Mini DisplayPort (like 27" LED Cinema Display) is a direct subset of ThunderBolt (like Mac pro late 2013). It plugs right in and the display portion "just works", no adapters required.

  • Will my LG GBW-H20L work in the new Mac Pro?

I've got an LG GBW-H20L Blu Ray drive in my Vista machine, but am looking to get the new Mac Pro. I was wondering if I could move my LG into the Mac Pro with no problem? I've read some posts that mention an IDE to SATA converter, but this drive is already SATA. The Mac Pro is pricey enough without me having to buy another expensive drive.
    Thanks in advance

I have one in my first gen Mac Pro. Lower tray, connected directly to one of the motherboard ODD SATA ports. Power is via a standard converter, old type to sata type. I only use it for burning data, never tried movies. Works fine.
Here is another thread about it.

  • Will a wet dropped 20 inch Cinema display work?

I have a Cube and 2 ower Mac G3s I had been eyeing a display for ages at a local junk store Hard Off in Japan 'Do not laugh ! in the past years since the Earthquake the Jaanese around Sendai have been throwing out broken things caused by the 2011 Eartquake I have picked u some rubbish and good stuff I like to take apart Macs and try to fix or mod them.
Today I came across 2 Aple Keyboards a Blue tooth Mouse and OBS 20inch Cinema display ! wow ! it had been raining hard for 3 days they were dumped at the Tohoku University QawaOochi Campus ,famous for Fibre Optics and now Gigabyte internet spead research They are famous for getting top funding so they renew Computers often and just dump the unwanted they can not sell or give them away !
I took it to work and I was on my bike ,when I got off  it droped on the ground and the plastic corner cracked but I was more worried about the water inside.
I dismantled it and found water inside the clear plastic case and the case that looks Aliminium but it is lastic the screws are tough to unwind and was well closed
sorry image to large so can not insert. It is possible water seaped into the front of monitor ot not the back.
I may have broken cracked some inner circit board by dropping the water can dry as long as I give time in a warm dry place before replacing the back lastic but I dare not venture further because of foil and complex metal casing inside, there is a mesh cover and inside a mother board I am thinking when the weather hanges to put it outside in the sunshine and the air in autumn is very dry here on clear days I need to warm it and a breeze at the same time.
These things were 3,999 USD when new and now are just 100 USD on  eBay if it does not work I will take apart and sell the parts.
I left the 2 Keyboards alone , once water gets in they are difficult to dry and will short.

  • How to connect my old 20in Cinema Display to my thunderbolt new MacBook Pro?

Hi everyone, I just brought a new MacBook Pro to replace a older model(brought earlier 2010), and a new thunderbolt Cinema Display. I have a old 20 inch LCD Cinema Display all the way from 2005 and brought a mini display port for my old MacBook Pro, worked just fine. However with the new Thunderbolt Display, I noticed there's another thunderbolt port behind and was thinking to connect my old Cinema Display as a secondary monitor. I've brought a thunderbolt port from amazon (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007KB0EGC/ref=pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_ST1_dp_1 ), but my old monitor still shows black. What did I do wrong here? Thanks!

So currently there are two displays and you expect there to be three?
Can you swap the displays just to make sure there is nothing else wrong?
    That is confirm:
    1) MBP -> Display A works
    2) MBP -> Display B works
    Then try:
    MBP +-> Display A
        |
        +-> Display B

  • Will any of my old displays work with the new Mac Mini

I am thinking of getting a new Mac Mini.     What I need to know is if any of the monitor/displays I have here can bem used.
I have two old video monitors I used to used with my old  mac mini (Samsung Symc Master 770 and old little Princeton  - VL158) , a
n early 2006 iMac 20" (which I don't think I could use as a monitor from what I read) and an little Samsung TV with USB and HDMI connectors.,
Can I use any of these?
Need new connector cords?   Mini-DVI to VGA adapter?
    Thanks

I am a writer though  and a photographer (strictly point and shoot) for a couple of orgs.  I just don't want o run out of space.  And I hate!! slow response time.
Is the i5 adequate as well?
Glad to have found an Apple guru so quickly.  May very well buc you more in the future.

  • Will my 30" apple display work on a new mac mini

I want to upgrade to an new mac mini and from my Powermac G5.. but I ave a 30" apple cinima.
Will it work on the new mac mini?
    Thanks
    Martin

Hi Martin, the Mini only has Thuberbolt for Displays...
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbolt_(interface)
    Though that article says...
This makes the system backward compatible with existing DisplayPort hardware upstream of the driver. A single Thunderbolt port supports hubs as well as a daisy chain of up to seven Thunderbolt devices; up to two of these devices may be high-resolution displays using DisplayPort.[6] Existing Mini DisplayPort adapters for DVI, dual-link DVI, HDMI, and VGA are compatible with Thunderbolt, allowing backwards compatibility and no loss of functionality compared to Mini Displayport.
    I cant find any!

I tightened all HD screws and it didn't help. With the machine running and side of the case off, I physically stopped both the video card fan and the front case fan with my finger for a couple seconds and the noise continued. I also took all hard drives out one by one and rebooted each time. Again, the noise continued until I took out the Mac HD in Bay 1, rebooted, and I had a very quiet, silent machine. The issue is the hard drive in bay 1 that shipped with the computer, it's without a doubt causing the hum/woosh sound. I still need to know if I can safely swap the Mac HD from bay 1 to bay 4 without any issues to the operating system. I would like to try that to see if it dampens the noise but I also want to make sure this swap won't screw up my machine at all.

  • Does the new mac pro support the Apple cinema display

Does the new mac pro support the Apple cinema display

There is no 2007 23" Cinema Display
There is a 2002 23" display that has the Apple ADC connector
    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg
There is also the 2004 23" display with a DVI connector.
For the latter you just need a mini display port to DVI connector that plugs into the Thunderbolt port
For the former you need that connector plu an DVI to ADC connector

  • Using both the display ports on the new mac book pro

Hi, are there some one in Appel that can tell me if its possible to use both the display ports on the new mac book pro to show keynote on? or if its possible to make that possible? i would really like to be able to create a keynote with 5120 x 1600 pixels and get that output on two display ports, so that i can use my hardware to make a keynote with really nice reselution. its for use on a screen size of 18x4 meter.

Connect one display to the Mini-Displayport and the other to a USB port using an adapter like this:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/VIDU2DVIA/
Or buy a Matrox DualHead2Go DP Edition external video box and connect both displays to that, which in turn connects to the Mini-Displayport on the computer.
There are limitations either way. A USB-connected display will be less responsive than one connected to the MDP, because USB 2 is slow. To use two displays with the Matrox box, I believe the displays must be identical. Read and understand all the caveats about each alternative before making a decision about which way to go.

  • Using the New Mac Pro (can) - AE will not let me use Race Traced 3-D

Using the New Mac Pro (can) - AE will not let me use Race Traced 3-D
Hi, I'm using the new Mac Pro
    2.7 GHz 12-core Intel Xeon E5
    64 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
    AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB
    OSX 10.9.2
    I'm using After Effects 12.2.1.5
When I attempt to invoke the race trace 3D renderer in a comp, I get this error
"After Effects Error: Ray-traced 3D: Out of paged mapped memory for ray tracer. Your project may exceed GPU limits. Try closing other applications. Try updating the CUDA driver. (5070::2)"
My preferences are set to use the CPU for Raytraced 3D since I do not have an Nvidia card.
So, obviously there is an issue here in that it thinks I have an Nvidia card.
I know (or assume I know) the cause for this is that when I set up this machine, I used Apple's migration assistant to move most of my data over from the previous gen Mac Pro which DID have a CUDA card.
So my question is, what files can I delete/reset to cause After Effects to no longer look for CUDA files that do not exist on this machine?
I do not have the CUDA control panel in System Prefs, so THAT did not carry over.
Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks!

Ugh. That causes so many problems.
The first thing to try is deleting the CUDA frameworks from your Mac: Look in /Library/Frameworks for the CUDA.Framework and get rid of it.

  • Will my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless work with the new Mac OS Lion

Will my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless work with the new Mac OS Lion

My experience with upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion is that the OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless will print just fine, although it seems to take a little longer to find the printer on the network. My scan function however locks up and will not work. This really is an annoyance, though, since I have VueScan, which works fine with Lion.
Hopefully, Apple and HP will not orphan the OS native scanning feature for HP multifunction printers.
