Win 7 wifi causes my WRT54G to slow down 20x till reset

My wrt54g (firmware old - v1.00.6) has run fine for years until my daughter got a laptop with win7. All my other systems still run XP or win2k. I only run wireless with her win7 and one netbook with xp, all the other connections are wired.
Going to speedtest.net and after I reset (pull power) the router, I get 20Mbps download. After the win7 wifi runs for a bit, download speed drops to 2 Mbps or less. It seems to be after she goes to you tube and starts watching videos. If I reset again, it immediately goes back to the full speed of 20. I measure this after she's taken her laptop off the network. So, whatever her win7 is doing, it stays that way after she disconnects (i.e. slow on my other systems) until the reset. I also measured the speed on her win7 system and it also would slow there as well and speed up after a reset (for a while).
Any ideas here? Would a newer firmware fix this? I read somewhere that some settings in win7 can fix this, but couldn't find out what they were.

It would greatly help that the router’s needs a firmware upgrade and a reset since you are experiencing intermittent connection. By the way, were you experiencing this problem on both wireless computers or only on the win 7 laptop? If the problem is only with the win 7 laptop, then you might need to update the drivers of the win 7 laptop wireless adapter. If in case that the problem is with both computers then you need to optimize the wireless performance of the router. You can use this tool: : http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/ to select the best channel that you can use on your router and then check if the router’s wireless performance will improve.

    Hello, I'm pretty sure my fan on my 2009 mac book pro has stopped running. Would this cause the computer to slow down and take for ever to boot up and show the color wheel every time I select an application ? how involved to replace fan ? cost ?
    thanks

    Not directly, but if the CPU overheats because of incompatible software, that would cause slowdowns. Do not allow the computer to run if the fan is not working unless you wish to fry your motherboard. Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • Wetransfer js error causes my computer to slow down

    Every time I send a file via WeTransfer I end up with a js error and then my MacBook Pro slows down to a grinding halt...literally. You can hear the hard drive grinding away. Every time I try to move the mouse or select a file or drop down I get the beachball which will hang for about 10-15 seconds before anything happens. I end up having to shut down all my programs and restarting to get the laptop back to normal. This only happens with WeTransfer. Any ideas what I can do to resolve the issue other than not using WeTransfer?

    First my computer turns off and goes black, then this window shows up...
    After that this shows up after typing in my password on the log in page...
    If I leave the HD plugged in after clicking either response the computer will just shut down again.
    If I unplug the HD this window shows up explaining the problem...

  • GE60 fan problem. speeds up and slows down constantly [EC reset done]

    My model is GE60 OCN and bios and EC is the newest ones for win7 embeded on msi website.
    I have the same problem with others if you search here 'ge60 fan'.
    The temperature between 50~60℃ the fans runs slow and really quite.
    But if the temperature goes down under about 46℃, it speed up and slows down constantly and it is annoying and much noiser.
    I think msi should provide new EC firmware for this. Even the temperature is low, it annoys and nosier than when the temperature is between 50~60℃.
    Please check this problem and provide new EC firmware for fan policy.
    Someone has uploaded video link: youtube.com/watch?v=OQjjjVOpsEQ
    this is exact problem with me as well.

    I have exactly the same problem. Let's continue in the other thread (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165613.0)

  • WRT54GS keeps slowing down

    I have a WRT54GS connected to 2 Ethernet-wired PCs and 2 powerline-connected PCs. Most of the time, it is just used by an Ethernet-wired PC sitting next to it. I subscribe to Yahoo SBCGlobal DSL (now owned by AT&T) with a SpeedStream 5100 DSL modem.
    Every few hours hours, the connection speed slows drastically, sometimes to well below dial-up speed (SBCGlobal has a site where you can test your connection rate). It does not speed up by itself. By setting up the router again, powering down and up the router, modem, and the computer -- I have not yet figured out yet exactly what fixes the problem -- eventually I can get the connection back up to DSL speed.
    I believe the problem is specific to the router, because I never have a speed problem when the DSL modem is directly hooked up to the PC next to it.
    I have verified that I have the latest version of router firmware, and I have used Linksys's EasyConnection diagnostics, which says everything is ok. I have read through the Linksys online docs and the messages on this forum, but I have not figured out the problem yet.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind that this is problem with a wired, not a wireless, PC connection. Thanks in advance.

    Hi… I think you should try reducing the MTU on the router to 1400 or 1300. If you still face the same problem, upgrade the firmware of the router.

  • Dimension Security causing SSAS cube to slow down

    Hi,
    Experiencing problems with with the SSAS cube once its processed. Sometimes takes around 20 mins for the excel to load once you drag down any dimension.The cube has got no calc scripts/named sets etc.It has around 17 dimensions and one dimension(Employer)
    has got 46 attributes and another (member)17.Others are pretty small.The Employer dimension is used twice as role playing and the both employer/member have got dimension security applied to it.There are about 6 roles have been set up to restrict access to
    members in these dimensions.
    The SQL profiler shows multiple "Query Dimension" (mostly for Employer dimension)followed by a lot of "Calculate Non Empty Current"s  .Suspect that the delay is due to the dimension security expression evaluation.This only happens
    during first access of the cube within a role and it's relatively quick when I'm accessing via a role which doesn't have dimension security applied to it.Is there anyway to automatically trigger this process right after the cube has been processed so that
    it doesn't cause agony to the first user?

    You could build a cache warmer that connects with EffectiveUserName=YourDomain\user1 on the connection string and loop through each user. But what is your dimension security expression? Maybe we can speed it up.

  • WRT54G V6 slowing down network

    Hi, a week ago there was a lightning storm around the area where I live. After the storm passed, my router has been acting weird. I've called my ISP (optimum online) and they did tests on my connection. When my computer is direct connected, the internet is fine, but when I'm connected through the router, the whole network lags. I have a WRT54G v6 with firmware version 1.02.2 and I am on a Dell xps with windows xp. During certain times of the day, my network lags and sometimes its fine. Please help, thanks.
    Message Edited by etorix on 07-14-2007 08:21 AM

    change the MTU settings on the router to 1452 ..
    and does it happen on only the wired or wireless or both ??

  • ListCellRenderer causing extra looping and slow down, please help

    Guys
    Please could you kindly help me with my long-lasting problem
    concerning ListCellRenderer.
    I sent it originally to Programming Essentials but no replies at all:
    http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5388059&tstart=15
    Here is more detailed description of my problem that did not fit to my original posting (chech link above):
    For your convenience I made a special simplified version of my problem.
    Here are two fully compilable java-files that indicate my problem with simple GUI and System.out.print output. Please try to run my program, please.
    I try use ListCellRenderer and ListSelectionListener with a simple interactive list that contains four names, either male or female names, like:
    Bill
    James
    Martin
    Peter
    With a simple button "Change gender" the names can be changes to female names, and then again male names, etc...
    If you select THE FIRST NAME in the list and press "Change gender" button, the System.print.out shows unnecessarily repeating loops.These accumulating extra loops slow seriously down performance with long lists.
    Example output (the first name selected, so accumulating extra loops!!):
    Entering method ChangeGender
    ChengeGender method (name, index): Bill, 0
    Cell renderer (name, index): Bill, 0
    ChengeGender method (name, index): James, 1
    Cell renderer (name, index): Bill, 0
    Cell renderer (name, index): James, 1
    ChengeGender method (name, index): Martin, 2
    Cell renderer (name, index): Bill, 0
    Cell renderer (name, index): James, 1
    Cell renderer (name, index): Martin, 2
    ChengeGender method (name, index): Peter, 3
    Cell renderer (name, index): Bill, 0
    Cell renderer (name, index): James, 1
    Cell renderer (name, index): Martin, 2
    Cell renderer (name, index): Peter, 3
    Quitting method ChangeGender
    However, if you select OTHER NAMES THAN THE FIRST ONE (or no names at all) and press "Change gender", then no extra loops occur in System.out.print. Why?
    Example output (the second name selected, so no extra loops):
    Entering method ChangeGender
    ChengeGender method (name, index): Bill, 0
    ChengeGender method (name, index): James, 1
    ChengeGender method (name, index): Martin, 2
    ChengeGender method (name, index): Peter, 3
    Cell renderer (name, index): Bill, 0
    Cell renderer (name, index): James, 1
    Cell renderer (name, index): Martin, 2
    Cell renderer (name, index): Peter, 3
    Quitting method ChangeGender
    I will have list containing hundreds of names and therefore extra loops slow severely my application.
    Please explain how to avoid extra loops, also when the first name is selected.
    And please - if just possible - show me exactly which rows of my program must be rewritten and how.
    Thank you very much!

    Change
    for (int counter = 0 ; counter < names.length; counter++) {
        defaultListModel.addElement(names[counter]);
    }to
    ListDataListener[] listeners = defaultListModel.getListDataListeners();
    for(ListDataListener listener : listeners) {
        defaultListModel.removeListDataListener(listener);
    for (int counter = 0; counter < names.length; counter++) {
        defaultListModel.addElement(names[counter]);
    ListDataEvent evt = new ListDataEvent(defaultListModel,
            ListDataEvent.INTERVAL_ADDED,0,names.length-1);
    for(ListDataListener listener : listeners) {
        defaultListModel.addListDataListener(listener);
        listener.intervalAdded(evt);
    }

  • I am running xp and the last time I tried to upgrade to Firefox 5 it caused my computer to slow down become unstable and eventually my hard drive crashed.

    However I do believe the hard drive had other issues that just might have been further compromised by downloading 5. Talked to a couple of others who have also had bad problems after downloading 5 and that is what really concerns me is that my problem is not isolated. I have just got my computer back up and running and am very concerned about continuing with the 5 upgrade that was automatically downloaded and will be installed the next time I start up. How do I prevent the download from installing upon start up next time until I can get some clearer info on why 5 is causing some problems and can avoid them?

    My mother just had this problem. After uninstalling a bunch of search malware, i was still seeing the bing tab come up on start up. The way I fixed this is to delete any shortcuts, remove it from the task bar and the start menu list. It appears this crappy malware modified the firefox and chrome(if installed) shortcuts to open bing.
    Of course another way is to modify the shortcuts to remove the link that they added. It was easier for me to remove and just re-pin.
    Hopefully that solves your problem too.

  • Where clause causing a query to slow down in a cursor

    I have a table "the_table" with about 10,000 rows and four columns (id, description, inventory, and category).
    This query returns all rows immediately:
        select id
             , description
             , inventory
        from the_table
        where category =  nvl(null, category);
    However, when it is put into a cursor, like this:
    (p_user_category is a user-defined variable which can be null if the user wants all of the rows)
        c_results  sys_refcursor;
        open c_results for
            select id
                 , description
                 , inventory
            from the_table
            where category =  nvl(p_user_category, category);
        fetch c_results into v_id, v_description, v_inventory;
        close c_results;
    then it takes five minutes to return even just one row when p_user_category is null.
    However, if I change the where clause to:
        where (p_user_category is null or category = p_user_category)
    then it returns all rows immediately.
    It started being a problem right around the time of the most recent update - I am running 11.2.0.2.0 (64-bit production).

    The optimizer is smart enough to recognise that null is null, so "nvl(null,category)" collapses to "category", and your predicate "category = nvl(null, category)" is transformed to "category is not null" (if it's allowed to be null) or simply disappears - so the SQL test is not the same as the PL/SQL run.
    In PL/SQL your manual rewrite is not logicall the same as the original unless you have declared category to be non-null because your first disjunct will allow rows with a null category to be reported, while the original query would lose them.
    Check the execution plans for the SQL and the PL/SQL versions.

    Does anyone has any idea?

    Your RMI server invokes a JNI method as you mentioned. It seems your system resource is become very low as from the exception from "ZoneInfoMappi"
    (Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service...I would suggest the following
    1- remove the JNI method invocation and replace by a simple method which does nothing special ( counting etc..)
    2- Run the RMI sever and stress test it again
    If you see the RMI server is working well after 12 hours, then your native method is leaking i.e consuming the system resources ( RAM etc..)
    You should profile the running RMI server using jconsole

  • Help! Flashvars causing browser slow down

    Hi All,
    I have a very simple .swf file that is causing some kind of
    slow down or memory leak. It is effecting the browser its self as
    moving the mouse cursor around or selecting text becomes sluggish.
    Within the .swf, the stage is only 1px by 1px. It is meant to
    fit the size of the html element its embedded in. Once the .swf
    loads it adjusts its stage to the new dimensions. It then draws a
    rectangle movie clip to fit the new size.
    Once the rectangle is drawn the .swf then draws 50 circles of
    varying size to animate as a snow effect. I wasn't having any slow
    down until I added this snow effect in. However let me explain in
    the next paragraph that the snow is not the real culprit.
    The rectangles fill, stroke, and corner radius. Can all be
    set by variables sent to the swf. by the Flashvars attribute of
    object, and embed. Once they are retrieved by the .swf they are
    processed by a conditional statement I wrote. If one of the
    attributes isn't set they are set to a default. The code is
    attached below.
    Heres how I know the snow effect isn't the culprit. If I
    don't pass the .swf any Flashvars attribute and just let it use the
    defaults for styleObj in the .swf. The effect runs fine. If I do
    try to pass it Flashvars the slow down occurs. Is there an issue
    with my conditional statements?
    I have tried embedding using the SwfObject.js Class and using
    standard HTML tags. Both display the same issue if Flashvars are
    passed there's a slowdown if not its fine.
    If anyone could help with this, or shoot me some links with
    info I would be eternally grateful. I can also provide the source
    files if you want to take a look at it.
    I have uploaded a test page so you can see the problem in
    http://www.callmekev.com/client/test/

    Hey kglad,
    Thanks for all your help. I had the issue posted on 2 other
    forums and you are the only response I have got. I was unaware of
    the data-type functions you had listed. After some further testing
    I found that they had the same effect as using the - operator like
    I had been doing.
    I did find a solution however. I took the variables as they
    were coming in from the Flashvars attribute and saved them in new
    flash only variables as numbers. Then I assigned the Flashvars
    variables a value of null. I think the .swf was continully going
    back to the html variables causing the slow down and this gave it
    its on set to look at.
    You can check the new
    test its a lot smoother.

  • Sudden slow down after an auto-shutdown - kernel_task running hot.

    Hi,
    I was playing Braid on supremely low battery, and my MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2011) running 10.7.2, automatically turned off. Plugged it into the charger and went to bed. Booted it up next morning and it is so incredibally slow. No warning, no gradual slow down, just all of a sudden. No peripherals attached at all.
    Checked my Activity Monitor, kernal_task is running at 330mbs, from what I've seen that is pretty bad. That's the only thing I can see that is out of the ordinary.
    Anyone want to take a stab at the cause of this sudden slow down? It's making using my laptop very very tedious.

    Note: In Safe Mode kernal_task is running at 220mbs. Is that a clue? I don't know.
