Win 7 x64 Itunes and Quicktime Running in Task Manager nothing seen! Help

Ok I'm running out of ideas- I' I have uninstalled multiple time various version of itunes. It upgraded to 10 automatically then a few days ago it wouldn't run. Looking in task manager itunes and intones helper are running. Thought a simple wipe and reinstall would solve it alas no. Been trying all week various reinstalls of different versions, all the same thing occurs, It appears to be a system wide fault. Disabled Bonjour enabled- no difference. Disabled all windows services aside form the apple ones - no difference. Started in safe mode- itunes refused to start. Gave up and reinstalled 7 and it worked until a reboot (and also it itunes store and ipod drivers for Win 7 x64 are not there) where the same probelm occured. Installed airport seeing if it would update the relevant dodgy files in Bonjour.
Getting sick of finding why this is happening and I can't;t find where this bug is, and I've spent far too long trailing through the web trying to solve this and not one single one has worked so far!
Please Help!!

Sorry, Itunes+Quicktime the intaller neither of them will open (they appear to be running in task manager however). Downlaoding the sperate intaller for Quicktime, the installer on its own, then quicktime runs and opens.

  • ITunes and Quicktime Error after automatice Apple update, need help!!!

So I currently have a new labtop with windows vista. I have been runining iTunes for the pass 3 months already no problems. The Apple automatic update has never caused any problems till now. Quicktime needed to be updated today, and I accecpted the update, prior to that iTunes and Quicktime was working properly. Once the quicktime update was complete, it restarted my computer like usual. Then when I tried to open iTunes this error came up:
"iTunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration"
Now I checked the audio configuration and nothing was changed or anything, that has not been touched at all, so I still think it had to do with the update. The next error was came up when I tried to open Quicktime and it read:
    "Runtime Error!
    Program C://ProgramFiles/QuickTime/QuickTimePlayer.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information"
So as long as I have been using Quicktime and iTunes I have never encountered this, I tried to re-install but the error kept coming up after it was installed. Please help me out!

  • ITunes 11.1 running in Task Manager but does NOT Open

I have looked areound and no one seems to be having this problem (that I can tell).
My problem started when I upgraded to iTunes 11.1 running Windows 8. When I tried to open iTunes, it never opens but if I open the Task Manager I can see it running (32-bit) with a couple other Apple programs. I have downloaded with both Firefox and Chrome.
I have tried the following things:
Completely uninstalled iTunes following the steps outline by Apple (included checking all folders for files).  Same thing happened when I re-installed.
Tried to install as the Administrator.
Tried to run using Windows 7 compatibility
Refreshed my computer (erases and resets everything minus personal files) and installed iTunes 11.1 before anything. Did not work.
Once or twice it would open but as soon as I closed and tried to re-open iTunes, same thing. Never opens but running in Task Manager.
I have no idea what to do next and am running iTunes 11.1 on an OLD desktop that is not sustainable.
    Thanks in advance.

    I tried:
    - re-installing iTunes and Quicktime to both earlier versions
    - installing all possible codec's
And when I want to put it on my iPod it crashes everything..
Anyone know whats wrong? Or does anyone have the same problem?

    Hello,
You can find additional information and troubleshooting steps from the following article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2729
The symptom you mention is addressed in one of the FAQ's on the page.
Have you tried one of the free videos from the iTunes Store? You can find free video and music content on the iTunes Store. The "Free on iTunes" section is generally towards the bottom of the center column of the window.

  • Problems running iTunes and QuickTime on 17" MBP

I recently got a 17" MBP with 4MB memory from work. Everything works perfectly so far except iTunes and Quicktime. Whenever either program is open the machine completely bogs down even if nothing is playing. I've re-installed the software and repaired permissions to no avail. Obviously it's frustrating to have my 5 year old PC laptop run Apple software better...
    Any help would be appreciated!

I'm having the same problem....driving me crazy...I've tried everything...turning off my virus and firewall center....deleting it...reinstalling it from the disk and the site....and I keep getting Error code on the QT of 3 and I don't remember the one of Itunes but it won't run unless QT is installed....HELP!!!!

  • Installing iTunes and QuickTime on an HP laptop running Windows 7.

    I get error 2738 when:
              installing todays downloads or when
uninstalling a preinstalled 2009 version of QuickTime.
I have seen and successfully applied the solution offerred at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1331.
    Twice.
Restarted the computer and applied that solution again, and again with the message indicating success.
And each time get the error 2738 message.

I also looked through the earlier messages and saw something about
a logon as a simple user.
Did this and then noticed the uninstaller in QuickTime folder.
Used this and QuickTime uninstalled without error (2738 or anything else).
Continued to be logged on as this simple user.
Ran the iTunes installer (answering yes to security questions).
Installed both iTunes and QuickTime without error.

  • ITunes won't load when I click, not running in "task manager"

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. I run on Windows 7. iTunes was operating normally for me until recently... just a few days ago, I discovered that iTunes wouldn't load when I clicked on the icon on my desktop. I've tried clicking on it from the start menu and trying to open a music file via iTunes as well. The most that will happen is that the "checking iTunes library" box will pop up, load for a little while, and disappear. My cursor will also make it appear that the computer is loading it for a few seconds, and then give up. When checking to see if the program was even running, my task manager doesn't list iTunes. I tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling iTunes to the current version (I may have been operating a version behind before), but 10.1 is behaving the same way. I am a music student that relies heavily on listening to iTunes for homework, so any advice ASAP would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you!

Quicktime is loading properly and plays videos just fine. Hmm... curiouser and curiouser!
That is odd ... with the most common causes of an error message free iTunes launch failure, iTunes.exe persists in task manager. The one I check for when iTunes.exe isn't persisting will usually prevent the QuickTime Player from launching.
Does the problem seem to be systemwide or user-specific, with those terms in the sense used in the following troubleshooting article?

  • Exception processing message 0xc0000013 after updating itunes and Quicktime

After updating itunes and Quicktime, every time I remove a CD from my DVD drives I get an error saying no disk exception processing message 0xc0000013 Parameters 0x759f023c 0x87f51934 0x759f023c 0x759f023c.
I tried doing a restore to a time before that update and that didn't seem to help. It just gave me different parameters.
I'm using Windows Vista and this is driving me nuts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also have the same problems as you guys after installing Corel Painshop Pro X12. I went into the task list and stop the CorelIOMonitor process and then the problem went away. I found out that you can disable this from starting up using System Configuration tool via Start -> Run -> msconfig
. It's an interm solution untell they fix it. Maybe someone needs to notify Corel or Apple to fix this problem.

  • ITunes and QuickTime stopped working after an upgrade...

I have been pulling my hair out trying to get my iTunes working again. Here is what I have done already in order:
    1. Does not work regardless of user (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302856)
    2. Tried running with changes to MSCONFIG
    - Ran according to Apple Support Web Site (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538)
    - Ran in Diagnostics mode
    - Ran in /SAFEMODE
    3. Uninstalled and removed from any reference from registry
    4. Removed iTunes configuration files (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302386)
    5. Installed WinInspector Spy and launched iTunes to see what happened. Unfortunately I have not figured out how to copy and paste the log, but it shows the iTunes window class being created, a bunch of other stuff, then the OfficeWatson class, stuff and then the infamous "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. After hitting the Send Error Report, I see the OfficeWatson window being destroyed and that is it. This leads me to believe that the problem is somehow with the outlook integration between iTunes and Windows? So I looked in my Add/Remove programs and sure enough Office and Outlook were upgraded the day after the last time i was able to use iTunes. So I tried uninstalling Office, iTunes and QuickTime. QuickTime refused to uninstalled claiming a fatal error. I then forcably removed it as described in the apple knowledge paper. Another interesting point, when I ran QuickTime, nothing happens, not even a crash message. When I run QuickTime Preferences from the system tray, the dialog shows, but when I click on the FileTypes tab, I get a RUNDLL error: "An exception occurred while trying to run "Shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\QuickTime.cpl".
I also tried running StraceNtX.exe against it, but it doesnt create the right environment for iTunes (it thinks it is Windows 2000 and does have the right service pack).
PLEASE can someone help? This is the second time this has happened to me. The first time was on another computer that came with a "real" restore point (not the stupid one Windows has that does not work) and I solved it by simply restoring back in time. This time I do not have that option!
ARGH - I really do not want to have to use Media Player.

It sounds as though things have got pretty screwed up. If you couldn't clean things up properly with the MS installer cleaup, there is thread on cleaning up uninstall information in the registry.

I am not sure that I have anything more to offer as you appear to have done most things. Have you tried turning off all security software while doing the install, and doing the MSconfig thing with just Quicktime. Presumably your system is free of malware?
As a matter of interst, what happens if you have the task manager running when you start Quicktime, does it start and then stop, or keep running or not start at all?
A few people seem to have these intractable problems and the forum expert on this has been away since christmas, but you could try searching the forum for "b noir" posts about install/launch problems.

  • ITunes and Quicktime Installation Troubles

I had to completely remove iTunes and Quicktime from my computer, and now I am having difficulties reinstalling it. When I download iTunes+Quicktime it begins to install, and then stops, saying there was an error installing Quicktime. The error is that an installation is already in progress. I have tried everything, including Windows Clean Up Utility, CCleaner, and I have gone through Control Panel, My Computer, and Task Manager. I really need some help on completely removing Quicktime from my computer. Thanks soooo much!

Could you give the exact error message with error number if there is one.
Does this problem only apply to installing QUicktime? If so using the installer clean up utility to remove any entries for QUicktime usually fixes this. The only catch is that Quicktime does not always show up properly in the clean up utility. Look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like QUicktime version numbers i.e 7.x
I would try installing Quicktime separately. Download the version of Quicktime that does not include iTunes. It is not the default option.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
If there is a general installer problem, this thread contains a post suggesting the deletion of the following registry key:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress
    http://www.vistax64.com/vista-general/40960-vista-business-msi-error-1500-a.html
This key should not normally be present if there are no installations in progress and it applies to Installer error 1500

  • ITunes and Quicktime are dead

I've been using iTunes and QuickTime for over a year with no significant trouble.
Now, when I run iTunes, it won't launch. After a few seconds, I get a Windows error report popup that says:
"iTunes ahs encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the invonvenience." And it asks me to send an error report to tell Microsoft about this problem.
I tried installing Itunes 7.0.1 but that didn't help. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but still no joy.
Also, now when I try to run QuickTime, nothing happens. If I monitor processes in Windows Task Manager, I can see it start, but then it goes away again.
I tried the stereo headphones fix in the FAQ at the top of this forum, but that didn't help. I tried deleting the iTunes folder under Docs & Settings\Owner\Application Data\Apple Computer but that didn't help either.
Any other suggestions? Short of formatting my hard drive and starting again? I am at my wits' end.
BTW, the problems started after I used the Gateway Recovery disk to do a non-destructive recovery, to fix an (apparently) unrelated problem (which fix, unforunately, didn't work).
Auuugh! I am addicted to podcasts and use my computer for hours every day. I am tearing my hair out!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Also, now when I try to run QuickTime, nothing happens. If I monitor processes in Windows Task Manager, I can see it start, but then it goes away again.
hmmmm. i've seen a couple of those sets of symptoms now (on 7.0.0.70). there's a couple of things that are probably worth trying with it, and some experiments that are worth pursuing.
the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.1.3 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1.3 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1.3 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • ITunes and Quicktime 7 install errors

    Hi folks
Had no probs with these programs at all until the v7 release. Been running Quicktime Pro and iTunes for a wee while on version 6. When I run the iTunes v7.07 installer I get "The installation of Quicktime did not complete successfully. iTunes needs Quicktime." and it quits back to desktop after that (windows xp pro that is).
I've read some other posts about similar problems, so tried uninstalling itunes and quicktime completely, however, iTunes has gone, but Quicktime won't uninstall now. It's gone from Add/Remove programs, it's "Uninstall Quicktime" icon starts up an installshiel wizrd box then just disappears with no effect. I tried reinstalling the new Quicktime-only installer over the top, same problem...errors during install.
So now, I can't install/reinstall an updated Quicktime, can't uninstall the Quicktime Pro I've already got, I have no iTunes on my machine any more and no way of getting it back on, cos the installer won't work without this Quicktime problem being sorted!! ARRRGGHHH!!!
Any ideas folks? I've tried safe mode...Quicktime isn't listed under Add/Remove programs in there either. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to rebuild my laptop again...I spose it could do with a spring clean, though ideally I'd like to not have to!
    Cheers muchly in advance

    Hey l33bert,
This article will help troubleshoot this issue: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
Make sure your logged in as an administrator and security software is disabled. Start at "Empty your Temp directory and restart" and continue down th earticle. It does link to the installer cleanup utility, that blackhillsjen mentioned, and shows steps on howto use it.
some people also prefer to install from Quicktime stand-alone installer: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html

  • ITunes and Quicktime will not launch

I cannot get my iTunes or Quicktime to launch. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, upgraded, and tried several fixes that I found on this discussion board. No Luck! I'm using XP Pro SP3. When I first installed iTunes, it worked, but then quit working about 4 weeks later. I'm using the latest versions of both iTunes and Quicktime.

The error message you are getting suggests that you do have one of the problem codec packs installed on your system or you have had in the past.
Quicktime does not install Quicktime.cpl in the system32 directory.
It is possible that one of them was installed without you knowing with other software, I think Storm may get installed with other things although I can't name anything.
You must look for the things on my list and uninstall them if you find them. Check in Add/Remove programs to see if there is an entry there.
When you have uninstalled the problem items go on to the next stage. If you can't find anything you had better go on as well.
Download the stand alone Quicktime (the one without iTunes):
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method in this article (just Quicktime):
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.
