Will not power on nor boot up - Presario CQ5320F, M2N68-LA (Narra6), 250W, Window 7 64-bit

Boot up problem - Compaq Presario CQ5320F Desktop PC, M2N68-LA (Narra6) mobo, 250W psu  Window 7 64-bit
ok here it is:
Computer used to shut off intermittently
After pressing the power switch a few times or holding it for a bout 5 seconds
it would come back once is while (very few times).
Then if we let sit over night sometimes it would work in the morning.  then it would work for about a 1 day or 2 before we had to do it again,
Since then I have (I am a little savy with PCs) opened up the chassie.
I have removed all connections except the 20pin and 4pin psu connections.
Tried to start again and no bootup.
I bought a new psu (not an HP one but it is still a compatible 250W).
Still no power up.
I had a 480W psu and tried that still no power up.
They all show a green light on the outside when plugged in,   Even took out some RAM.
Even moved the cmos pins back and forth.  Change voltage switch back and forth in the back of the psu (it is set to 115V).
NOTE: For all three psu’s I was able to jump start them with a power clip and then the fans started to work but still no bootup.  But by using the paper clip was the only times the fan would work.
The only thing I did notice was when the attempt to bootup with the original psu and a vga monitor plugged in, the monitor said “enter power-save mode” and then shut off.
My last resort would be to get a new power switch.  That is the only thing I can think off and of course the last thing would be that my mother board is dead).
(is there a way to check your motherboard with a voltmeter, I doubt it).
I did remove and re-install printer drivers for a brother laserjet, have norton 360 and hp and windows updates running.
my son plays games on the internet, have itunes but is that is about it.  i was able to do this when it would work again for a new days.
Thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated and an early xmas gift,
mmpd

Hi,
What hardware changes have you made to the PC?
Do you hear any beeps?  Does the CPU fan spin when you push the power button?
Get a can of compress air and thoroughly blow out the CPU heat sink.
Local PC repair shops to carry motherboard testers.  You might want search the forum for issues with your motherboard.

    Hi
    Toshiba support people,
I have a Toshiba Equium A300D that has suddenly decided to not power on - I have held down the power on/off button, held down control alt del, turned
it over to look for a reset button and found no button at all on the back - do not know if there is any other key command I can use to get it to boot up -
Can any one out there suggest what I can do?
Its like as if it is trapped in sleep mode.
The equium light is not on either or the touch pad stuff will not light up...
    Thanks,

    Try this:
Remove the battery, disconnect the AC adaptor
Then wait several minutes (~30min) and connect both parts again.
Then try to power up the machine.
Check it out and post the results.

  • 845E Max will not power on or boot

I have an 845e Max(MS-6566E) and it will boot up once and run perfect until it is turned off and then it will not boot up again for some time.  when i say will not boot i mean no fans, no power, nothing.  I have tried several things, resetting the bios, changing the bios battery, different power supplies, even changed cases.  This board does not have anything to indicate it is getting any power like a LED so im not sure on that one.  Every once in a while when i turn the power supply back on i will see the fan jump.  Usually after i have pulled the power to the mobo and reconnected it.  Sometimes it will happen even when i connect the power to the mobo(the PS is ofcourse switched off at this point)  I cant think of anything else to try.  It runs fine once it boots up, reset works perfect.  its only when its turned off that it has the problems.  I got it to boot a few times today and thought i had fixed it by replacing the battery but now im having the same problem and have not gotten it to boot in the last two hours.  any help would be appreciated.

Looking at the PSUs that you guys are using, I'm pretty surprised that the system is still running.
Get a PSU with at least 400watts and 18A minimum on +12v rail.

My ipad mini will not power off, nor will it respond to any commands.  The ICloud Backup reminder (which I do not use and have not activated)is stuck on the screen and will not clear.

Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds and see if you can get it to reboot.

  • My presario will not power up

pc   will not power up the batter is good

Model number? Lots of Presarios out there since the late '90s. Try a hard reset. Pull the battery and detach the AC adapter. Hold down the power button 30 seconds then wait another 30 seconds then plug in the AC adapter and see if it comes on. Its a longshot but it is easy to do.

  • DV4 1275 Power Issue, Battery not charging, Will not Power with AC only

    HP Pavillion DV4-1275mx
Battery will not charge, Laptop will not fully turn on with battery in (battery not charging at all).  Laptop will not power on at all with no battery using only AC and with battery it will attempt to load and die due to lack of charge.
Have tried 3 diff HP chargers.
The orginial 1 that came with the laptop is dead and will not charge anything. Tried it on a diff HP laptop and not recognizing any power
The 2nd one is OE HP laptop diff model but same wattage that came with my gfs work laptop.  I have charge my laptop with it before in the past however it is not charging the battery now either
The 3rd is a aftermarket generic one that my g/f bought in the airport and it works with hers as well however I have never used it on mine.
I have tried hard resetting.. taking out battery, holding power for a min and replugging everything.
Also when I remove the battery and plug in either of the chargers that do work the power LED are "not" lighting up on the front or the LED where the AC plugs into the laptop.  Which makes you think the charger is bad however the 2 working chargers do work on my other 2 HP laptops.
If i plugin one of the 2 working chargers with the battery it will go through the boot process and as its starting windows it just dies and shuts off.  The power led by the DC jack does light up and the charging light on the front lights up. However this only works when I unplug the battery and plug the AC charger in. After the laptop boots up to starting windows and dies. I have to remove the battery and replace it to get the LEDS to light back up..  If the MB was bad I wouldnt think any of the LED's would come on nor would the laptop boot up to the starting windows. If  keep trying to turn it on the booting time is shortened as the battery is not holding a charge and sometimes it only makes a few seconds and then just dies out.
I dont have alot of money to spend so I was hoping maybe you could point me in the right direction.
Should I buy the replacement part OE charger for my specific laptop? (not sure if its going to be much diff than the others since they are all 65 watt chargers)
Should I buy a new battery as well?
Or does this sound like a short problem in the mother board or a solder issue with the DC plugin?
If it is an issue with the motherboard I do not want to go through the hassle of buying the battery and charger as I will end up having to just replace the laptop
If you could please advise me what direction to go I would be so greatful.

Dude, I have the same exact problem with mine. It's not a cheap fix either. It definitely is the motherboard.
I'm no expert, but I believe the problem is a dead capacitor on the motherboard preventing it to build up a charge.
I spoke with an HP rep, which told me it's $398 for them to fix.
I let them know that I didn't have another $400 to put into this laptop. So, they suggested I try reseating the motherboard. And also reseating the memory modules.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01597750.pdf
That is a pdf of the laptop's manual. It'll help in reseating. Page ( 59 ) for the motherboard. Page ( 67 ) for the memory modules.
This hasn't helped at all with mine, but maybe it'll help with yours!

  • Will not power up?? Curve 8330

8330 is stuck in a loop......and will not power on.   Red light is on, then the screen will light up like it is powering on and then go black again.    Tried pulling battery(several hours) and same issue.

Leave the device to charge 2-3 hours, and then, still connected to the USB cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. If it boots--leave it to charge to 100% (check Options > Status for the percentage).
If it doesn't boot--try using a wall outlet charger if you are not. If you are connected via USB to the PC, make certain that you have Desktop Manager (or the USB device drivers) installed, which you can download below.
Make certain your USB cable is connected to one of the PC's main rear USB ports. Not a USB hub, nor a monitor USB port, nor a USB port on the front of the PC.
    Download Desktop Manager from here:

    No no no.
As pointed out in the User's Guide, other sources, and numerous times in these and other forums, the Reset will very often work you past this.
Press & hold both the Home and the Sleep/Wake buttons for about 10 seconds, until the white Apple logo appears, then let the boot process continue. More information about this, plus of course lots of other stuff, is available in the Tips & Troubleshooting section of the Guide.
Stophon, please don't provide answers unless and until you develop a bit more experience with the iPad and iOS than you obviously now have.

  • T60 will not power up (battery status led green, power status led green)

Ok so I have been researching this for a couple days now. Trying various things............
Including the famous 10 second power button press discharge.........
    Symptoms:
1st Disclaimer - coffee was exploded all over the laptop but has been running for a month.
    Symptoms:
It has been working post coffee spill (several weeks ago) as long as you left it running. I get cocky and turn it off then it wont come back on.
The laptop has exhibited the inability to power on since but I have been able to get it  to turn on several times since.
green power light comes on with AC adapter only
plug battery in and the battery light goes green
press the power button - both lights go out
I replaced the keyboard, battery, tested for 20 Volts on the AC adapter, tested for 2-3 volts on the CMOS battery.
I tried testing for 20 volts on the motherboard where the power supply cable connects. I have most of the laptop broke down still.
I did get it running again last night as a result of me incorrectly using the multimeter and short circuiting the power supply connector .
It booted up and ran fine and I even tried turning it off and on again several times.
I thought it might be a heat issue. I turned it off and tried to turn it on this morning and it will not power up.
    Same symptoms as before.
no battery, only power connected, green light comes on, plug in the battery, battery light goes green, try to turn it on and the lights go out.
It seems like it is fixable but I am not sure what to look for next.
Or should I be looking for another system board...........if so what should I replace it with
This is an IBM T60 Type 2613 15" screen.

    Welcome to the forum!
Your best bet would indeed be a new system board. Any single one from a non-widescreen T60/p will work.
I've got dozens of them available - send me a PM if you're interested.

This didn't work for me, so I did a bit of searching and TONS of pages later in google, I found an answer. Here are the steps for people who also were in my situation:
    1. Take off bottom case
    2. Unplug battery - blurry image here: http://i.ytimg.com/vi/03cC79r5Dx4/0.jpg
    3. Press and hold power button for 5 seconds
    4. Plug a charger in, and it should start booting up
    5. After shutting down again, reconnect the battery and close the case up
    6. It works! (hopefully, if you guys had the same situation I did)

  • After unplugging and moving my pxi-1002 it will not power on

need to get this thing powered back up ASAP. have presentation using it on thursday.

I'll let you know of some possible reasons for this, but I might need more information to go off of. I'll just list off my thoughts:
    1. The chassis is just not getting power: It isn't plugged in, that particular outlet is bad, a surge protector is not working correctly, etc. You mentioned moving the chassis, does it work back in its old location?
    2. There are no modules plugged into the controller: I don't have a 1002 to check this, but I know that the 1006 will not power on unless the minimal load is met... meaning it needs to have a module or controller actually in the chassis.
    3. Too much power draw from module: If a pin was bent somehow causing a short to ground, that could be a possible problem. Or, a particular module just might have issues by
itself. What do you have in your chassis? Try removing everything but the controller. If it boots up, then you can shut down and insert different modules to isolate the problem.
If none of this helps, let me know and I'll see what else I can find out. Any information you can provide would be great. I hope this gets worked our before Thursday.

  • IMac will not power up!  Help!

I have an iMac that for some reason will not power up, at all.
The specs are: 800 MHz, iMac G4, 512 MB.
It stopped detecting the available WiFi network in my home regardless of where I located it. So I rest PRAM, and no change. I reset NVRAM and all in open firmware, no change. Pulled the RAM and AirPort card and reseated; no change.
So I reset the PMU (pushed it quickly and only once) and now it will not start up at all. No fan. No lights. Nothing.
I don't have any extra plugged into the iMac now. I pulled the RAM and Airport card and have tried booting with and without just the keyboard plugged in.
I've unplugged it and let it set for over 24 hours and still nothing. I have noticed that when I plug it in, the overhead incandescent bench light on the same circuit dims or flickers ever so slightly for a very brief moment.
So I'm leaning towards one of the following:
    1. PMU crash meaning I need to replace the logic board
    2. Fried logic board which is likely why the Airport card stopped responding (which, by the way, was somewhat intermitant at first)
    3. PMU crash that can somehow miraculously be reset saving me from having to get a replacement logic board
    4. Bad battery (haven't checked this yet as it seems the machine would show some sign of life if it had a bad battery. This thing is lifeless).

    Hello slee:
You have, IMHO, analyzed the problem. I think it is time to take the computer to either an Apple store or to an Apple certified repair shop for diagnosis. I do not think you want to begin replacing things that may be OK.

  • Acer Aspire V5-571 will not power on

Apologies - just posted this question in Welcome Forum by mistake.Computer will not power on, was working perfectly last night when I shut down. Have tried all suggestions in Knowledge Base with no success. Any help very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have had this problem twice now. My system is working just fine. I power it down and take it to work or home. I get to my destination and plug in my system and i get NO lights of any kind. It will not power up at all. I get NOTHING. My laptop is all of a month old. I pull out my screwdriver and take off the bottom cover. I check connections etc. Everthing is tight and clean. BUT note that I have touched several metal components. Did I just ground out any stray charges? I don't know. But Now after doing nothing more then looking and touching I put the case back together. Turn if over and plug everythign back in again and NOW it powers up.  The second time same thing only this time it gets to the Acer screen and nothing. I power off/on and try again. Acer screen. After 2 cycles of this I swap out the power block (19V @ 3.42A acer just like the original). After 2 more cycles I swap back to the original. I try #5 and i'm getting ready to power off again when I get the floting balls wait sign and I wait.... now up until now boot up on windows 8 has always been less then a minute. This time its taken like 6 minutes to boot up. NOTE It updated to 8.1 last thursday (I HATE auto updating! it is now turned off!). So any ideas here? is this a static buildup issue? Is this a design issue? Power board or plug issue? What is the problem here Acer. I LOVE my 1st acer aspire 5210z until the screen died. So I buy the awesome new one and   ACER HELP!!!!
