Win 8.1 Upgrade Disabled Twist Touch Screen Fixed

After a Win 8.1 Upgrade, I had no touch screen function. Calls to Lenovo led nowhere Same with searching Microsoft boards. I fixed the issue on Sunday 6/1- No help from Lenovo or Microsoft.
For me it was finding two "Unknown Devices" in the HID section of Device Manager which did not have drivers installed. After researching and determining that Win 8.1 will not allow unsigned device drivers, and also seeing the "Update Driver" option failing because the drivers on the laptop that fit the problem were getting an 'INF unsigned driver error', I went through the steps to allow unsigned drivers... Charm Bar>Settings>Change PC Settings>Update and Recovery>Recovery>Advanced Startup>-Restart> Troubleshoot>Advanced Options>Startup Settings> Restart and then Chose #7>Allow Unsigned Device Drivers and Restart again... then Updating the two Unknown Devices with the drivers already on the Twist.... and voila- the errors disappeared and the touchscreen returned to full function.
I don't know if this happened to many people, but Lenovo had no idea what to do. They wanted me to ship them the laptop and allow them to roll it back to Windows 8. Posting here to distribute it to a larger audience. Maybe someone at Microsoft should call Lenovo too or Lenovo should call Microsoft. The Twist is a great laptop with Win 8.1 when everything works the way it should.

Hi Cvj17,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per your query we understood that you are looking driver for Unknown device. In some system after installing all the drivers also the unknown device will show in Lenovo Solution Center, hence confirm it once in device manage is there any Unknown adapter is showing in that.
Please install Lenovo System Update application and run it to verify the driver automatically.
Unknown Device issue.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

  • March Win Update Disabled All Touch Screens, Wifi and BT? WHY?

    I give up - everything I have done, this is a brand new Dell Inspiron - both images are shown below, one from Registry Editor - showing proof of the Mainboard's date and the BIOS. I run on a Touch Screen, Win 8.1 Pro - I had exhausted everything in the world;
even Microsoft Tech Support in Tier 3 can't figure this out - it was working fine all along, but come late February; MSFT comes with these new Windows Updates and making it worse March wipes out literally the BT (Bluetooth), turning off completely the WiFi
(although all are enabled in Services) and considering this is one expensive piece of equipment here ... C'mon now... All my Firmware and everything else is up to date and up to par and was working peachy until Intel came up with their update of the Intel
i5 Core (see below in Device Manager - you will see where Microsoft Windows and which KB is it - I am clueless now, because the info is vague and I've had to wipe out the entire HDD and reinstall it via the OEM DVD Win 8.1 and redo the whole reinstallation
all over again) and you are installing via Windows Update i7 Series and this is not an i7 Processor - there are no i7 series for i7 Core Processors - I am sorry... Intel does not have this. Then with Bluetooth; I give up - I have it all (hidden) uninstalled
and wiped out literally; superimposed for security reasons because for the life of me I have no earthly idea where to even start anymore, neither does Microsoft Tier 3 either.... they are clueless too!  Now you've disabled my Touch Screen with your March
Updates where this now is completely a DESKTOP and it is not designed for mouse usage; it is designed for swipe or touch and go ... self sufficient are the images posted below for you to see and figure this one out yourselves.... I've done everything possible!
    Yes, everything is there and functional once everything is reinstalled but once that Windows Update begins - that is where the problem begins, I have the Windows Update on MANUAL Mode so I can view the KB's but sadly, many of the KB's are very vague in information;
this is not helping me here - before I know it; I am right back to square one! Since this will only limit me to two images - so the best I can provide you is that of BIOS and Device Manager to show what mess the Windows Update is giving everyone who has touch
screens (RT - Ultrabook to Surfaces) a massive headache;  you cannot turn it on, if it were possible - I could show you also how these are enabled in Services.
PS: NOTE - the Service Tag has been Blacked Out to prevent theft - there are no information there that people can steal from in BIOS and the other from Device Manager (followed by the BIOS first) ... go and figure these out yourselves... I am throwing in
the towel; it has nothing to do with the Manufacturer - everything was working just fine; but I can't disable Windows Update because I need it! See the point - it is futile and vain!

May I know your detail Dell Inspiron model?
What I suspected is, Dell launched the newest update for your Chipset, Bluetooth, WIFI and Touchscreen driver or software. Since you perform Windows update, OS will obtain latest driver via Windows update. Maybe incompatible driver which comes from
Windows update didn't match with your PC OEM hardware, that the reason why processor information, Bluetooth, WIFI and touchscreen don't functioning normally even worse will they turn grayed out or disable.
What I suggest here you check at Dell site, maybe there is update driver for this specific Dell model. Or let me try to find it for you. You can also download manually from there and applied the update
And maybe incomplete or corrupted Windows update process and downloaded files will caused issues like this

  • Is there a way to play a video and disable the touch screen

I want to be able to play a video and disable the touch screen so that it will play uninterrupted (even if the screen is accidentally touched). Isn't there a "hold" button?

How do i get the ipod nano touch screen fixed?

    Hello Kimberly j,
You can either set up a service request with Apple through this or you can bring it into your local Apple Store/AASP and have them set one up for you.

Another option would be a 3rd party repair company who would be able to fix the iPod at a much lower cost.

  • Deleted touch screen applet when upgrading, where can I download it to disable broken touch screen

My touch screen clicks itself into the middle of the screen, uset to go into a HP window within the control panel to disable it but since upgrading to windows 7 (thinking it might solve it) the window has gone and now the beeps are driving me insane.
My computer is the IQ700 and I've upgraded from Vista home 32 bit to 7 home 32 bit.

What gen iPod (3,4?) did you buy?

  • How do you disable the touch screen (Broken and handicapping normal mouse use)

Hi, I have an ideacentre B540. My two year old daughter did something to my computer when I wasn't in the room and ended up busting it right on the top left corner. There is only one hairline crack that was visable in the upper left corner. I've found a replacement LCD screen, but cannot afford it right now, so... Meanwhile, I would like to just disable the touch portion of my computer, because often, it will think it is active (probably damaged the sensor in the fall :-P and take the power away from my  mouse, open random windows, and generally... Make an otherwise normal PC unuseable. Is there ANYTHING that I can do to disable the touch pad? Even a list of the touch specific processes that I can immediately delete upon startup would be great, because it seems to give me a few minutes before it decides to start acting up. Thanks!

    hi SharaLynn,
Sorry to hear about your trouble.
Can you try these methods to disable the touchscreen:
    For Windows 7:
    1. Click on Start > type Pen and Touch and run the app
    2. On the Pen and Touch window,  click on the Touch Tab and uncheck Use your finger as an input Device and hit apply the settings (Source: Disable touchscreen on Windows 7)
    For Windows 8:
    Check this website for screenies
    Let me know your findings.
    Cheers

  • How to temporarily disable the touch screen in Windows 8? Touchsmart 320-1122la

Meanwhile, read this document to see if it offers any solutions:HP TouchSmart PCs - Troubleshooting Touch Screen Issues in Windows 8

Sorry that document didn't help. As for how to find your product and numbers, on my HP TouchSmart 320-1030, for example, I found both numbers on a sticker on the back of my PC, near the bottom, just under the inputs (USB, power, etc.). I also found that information in roughly the same area on my friend's HP ENVY TouchSmart 23-d034. A really easy way to find out is to press the CTRL, ALT, and S keys. The HP Support Information box will open, showing your model number, product number, serial number, and other important information. I used Snipping Tool to take a screen capture of this information on my screen, and then I printed it and emailed it to myself. It's good information to have on hand if you're getting support, making warranty inquiries, or for your insurance files, if your PC were, say, damaged in a fire, tornado, etc. Once you obtain that information, go to the Drivers and Download page. Click the Support and Drivers button, and enter your product number.  Check for new drivers for your product. You can also get support and warranty information at the above link.

  • HT1222 Just upgraded now my touch screen won't work?

  • Multi touch screen fix

Multi touch screen needs calibrated on iPhone 4S.  Anyone know how this is done.

No such thing as calibrating your display.  If restoring your phone as a NEW device (not using backup at all) doesn't resolve your issue, you'll need to take your phone in to Apple for evaluation.

  • Twist touch screen is jumpy

I just got a demo Twist (3347-6LU) to test out and after installing the software for the Lenovo USB 3.0 dock, when I touch the screen to scroll through a webpage or move a window, it gets really jumpy/jittery if I hold my finger still.
No new updates available through System Update so I'm not sure where to go with this. I've tried two different driver installs for the dock that I found through some digging on the Lenovo support site.

I am having this problem too.  There are numerous other threads about the touchscreen stopping working, but even with hours of reading the threads I've yet to see a definitive answer or fix.
I thought it started after installing Office 2010, as others had reported that happening, so I refreshed the machine, which didn't work, then completely reinstalled windows from a recovery drive I made when I first got the machine (4 days ago).  It wasn't any better until after updating about 8 drivers through the Lenovo Solution Center.  I then plugged in the USB hub that has the external CD/DVD player to load Ofice 2007 to see if that would work.  Immediate failure of the touchscreen.  Unplugged the hub, touchscreen returned but erractic.  Now I can plug individual components into the usb port (at least the one on the right), but the screen control is still eratic.
And the screen occasionally dims a little (plugged in) for 5-10 seconds then goes back to normal brightness, but that's another frustrating thing, and actually another Win8 touchscreen machine (Samsung ATIV 700T) does that sometimes, too - Windows issue?
So, did you get any good response to your question?
    Thanks

  • White spots on the Twist touch screen issue (pressure point)

    Hi,
I purchased the Lenovo Twist two month ago.
Recently, I found three white spots (known as pressure points) on my screen,
so I sent it to the depot for warrant service.
The service center said the white spots were caused by a physical damage such as a strong pressure,
so it could not be covered by warranty and I should pay about $700 to fix it.
I am very careful with my laptop and do not believe the white spots were due to strong pressure.
If they were caused by a regular touching on the screen (since Twist is touch-available screen), it must be manufacturing defect.
Any suggestions for this issue? Or should I just give up and learn to live with them?

If anybody's reading this in the future, DP's advice definitely worked. I hadn't removed the video card originally. When I did, I noticed that it had so much dust in it that the fan wasn't able to operate. Embarrassing. Anyways, I cleaned it out and now the computer's running smoothly. A lot quieter too!

  • Re: Lenovo Twist Touch Screen Issue

Mine starts working after 3, 5, 10 or 15 minutes. I cannot pinpoint exactly what makes it start or stop, it is very random. I hope Lenovo will fix it soon, it is a great machine otherwise.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    All,
We have a firmware update for the touchscreen that is in process of being released through our support site.  Since there could be multiple causes as discussed in the other thread, I can't promise this will be the solution for you.
However, I've attaching the file to this forum post.  Download it and rename it from .abc to .exe.  I renamed it .abc to get around some limitations with attaching executables.  To install, be sure AC is attached and double click the file after you have renamed it.
Let me know if this helps.
