I'm looking into buying a new Thunderbolt Display, but do I need to buy a new MacBook Pro or will the Thunderbolt Display work with my Black 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook?
Yes. You'll need to create a Mavericks USB installer from the App Store download, and the App Store is only available with 10.6 and above, so that's a challenge for you to overcome, but that SSD will install just fine.

I'm investigating whether I can take on 'Lion' when it's released. The information states that your mac needs 'Intel Core 2 Duo'. Is this the same as '2 GHz Intel Core Duo' which is what it actually states my mac has when I click 'About This Mac'?
I could not agree more! My MBP 2007 Intel Core Duo has had its logic board replaced not to long ago (DVI port died). The original hard drive is running great and I am running Snow Leopard wonderfully.
I was amped during the keynote and am really looking forward to Lion. I know the community is working hard to uncover a workaround because at present time, the solution (by new!) is not a worthy one. Especially when there is literally, nothing wrong with my existing machine.
Apple, please ensure Lion will be available for Intel Core Duo machines, we are not that old! The closed architecture approach produces quality hardware. 4 years is a toddler perhaps teenager when it comes to apple hardware and technology. I predict I have at least 3-4 more years left in my current MBP 2007 machine.

I would like to buy OS X Lion and install it on my MacBook Pro with 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo, but this processor is not in the list of the specifications (Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 or Xeon processor).
Is it really true that I can't install Lion on my Mac? If so, what is the reason?It has to be a Core 2 Duo. Those are the requirements for Lion.

Will Intel Core Duo image work with Intel Core 2 Duo image
I soon need to start preparing an image for the next school year since we are soon going to start moving into a completely new campus which images will need to be ready for lab imaging over the summer and the sooner I can have a lab image ready to be tested the better, but my question is......
If I create an Intel image on a "Intel Core Duo Processor " which we have currently, to then create this image and then push out two two complete brand new labs of what will be "Intel Core 2 Duo Processors"
I know in the past I have created images on the highest PowerPC computer (G5) and had the image on G3's, G4's, G5's etc. an work. I'm not sure if the difference in the processor will require the image to be made on the very same computer or not. If so, we will need to purchase one.
Anyways..... just wondering if someone has already tested this or played around with it?

CarterThe build version on the Core Duo models is not the same as the build version on the Core 2 Duo models. These individual builds are customized for their respective hardware. The only version of OS X that will be common for all Intel models will be a public build version that supercedes both custom builds.
The extant builds are here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303315. However, the table does not include the latest Core 2 Duo MBP.
If you upgrade all Intel Macs to 10.4.8 then an image of that version of OS X should be common to all Intel Macs.

Using new battery on old 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo
I am in a remote location, under a deadling. My 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro battery cable finally went south. I'm in a studio with half a dozen brand new battery units ... for 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 MacBook Pro's.
Can I use the battery from a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 MacBook Pro on my older 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo???

BenAs I wrote above, there is no possibility of using one of the new batteries in your old machine: it absolutely won't fit. Furthermore, removing the battery from one of the new machines will void the warranty on that machine, so even if you could contrive a wiring harness to connect one of the new batteries externally to your MBP, there would be good reason not to do it.
And if you did, there is no way to predict how the charging system in your machine would respond to the incorrect battery. Would it be charged at all? Would it be charged only to the capacity of the battery specified for use in your computer, which is far lower than the capacity of the new battery? Would the SMC in your machine recognize the battery and distribute the power from it correctly? The answers to these and many other related questions are anybody's guess.
So the solution to your immediate problem will be to move your work onto one of the newer computers, finish it up by the deadline, and order a new battery for your own computer. -

I have a macbook 13" late 2006 and i found it was cheaper to buy a 13" Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz Intel Core Duo Ram, I was just wondering if the ram out of the pro model will fit my older model?

MacBook 13" Late 2006 is a MacBook2,1 and that uses PC2-5300 DDR2 667 MHz ram.
MacBook Pro 13" did not use 2.4 GHz but the first of the 13" models was the MacBook Pro7,1 and that uses PC3-8500 DDR3 1066 MHz ram.
Those are not compatible and cannot be used interchangeably. -
Had hard drive failure on MacBook 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo, so had to rebuild the OS on new drive. Was on Lion 10.7.5 prior to failure, but had to reinstall Snow Leopard 10.6.3 since that was most recent OS on media I had. After finally getting ethernet connection to router working, was able to get to internet and download / upgrade to 10.6.8. I assume I can probably buy the upgrade to Mountain Lion 10.8 from there.
Problem is this, Airport will not stop self-assigning IP address for my wireless connection, and unless I can get wireless back on this laptop, doesn't make a lot of sense to continue the rebuild and reinstall of all the software that was on it prior to HD failure. Only way to my home network and router is ethernet now. Everything else on my network (Apple MacBook Pro laptops, iPhones, desktops, and non-Apple printers and laptops) is hooking up to router wirelessly fine.
Any ideas how to resolve successfully so that the airport will stop self-assigning and allow the router to assign the IP address?When see the beachball cursor, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

My 5 yr old 2 GHz Intel Core Duo 20" iMac, right after I disconnected
an external HD that had been on the desktop (i.e. I forgot to eject it
properly), started displaying video anomalies (lines); testing
(TechTool Deluxe 3.1.3) indicates the video is failing.
The graphics card is an ATI Radeon X1600. Is this reasonably
replaceable? If so, is the "MPC ClientPro 434 All In One ATI MXM X1600
PCIe 128MB Video Card" I found on eBay (for $25, used) essentially the
same unit?
My soldering skills are, sadly, poor.
And it only dawned on me a couple days ago that because this iMac does
not have a Core 2 Duo processor, it will not be able to enter the
"Lion" generation.

Replacing/Upgrading the 15" 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro HDD?
I was wondering if it is possible to replace the 15" 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro HDD from a 5400 RPM to a 7200 RPM. I plan on recording using Logic Pro so I will most likely need a faster hard drive. If so, what are some good, compatible hard drives to look into.

It is very tiring to see you respond to everyone who asks this question with "get an external drive". I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who want more storage WITHOUT having to tote extra gear around.
Yes external drives are useful, but they don't answer the question asked.

The fn key and movement keys on a MacBookPro 2 GHz Intel Core Duo
This is my first notebook computer so it may be obvious, but I cannot figure out how to use the fn key in combination with movement keys. While the fn home (right arrow) and end keys work, if you add any other command keys, like ctrl, shift, option, cmd the fn key seems not to function. For example shift-home (fn-left arrow-shift) which should extend the selection to the beginning of the line just functions as shift-left arrow. When I attach an external keyboard everything works as it should.
Actually, having played with things a bit just now, things seem to work oddly. If I hit shift (and hold it) then fn (and hold) and then left arrow, things work as they should, but if I hit fn (and hold) then shift (and hold) and then left arrow, it reacts as though I hit shift and left arrow only.
Is this normal (if it is it is strange to me)?

I Have a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 macbook pro, I recieved it with OSx 7.2 lion installed, I need to us AHT (apple hardware test) according to the support page that I copy here

Apple Hardware Test is included on the DVDs that are shipped with some Macintosh computers. If the copy on your hard drive becomes unavailable, use the DVDs to run Apple Hardware Test.
For Intel-based Apple computers that shipped with Mac OS X v10.5.4 or earlier, Apple Hardware Test is located on the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 and should be included with your computer.
For Apple computers that shipped with Mac OS X v10.5.5 to 10.6.7, Apple Hardware Test is located on the Applications Install Disc 2 and should be included with your computer.
For some Apple computers that shipped with OS X Lion, if Apple Hardware Test cannot be found on the hard drive, an Internet-based version starts up instead.
This doesn't work as the additional information statement says it should above. Could someone at apple give me an idea of where to get it or what the "REAL" solution is, since it doesn't work on an internet version which was confirmed today at the Genius Bar in the Apple store.

Are you holding down the "d" key, all by itself, just after the system shuts down for a restart?
And how long did you hold it down?
I held mine down for about 40-50 seconds. Then I lookat at my routers WAN light and it was flickering so I let up on the d key.
If that does not work then maybe there is something wrong with your MBP. Is that the reason you want to run this test, something isn't right with your unit?
