Will the 320GB, 5400RPM 2.5in Serial ATA replacement hard drive work in my Pavilion dv6928us laptop?

I have a HP Pavilion 6000 series, actual model number dv6928us which came with a 250GB Serial ATA 9.5mm, 2.5in hard drive.       Can I use the 320GB unit I found on line which has the same specs but has the larger capacity?    Thank you for your help.

Yes you can use a 320GB SATA Hard drive with no problems whatsoever on the Notebook.

  • Will my G4 be OK with an ATA/100 hard drive in front the carrier?

I want to put another Hard-drive in my Dual 1.25 G4 (MDD). It already has two 120 gig drives - the one that came with the machine, and another 120 gig which is in the same carrier as the system drive.
In the manual it says that the other carrier (front) is only for ATA/66 drives.
A dealer assures me that this is incorrect, and that on my machine, both drive carriers can take ATA/100.
I just wanted to get a second opinion here before I ordered a new drive - as all the available drives seem to be ATA/100.

You will be fine. The front drive bay is in fact ATA-66, but this is not a problem. An ATA-100 drive can operate at the lower speed without trouble.
In fact, the real-world speed differences between ATA-100 and ATA-66 are minimal, so there should not be any performance issues.
    Cheers!

  • Serial ata sata hard drive

    Hi members
I have a msi k8mm3 motherboard and want to connect a serial sata raid hd. but when i press tab to go into sata bios a get error message saying you need 2 hd to setup can some one tell me how to set up a diamond max 7L300RO serial ata sata raid and what the error meam.robin

You need the same size and preferably brand/model to make a RAID 0 or 1
With raid-0 you can, in theory, increase read/write performance. If one drive goes bad, you lose all data on both disks (half of the data is written to one disk, half to the other at the same time, that's why the performance comes from). In daily life, you won't notice that much of an increase, unless you work with many large files (video editing).
With Raid-1, you continuously make a copy of the disk you work from. In Windows you will only "see" one of both disks. The RAID controller sees to it that the data you write, is written to both disks, so if one goes bad, you can continue working from the other.
If you want to use only one SATA disk, you can. Set it to IDE in your bios or disable SATA RAID.
You can find the how-to in your board's manual.

The iBook uses the parallel ATA drive.

  • HT201250 I have an iMac with 2 external hardrives. Will the G Speed Q set up these external hard drives

My iMac has two external hard drives. I have the G Speed Q for backup . Will this automatically back up these two external hard drives ?

Time Machine will not automatically backup external drives unless you remove them from the Exclude list. However, if the drives are disconnected, then you will need to reconfigure Time Machine once again not to exclude them.
Time Machine is intended mainly to backup internal drives to external drives, not to backup external drives to other external drives.

  • Will Serial ATA or SATA Hard Drives work in a Powerbook G4?

I have a 15" Powerbook G4, 867MHz, and I'm looking to buy a new internal Hard Drive. After a few searches, it appears I need a 2.5" HD, but I don't know much about hardware so I'm hoping someone can clarify for me:
Will a Serial ATA or SATA HD work or do I need to find an ATA-100 or older drive?
Is there a maximum RPM or size capacity that will work with my Powerbook G4?
    Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help. For anyone else looking at this thread, I was also told at fries that PATA (Parallel ATA) is the new name for ATA/IDE Hard Drives. I just installed a Western Digital 2.5" 250GB PATA drive and haven't had any problems so far. Actually, when I updated from 10.5 to 10.5.8 and restarted, I was stopped at the gray screen with the prohibitory sign (circle with a line through it), but this could be unrelated. After powering off and rebooting, everything booted fine, so I'm assuming things are ok at this point.

External hard drive connected to my airport extreme will no longer open, when navigating to it in Finder, the Finder window quits and reopens, cannot access hard drive, it is visible in airport utility, since the problem began I have updated firmware on Extreme as well as both of my Airport Expresses. Hard drive is USB connected to Extreme.

Reboot the USB drive.. assuming it is powered.. or unplug and replug a self-powered drive.. (you should not use self-powered drives on AE before the latest model.. always use a powered hub).
Does the drive now appear in finder..
If not reboot both drive and the AE.. it should now appear.
If it doesn't work with direct connection try a powered hub.. that can help.

I have seen so much response about the Mountain Lion update slowing down computers.  I am updating from Mac OS x 10.6.8.  What can I do to ensure the upgrade will go fine?  Do I unplug my external hard drive before installing, or keep it plugged in?
Also, I have the 08 version of iWork. Will this cause problems for the update?  Can I update this AFTER I update the processor?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There's no reason to think that Mountain Lion will slow down your Mac. Just make a backup of your data before upgrading with Time Machine > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
Also, check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com Upgrade them to a compatible version or delete them before upgrading.
The external drive won't make the OS X Mountain Lion installer fail, but it's better to unplug it during the upgrade.
iWork '08 is compatible with Mountain Lion. iWork '09 includes OS X Mountain Lion features and can be purchased at the Mac App Store.
To upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion, I recommend at least 4 GB of RAM. You can check how much memory you have in Apple menu > About this Mac

If I choose a hard drive ask my backup disk for time machine, will it clear out the data that was previously stored in my hard drive?

    Hello edjhsu,
Unless the drive is in a format that isn't compatible with Time Machine, the files will not be overrwitten. However it is typically a better idea to keep your files and your backup separate, especially since files on the Time Machine drive will not be backed up by Time Machine.

As long as the profiles are different (ex. HID vs AD2P) you will not have any issues. But say if you try to use 2 keyboards at once, it won't work. Or 2 headsets at once. Your scenario seems fine.

Well, there are different versions of Sata.  See:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA#Revisions
I think this is the info someone would need:
You may want to post machine info.
blue apple > about this mac > more info button. Click on the hardware line. It has a little triangle in front of the word hardware.
    Leave out the serial number.
    Example:
    Machine Name: iMac
    Machine Model: PowerMac4,1
    CPU Type: PowerPC 750 (33.11)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 600 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.1.9f1
Look around & see if you can find the bus speed for the SATA.

  • Will this hard drive work in my 2009 MBP 13 inch?

Hello, I've decided to upgrade the hard drive in my Mid 2009 MBP 13 inch to roughly a 500gb from 250gb. My friend has a 2011 MBP 13" and he just upgraded it to 1TB and has his 500gb 5400rpm SATA 2 and said I can have it. Will that hard drive work in my 2009 MBP without any headaches? I just want to be sure before I put it in...Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!

I think 750GB is the Max you can install in your 09 MB.  ( not a 100% sure )
I've seen some people trying to install 1TB on their 09 MB and had issues.
Give it a shot, if it doesn't work, you can always exchange it for the smaller 750GB.
    Good luck..

  • What will Apple charge me to replace hard drive?

My iMac hard drive is failing and needs to be replaced (according to Disk Utility). What will Apple charge me to replace hard drive or should I just do it myself? Purchased new in mid-2010 and I do not have AppleCare. I've seen videos on replacing the hard drive and it seems a bit tricky. Any advice?

Thanks for the response and suggestion. I will give them a call once I get ho,e and have my serial number etc on hand. If anyone has done this, please post what you were charged. Thanks!
