Window size not retained. Crusor no longer in web address field for new tab.

Used to be when I started Firefox, the window came up as the same size it was when I last closed the program. No longer the case. How to fix?
Also, upon opening a new tab, the cursor no longer appears in the URL field by default. I have to click in the field for the cursor to appear. Annoying. How to fix? I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it. This seemed the solve the problem, but only briefly.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

How can I create an icon for "New Tab" (not "new window") on the toolbar?

I want to have an icon for New Tab on the toolbar. I cannot find such icon on the Customize option.

BTW I tried to check options-->tabs-->open new windows in a new tab instead, but this does not help and when clicking the "new Window" icon on the toolbar, indeed a new window - and not a new tab - opens.

You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab (+) button form the tab bar on another toolbar. It will become a regular New Tab toolbar button.
Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"

First, you are using a version of Firefox that is very old and outdated. Please update to at least Firefox 3.6.27, or more preferably, update to Firefox 10.0.2. There are lots of bug fixes, security improvements, and much improved performance in Firefox 10.
After you do that, try seeing if you are still having a problem. If you are, is this that when you try to select "Open in a new tab" it opens in a new window instead? Or something else?

My cluster suddenly went disappear. and tried to restart the cluster service. When trying to restart service this above mention error comes up.
even i tried to remove the cluster through power-shell still couldn't happen because of cluster service not running.

Could you confirm which account when you start the cluster service? The Cluster service is a service that requires a domain user account.
The server cluster Setup program changes the local security policy for this account by granting a set of user rights to the account. Additionally, this account is made a member
of the local Administrators group.
If one or more of these user rights are missing, the Cluster service may stop immediately during startup or later, depending on when the Cluster service requires the particular
user right.

I want the cursor to be in the address bar when creating a new window; it works for new tabs and in a new private window, but not in safe mode.

I have tried following the advice offered in the few different threads I have found on this but nothing fixes it. I want the cursor to be in the address bar when I open a new window and/or when firefox opens without restoring a previous session. I fixed the issue for new tabs via about:config but this doesn't work for new windows. I tried safe mode and the problem persists. In new private windows the cursor is in the address bar.

The search box in about:home steals the cursor. Changing your home page to something else will cause the cursor to start in the address bar for new windows.

I've been working on this all day!!! I've tried everything I know of and can't get it to load either. Sounds like lots of people are having problems. Here is what I have so far...I have uninstalled EVERYTHING on my pc from apple and reinstalled itunes to no avail. I have tried all sorts of things I've read as fixes online. NOTHING has worked. Yesterday I installed itunes for the first time on my new netbook which is a 64 bit (windows 7) system and it works just fine. i have three other laptops (all window 7) in my household that are all 64 bit operating systems and ALL have updated to 10.5 and THEY ALL work fine. this is FOUR 64 bit systems ALL updated w/10.5 that work and ONE that is a 32 bit that will not. Can't get any help from apple. their suppot *****! I want to get someone on the **** phone or a live chat but cant. *** APPLE????? please let mw know if you find SOMETHING i can try next. I'm out of ideas and patience!

Go to '''View | Toolbars | Customize''' and click the "Restore Default Set" button or drag the "New Tab" icon in the Customize window (if it's available) next to your existing tabs. It's also possible you accidentally dragged the "+" icon to another toolbar and just need to drag it back where it belongs. If none of this works, go to Tools | Options | Tabs and make sure "Always show the tab bar" is enabled.
If you're really stuck, double-clicking your mouse just to the right of your last visible tab [or File | New Tab (Ctrl+T)] should also open a new tab.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
If extensions aren't causing the problem, see below.

Finder Window Does not retain custom size and/or view

I recently installed OS X Snow Leopard and ever sine I have had problems with the behaviour of my finder windows in that they simply will not retain my custom view settings.
+For example, I set the default view to coverflow with a 50/50 ratio of coverflow (on top) and file lists (on the bottom). But as soon as I click to another location, close and then reopen any finder window, at any time, the result is always the same - the window opens in coverflow with the coverflow graphics taking up around 90% of the window space and the file lists underneath squeezed down to minimum size. Even if I set all windows to open in icon view or list view, the same thing happens.+
*I have tried all of the following:*
Opening a finder window, resizing, and then closing it straight away
Deleting the both the finder and the side bar plist files, emptying the trash and then restarting finder
Restarting finder on its own
*Is anyone having the same problem and if so have they found a solution?*

This problem affects a few of my Finder windows, including the Application folder window. I recently did a clean reinstall of SL (which stands for Stupid Lunatic, because that's what I was for upgrading), and the problem occurred a few days later. This cannot be due to using Migration Assistant (and moving "bad" folders), because the installation process creates the Applications folder and populates it with Apples apps. Migration Assistant just adds your apps to the existing folder.
This problem, or minor variations of it, has occurred with all seven major versions of OS X. Finder window settings were rock solid way back in OS 7 days and remained so through OS 9. I know that Steve Jobs hates the Desktop/Finder approach, but if it's going to be in OS X, then it should work correctly. I actually long for the days when rebuilding the desktop fixed most of the icon and window problems.
We need a utility that can erase the custom settings for our folders and let us start with a clean settings file.

Quicktime Plugin crashes and Window size not correct when running a course from an LMS (Coursemill)

I am trying to run a course from an LMS (Coursemill) and a couple issues are occurring.
First, the quicktime plugin crashes, therefore the mp3 sound of the course does not play. When I reload the page, I get an "Unable to find API adapter" error message and the page won't load.
Also, the predetermined window size does not work properly and I end up with vertical and horizontal scroll bars which I do not want.
These issues are of high importance and need a solution ASAP. Please contact me.

Finder window size not saved when cmd+click

Hi. I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem. I look through the forum but didn't find it posted.
I re-sized my finder to a certain size and have done the same to some other folder such that they are basically all different sizes. However, at some point, if I cmd+double click a folder to open it, the window size is reverted back to that of my home folder. I know this didn't happen in 10.5 and may have to do with the .DS_Store file. Anyways, it's an annoyance and any help would be appreciated. THanks.

Have you tried to repair your hard drive using Disk Utility? You will need to boot from your install disc, navigate to Disk Utility, and then select your hard drive and then "Repair Disk". Repair it until there is nothing left to repair.
Also, be sure you have adequate free space on your hard drive. 15% at least.
How old is your Mac, and does it still have the original hard drive? Hard drives typically have an average useful life of 3-5 years, and if yours is getting into this range (or even if it isn't), the hard drive could be beginning to fail.

Windows wil not load..it goes to the restart screen for safe/normal mode/tries to start but returns to the same screen for safe /normal mode...Help

What has happened...when starting in bootcamp, windows does not load. It goes to the restart in safe/safe with networking/normal mode. When I choose any of these windows screen comes up and the lttle blue balls start to roll. then screen goes blank as if windows is to start but goes back to the resrat in safe/etcmode. Help...

Did you burn the DVD from ISO?
Did Windows get fully installed & updated? added Apple Boot Camp after?
If you still don't have 10.6, you won't have Boot Camp 3.x drivers (and later) for Windows 7.
How large a partition did you create?
How long if at all was it working normally?
The last update, install or change made was.....?

When I open a second browser window (Firefox 5) it does not open to my homepage. It opens with a "New Tab".

The first time I open a browser window in Firefox 5 a tab opens to my homepage which is what I want. Any browser windows that I open after that open with a "New Tab" and a blank screen. I need to press the "open a new tab" button to get to my homepage.

If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />
