Windows 7 KMS client activation error

hi,
Windows 7 KMS client activation error
Any known issue?
Thanks

This problem occurs if the KMS server does not find a valid Windows marker in the ACPI_SLIC table in the computer's BIOS program. This problem occurs for one of the following reasons.
Cause 1
You purchased a computer that has a qualifying Windows operating system installed. However, the Windows marker in the ACPI_SLIC table is corrupted.
Cause 2
You purchased a computer that does not have a qualifying Windows operating system installed. In this case, the Windows marker is not present in the ACPI_SLIC table.

  • KMS Client activation not working.

    We recently moved our KMSHost to a new server. Changed the DNS SVR record and all. All of the Windows 7 clients have moved over fine, but most of our newer Server 2012 R2 Servers are stuck on the old server information.
    I have tried slmgr /skms and it will change the “KMS machine name from DNS”(shown with the slmgr /dlv command) but not the KMS machine IP address:”. If I run slmgr /ckms it will just put back in the wrong machine name from DNS.
    I have a second server in almost the same state except it lists nothing and setting the host and trying to activate I can see it query the svr record, its shown if I display the DNS, but it errors out.
    In both servers if I run slmgr /ato I get the following error.
    Error: 0xC004F074 The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer could not be activated. No Key Management Service (KMS) could be contacted. Please see the Application Event Log for additional information.
    Any idea on how to fix this problem?
    Thanks Chris

    Check that your new KMS is correctly loaded with the relevant updates and pkeys - you can get the 4F074 error, when a KMSclient machine locates a KMShost but the located KMShost doesn't have the correct updates/pkeys to service the request.
    Use "cscript slmgr.vbs /dli all > kmsout.txt" to dump out the current status of your KMShost.
    Which pkey is licensed/active? What OS is your KMShost running?
    If you KMShost OS is WS2008R2, you need to apply updates and the WS2012R2 KMShost pkey to it, or it will not service requests from WS2012R2 KMSclients.

  • KMS client activation failed, but got server response?

    I've been using KMS for several years. Generally there are no problems with KMS, but I have a single machine that is refusing to activate, and I cannot determine why. I've been doing extensive web searching but I'm not finding anything useful.
    Windows 7 Pro client is using the Windows 7 Pro KMS client key GPDD4 as usual.
    KMS Server is in Windows 2008 R2
    The event log says the client is getting a response from KMS server (see below).

    ================================
    Windows 7 Pro was installed on this machine using Microsoft's volume activation media, and is a standard image applied via Windows Deployment Services to some 200 other computers with no problems.
    We also use a variety of surplus/off-lease machines, usually Dell brand, never with any activation problems.

    It's a Dell Inspiron desktop. Apparently a "for the home" system? Yet it was bought with Win 7 Pro OEM installed, and so I had hoped I could roll it into the KMS easily. Tried updating the BIOS but still acts the same.
    How can a "home edition" BIOS that's incompatible with KMS come with Win 7 Pro OEM?
    Oddly, we have several Dell XPS systems that are using KMS just fine. Those are almost exclusively marketed as "power gamer" systems for home use. I should see if there's some way to figure out which specific Dell products do this so they can be avoided.
    Fortunately it seems Windows 7 Pro edition software does not care if I use the OEM key from the sticker, so I typed that in and it activated.
    (Great, one weird machine that has to be treated specially from everything else we've got.)
    Probably a question for Dell to answer. For whatever reason, Dell have not performed all the necessary OEM Activation (OA) configuration tasks on this machine, perhaps due to their manufacturing/marketing strategy for this model, or perhaps due to a defective
    configuration pass in the factory. Perhaps the mainboard in this machine was repaired or replaced at some stage, and wasn't correctly re-configured. Only Dell can resolve the missing marker, since it requires OEM tools.
    Activating using the COA sticker product key, doesn't depend on the marker being present.

  • Windows 8.1 Activation Error 0xC004C003

    Hello. I have a HP ENVY 17t-j000 Quad Edition CTO Notebook PC and recently I have been having many problems with it and things were constantly messing up so I decided to back up all of my files and restore my computer to factory settings. After I had done all of that I logged in for the first time and since I bought it with Windows 8 pre-installed that was the OS that it was running. I looked at the bottom right side of my desktop and it said Windows 8 Build 9600. I also went to my PC settings to personalize my computer (change the lockscreen picture and whatnot) and it said I had to activate windows first. I went to the tab that said activate windows and it said something was wrong with my product key (I cannot remember). Then after that I decided to just update to Windows 8.1 via the Windows store application in my start menu. After I updated to Windows 8.1 it still had the watermark on the desktop but it now said Windows 8.1 and Build 9600. I went to the tab that said activate windows and it said "This product key doesn't work. You might need to get in touch with the store or company you bought Windows from, or you can buy a new key from Microsoft."  Farther down on the page it had a place where I could click on error details and when I clicked on it, it said "Error code: 0xC004C003 Error description: The activation server determined the specified product key has been blocked." I looked up how to fix this error code and on the windows support page it said to contact the company you purchased your system from and request help or a new product key or have them look it up for you. If I could get help on getting this fixed it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Luke Chelcun

    Hi LChelcun
    I'll try helping you,
    This issue occurs because the incorrect permissions are set on the Tokens.dat file or this file is corrupted.
    Try this:
    Click Start, and then type cmd in the Search box.
    Right-click cmd, and then click Run as Administrator.
    At the command prompt, type the following command depending on the operating system and then press ENTER:
    icacls "%windir%\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WSLicense" /grant "
    (between icacls & "%windir% there is a SPACE)
    {Now, The correct permissions for tokens.dat should look like this output from icacls:
    tokens.dat NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEMI)(F)
    BUILTIN\AdministratorsI)(F)
    NT SERVICE\WSServiceOI)(CI)(R,W,D) }
    Close the Command Prompt window.
    You must type this command from an elevated command prompt.
    OR
    To fix this problem automatically, click the Fix it link given below. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.
    http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9779124
    Notes:
    This wizard may be in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.
    If you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the Fix it solution to a flash drive or a CD and then run it on the computer that has the problem.
    Do not run the automatic fix on the machine that does not have the problem.
    The automatic fix will not rename the Tokens.dat file for you if tokens.bar already exists.

  • Windows 8.1 activation error 0xC004F074 for new laptop

    i just bought a new Lenovo ideapad with windows 8.1 pre installed and i m unable to activate windows.
    I don`t have the product key so i installed the magical jelly bean keyfinder, got the 25 product key installed and tried the three methods on the most of the blogs (slmgr.vbs

    no success. Any Clue.
    i was told to ask in Windows 8.1 forum
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
    As the pre installed system activation belongs to OEM manufacture, in my opinion, it would be better to contact Lenovo to check why their system doesn't activated. If this is your laptop itself problem, you could ask lenovo to help you rebuild your system
    and activate it.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Windos 2008 KMS host can't activate Windows 8 clients

    Hi, I have a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 working as a KMS Host, i can activate Windows 7, Office 2010 and Office 2013 without problems, but, when I try to activate Windows 8 clients an error is showed: 0XC004F042, this same error code us registered in the service
    log of the KMS Host.
    Thanks in advanced for your help

    This error almost always means that the KMSclient has successfully contacted a valid KMShost, but, the KMShost does not have the required KMShost productkey installed (e.g. a Windows8 KMSclient contacted a KMShost, but that KMshost doesn't have the needed
    update/patch/productkeys installed).

    Are you trying to activate Win8.0 or Win8.1?

  • Windows 8 Pro WSUS error 800B0001

    I am running WSUS on Server 2008 R2 x64.  I have Windows XP, Vista, and 7 clients connecting to it without any problems.  I recently installed Windows 8 Pro from my TechNet subscription on one of our workstations and I'm getting
    an error 800B0001 when I try to run Windows Update.  I have tried the fix found at
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2720211 already with no luck.  When I'm adding a new system to our network, I use a registry entry to enter the settings and another one to remove them
    when I'm finished (I have a computer repair shop so we see lots of computers come through).
    Here's the registry key used to instruct the system to look to the WSUS server for updates:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
    "WUServer"="http://192.168.5.23"
    "WUStatusServer"="http://192.168.5.23"
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
    "UseWUServer"=dword:00000001
    "IncludeRecommendedUpdates"=dword:00000001
    "NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000
    "AUOptions"=dword:00000002
    "ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000000
    "ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000010
    Any ideas?  Thanks!

    Here is the solution that worked for me.  The only issue I had was that my Windows 8 client still errored (different error than the 800B0001 error I had earlier) the first time I told it look for updates.  I had it check for updates a second
    time and everything worked as expected.  It was provided on another thread that I was following as well:
    KB2734608
    Issues that are fixed
    This update lets servers that are running Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) 3.2 provide updates to computers that are running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012.
    Additionally, the following issues are fixed by this update:
    Installation of update 2720211 may fail if Service Pack 2 was previously uninstalled and then reinstalled.
    After you install update 2720221, health monitoring may fail if the WSUS server is configured to use SSL.
    Additionally, this update includes the following fixes:
    2530678
    (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2530678/ )
    System Center Update Publisher does not publish customized updates to a computer if WSUS 3.0 SP2 and the .NET Framework 4 are installed
    2530709
    (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2530709/ )
    "Metadata only" updates cannot be expired or revised in WSUS 3.0 SP2
    2720211
    (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2720211/ )
    An update for Windows Server Update Services 3.0 Service Pack 2 is available
    Note Update 2720211 strengthens the WSUS communication channels.
    Notes
    After you install this update, Windows Update Agent (WUA) will be upgraded automatically.
    WSUS must be in a known, good working state for this update to work. WSUS must be able to synchronize from Microsoft Update, and clients must be able to communicate with the WSUS server. For more information about how to perform basic health checks on a
    WSUS server, go to the following Microsoft TechNet websites:

    I've personally used this solution (slui 3) to reenter a key when activation wasn't working, but we use MAK, not KMS, so YMMV. I think it may depend on exactly where in the chain things are going wrong.
    This is an interesting bit from the link britishdhez posted (these are possible causes of this error message):
    DNS record not published at _VLMCS._tcp.client.domain. This must be an SRV record, which the KMS server will automatically register. If you have disabled this, you will need to use a GPO on the clients to point them to the correct KMS server to use
    No network connectivity from the KMS client to the MS server on the KMS port (tcp/1688 by default). Install telnet on the client and run telnet KMS.Server.Name 1688 and make sure the screen goes blank
    Not more than 4 hours time difference between KMS server and client. Check that your time zones are correct. If using server core, run timedate.cpl
    No major hardware changes to the KMS server. If the KMS server is a VM and you have added a number of new devices, CPUs, memory etc, or P2Ved you will need to reactivate your KMS license
    The KMS service must have the keys to issue for the KMS client requesting a license. For example, if the KMS server is Windows Server 2008 and you are trying to activate Windows 7, you will need an update installed on the KMS server AND the correct KMS
    key for Windows 7."
    Also, I know you said no KB articles, but for completeness sake (for folks reading this at a later date who may be troubleshooting):
    When trying to activate you get 0xC004F074 with description "The Key Management Server (KMS) is unavailable" - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974998/en-us

  • Windows 8 Pro (re)Activation Error: 0xC004F074 and 5 things that do not fix it

    I pre-apologize if the answer is buried somewhere on this forum already; if it does exist, please point me towards that thread
    OK, I bought a used laptop with dual boot Win7x64 / Win8Prox64 in Feb. 2013. Windows 8 booted up and ran just fine for the first six months. I don't know if it had anything to do with it, but I installed Office 2013 in the Windows 8 partition not long ago,
    and it seems that after that Windows 8 kept issuing pleas to "activate windows" (but no complaints from Office 2013, which is a HUP installation from my work). On the bottom right side of the screen it now says Windows Pro 8 Build 9200, and on top
    of that is the light gray plea to (re) activate Windows. There have been no hardware changes to the laptop.
    I finally got annoyed enough this weekend to try to resolve it, without success. Here are the five methods I tried, and the results:
    Attempt 1:
    go to Control Panel > search Windows Activation > choose Windows Activation
    Response:
    Windows isn’t activated
    Windows can’t be activated right now. Try activating Windows later. If this issue persists, contact your system administrator or technical support department for assistance.

    Attempt 2:

    Error: 0xC004F074 The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer could not be activated. No Key Management Service (KMS) could be contacted. Please see the Application Event Log for additional information.

    CMD (run as administrator) SLUI 3
    Response:
    Enter a product key to activate Windows
    (enter product key)
    Your product key works! Continue when you’re ready
    press [Activate]
    Get the same 0xC004F074 error code message as before
    Attempt 4:

    Click the nearest location:

    Click on Next, and get a non-toll free number in Afghanistan to call.
    Attempt 5:
    CMD (run as admistrator) sfc /scannow
    Response:
    No errors reported.
    All I want to do is (re)activate Windows 8, but it seems to be fighting me all the way.  When you try to find the United States toll free number for Windows 8 activation (a la SLUI 4) on the Microsoft Customer Service site, it simply says the software
    will provide the phone number.
    So here are my questions for the Forum members:
    1) Why did Windows 8 unactivate itself?
    2) What the heck is Key Management Service as it relates to Windows 8 Pro? My limited interpretation is that like Office 2013, Windows is trying to go to a remote server to verify the license (?).
    3) Is the version on this laptop not a standalone version? Is it a bogus or hacked installation, and how can you tell for sure? Could a virus have done this?
    4) What is the path of least resistance to fix the activation issue? I don't mind calling MS customer service as a last resort, if needed, but wanted to see if there was anything else I could fix on my end before doing that.
    Thanks in advance for your input, ask for any other info that I have not covered.

    Please run Slmgr.vbs /dlv and look if you see a KMS server configured.
    Check this guide for KMS issues:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee939272.aspx
    Yes you can buy a Win8 Pro license at the MS store and enter the key. This doesn't impact your tools.

    Hi,
    It sounds like your computer is trying to access a KMS server for some reason. Are you sure you installed a MAK-key on your computer?
    For further troubleshooting regarding eventual KMS-issues, please give us (masked of course) the output from the command 'SLMGR.vbs /dlv'

  • Random disconnects from Windows 7 Clients - Disk is full error

    Recently upgrade my XServe from 10.5.8 -> 10.6.6 -> 10.7.3 Server.
    I have 6 Mac clients connecting to different sharepoints on the server with no issues at all after the upgrade.
    I have 2 Windows 7 Home clients running QuickBooks attempting to connecting to their Accounting sharepoint on the server.  10.5.8 / 10.6.6 there were no issues with disconnects.  After upgrading to 10.7.3 Server and fixing the login issue, the Windows 7 clients can connect to the sharepoint.  But once or twice a day they are getting an error of "The disc or drive Z: is full." (I have the sharepoint mapped to drive Z on Windows 7).
    The sharepoint is on a RAID and has over 1TB free storage.  The local hard drive in each Windows 7 client has 200-300 GB's free each.. so no drives are actually full.
    Is anybody else seeing this?
    Their connections are wired.. Gig Ethernet.  This was not an issue previous to Lion Server.  Only started occuring after the "upgrade" this past Saturday.

    I downloaded a trial of Windows Server 2008 R2 a few months ago.  I may have loaded the ISO onto another PC for testing, but the testing is no longer active.  However,  I am testing a new environment where I need to load Server 2008 R2 onto
    2 different servers for testing, before I activate.  I will be purchasing keys once my lab is fully functioning if needed.  One Virtual Machine will be moved to a server which will be running Server 2012 R2 Datacenter in the future.
    Back to the problem at hand.  When I try to Activate my Server 2008 R2 copy to get 180 days trial started, it errors out with 0xC004F074.  We don't use a KMS Server, and anything I can find seems to refer to this as an error.  I just need
    to activate a trial version.

    Hi,
    Thanks for posting here.
    Regarding the current issue, please understand this error code appears only during the time of activation when the Software Licensing Service reports that it cannot activate the product key
    since the Key Management Service cannot be contacted. Please follow the steps below to activate the machine again to see if it works.
    1) Open cmd(command prompt) with administrator rights
    2) Type slmgr.vbs –ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx (x should be replaced by your 25 digit product key)
    3) Hit enter
    4) Type slmgr.vbs –ato (This will change the product key)
    5) Hit enter

  • Adobe DRM Activator error (client code 31); HTTP code 404. Fault location: 15

    dear all,
    a few years ago I installed and configured Adobe Digital Editions. I bought some ebooks as well. Meanwhile I have switched my computer. And today I discovered my ebooks. I clicked on them and the system tells me that I have to install ADE and to activate the computer. So I successfully downloaded ADE installed it and activeated it.
    ADE immediately shows me all the books I bought years ago. Then I clicked on the books I wanted to read. A window popped up which told me that the book is no more available - due to a changed path. I found no possibility to change an existing ADE configuration.
    I opened ADE and added a book I bought by opening the option to add a file and openend the ebook on its new location. The ebook was loaded, authorized and I could read it. Clever - I thought. Thats the way to clean up my library. First lets delete all the ebooks in the library with the broken location. Afterwards lets add it via the option to add ebooks. Thats what I did. I deleted all the ebooks first. Afterwards I wanted to add all the books like I already did it with the first one. But - I no more could do that!
    This is what I get:
    Your Adobe software could not be activated. HTTP error on Adobe DRM  Activator request. Adobe DRM Activator error (client code 31); HTTP code  404. Fault location: 15
    Does this mean that ADE server does no more authorize my bought ebooks after I had deleted the broken-link-ones from my library?
    I hope not ! - This would be awfull - all my books would be gone !!
    I hope someone could follow my problem description and hope that there is a simple solution for that.
    Thanks,
    D.
