Windows 7 answer file deployment and iscsi boot

Hi, I am trying to prepare an image with windows7 Ent that has been installed, went through "audit" and then shutdown with:
OOBE+Generalize+Shutdown
So that I can clone this image and the next time it boots, it will use answer file to customize, join domain etc.
The complication to this - is that I am using iscsi boot for my image, and working within Vmware ESX.
I can install Windows without any issues, get the drivers properly working, reboot and OOBE on the same machine - no issues.
The problems come when I clone the VM and the only part that changes (that I think really matters) is the mac address of the network card. The new clone when it comes up after the OOBE reboot hangs for about 10min and then proceeds without joining to domain.
Using Panter logs and network traces - I saw that the domain join command was timing out and in fact no traffic was being sent to the DC. So the network was not up. The rest of the answer file customization works fine.
As a test I brought up this new clone (with new mac) in Audit mode - and Windows reported that it found and installed drivers for new device - VMXNET3 Driver 2. So in fact it does consider this a new device.
Even though it iscsi boots from this new network card - later in process its unable to use it until driver is reinstalled.
In my answer file I tried with and without below portion but it didnt help:

I also tried with E1000 NIC, but couldnt get windows to boot properly after the cdrom installation part.
So my question - is my only option to use workarounds like post OOBE scripts for join etc?
Is it possible to let Windows boot and then initiate an extra reboot once the driver was installed and then allow it to go to Customize phase?

This might be caused by the iscsi boot.
iSCSI Boot is supported only on Windows Server. Client versions of Windows, such as Windows Vista® or Windows 7, are not supported.

Windows 8.1 Deploy and Capture stops with no error

I have a standard deploy and capture TS for Windows 8.1 using the volume media 'install.wim' file.
The only modification I have made is to add a few applications into the TS.
Once started from WinPE, the TS goes smoothly, deploying the OS and the applications. It then restarts and just goes to the login prompt. The TS doesn't continue as expected, rebooting to WinPE and running the capture.
I've checked the smsts.log file and I cant see any obvious errors or anything that could cause this behaviour. The only warning I can see is 'Active reqeust handle is empty, registering with new active request handle' though I'm not sure if this is even
related.
So the process I see is:
Boot to PXE WinPE
Select build and capture TS for windows 8.1
Install OS
Install Apps
Restart
Login screen
Anyone have any ideas?

Was due to one of the apps I was installing requiring .NET 3.5.

I'm in the process of creating a Windows 8.1 image and I'm trying to understand how the Windows store works within the enterprise, does anyone know how the process should work in terms of...
Can a domain joined Windows 8.1 device open the Windows store and download apps with the domain users logon account? this is without forcing the user to go through the process of turning that account into a live account (which we need to avoid)
Can we download some 'free' applications from the Windows store (for example Lync) add this to our image and deploy for all users? we would need to be able to fully automate the process as our GOLD image and desktop deployment process are both unattended
using MDT.
Can we update applications during the Windows 8.1 deployment process without any user interaction?
Hope someone has some answers as I've struggled to find the answers on Bing (...or any other well known search engines!)

To access the store a Microsoft Account is requiered. This means that any AD user who wants to access the store will have to link his AD account to a Microsoft Account which is a manual end-user operation.
To add modern ui apps to your reference image you would need the original appx file to use the "AppxPackage" command from DISM. Unfortunately only the app's developper could give you that file and I'm not sure they'd be likely to do so.
In my opinion, unless you have developper that creates your own modern ui apps forget about managing that kind of app in your reference image, the best you can do is to remove some of the default apps with Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage

Best way to port all Windows XP files, applicaitons and data form my PC over to iMac and how to run those Windows apps on Mac?ns on Mac?

I have a Windows XP machine with apps, files and data. I want to get all that over to my Mac, and also run those apps under Windows XP or even Windows 7 on my Mac. Im wondering:
1. How best to get those files over to my Mac
2. How to run those apps and use my Windows based files/data on my Mac
3. How best to run Windows on my Mac....either partitiion my Mac's hard drive and boot up either Windows or MAC OS, or run some other program where I can easily switch back and forth form Windows to MAC OS, or perhaps get it all on an external hard drive, maybe partition that Windows/MAC OS and boot from that?

I agree you would benefit by using virtualizaiton software. Virtual Box is one alternative the commercial apps for doing virtualization are Parallels and VMWare Fusion which you also might be interested in for their support and updates.
Also you may benefit by book marking and using:

For your MS Office apps then I'd STRONGLY recommend using the native Office For Mac versions, you can find these on Amazon for less than $100 and then you can run the apps natively rather than having to lean on MS Windows. Also for your Financial and Tax software you also may want to use OS X apps too, for example I used Quicken for over 20 years (PC mostly and some Mac) but switched to iBank. Also for tax software I have used Quicken's Turbo Tax, this also runs natively on OS X.
In other words for your stated needs I don't see much reason to stay with MS Windows. You may have other considerations, if you do please state them, some may be real issues and some may be easily overcome.

Service Template and iSCSI Boot Parameters

I use updating service templates to ensure all service profiles are the same and it works great. We have recently setup a Nimble storage array and for iSCSI boot you have to put the target of of the boot LUN in the iSCSI boot parameters. However as each profile will have to boot from a different volume. This causes an issue as I cant change a service profile that is bound to a service template and i need the profiles to have differnt boot volumes.
Am I missing something here.

The service profile requires two different IQNs one for the initiator/server and one for the target/storage_array. What I’m saying is that each initiator needs to have a different IQN but all of them can use the same target IQN to communicate to the storage.
If you are using an updating template to update all of the service profiles, any change you make there will be propagated to all of the service profiles that were created from this template, which means that you can only make changes to the template and not directly to the service profiles unless you unbind them from this template.
The main thing you need to understand is that if you use the same target IQN it doesn’t mean that all of your server are going to try to boot to the same LUN as long as you group their IQN (initiator) to a dedicated LUN on the storage array.

Some Virus Files that been created inside the Windows system file folder and System32 sytem file folder

I have here some copies of the files that I have retrieve inside the Windows folder and System32 system file folder. This files was created by a virus or some malware of some sort. Please take a closer look at thsi becasue this virus doesnt have a visible
events or something that you see at your screen to get you worried or to let you know that there is something bad happening on your system. I just cant get a copy of the virus file that is in a usb or a mass storage device of many students here in my internet
shop. And I'm worried even thou it does not do anything visible, I'm worried that it might made some security holes or privacy leaks that I can't seem to see it. Can't find the main program if it has one, because deleting the files seems to work but if my
computer plugs an infected usb device again the files comes back even thou the main virus file inside the usb device has been block and deleted by Avast, the files still is being created by some program of some sort inside the system, maybe it is already inside
the system or maybe not because the files will only be created if an infected usb device has been plug in even thou Avast has already detected the main .fat file inside the usb device still the files are created. I'm guessing this virus didn't penetrate the
system because full system scan came out clean twice. Boot time scan and start-up scan all users and all loaded to memory files also came out clean, but the files was already deleted before the scan so I don't know for sure of the result if these files were
scan. I just want to know why these files penetrated the Windows system folder even if my UAC is active, how come this virus has gain access to the system folder and bypassing the UAC, DEP and my Windows Defender. And also I'm gonna post in Avast forums about
this too.

Windows 7 file copy and overall network performance

I have noticed some major problems with network performance when trying to access files stored on our NSS based file servers when using Windows 7 Pro.
Our file servers are OES2 SP1 and SLES 10 SP3. I did not have this type of problem when I was on Windows XP. I am currently using the Novell Client 2 SP1 on Windows 7. I did have the BSOD referring to the nccache.sys file. I read a TID that said to turn off file caching, but since doing that it is painfully slow.
Any help in advance will be greatly appreciated. If I should post this elsewhere please let me know as well. Thanks again.

I sure hope that's incorrect, as OES2SP1 runs on SLES10 SP2, not 3.

Caching doesn't have any noticeable or even measurable performance
impact on more copying of files, as caching doesn't come into play here.
It can only have an effect on repeated activity on the same file, which
fily copying by design isn't.

This would probably be better suited for the client forums, but you need
to post more information. Being "Painfully slow" isn't a technically
precise nor helpful description.

As far as my client goes. I will try the IR5 client version to see if that is any better.
As far as being "Painfully slow" i mean it was taking hours to install a product from a .ISO hosted on one of our NSS mapped drives. It would take 15 minutes to copy a 3MB file wile the .ISO was installing. It took even longer to try to copy the file down. I had no problems with any of the forementioned when running on Windows XP SP3 with client 4.91 SP5. What other details do you need?

We have designed a scenario :
ABC(Webservices) <--> XI <--

We have two WSDL files available with us.
One file is provided by the ABC system and the other has been created from our ID in XI
On both the sides we have webservices.
Now my question is:
While creating the Webservices on both the sides, which WSDL file should be deployed on which end...??
And what are all the parameters that we need to pass to the BASIS teams for deployment of the files..??

Always Receiver system Webservice need to be deployed in XI server ( In U r case EP is the receiver System)
U need to create the WSDl file and give that file to ABC system.
No need of any parmaeters while deploying a file.

9iAS version 1 EAR file deployment and UNIX directory permissions

We are running version 1.0.2.2 of OC4J, the deployment
directory seems to need world read/write to enable the
EAR file to deploy. The 9iAS admin user is part of the
group that owns the EAR file (and respective deployment
directory) but still cannot write to the
directory when permissions are set with chmod 755.

One thing to try is in the JAR deployment profile for the EJB - stand on the File Groups node and click new to add a library group and make sure it includes the libraries/jar you added to your project.

Ear file deployment and jar libaries

I am creating a simple ejb application that uses some jar libraries. The ejb app builds fine but when i try to deploy the application, it cannot find the dependent classes although i am including the jar libs in the ear file. I tried including the jars-libs in root as well as in app-inf/lib directory. I also made sure that i have the right jar-libs. What am i missing ?

Windows Registered File Types and Icons

Hi does anyone know how to get the list of extensions and file types that are registered in Windows.
Also is there a way to get a file icon(that is registered with windows) without using the whole file path. For example if I just want to display the icon for .xls files without using the name, is that possible?

Icons are stored in the exe files, dll files, etc (which I suppose you know) so they can be extracted with ExtractIcon(). From java's perspective, they don't exist at all so you have two options:
1) Make some assumptions about the file types you will be handling and store the appropriate icons in your jar file then use FileFilter to decide which icon to display.
2) Use extract icon as mentioned above.

Restricted access Simple File Deployment

Hello,
I have installed CPS on tomcat on a Windows testing box. I've
configured it and Contribute to use a stagging server.
Everything is working great. However, on the web page for the
Simple File Deployment service (
http://<server:<port>/.../customservices/filedeployer/>
for testing purposes I'm not using SSL - is that required?) anyone
can access this page. Well I want to limit that to only a few.
Right now I'm using the File-bases authentication model.
Reading the contribute publishing services manual I read:
"When you extend this service, consider adding the following
functionality:
• Authentication and permissions
You can add authentication functionality to limit access to
the service.
Tip: Macromedia strongly recommends that you add
authentication. To do so, you can simply
copy the settings file and save it as a separate service in a
subfolder for each website, or you can
write you own security interface to handle multiple
websites."
I'm confushed by this. 1) what settings file? I have two
types of settings.xml files (one for determing live and staging
servers and another that has info for webservers, approvals and
etc.) but they dont have any authenticaion info for CPS server.
2) what folders on what server is the above statement
refering to?

I believe you need ColdFusion for Simple File Deployment and
the other options you mention - VERY expensive. For publishing, use
RoboCopy - it's free.

Quicktime refuses to release file type and icon associations

Has anyone else had this problem and how do I fix it?
Changing the preferences doesn't fix it. File type associations in windows doesn't fix it. Help?!

Ok, I kept getting nagged to upgrade QuickTime. So I did. Now QuickTime 7.4.1 has hijacked ALL my Windows image file associations, and won't give any of them back, no matter how many times I change QT’s settings. Why does QT even have a picture viewer? Who would use it? Or pay for it, as QT constantly nags you to do? Windows already has picture viewers, and there are thousands more free ones on the Internet. And why does Apple think that QuickTime is better equipped to handle my PhotoShop files, rather than my PhotoShop software?
I'm really peeved! If I uninstall QuickTime, my web browsers generate errors. But if I don't uninstall, I can't use my other programs! So at this point, the product borders on being MALWARE. Why would Apple do this??? Will the next QT version also include MS Office, email, database, and text file association-hogging viewers too, so that my pain is complete?
