Will my sony display work?

Hi everybody!
I currently use only PC, never used a mac ever. I have two PCs, connected to my sony display SDM-HX73, which has dual VGA input and DVI input. I was thinking of buying a mac mini to use the DVI input (both VGAs are in use) but after reading the complaints about bad image quality with DVI on mac mini, I am not sure if buying it or not. Has anybody had success with a display like this, using the DVI port? any tweaks you had to do?
Thanks.

Yet plugging in a different manufacturers LCD that works would put that as an argument out with milk for the cat, these working LCD makers must be using incorrectly designed timing components =)
I know it stings to buy some 3rd party monitor expecting it all possible combinations of LCDs and mini will work, only to discover that my choice in LCDs wasn't a working one.
If it was the whole line of Apple displays not working then I'd be more than a little miffed as well and then say the mini is badly designed, as all the components bought came from the same branded retailer. Yet it still remains that we are talking about a problem in a fully open market, that namely being the PC market where even my Dell 2001FP LCD monitor had issues with my PCs Nvidia card made specifically by a Taiwan company. Now if that Dell 2001FP LCD had an issue with an unmodified Dell desktop system I owned then again I would feel right to be miffed.

  • Will the Cinema Display work with an older MacBook Air?

My wife has an older MacBook Air (circa late 2009) with one USB 2.0 port and one Mini Display port. Will the Cinema display work with this model Air?

It looks to me like the cinema display is a DVI connection.  If  you have a MiniDisplay port to DVI adapter that connected the MBpro to the display then you have everything you need.  (plus a DVI cable).   The MDP adapter plugs into the Thunderbolt port of the MBair.

  • Will thunder bolt display work off Ati 7970 mini display port?

Hay sorry if this has been done before, after reading a few threads i am still confused re compartiblity,
I have a MacPro 3.1 2x 3.2Ghz quad core, with an Ati 7970, it has a mini display port on it, will a 27inch thunderbolt display work of this? i understand that the thunder bolts on the back of the display will not? but also what about the usb's?

those displays now will be out of warranty and a good number have brightness issues over time.
False. The reported brightness issues are very rare. The 30" is one of the best displays ever sold by Apple. Find one for $700-800.
Both the ACD and TBD have the same glare issue as the pre-2012 iMacs. They were never updated to the direct lamination of the 2012-13 iMac screens.

  • Will Apple Cinema Displays work with Directv?

Hi everyone, I have a 23" Cinema Display, the model before the aluminum casing. Now what I'm trying to do is watch Directv on the ACD through the hdmi/dvi output of the directv receiver. I understand I will need an ADC to DVI adapter for my model display but I'm already planning on getting one since I will be connecting my macbook pro to the display.
So has anyone tried this out and can say this will work fine? Or will the picture be distorted, colors off, incorrect signal, etc? If it works fine, I will buy a dvi switch so that I can use the display for my computer and television.
I know there is Elgato's EyeTv hybrid out there but this option will only allow me to watch OTA HD and every directv channel in sd. I already have the directv hd package in my house but do not have a tv in my room at the moment.
    Thanks a lot.

As far as I know this won't work for at least one reason and possibly two. For one, Apple Cinema displays are very picky about the input that is passed to them. In fact, the 23" ACD will run from one, and only one, format, which is 1920 x 1200 at 60Hz. This is not a standard for consumer devices like satelite TV boxes, so the DirectTV will not be able to output this resolution.
The second reason is that the HDMI output from the DirectTV will likely expect an HDCP handshake from whatever display is attached. ACDs are unable to provide this.
There may be products from Gefen that will allow you to interface the two, but I'm not sure about that.

  • Will the Thunderbolt Display work when I close the lid?

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro. I'm thinking about buying the Thunderbolt Display, but only if it can simulate a desktop and I can close the lid of my Macbook. I'm asking this because I know it goes to sleep when closed and was wondering if the Display makes it work differently. thanks.

Works great and how I do 90% of my computing.
I use a usb wireless keyboard with the receiver plugged in to the back of the TBD. When the laptop is asleep press the space key once or twice to wake up the display (be patient, doesn't work as fast as you think it should). I use a screenlock password, so enter it and we're working!
One note: if the computer is turned off you can not turn it on from the keyboard. You'll have to open the laptop, turn it on, and once you hear the chime you can close the laptop and you're gtg.

  • Will my current display work?

I want to buy a 13" macbook pro and use my current screen that has a native resolution of 1680*1050.
Can the macbook pro 13" use this display correctly or will I have problems with the resolution?
    Thanks for your help.

    Any ideas?

I need to work on Adobe Premiere on my 2013 Mac Book Pro (with thunderbolt port) and display it on my 2010 iMac (with Mini DisplayPort) using Target Display Mode (TDM). I tried using a thunderbolt cable plus Option F2, but it didn't work. Will a Mini Display cable work? Any other suggestions?

  • Will my LED 27 Cinema Display work with the new Mac Pro?

Will my LED 27 Cinema Display work with the new Mac Pro?

Mini DisplayPort (like 27" LED Cinema Display) is a direct subset of ThunderBolt (like Mac pro late 2013). It plugs right in and the display portion "just works", no adapters required.

  • Will thunderbolt display work on mini display port?

I just purchased a new Thunderbolt 27" display and was told at the Apple Store that it would work with my 2010 Mac Pro on one of the mini display ports.  Got it home, hooked it up and.... nothing.  Connected it to my MacBook Pro (Retina) via Tbolt port and it fires up as expected.  Was I misled at the store?  I want to have the future technology at hand for upgrades coming down the road.  But I fear I'm stuck between older technology and Tbolt tech.  Any suggestions?

There is no way to make a Thunderbolt display work with a computer that does not have a Thunderbolt port.  Only the new (late 2013) version of the Mac Pro has Thunderbolt.
A Mini DisplayPort display will work with a Thunderbolt port (except the port on the back of a Thunderbolt display), but a Thunderbolt display will not work with a Mini DisplayPort.

  • ?: Will a high resolution display work in PSCC (Windows)

    Hello everyone,
I am going to be purchasing a windows laptop 15" that has 2 screen resolution choices. I can choose a 1920x1080 or a 2880x1080. I would rather purchase the 2880x1620 display but i am confused as to whether or not it will work properly with Photoshop CC in a Windows environment.
Here are my 3 questions for you:
    1. Will a 2880x1620 display be workable with PSCC or should i opt for the 1920x1080 option?
    2. If there is no solution currently for the higher resolution option do you think there may be one soon?
    3. If i purchase the 2880x1620 display can i run it at a lower resolution until the problem is fixed or will not running it at the native resolution create other problems?
Thank you so much for helping me with this. I need to order the laptop soon and im at a loss as to which display to select.
Best to you and thanks again,
    rick

Yes Trevor thats me! I thought that was you! How are you doing?? Great to hear from you :-)
A couple of things as i stayed up late last night looking around.....
I have looked at the Dell Precision M4700 and because its got the older processors & its not as expensive as the M4800 but would seem to work well for me. Im looking for something that is not too high a resolution like 1920x1080 (and even that is pushing it on a 15.6" screen im sure), good viewing angles, lots of RAM, decent NITS, decent sRGB coverage and that wont break the bank. Easy chore huh?
I think with this purchase im going to have to make some compromises and by getting this machine i think i will be ok. Im sure they will probably come out with a high resolution fix the day i get my lower resolution display but hey, thats the way it goes huh?
Im using a very old MacBook Pro right now that is 1200x800 and it is excellent so im sure i'll be fine with a 1920x1080 display.
One thing that has me confused is when i look at Dell's website it states that all of their machines are approved for Photoshop CS6. Kind of funny they would say that if that includes the high rez version no?
Also, they have something called an "optimizer" which i beleive is software that works with your computer to optimize it for certain applications on the fly. It lists it as working well with Photoshop. That would in no way be a solution to the high rez display issues would it?
I even saw a video that had the highest resolution display with Photoshop on it and it looked fine! Did they Photoshop that??
Any insight you can give me before i pull the trigger would be most appreciated. I am getting a Windows machine because i have to run QuickBooks for Windows on it and i dont want to use Parallels or Boot Camp. Just me but i dont like the idea of doing that (i know im wierd!)
Hope to hear from you all soon!
Thank you so much for the great help!
    best to you,
    rick

  • HT3290 Will my Sony Handycam DCR-SR68 work with I-Movie

Will My Sony Handycam DCR-SR68 work with I-movie for downloading video? I was able to get the photos I had on it to download onto I-Photo, But I want the video to download also, so I can edit them and burn to a DVD. Please Help, this is driving me nuts!!!

According to the iMovie Supported Cameras List, your camera should work with iMovie 11.
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html?lang=en_US
You would need to connect the camera via USB, and the camera would need to be plugged in to AC power (not batteries only). Then use FILE/IMPORT FROM CAMERA. The camera probably needs to be put in Playback mode, but some cameras need to be in PC Attach mode. Check your manual.
