Windows 7 DVD Maker "Error Synchronizing Project"

I installed Windows 7 RC 7100 on a new hard disk and did not install any other software.
I tried to create a DVD-Video by inserting JPG images, AVI files and some MP3 files as slide background music. I was not able to Preview the movie and when I tried to burn it to DVD, it complained "Error Synchronizing Project".
I confirmed temp directory exist and tried to deselect all filters / individual filter, still the same. I tried to install DIVX AVI Codec still the same. Then I suspect I have included too many JPG/AVI files. After consolidating some AVI files, it did burn a DVD successfully. Great, however I found the background music for slides were gone. I open the saved project again, "Error Synchronizing Project" popped up again! Any solution?

I upgraded to Win 7 from Vista due to the DVD software supposedly being upgraded in 7 - if it is so, not by much.
Things I've learned over the hours:
-Win DVD Maker does not generally like music MP3s - I never saw that in the literature, but trial and error suggest that it should be added to the literature for this software.
-The default location for temp and saved DVD files is in your My Videos file.
-When you save a DVD compilation, you are really just saving a TEXT FILE that tells the computer what to play next (it is a laundry list, in order, of your file locations in DOS-like language.) It is edit-able!
-If you get "locked out" of your DVD file by (among other things) the error that we are discussing here, you can do as I did for a large project that I had 4 hours in and then could not burn -
-I opened the *.msdvd file (see location above) and very carefully deleted just the music files from the text file (opened with the software called Notepad in Accessories in the Start Menu). Music files are near toward the end of the file. You
could also find a file (among the sea of file locations in an endless string of file locations) that you think might be cluprit and delete it in this way. MAKE AN EXTRA COPY OF YOUR DVD COMPILATION FILE BEFORE YOU TRY THIS EDITING, INCASE YOU ACCIDENTALLY
MAKE IT UNOPENABLE.
-The trouble is that you can only save it then with a *txt suffix by Notepad - so you save it to the same location as your other video files, and then RENAME the file with the *.MSDVD suffix. Once you do that, the DVD Maker will open the file - and
the music will be missing.
Use a converter to change your MP3 music to WMA, and re-add the music, and it should work.
The software is glitchy and has unstated rules, but will do the job if you don't deviate.
-I also recommend that you do NOT move any files location nor move folders around between the time you finish your DVD project and the time you burn - it won't find your files if you do, and you'll get error messages and no burn.
-I do not work for MCRSFT (but I recently stayed at a Holiday Inn express...) bad humor, old commercial. I bear no responsibility for your loss if you try this and your computer explodes or other calamities. Just trying to help

DVD Maker, and then, in the list of results, click Windows DVD Maker.
On the Turn your digital memories into a DVD page, click Choose Photos and Videos.
On the Add pictures and video to the DVD page, click Options.
Choose DVD playback settings. Select one of the following options, depending on how you want your DVD to play:

TV on which your slide show will be played.
Video format. This option lets you choose the video format that will be used for the video on your DVD. The options are
NTSC and PAL. Most of the time you will not need to change this setting. However, you might need to change it if you plan to share your DVD with friends or family who live in a part of the world that uses a different video format.
The video format that is selected by default is based on the Region and Language settings in Control Panel.
DVD burner speed. This option lets you select the speed to burn your DVD. The default is
Fastest. Some DVD burners won't burn at full speed if you're using certain kinds of DVDs. If you have a problem burning a disc, try selecting
Medium or Slow.
Temporary file location. If you want to change the storage location for temporary files that are created when making a DVD, click
Browse, select the new folder location, and then click OK.
For the best results when choosing a temporary file location, choose a folder on a hard disk drive partition that has at least 5 gigabytes (GB) of available disk space and a fast write speed.
Click OK to close the DVD Options dialog box, and then continue making your DVD.

Windows DVD Maker Aspect Ratio

I am using the Windows 7 DVD Maker tool, and am experiencing some MAJOR issues. I have a widescreen formatted AVI file I am trying to burn onto a DVD. When I import the video, it doesn't matter which aspect ratio I choose the finished DVD is the same. Menu shows video correctly, but the movie part is squeezed into a 4:3 with black bars on all four sides. I have wasted several DVDs attempting to use multiple configurations within DVD Maker and none have been successful. None of the "related topics" have helped as half are unanswered and the others explain a method of using Movie Maker to edit the movie and import the project into DVD Maker. Well, Windows Movie Maker projects CANNOT be imported into DVD Maker; I've tried. It throws a "Unsupported file type" error and cannot be imported. Furthermore, when I try and save it as a file from Movie Maker, it gives me an error saying that the DVD won't hold my movie length, when I know it will, and doesn't do anything to help.
I would really like to get this to work, because it appears to be an integral part of the functionality of DVD Maker and I do not want to waste any more DVDs.

My problem with DVD Maker was slightly different.
I found that with .avi files it did not create wide-screen movies correctly for my widescreen TV. Instead of producing a "letter-box" format (black bars top and bottom) it filled
the screen from top to bottom and also squeezed the picture horizontally. It was obvious right from the start with, for example, the planet earth in the Universal Pictures logo appearing oval instead of round.
A search of forums on this subject produced a hint that codecs could be the source of the problem, so I downloaded the Windows Vista Codec Package. This made no difference. I then
found a tip in another forum relating to a different type of problem, but it suggested loading the .avi file into Windows Movie Maker, setting a few options, creating a project, then selecting DVD for output, whereupon Movie Maker switches to DVD Maker
and creates the DVD in the usual way. I decided to try that out, and eureka! - it worked. The movies now play correctly on my DVD player/TV and also on my home theatre setup.
I suggest that you don't use Save As... nor try to copy it into DVD Maker. Let Movie Maker do the work.
Just select Publish / DVD and Movie Maker will tell you what it's about to do. So click OK and enter the file name.
For those readers unfamiliar with either or both programs, here are the step-by-step instructions:
Click Start
Select Windows Movie Maker
From the top Menu click --
Tools / Options
Select the Advanced tab
Set your applicable Video format - NTSC or PAL
Set Aspect Ratio to 16:9
Select the Compatibility tab
Uncheck the box "AVI decompressor"
Click OK
You only need to set the above options once - the settings will be retained for future jobs.
On the main screen, under the heading: Import-------
Select: Videos
Locate your .avi file and click on it (or double-click if necessary).
The file will be loaded.
Drag the file down and drop it on to the storyboard.
Under the heading: Publish to -------
Select: DVD
Information message appears - click OK
Movie Maker needs to save the project file - enter the name of the movie when prompted and click Save.
Movie Maker will switch to Windows DVD Maker.
Click Next
Select Menu text
The movie name will already be copied in. Change it if you like / or Don't Change.
Load a blank DVD
Click Burn
Go make a cup of coffee, take the dog for a walk.
After the job has completed, be sure to exit completely from Windows DVD Maker before starting the next job with Movie Maker.

Windows dvd maker does not recognize the dvd drive in this computer

I have windows 7 release candidate on my old desktop and this newish notebook. Windows DVD maker works fine on the desktop but on this Lenovo 3000 N200 it will not recognize the built in dvd drive. I have checked with Device Manager and the software is up to date and the device is working normally. I can make DVD movies using a free program called DVD Flick. DVD Flick recognizes the DVD burner, so why won't Windows DVD Maker work??

Verify that the DVD burner is connected properly to your computer and powered on, and that any necessary software drivers for the DVD burner are installed. You can check your hardware settings in the Device Manager by doing the following:

Click Device Manager.
Make sure that the videos you're trying to burn are not corrupted. To see whether the videos you want to burn are corrupted, try playing or viewing them using Windows Media Player. If the files don't play using the Player, Windows DVD Maker cannot burn them.
Choose a slower burning speed for your DVD burner by doing the following:

Return to the Add pictures and video to the DVD page, and then click Options.
2.
In the DVD burner speed box, select Medium or Slow.

I uninstalled DVD Flick and followed the steps above but no luck.....any other ideas??? Apart from the fact that Windows DVD Maker SHOULD work I find it extra annoying because I think it is a very good program....it's better than DVD Flick, and besides not wanting to fork out money I would prefer to have nothing to do with programs like Nero.

when i click dvd
when I click dvd burner I select videos 2 burn.....videos I can watch on windows media player. After selecting the slowest burn speed I click on ''burn'' just like I do on my 7 year old desktop (which will then burn a dvd movie). But on this notebook I get a little window......''windows dvd maker''. It reads ''dvd burner not found. A dvd burner was not found. Make sure a dvd burner is connected and installed then try again.'' How useless is that???!!! I find it hard to believe this problem cannot be solved. Also I don't believe I can make the problem any clearer!!! Windows has no problem finding the dvd drive if I want to burn a data dvd so how come I can't burn a dvd movie using windows??? please help!!!!!

HELP NEEDED!!! Windows DVD Maker -- Video's will not work/burn, at all.

I've registered just for this problem as I've tried just about everything imaginable.
What's happening is that when trying to make a DVD from a video file (photo slideshow plus music works fine) that Windows DVD Maker will get to around 74% encoding and then just stop and give me the error message (at this point the progress meter skips to 99%):
"Cannot create the DVD
An error occured when burning the DVD"
I've tried this using an avi file, (I know it works as I have used DVDFLick and its works great,, the menus are no where near as nice as windows dvd maker), and the sample video file included windows (I beleive its a wmv file).
I have looked at the event viewer, heres my error (which seems pretty common doing a google search):

OK so here's what i tried:
1. Small video files, the sample one in the public folder, other 700mb avi files.
2. Unchecked all the codecs in the options menu, then checked one at a time, then checked both, *one is AC3Filter, the other is Avi Decompressor from memery, located in the system32 folder, so not sure why it registered there if it's a windows included codec???).

Have followed this guys instructions on re-registering the required dll files (which I have checked and they are there in the System32 folder). Though when doing this using the "Run" in the start menu for the command "regsvr32 msmpeg2adec.dll" I get the error:
"The module "msmpeg2adec.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005."
Then I use the command prompt (opening as "Run as Administrator", even though I am an administrator user????) run all the same things, and everything succeeds fine, no errors (but like I said, if don't run as admin, get the same DllRegistryServer error, even though I am an administrator)
Restart the comp. and what do ya know, still doesn't work, same problem, same error.
3. Pictures and music, which burn fine and work fine on a dvd player.
4. Have checked the temporary file where the encoded files are dumped. ie:
C:\Users\******\AppData\Local\Temp\AuthorScript*****.tmp
Have opened the video file in WMC (Media Centre), works fine, no audio but that's still seperated at this point, so no worries there). I noticed though that the AC3 file or audio is at 0kb, and the second it is created when DVD maker is doing it's thing, I get an error, hmm not sure what's goin on there???
5. Have used Vista Media Center Decoder utility. Results were:
Video: Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
Audio: Microsoft DTV-DVD Audio Decoder
There are no other options (haven't needed to install other codec, don't use Nero either).
I have Windows 7 Pro (64bit), so I have all the necessary codecs built in. (As mentioned, I do have Ac3filter, but that's disable/unchecked in DVD maker, maybe that's the problem???). I would rather not download and install additional codecs.
Oh and it gets to 74% encoding then skips to 99% and the error pops up. From experience making a "picture and music" DVD, 74% is about when it starts burning, or when it merges the video and audio to make the vob file/s. It actually skips quickly to 80% and starts burning (slideshow DVD).
Computer is custom built, it not a HP or anything like that, so I don't have those .ax file extensions in system32 (for those who have seen an answer here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistaapps/thread/5cb0a40d-223c-4aed-87c4-3c63f400ee81)
So any idea's/suggestions? I know this will help a lot of people as it seems a common problem. I'm pretty tech savvy, so will try to follow any suggestions carefully.

I am attempting to burn a DVD from a Divx avi file with an mp3 audio track. I tried twice burning a DVD using Windows DVD Maker and had same result both times. Great picture, correct aspect etc but no audio. I played the DVD on a DVD player and on my laptop
- same result. I should add that I used the preview facility on the software and there was audio. But when I burned the DVD - no audio.
I searched through a few forums, including this one, and tried the recommended procedure of going via Windows Movie Maker. I opened the avi in Movie Maker and chose the DVD option, a message appeared saying that the video would open in Windows DVD Maker which
it did. I clicked on burn and yes, I got picture plus sound. However now the picture was stretched and distorted along the top half of the screen with a green band filling the lower half. I tried once more being careful not to make any silly errors and same
thing.
Divx avi with an mp3 audio track is a very commonly used format so it is surprising that Microsoft haven't configured the software to accommodate this and a number of other common formats such Xvid avi, mp4, m4v etc. with mp3 audio OR ac2 audio.
Surmising that Windows DVD Maker would at least be able to deal with a Windows movie file (a wmv file) I converted the avi to a wmv using AVS Video Converter (a piece of software which I use regularly). NB When converting it's wise to use advance menu to change
frame size to 'original' in order to preserve quality and aspect ratio. There are many other video converters on the market but AVS is a good one.
My supposition was correct DVD Maker produced a perfect DVD from the wmv file. It's unfortunate that Microsoft haven't found a solution to this problem because otherwise DVD Maker does a fine job.
CONCLUSION
Convert your file to an hmv file and then use DVD Maker

My problem with Windows DVD Maker is this: After recording to DVD movies I recorded with Windows Media Center, the audio is out of sync with the video. I have ruined so many tapes trying to figure out what is wrong that I can SCREAM!
And, yes, I have recorded on all three speeds. Can anyone help me?

Windows DVD Maker for Windows 7

Hi all, my problem with Windows DVD Maker is that everytime I burn a video it will get to 99.0% and then say there was
an error, something like "try another disc or check to see if dvd burner is connected". I am using the same type and brand DVD's that I have always used, Memorex DVD+R. I don't use this program a lot so I'm not sure how long this
problem has been sitting here. I've tried checking the options and changed to a slower speed. I've checked to make it showed up in my drives, it's there. I've read the other treads and some of this stuff listed is beyond my understanding
and other things are what I tried. I'm not sure what else to do, so if someone could please help it certainly would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

First, pleaes make sure that the DVD itself is not corrupted and is recordable. quick test is using another dvd maker or try in another mahcine.
And verify that the all the pictures video files you're trying to burn are not corrupted.
Meanhwile, please update the driver or just reinstall the driver for the
DVD/CD-ROM drives, check the result.

You might be having a media incompatibility issue, a firmware issue or, hardware issue, software issue or perhaps bad data. Try this Microsoft article.
If you have changed media then go back to the type that works.
Try burning a known good file as another test to see if you have corrupted data files. As a test, download Imgburn and burn some data files to a DVD to see if the burner is good.
Consider experimenting with r/w media until you are sure that you can produce a good burn

Will my internal dvd burn a video from windows dvd maker and if so how ?

I have downloaded some educational documentaries and am wanting to burn to DVD but when I try I get a error message "DVD burner not found". Will windows dvd maker recognize my internal dvd burner ? I have a 6 month old hp g6 # qc399av... these were downloaded to realplayer ad then transferred to windows dvd maker... It will play but will not burn... what do I need to burn these ?
I have checked and all of my updates appear to be current as of yesterday 3-16-12

Yes you can run programs from a differnt drive. All you have to do is download that prgram to that drve same as you would to the c:drive by defualt we will have to reload everything as if you never had itunes.
1 make a folder on your drive called itunes.
2 go to the website and get the itune ( click on the download link and when it ask to run or save click save and tell it where to save.
3. After save is complete click on the install app. it will default to install to you c drive. Change this to your desired drive and folder. (this will install it on that drive and folder.) then you will have to make a shortcut to open Itunes.
4 If you more than one pc configure in the same order and # of drive you will be able to run this drve from any pc.
I do this with alot of programs at work from a 4gb penn drive to get around the firewall and admin rites. (I.T. department)

Windows DVD Maker - 1 or 2 problems that I would like to be removed

Well, I've recently used Windows DVD Maker (WDM) for a couple of DVDs that I wanted to create.
No problem, but one slight annoyance - the settings only let you choose between 4:3 and 16:9, which I'm perfectly fine about, the preview shows the film to be widescreen, which is the correct aspect for the video file, but once I insert the disc into any device
that can run DVDs, the video file turns from a widescreen (or 16:9), to a 4:3, which makes the film look terrible.
Here are details of properties/settings of the videos and WDM:
Videos - HD Quality (1280 x 534 or 1920 x 856), AVI file format, over 2GB (usually)
WDM - 2012, Video Format set to PAL, DVD Aspect Ratio set to 16:9, DVD Burner Speed set to Fastest, Compatibility set to no video filters
This problem has happened to every film I've burned onto a DVD, and I would like to know if it's anything to do with the version I have, machine or if I'm doing something wrong.
I live in the UK so the video format WDM changes the AVI into (PAL) is correct.
I would really appreciate it if anyone has any ideas or solutions that may prove useful.

Dvd menu like windows dvd maker "video wall"?

I recently bought premiere elements 10 and I'm just learning how to use it.
My question: how can I produce an effect equivalent to the "video wall" dvd menu that windows dvd maker has?
I think I can make something like this using the PIP function. I don't see how to automate this process. It seems very tedious. Am I missing something?

Right - I've never bothered with the 'Live' versions.
But I do have installed the earlier Movie Maker 2.6, that allows export to DV-AVI. And if you don't have that you CAN still download it from Microsoft.
But the 'non-Live' version of DVD Maker may not be available in all Windows versions (I recall a post that suggests it's not available in Windows Basic). And if you don't have it you are stuck - as it CANNOT be downloaded separately.
It IS definitely is in Vista Ultimate 32-bit and W7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Windows DVD Maker Produces 4:4 Aspect Ratio Images

Video that has 4:3 aspect ratio, when burned comes out with 4:4 aspect ratio!
Seems like nobody reported such problem.
What can be different on my two PCs?
One is HP Win 7, the other Lenovo Win/Vista.

To answer your question and the recommendation:
1. Are you using some 3rd party tool for burning CD/DVD? Answer is no. I use Windows "Movie Maker" to convert P41110032.API file into Cradle.wmv and then fee Cradle.wmv into "Windows DVD Maker" .
2. Your recommendation: "Change Windows DVD Maker DVD-Video settings ... inspired me to change one parameter "DVD Burner Speed" from "Fast" to "medium". My control parameters looked like this: ..... (too bad this forum told me that
I am "verified" but does not let me imbed pictures, If you give me your email address, I will send you 3 images).
The video that I produce is framed into a square (I call it 4:4 aspect rato). I captured one of frames and superimposed a circle over the frame as proof that ratio that I get is 1:1.
Looks like this: (sorry for lack of pictures, imbed did not work. I was informed that I am "verified" this morning but somehow that is not reflecting on my profile, too bad.
What I need is 4:3 aspect ratio (I know that input is right!) which is shown on next picture. Notice also that "Preview" of "DVD Maker" displays the right aspect ratio but once burned on physical DVD aspect ratio, the ratio gets to be wrong:...(sorry
pictures did not get accepted because " my account was not verified" .).

Windows Dvd maker has quit recording audio

Windows Dvd maker has quit recording audio, what have I done wrong? It will record video but not audio. I have other software installed on PC that works fine, so I no it's not the hardware, It hasto do something with the settings on windows dvd maker. What do you suggest?

Windows DVD maker doesn't have all of the functionality as other programs. I don't use it for that very reason. Try a new Windows DVD Maker download and see if that makes a difference.

Windows DVD Maker: no audio on burned dvd

I burned a movie using Windows DVD Maker, the playback video is fine but there is no audio. Audio is good on original AVI format of the movie but I get no audio when I burn it to a dvd using the Windows DVD Maker. I have an HP G60-445DX notebook pc, Windows 7 32bit Sevice Pack 1installed. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are having problems with your audio. I have done some research and I have a link for you that has a few steps to try. Step 2 mentions installing the latest audio driver and I have the link below for that. Step 4 in the document suggests a different DVD burner and then has a link for their burner. I don't recommend that program one way or the other but there are several DVD burning programs out there.
