Windows 7 and World of Warcraft

Hi, I built a new computer in June 2010. The specs are ASUS M4A785-M AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard, LOGISYS Computer PS575XBK 575W ATX12V SLI Ready Power Supply, AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 2.9GHz Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Desktop
Processor ADX245OCGQBOX, PQI TURBO 4GB (2 x 2GB) memory. I purchased Windows 7 home premium as well. My first graphics card was a Sparkle Geforce 9400 GT, this card when playing warcraft would make my whole system crash to a blue screen, I thought it might
be the card so I recently purchased a Sapphire Radeon HD 5570 1GB DDR3 PCIe 2.1, when I insalled this new car warcraft now crashed to a black screen then comes back and continously does this. I thought it was maybe an issue with the Windows 7 home, so I tried
a copy of Windows 7 Professional and it did the same thing. I reformatted again and am now running Windows XP and the video card runs great, however I'm missing the Directx 11 video quality. Does anyone have any suggesions as to what may be causing the graphic
card issues with Windows 7 and any fixes? Thanks!

  • Airport Express and World of Warcraft

    Hello!
I'm currently having issues running World of Warcraft off of my Airport Express. When I try to log into WoW, I get a connecting... message until the client times out, and I get the unable to connect message. However, if I then leave the WoW app, I come back into Windows, and my wireless internet connection is completely shut down. I have to go back in and reconnect to the airport to gain a signal again.
Has anyone heard of this issue?

Hi, I don't really have a solution to your problem, but I can confirm that I'm not having the same problem. I can stream 128 Kbps tunes to Airport Express and my latency only goes from ~54ms to ~62ms, so not much effect. Are you trying to stream very high bitrate songs (like uncompressed)? I thought I read somewhere that the Airtunes function downsampled everything to 128 for transmission, but I'm not sure about that. Also, I'm running my network in 802.11b-only mode (not g), and I have Robustness turned off. When Robustness was on, the connection seemed flakey (not with WoW, just in general), so I turned it off and it's been fine.

  • Vist Basic & XFI, random loss of sound and World of Warcraft Hardware enabling iss

Hello.. First off want to say that prior to reinstalling Vista last week, I had no had any issues with my XFI and Vista.. Since the re-install, while running World of Warcraft and Ventrillo, I get random loss of sound. And by that, specifically I mean, the sound shuts off, and I get a constant loud hiss noise that does not stop until a reboot is performed. If I just run WoW and no Ventrillo, I dont get the random problem and the sound runs fine. It is however a highly annoying issue that requires too many reboots in evening. Getting to the point of just trying the onboard sound, which I'd certainly rather not do.
Additionally there is an option in WoW that allows for Hardware enabling, which is supposed to improve performance. When I check this box and restart the game, the box is still not checked. Not sure if this is a CL problem, but something is wrong for sure! I'm using the latest drivers that are on creativelabs.com for my Vista 32 bit system. And again, didnt have these issues prior to the fresh re-install of Vista. Before that I had stepped up the drivers all the way from Vista. Thanks for any feedback on this.

Not sure why your sound is cutting out... but as for WoW, it needs ALchemy installed to run with hardware audio enabled under Vista. I dont believe its in the list of titles included with ALchemy just yet, but adding it manually with the default options works just fine. Without doing this I believe the new sound core used in WoW will automatically detect that it cannot do hardware audio and simply uncheck the box whenever you try, where-as before it would work but still give you Software rendered sound (only instead of WoWs audio engine doing it, it was Vistas - not exactly an improvement). Incidentally, this not only improves performance but vastly improves the sound quality - especially when excessive numbers of sounds are being played. (eg Mass AoE effects on larger numbers of mobs, such as two Warlocks Hellfiring along with a Hurricane and Consecration while pulling the Ballroom - 9 mobs per group - near Moroes in Karazhan) Its possible doing this may also correct your cut-out issue, but its possible it wont. Ive been running WoW alongside Vent for months now under Vista w/ALchemy and an X-Fi and never had such a problem, but then I do also run Vent off the onboard audio so I can use a small earpiece and have voices clearly audible through game sound.

  • ITunes 7 and World of Warcraft issue

It seems upgrading to iTunes 7 has a funky effect on World of Warcraft. While trying to play iTunes in the background and playing World of Warcraft the sound speeds up and slows down, skipping around and is completely horrible to listen to. With iTunes 6 I had no problems listening to great music while playing WoW. Anyone else have a similar issue. Nothing else has changed hardware or software wise since the 'upgrade' from iTunes 6 to 7. I have no way of narrowing down the issue but its definately something that iTunes 7 is doing as nothing else has changed. Any chanages to duel-core processor support by chance? Anyone else getting this or similar issues while using iTunes while playing games?

It seems to be a problem with iTunes and many other applications, not just World of Warcraft. Here's a post from the WoW tech support forum about it:
    http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=27723502&sid=1
There's a setting you can adjust in WoW's configuration file that works for some people, but not for everyone.

  • Magic Mouse, Windows 7, World of Warcraft

I using Apple Magic Mouse on Windows 7. But I found there are some problems when I use this mouse play WOW.
1). Some time right click will stop auto-run.
2). When I didn't use mouse few second. The mouse will "sleep" for save power I think. I have to click mouse to wake it up. But it will make mistake sometimes. I have disable power management for Bluetooth Radio. But seems it still not work.
    Anyone have the same problem?

    Hello mjy78,
    Just an FYI for you.
It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.
Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibility.)
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/en-us/default.aspx
There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".
There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx
In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!
As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.
    Thanks again,

  • 10.5.4 and World of Warcraft

Since the 10.5.4 update WoW performance has deteriorated with graphical artifacts becoming common and even lower framerates than the .5.3 update. I've tried posting on the Blizzard forums but no-one else has replied but I'm sure I cannot be the only Mac WoW user experiencing these problems. I'm not sure if this problem persists among other games but hopefully other users will be able to verify it. Does anyone know for a reason for this and if/ when it's going to be resolved?

I likewise have been having the same issue. On 10.5.3 it ran smooth as silk. Now that I've dutifully updated to the latest and greatest 10.5.4, WoW is UNPLAYABLE. It's fine for anywhere from 10 to 30 min, then it suddenly drops from 30 - 60+ fps to 1 - 4 with an ensuing general lockup of the entire system necessitating a cold restart.
My latency remains at about 55 - 80ms, I can still hear sounds or iTunes playing int he background. If I'm able to Quit out of WoW I'm fine, but if not the machine is useless.
If it's any help to anyone, I can post segments of the console output pertaining to WoW during some of my failed attempts to play WoW.
This really is a drag since I've just converted to mac from almost 20 years of pc use. Making me wonder if I made the right move :/

  • Flash Player and World of Warcraft.

Hey, I don't know if anyone else is having this issue, but everytime I have anything that uses Flash Player opened or minimized and I open WoW, it makes my display drivers stop working and sometimes makes my computer restart.
I have the lastest version of Flash and newest vid card drivers, and i've recently did a fresh format or my system.  I'd llike some help, if there's any to give on this topic.
    Thanks.

It sounds like something might be conflicting with your video card.  What type of card do you have?  If possible, post back with your dxdiag report and I'll take a look.
You might also want to try disabling hardware acceleration for Flash Player to see if this stops the crashing.  This will cause Flash Player to revert to CPU mode, so expect additional cpu usage.
How do I disable or enable hardware acceleration?

  • FiOS and World of Warcraft...Port Forwarding Issue

So for some reason ever since I got FiOS I havent been' able to connect to WoW. Last night I tried to tackle the problem. I following the directions on portforward.com to forward the port in my router. I set it up but when I try to check for the open port via a port check website is says the port ISNT open.
I am using an iMac G5 with a Westel router. anyone else experience this problem? If so how did you fix it. I called Verizon support and was informed that 'port forwarding is unsupported and we won't help you'
About ready to cancel FiOS and go back to cable.

#1 Are you trying to connect to other users OR are you trying to allow other users from the net to connect to you?
#2 Which port checker site did you use?
#3 I know that it did not say open OR Success. What did it say?
#4 What is security level of the router set to? In the guides for that router, they show typical (medium).

  • Latest ATI + Xorg 1.6 + World of Warcraft = black screen

The title sums it up. I've managed to get my 4870 ATI card working with the latest drivers from yaourt (catalyst+catalyst utils, using the drivers released from ATI on the 17th). Since this is a clean install I have the latest kernel and latest xorg, both from the official repository. Everything works fine, normally, including native opengl gaming.
After having installed wine and World of Warcraft I can't seem to make it beyond the login screen, which is completely black. Black screen. Blank screen.
I've attempted to run it in opengl mode through wine AND through the flag 'wine WoW.exe -opengl' and both yield the same black screen.
If I run it as -d3d it'll work just fine if I make sure to uncheck pixelshaders from winecfg, although the fps is terrible, <5fps.
Thoughts on why opengl gives me just a black screen? I remember having to remove libgl before installing catalyst-utils, since it supposedly had it's own libgl built into it.. but I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. Also, every so often the clinet window won't even open for the opengl mode, finishing with this:

So, I'm up for advise and tips. I've followed every wiki and Config.wtf that I've found. So throw it at me: What logs do you need to see, what ideas do you have, and what information do you need to know?

im bumping this cause im experiencing a very similar issue, with simcity 4, and arch 64.
i have all the 'proper' lib32 libs installed (afaik), and i still get that error. interestingly, i also experience opengl related issues using bin32-zsnes, but they are *very* different (in a nutshell, my whole system hangs when i try to change the resolution of an opengl "mode" to another, compositing enabled or not)..
i think ill read up on that whole chroot method that might be a better alternative .. see if it fixes anything, maybe thats the problem.
such errors about wine and glxbaddrawable errors are all over the internet but nothing is ever mentioned about whether its a 64 bit linux installation using 32 bit wine or not ..

  • World of Warcraft graphics distortions - HP Envy 14 (Radeon HD 5650)

    Hi all,
I'm having trouble with my HP Envy 14 and World of Warcraft.  As you can see from the screenshot below, I'm getting a lot of graphics/texture distortion when I'm in certain parts of the game world.
I've been poking around trying to discover the source of the problem and I've tried nearly everything Blizzard suggests in their help database.  I'm suspecting that this is a graphics driver issue, but my driver for my ATI/AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5650 is up to date (driver version: 8.741.1.3000).  I've tried installing the most recent drivers from ATI/AMD's site, but it won't install, saying that I need to contact my laptop manufacturer for the most recent drivers.
Is this a case of being stuck waiting for the laptop manufacturer to take the newest first party drivers and update them for their machines?  Are there any alternatives?  Am I even on the right track here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Bjorn

I have this exact same issue, verbatim. I was experiencing it before 4.0.3 came out and I figured it was due to some driver issues (as I'd messed around with my drivers so much). Recently though, I got an SSD and freshly installed Windows 7, including the latest drivers, and everything had been working fine until this morning, when the problem started again. I haven't installed anything new, haven't altered the drivers, etc. I don't know what it could be. Perhaps it could be hardware related?
Anyways, typing "/console fixedfunction 1" into your chat and then rebooting the game will fix the issue, but it will do so by disabling your shaders and reduce your fps by about 5 or so. So it's a trade-off. Not the most desirable workaround. I'm hoping HP pushes some not-crappy drivers soon (unlikely), and that it isn't failing hardware...

  • World of Warcraft: Once and for all. HELP!

I have been having the issue below since the first expansion (Burning Crusade). I have been back and forth between these forums, Blizzard forums, telephone support and email support to no avail.
The issue is as follows: During the game for no apparent reason the entire computer locks up. Sometimes I can still hear sound, sometimes not at all. The only way to do anything is to hold the power button down until it shuts off. Many times after powering down and back up, the game lock up right at the login, sometimes at the character selection or right when I enter the world.
The only temporary resolution (albeit unacceptable) was to delete the Cache and *** folders from the WoW folder. This seemed to work as an immediate fix until the problem happened again. Now it seems with the latest patches and the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, this temporary fix doesn't even work. I even went so far as reinstaling my entire operating system.
Every time I have removed the folders indicated above I have also repaired disk permissions in Disk Utilities and even removed any instance of "blizzard" or "warcraft" from the ~/library/preferences folder as instructed by blizzard.
This is just speculation but I've noticed that the computer locks up when I swing the character's view around too quickly (holding the right mouse button and turning fast). Also, this last time the problem showed itself after adjusting the graphics in the game and being asked to restart it for the changes to take effect. Note that this the ONLY time I have ever set the graphics in settings so all of my previous encounters with the problem have nothing to do with that.
The problem only happens when playing The World of Warcraft. There have been many threads in blizzard with people complaining about the same problem. I'm at my wits end. Currently the came is vanilla (no mods or adjustments to any of the settings) and the game locks up as soon as I enter the world.
    System Specs
MBP 17" 2.15 Ghz Intel Core Duo (~2005)
    Mac OS X v10.4.11
    2 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM
ATY, RadeonX1600, VRAM 256 MB, EFI Driver 01.00.086
If someone can help me resolve this I will make your bed for a week. Not good enough? I'm open to negotiations. =) Thanks in advance guys.

In regards to your comments first:
    1) I've taken care of the heat issues years ago when I first realized how hot the machine was getting. I purchased a Rain iLAP aluminum pad. Right now the machine is encoding some video recorded off TV and smcFanControl reads that the temp is 90 deg C. The addition of smc is very recent. When I first got it, I set it to 4000 RPM when running WoW. The crash still happened. After that, however, I lowered all of the graphic settings to minimum in WoW and that seems to have cleared the problem up. I recently raised it to a step above the lowest quality and it is still OK.
    2) You say investigate the video cards adequacy? How? I'm running on an ATI Radeonx1600 w/ 256 MB of VRAM.
    3) What kind of latency? You mean in-game latency?
    4) I have 2GB of RAM. How do I know if it is high quality or not. In the System Profiler it shows two 1GB slots both reading Type: DDR2 SDRAM / Speed: 667 Mhz / Status: OK
    5) My internet connection is cable using Optimum Online (Cablevision). Normally I'm running on a Linksys wi-fi router, but the problem occured even when I connected and the machine to an RJ-45 cable.
    6) I removed all mods and moved all the appropriate folders and the problem was still happening before lowering the graphic settings.
    Some new questions:
    1) If I had no heat dissipation techniques what would Apple tell me is the optimal temperature that the machine should be running at to avoid damaging it?
    2) At what RPM does lowering temp with higher RPMs in smcFanControl become a risk to the integrity of the physical fans?
    3) In the past, putting WoW in windowed mode would oftentimes cause the problem to occur immediately. I can't recall if this was after the game was running and the temp would have been higher, but does putting the game into windowed mode cause the comp to crash due to high temps?

  • World of Warcraft from Core 2 Duo to i7: heat and fans

    Hi,
I've been playing World of Warcraft on my 2008 Core 2 Duo 2.93MHz for some time now, with moderate rendering settings, at 1024x640 in window mode so I could check mail and other things. I was very satisfied with the whole thing.
I recently upgraded to the top 2.66MHz i7 with 8MB RAM. With exactly the same settings WoW now uses apparently more CPU cycles and brings CPU heat between 70° and 90°. Therefore fans quickly jump towards 6000rpm. I tried to lower the settings, to no avail.
And I thought with that new machine I could use WoW with full resolution and settings...
Is there something I should be aware of?

    Hi
My i7 macbook pro also runs very hot, i.e. 90 degrees when playing Championship Manager or Dragon Age Origin with all settings at max.
Mind you, the i7 in the macbook have turbo boost speed around the same as you old macbook, also it have hyper threading which increase the core temperatures.
So overall, the i7 have more transistors than the core 2, so it will produce more heat and require more air flow to cool it therefore faster fan speed.
for me, I've stooped play games on the macbook for the reason as I don't want the CPU to operate so close to its maximum temperature for long period of time.
I'm don't think its harmful to the macbook to play games continuously. But I don't think the macbook is not designed as a game laptop, and no other applications I use stress both the CPU and GPU close to 100% at the same time for any long period.
But I do have a PC if I want to play games.

I want to use QuickBooks for my very small bussiness, the recommendation from my accountant was QuickBooks (Windows). I just do not understand enough to decide whether to buy QuickBooks for Apple or Windows and use it in the Parallels world?

QuickBooks for Mac has been available again since at least 2004 (Intuit before that had done nothing with it for years). The current version is QB for Mac 2014. It's pretty much the same price no matter where you look.
The Mac version data is not directly compatible with the Windows version. Sending your data out to your business tax accountant and getting it back in is not at all easy. It's such a pain, our accountant comes here to finalize the books at year end.
There is still also a lot of Windows features for QB Pro which have never been added to the Mac version. They're all on the higher end side that larger businesses would need. I've never run into anything with the Mac version I couldn't do.
If your accountant wants ease of data transfer, then you'd be better off purchasing Snow Leopard Server and run that in Parallels. Then run the Windows version of QB in that.

  • MacBook does not read [World of Warcraft] disc and ejects it.

Everything was fine yesterday, now all of a sudden today my MacBook doesn't want to read the disc and ejects it, while there's still the small box "Insert World of Warcraft III disc."
I'm wondering what could the problem be?

Make sure the disc is real clean with no finger prints or scratches on it. Also, the laser head could be dirty. Try a cleaning disc.
