Windows 7 Aero on a MBP?

I got Win7 running through a VM that supports Aero on my MBP. How do I know "aero" is running or how do you activate it?
sorry if it is a silly question, but thanks for any input.

If you have a few windows open... and hit "Alt + Tab" and see this... you are running in Aero:

If you see this (just little square images of the pages)... Aero is not working:

  • Windows Aero Scheme in Boot Camp

How do i get Windows Aero scheme( Vista Ultimate) to function on my Macbook Pro. Is this at all possible in Bootcamp?

Hi Ronald and welcome (back) to Discussions,
normally Aero is enabled by going to Personalize (right click on desktop or control panel) > Window Colour and Appearance and selecting aero from the list.
Aero should work on your MBP, but it is neccessary that you have used the OSX Leopard DVD (the one that came with your MBP) while in Vista to install the needed BootCamp Drivers.
And if you have done that already, you should use the BC Update for Vista provided by Apple to update the drivers. http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/bootcampupdate21 forwindowsvista32.html
    Hope it helps

  • Windows Aero no longer works,*FIXED*

**************NOW FIXED, SEE POST 11 FOR INFO******************
    Hi all,
Ok, well I noticed today that my aero system was no longer working (am left with the default solid pastel blues...  yuk) I am not sure when it happened as it only dawned on me when I was calibrating my screen but it cant have been more than a few days.
    My system:
    Q6600 Quad Core @ 3.2Ghz
    8 gig DDR3
    ATi 5870 1Gb DDR5
    Win 7 *Ultimate
    Things Ive tried:
Windows Aero Glass visual effects are not working or displayed
rolling back to an earlier video driver (using driver cleaner to ensure removal and fresh install)
After that I have no clue...  The Aero themes are available to me, the background changes but the glass effects and color themes of the start bars and windows still stays the same, i.e. default solide pastel blues.
    Thanks for your time.

My graphics card manufacturer is Intel.
I was looking around for anything related to this issue this i found on Wikipedia.
    Requirements
Microsoft has listed the following requirements for what they call a Vista Premium Ready PC. A PC that meets or exceeds these requirements will be able to use the new Aero technologies.
Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista Enterprise. Aero is not available by default in Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows 7 Starter and
Windows 7 Home Basic, although a workaround has been discovered allowing Vista Basic users to have transparency and blur effects, provided that their system meets the recommended hardware requirements.

It got me wondering if the problem might lie with the WDDM driver or with the Aero files themselves i.e are they corrupted or just missing or for some reason Windows cannot verify that I have the correct version of Windows to run Aero ?

First, you can install Microsoft's Security Essentials in the Win 7 VM and keep it up-to-date. Second, you can turn off Sharing in Fusion's System Settings to keep the VM environment separate from your Mac. Third, you can look into Sophos Anti-Virus http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-mac-home-ed ition/download.aspx for the Mac host.

  • Unable to install windows 8 on 2013 MBP

So I got windows 8.1 DVD for running windows on my MBP 2013 with OS mavericks 9.1. But I'm stuck with this screen. I don't even know why I can't click "Install or remove winodws 7 or later version" it's greyed out wheather windows 8.1 DVD is coonected or even with iso version of it. I know it needs to be checked to get windows 8.
I called apple customer service but they didnt help me saying windows 8.1 is not supported.. I see many people running windows 8.1 on Mac without problem.
Please teach me how to slove this problem and install windows 8.1 on MBP 2013
I have two bootcamps in disk utility, i bet it's because I tried to bootcamp a few times and I cant seem to remove it. Should I delete them to get windows 8.1? I never did partition setting or something like that. I can't even reach that setting since that "insatll or remove windows 7 or later version" is greyed out in bootcamp assiatant. Please help!

with (DVD, no USB), it goes like this when I click continue. After putting the USB stick to Macbook Pro, its the same as I showed you picture last time, that state. Even without DVD.

  • A solution that works for Windows 8.1 on MBP Late 2013

Here is how I could successfully install Windows 8.1 on Mbp Late 2013 running Maverick:
Follow precisely these steps and you will be done in 30 minutes:
1/ Using BootCamp Assistant, create a USB stick and select all three options including Bootcamp updates, etc.
2/ Set your partition size when asked.
3/ IMPORTANT: When reboot, Hold the Option key and Boot again on Maverick (do not boot on the USB stick)
4/ When back on Maverick, run Disk Utility, select Macintoch partition and choose Partition tab.
5/ Select the BOOTCAMP newly created partition (the one at the bottom) and press minus to remove it.
6/ Apply for changes. At this point, BOOTCAMP partition should be gone.
7/ Press + to add a new partition that will likely be called Machintoch HD2 or so.
    8/ Rename it to BOOTCAMP
9/ IMPORTANT: Change the partition type to ExFAT.
    10/ Apply again for changes.
11/ Reboot your Mac and Press Option again. Select WINDOWS (Orange USB device)
12/ Windows installation process should start and bring you to the partition selection.
13/ Select the BOOTCAMP partition (the one at the bottom) and FORMAT it.
14/ Press Next and get going through Windows 8.1 installation.
15/ IMPORTANT: Each time a reboot occurs, press Option key and select WINDOWS Drive (NOT the ORANGE USB stick)
16/ Finally, Windows 8.1 will get installed and will ask for BOOTCAMP drivers to get installed. Just follow the instructions.
    17/ You are done.
    P.

Ohhhh, Silly, silly moi. Ok, got it. Now I see "Partition". Thanks! Will try again. Downloading Windows support software as I type.
    Thank you.
One more thing - while attempting installation the first time (before I stumbled on this thread) - I looked up YouTube re how to create a USB bootable ISO (which included editing the info.plist file in Boot Camp Assistant).
When I tried installing 8.1 from the ISO, the installation aborted saying "cannot find resources" (something like that) - this occured after the first stage, i.e. while "preparing files to install Windows".
Assuming I get this again (I hope not!), is it because of a corrupted ISO?

  • How do I create a bootable USB Drive to install Windows 7 on a MBP Retina

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a MBP Retina.(I'm running Mountain Lion)  I followed BootCamp's directions to create a bootable copy of Windows on a USB Flash Drive.  When I go to install, Boot Camp creates the partition, but I get a Windows black screen that says that "there is no bootable drive - hit any key".  I have to force shut down, because hitting any key does nothing.  I tried the Bootcamp directions at least 3 times, but have been unable to get the USB Drive to start up the Install program.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Joe

Disconnect all external drives. Only have the the USB flash drive connected.

  • Windows Vista Business with MBP - wireless not working

I have successfully installed Windows Vista on my MBP using Boot Camp Assistant.
Problem is that the wireless ethernet does not work. I have heard of some file called "Install Macintosh Drivers for Windows XP.exe". If this is what I'm suppose to use where do I find this file?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
first thing to do after the Vista Installation is to insert the OSX DVD that came with your MBP while in Windows.
Apple provides the BootCamp Drivers on that DVD.
The Driver Setup should start automatically once the DVD is inserted.
Let the Driver install and do the neccessary reboot into Vista once it has finished.
    Hope it helps

  • Installing Windows 7 on a MBP in clamp mode

Hi - my MBP screen is broken so I use an external monitor all the time - as in Clamp mode.
I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a MBP 10.8.2 Intel 2.85 Duo.
Bootcamp partitions the drive, then the computer restarts - but nothing happens - no output to the monitor.
Is there any way to install W7 on a MBP using an external monitor only?
    Thanks for any help.

With Windows 7 Home Premium, whenever I start iTunes, I get a message that colors have been reverted to Windows Basic because iTunes won't support my Windows Aero configuration.  Is there a fix for the incompatibility?  I don't mind the color changes, but I'm having an external speaker problem that could be related to the incompatibility (at random times--usually several hours after start-up, my external speakers--connected via my Samsung Central Station's wireless docking station and computer-installed dongle--shut off and won't play until I restart.  I've investigated other options, but iTunes may be the problem.)  Thanks.

Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

  • Why did thunderbird 31.3.0 break windows aero?

I recently upgraded to Thunderbird 31.3.0. This version seems to turn off Windows Aero and won't let me change it back nor change the taskbar/window colors anymore. What happened?

    <blockquote>
I do not know what happened, but Thunderbird does not know anything of the windows themes or colours, so I seriously doubt Thunderbird has anything to do with your issue.

Ya know, I had a whole post lined up with pictures and everything to show you my issue but my internet pooped out and deleted so I'm just going to downgrade the program.

  • Windows Aero

My Name is Anees Ahmad, i am a B.S. Chemical Engineering Final Year 8th semester student, in COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Lahore, Pakistan. Teacher had assigned our group an assignment for the evaluation of windows 8.1 pro updated version,
i get shocked when public had given negative response about this product, the reason was the REMOVAL OF WINDOWS AERO feature in this product, In pakistan i visited many areas and people had given same response, So i suggest that MICROSOFT should
have to Re-introduce it, because microsoft has finalized windows build but, there is no problem Microsoft can introduce it as an optional feature by UPDATES like Windows 8.1 Update 2. I think market demand of this product will shoot up and more
people will like this product. I need Answer from Microsoft.

That's good feedback but it won't ever be seen by posting it in these forums. The correct location for product specific feedback is connect.microsoft.com. Good luck!

  • Windows Aero = Evil!

    Greetings all!
I have been trying to figure out why some of my renders (and some source material) appeared jittery during playback, particularly on a dual-monitor setup. For a  L O N G  time.
The short answer: They were fine. Windows Aero was the culprit. (Google "Second monitor video jitter" or similar) and poof! There it is...
Just select a non-Aero theme and voila! Goodness...
    Cheers!

    My apologies, Steve....in my excitement.....sigh..
    OK.. Windows 7 64 bit Laptop, (Clevo P150EM)  i7 3740Q, Nvidia 675M 2Gb, 16G RAM, All SSD drives (2)...Windows Graphics Experience = 6.9...
It made a heck of a difference. You are correct about the render performance..But all this time I thought I was having render issues....ugh!
I even have PE11 set to run on the Nvidia Graphics card....not sure if that even matters because PE11 rarely even uses the GPU
I do not have the latest Nvidia drivers since Clevo hasn't posted them yet....
I have the same issue on my desktop...will check that when I get back home... I know I have Aero enabled on it...
I've encountered this "phenomenon" regards of application, PE11, CS5, Sony Vegas, and PowerDirector 10(?).
I hope this helps anyone with similar issues....
Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it..
