - $30 loyalty discount = $119.99 + tax.  When I told her that wasn't the case because that was more than the $118.79 I was billed, she told me that "somehow I get a better deal and should have been charged $10 more"
I tried to tell her that her pricing does not line up with the facts (my screen capture, my order email).  She then told me that my phone was somehow actually $$139.99 and I got my loyalty discount which brought it to $109.99.  It was like she was trying to fudge the numbers so they came out to the right price.
This is a direct copy & paste from the first email I recieved from [email protected], that again shows the original price was $159.99 with a $50 online discount.
    Due Now
    Equipment Upgrade:
    1   HTC DROID INCREDIBLE 2 -regularly $159.99         $109.99*
Due now:  detail of total charges to be billed to credit card
    Shipping: Free
    Subtotal: $109.99
Taxes, Governmental Surcharges & Fees: $8.80
        NY Local Sales Tax* $4.40
        NY State Sales Tax* $4.40
Total charges to be billed to credit card: $118.79
Your customer service rep would not budge, she told me if I didn't like the price that I could send the phone back within 14 days.
I am amazed at how I was told one thing by your online service rep previous to purchasing a new phone and agreeing to a 2 year contract, but after I get the phone, I am told something completely different by your customer service rep.  I feel this is totally dishonest and a great way to make people hate your company.
All I want is VW to honor what I was told previous to purchasing this new phone.  If I can not keep the unlimited data plan I will be returning the new phone and moving on to another phone provider.

    unclebrady wrote:
    Reply to your first point:
I was unaware of this *exception* to the rule when I ordered my new phone and agreed to another 2 year contract.  I did my due dilligence by asking a verizon online service rep to confirm that my unlimited data plan would transfer *BEFORE* I ordered.  I did not know of these forums until after my most recent call when I searched google for "verizon complaint forum."   I didn't read your "transcripts" because it's a moot point - that is Verizon's policy plain and simple, and although I agree it does suck, and it's TERRIBLE that they didn't warn customers properly, the Verizon reps did not know any of the details of the new plans until they were put into affect. (Also, online reps will do ANYTHING to make a sale/commission... Just be warned for next time. I had a 2 hour conversation with one when I wasn't even eligible, who was trying to get me to pay full price but make it sound like it was discounted.)
Read the transcript.  Logan W. didn't say "maybe it will" or "probably it will" he said ""As long as you contact customer service when you get the phone to have them activate it for you they will make sure that you're current plan stays."
Also, it really is none of my concern, as a customer, about the inner workings of verizon, if the unlimited data plan is broken up to 2 different codes, 4 codes, 8 codes, etc, I'm sure if I was the CEO's brother, they'd get it straightened out in about 5 minutes.  As is, I'm just a 7 year customer, which appearently means very little. But clearly it is of your concern, when this is the reason you are not getting your data plan, isn't it? You're MAKING it your concern.
    Reply to your second point:
Again, I was not aware of these forums until after I ordered the phone.  I have a screenshot showing the original price ($159), the online discount ($50), and the price after ($109).  Verizon's customer service people should be able to see that I was also eligible for my $30 loyalty discount on that date.  But, the customer service rep I talked to stated she didn't care if I had a screenshot or not, that if I didn't like the price of $109 then I could return the phone. That was just that specific rep. You'll learn that each rep has their own way of doing things. Some are more sympathetic than others. Just keep calling until you find a rep that will take your screenshot. There have been numerous people on here that have done this, and have gotten their discount. Just like certain reps will move your upgrade date up, and others won't.
And that's the sad part of all of this.  Her attitude wasn't "how can we make this right?" it was "if you don't like it, then send the phone back"  You'd think Verizon wouldn't be so hard headed when I'm trying to give them my business, but appearently what I'm getting is a "if you don't like it then leave" attitude. Like I said, each individual rep. Not everyone in one company has the same attitude/demeanor.

  • Will I lose my unlimited data if I upgrade from an Android to an iphone?

I am due for an upgrade in a few months and I am really leaning towards the new iphone. My question is...I have an unlimited family data plan, if I switch to an iphone will I be forced to change data plans? I work in litigation and I use a lot of data. My bill is already outrageous and I don't want to have to pay their ridiculous data charges on top of the $30 "smartphone data plan" charges for both phones.

If you have an old calling plan, you may not have much of a choice but to change plans.  If your plan is relatively new, as mentioned above, you can keep your unlimited data by paying full retail price for your phone, getting the phone from somewhere like ebay (Best Buy and the like will also result in the loss of your unlimited data), or try swapping/adding lines.  Also, if you aren't aware, as of this spring there is a $30 upgrade fee.

  • End of contract is near, what happens to my unlimited data plan

For past years I have upgraded my phone and signed a new contract, however since the last time I agreed to a contract Verizon did away with upgrading and keeping your unlimited data plan, so need-less-to-say I haven't upgraded. I have the Nation wide 1400 friends & family plain with unlimited data, My family plan also has 2 other users, all with different end dates, however my line is the one with unlimited data, and my contract ends soon. my question is; will I lose my unlimited data at the end of my contract? or will I keep it so long as I don't sign a new contract, or can I agree to another term without upgrading.

I can understand your concern dibeck but our current plans can also work for your needs. You can perform a pricing plan analysis online via MY verizon http://bit.ly/xB4iTc  to check wich one of o ur shared data plans would be perfect for your family. Check ou t the plans here http://vz.to/1lwOwRQ . You can also keep your unlimited data by ying a phone at full retail.

  • Unlimited Data Plan-Need to change my phone but don't want to lose!!

I am "grandfathered" into the unlimited data plan, we have four lines, I need to change my phone as my current one doesn't work. I tried switching to an old phone that I used 6 months ago with the unlimited data via online and it would not allow me to do so. How can I change to another phone without being told I have to buy a data plan? If we need to "buy a data plan" all 4 phones will be going else where....

Makes no difference about any tin foil hats, Verizon is using ANY MEANS to force unlimited data users off the unlimited and onto share or metered data. It is a fact. They tried twice with me and I pay full price for my devices.
    1) Change your minutes, they want to take away your unlimited.
    2) Buy a new device on subsidy, lose your unlimited data.
    3) Buy a new device on the Edge program, lose unlimited data.
    4) Swap a device on your account, they want to take unlimited away.
    5) Add a prepay tablet to your account, they tell you that you lose Unlimited data.
However the instructions are you are prepaying for the tablet use so its billed to your credit or debit card yet not really part of your cell phone plan but they want you to lose unlimited.
In short if you go online or call on the phone or even chat, for any reason in some cases Verizon is removing your unlimited data. And you have to be careful since many here are stating the same as I listed.
They are a business, if they decided not to have unlimited data trust me it will be gone. So leave a little room in that tin foil so the broadcast will get through.
Just for a giggle, many many years ago I bought an unlimited Mobil Gasoline coffee cup. You paid for it once and each time you came to a Mobil station you get a free coffee. I still have the cups (they came in two sizes) yet just try and get that free coffee. The company dropped the promotion. And now you get arrested for theft.
    Nothing lasts forever.
    Good Luck

Will i lose my unlimited plan if I get an Iphone 4s? Or will I have to pay more?

When I tried to order through At&t, it didn't give an unlimited option. I then ordered through apple website which basically let me get the already existing plan, which has unlimited data. If not for it, I would have gone with Sprint.
