Windows 7 pro client cannot access folders on server 2003 domain server

I added a windows 7 64 bit client to a server 2003 32 bit domain 3 weeks ago and file sharing was working fine until today, 5/4/12. Now, when trying to access shared folders that reside on the server,
I get the following "access denied" message:
[…folder…] is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The user name could not be found.
Strangely enough...
The windows 7 client
can open shared folders that reside on the XP clients in the domain
All the XP clients in the domain can access the server 2003 folders
All the XP clients and the server 2003 machine can access shared folders and printers on the windows 7 client.
The windows 7 client can ping the server 2003 machine and vice versa
I can “see” the server in my network list, but when I click on it, I get the same “access denied” message listed above.
So... the only problem is that the windows 7 client cannot access folders that reside on the windows server 2003 machine. There must be some sharing setting that got changed
by a recent windows update.
Here is what I have done/verified so far on the windows 7 client:
In advanced sharing settings for Home/Work, Public and Domain profiles:
network discovery is enabled
file and print sharing is enabled
use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers is selected (I also tried allowing windows to manage homegroup connections instead, but the problem remained.)
40 -56 bit encryption is enabled
In “gpedit.msc” Local Policies/Security Settings:
enabled the following policies:
Network access: Allow anonymous SID/name translation
Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users
disabled the following policies:
Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and Shares
Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts
Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and shares
What am I missing? Are there policies on the server that need to be adjusted?
Please help! My business is crippled if I cannot access server files from this workstation. Thank you in advance.

    Hello Everyone,
We have Windows 2012 R2 Server configured as Domain cum File Server Role,
There are 20 Win7 Clients / Domain Users who access and used their specific folder on server with \\Servername\Foldername

    This is a kerberos issue.
By default, tickets (especially the TGT which is issued at logon) have a
live time of 8 hours or so (can be adjustet). If this ticket expires and
cannot be renewed (due to a lack of connectivity to a DC or whatever
infrastructure issue), Kerberos fails and ressources cannot be accessed
    via name.
IP on the other hand always uses NTLM and thus still works.

I have windows 8.1 and cannot access itunes store even creating a new apple id. With other users on the same computer I can access itunes store. How can I solve this?

i had the same problem before using a fresh install of Windows 8.1.  I have resolved this issue by running the program compatibility wizard.  This I did by right-clicking on the iTunes icon in the desktop, selecting Troubleshoot compatibility, waited for it to detect compatibility issues and when presented with the following options: 1.) Try recommended settings; 2.) Troubleshoot program, I chose the latter.  When asked what problems I noticed, I checked the following: "The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won't install or run" and "The program requires additional permission"
After that, it tired to resolve the issue, and provided the necessary settings to run iTunes.  Now it's running flawlessly.  I have Avast anti-virus installed though.

Hard drive is USB connected to Extreme.

Reboot the USB drive.. assuming it is powered.. or unplug and replug a self-powered drive.. (you should not use self-powered drives on AE before the latest model.. always use a powered hub).
Does the drive now appear in finder..
If not reboot both drive and the AE.. it should now appear.
If it doesn't work with direct connection try a powered hub.. that can help.

  • Connecting windows xp pro clients to OS X Server 10.5

Hello, I hope I'm posting to the right place. I'm a newbie to Apple and I have a new Xserve that I need XP pro client machines to connect to. Nothing fancy, just need to be able to store files on the Xserve and print to printer(s) from my windows xp pro clients. I'm looking for a step-by-step procedure for this. The server is simple, there is currently no raid setup - just one hard drive that I would like to store files on from the windows clients. Not looking for this to be an application server or an internet server, just a central location to store files and possibly share printers. I don't really even need the Xserve to authenticate xp client logins or users. I just want to be able to connect to it and read/write files to it.
Thank you so much for any help you can give me!!

I was able to follow the instructions till I got to step 3. Under the Settings tab there is no Services tab at all so I can't find the SMB checkbox.
However, on the left list there is a Windows listing and when I look at it and look under one of the tabs (forgot which one) there is an SMB checkbox for Windows sharing and it is checked along with a few other check boxes and the Guest setting is also checked.
Is that enough or is there something else I'm missing?
BTW, I was wrong on the OS X Server version on the Xserve. It's version 10.4.1.1.
    Thanks a bunch

  • Error: "Cannot access the web server" with BlazeDS Turnkey

Help! I'm new to Flex and BlazeDS and Eclipse.  I was trying to setup a Flex Project using a BlazeDS/Tomcat server running from Eclipse on Windows XP per the example in flexbandit.com/archives/55#comment-269 and in (www.infoq.com/articles/blazeds-intro).   I am NOT using the Eclipse Flex plug-in.  I'm using Flex Builder for the Flex code.
    Here's what I've done:
I installed BlazeDS and tested http://localhost:8400 - That worked.
I setup Tomcat in Eclipse.  -  That seemed to work.
I created a Dynamic Web Project in Eclipse - That seemed to work.
I created the bare-bones BlazeDS Configuration under the Eclipse project and then created a basic HelloWorld java class.
I added the destination in the “remoting-config.xml” file found in the c:/projects/workspace/ReportGenTool/WebContent/WEB-INF/flex” directory:
    <destination id="HelloWorld">   <properties>  <source>HelloWorld</source> </properties> </destination>
When I started the application server by clicking on the server's green play button in Eclipse and then tried to open localhost:8400/ReportGenTool, I got the 404 error : The requested source (/ReportGenTool/) is not available which according to the instructions is fine.
Next I created a Flex Project, but when I try to validate the new Flex project configuration, it gives me an error "Cannot access the web server. The server may not be running, or the web root folder or root URL may be invalid."
When I validated the server was running after setting up the BlazeDs Turnkey, I saw the BlazeDS page.
Now when I bring up http://localhost:8400 I get:
          Directory Listing for /
          Apache Tomcat/6.0.14
My eclipse project is named ReportGenTool and I've overwritten the WebContent directory with the META-INF and WEB-INF directories from the BlazeDS installation (C:\blazeds\tomcat\webapps\blazeds).  According to Eclipse the server is running.
My Flex project is named ReportGenTool and is located in another directory away from the Eclipse project directory.
         My root folder is: C:\Projects\workspace\ReportGenTool\WebContent
         Root URL: is http://localhost:8400/ReportGenTool/
         Context root is: /ReportGenTool/
Any idea what might be wrong? What didn't I configure that needs to be configured?
    Thanks in advance.

This is not working because your router has a direct to your web server that is not through the outside interface which is needed for nat to occur, for this to work you need to setup a loopback interface as nat outside and policy route traffic to there for your server traffic
Bu if your server is internal why do you need nat at all? Can you not use bind with views that might be simpler

  • Clients cannot connect to WSUS Server

    Hi there,
I have a Server 2012 with the WSUS feature installed. I successfully synchronised with Microsoft to download the updates. After that, I managed to add two clients (Win 8 and 8.1 respectively) into WSUS.
The next day, both clients lost connection with WSUS and returns 80072EE2 and 80248440 errors.
Could someone help me with this?
    Regards,
    Vinod

    Hi Vinod,
    The 80072EE2 means  ERROR_INTERNET_TIMEOUT.
Please check if the client can access the WSUS server on TCP port 8530.
Also, please check if client has configured to update from WSUS server. We can verify this by check the registry below,
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
Here is the screenshot of lab server,
Besides, if it is possible, please post the windowsupdate.log of the client here. It may give some hints.
    Best Regards.

  • Server 2012 R2 SMB - The process cannot access the file '\\server\share\test.txt' because it is being used by another process.

    Hi,
We are having issues with Server 2012 R2 SMB shares.
We try to write some changes to a file, but we first create a temporary backup in case the write fails. After the backup is created we write the changes to the file and then we get an error:
The process cannot access the file '\\server\share\test.txt' because it is being used by another process.
It looks like the backup process keeps the original file in use.
The problem doesn't always occur the first time, but almost everytime after 2 or 3 changes. I have provided some code below to reproduce the problem, you can run this in a loop to reproduce.
The problem is that once the error arises, the file remains 'in use' for a while, so you cannot retry but have to wait at least several minutes.
I've already used Process Explorer to analyze, but there are no open file handles.
To reproduce the problem: create two Server 2012 R2 machines and run the below code from one server accessing an SMB share on the other server.
Below is the code I use for testing, if you reproduce the scenario, I'm sure you get the same error.
We are not looking for an alternative way to solve this, but wonder if this is a bug that needs to be reported?
Anybody seen this behavior before or know what's causing it?
    The code:
    string file =
    @"\\server\share\test.txt";
    if (File.Exists(file))
    File.Copy(file, file +
    ".bak", true);
    File.WriteAllText(file,
    "Testje",
    Encoding.UTF8);
    The error:
System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file '\\server\share\test.txt' because it is being used by another process.

    Hi,
There is someone else having the same issue with yours. You could try code in the article below:
“The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process”

  • 03.12.12 i cannot access my MobileMe server.

Today 03.12.12 i cannot access my MobileMe server. I have it as a legacy from last year but have not received any notification that it would be switched off today. I need access to my data - How & who do I need to contact at Apple to help me resolve this?
My iCloud accout is working fine.

    appleforsbach wrote:
I knew it was coming but the comfort of it still working (yesterday all was good) meant I kept taking advantage of it!
You can't have been accessing the server - it's been closed since 1 August (and you will not be able to recover any data from it).
Were you using 'iDisk Syncing'? This is where you have a 'local copy' on your Desktop which in the past would have synced with the server, but obviously has not been doing so. However you would still be able to place data in it, but it has presumably now decided to disappear.
The 'local copy' is sourced from a 'sparsebundle' disk image which lives in (user)/Library/FileSync (and then in a sub-folder) so you may be able to locate that and open it to retrieve your data. However some people have reported difficulty in doing this, suggesting the file had become corrupted. You can only try. I really wouldn't bother contacting Apple: they won't be able to retrieve any of your data.

  • After installing windows 7 on my macbook pro, i cannot access my mac

After installing windows 7 on my macbook pro late 2011, when I try to access the mac side of the computer it just stays in "thinking" mode and will not open up the mac. Windows side opens and works ok.
I only know enough to try to uninstall windows 7 then hopefully open the mac and possibly reinstall the windows 7.
PROBLEM: I only know how to uninstall windows 7 from the mac side (in the bootcamp) BUT cannot access it??
    Any help. Thank you
    <Edited By Host>

    Hi craig1045,
It is possible that the file system for the volume containing the Mac operating system, or the OS itself has become damaged. I suggest that you follow the steps in this article to try to repair them -
A flashing question mark or globe appears when you start your Mac
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440
    Specifically -
If your installation of OS X needs repair
If you don't see your startup disk displayed in Startup Manager, or if you see a prohibitory symbol (⊘) appear, your startup drive may need directory repair, or OS X may need to be reinstalled.
If you only see a disk named "Recovery HD" in Startup Manager, select it instead. You can also start from OS X Recovery by holding down Command and R on the keyboard at startup.
From the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility.
In the Disk Utility window that appears, select your startup disk (usually named "Macintosh HD") from the left side of the Disk Utility window.
    Click the First Aid tab.
Click Repair Disk to verify and repair any issues with your OS X startup disk.
After repairing the disk, try to start up normally.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, start from OS X Recovery and reinstall OS X.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Excel Automation with Interop - Windows Service - Microsoft Excel cannot access the file

I have a windows console application, which automates Excel. In our scenario the application gets called from a Windows Service. If the console app is executed directly everything works fine. If the console app is executed through the Win Service, we get
the following error when trying to open the excel file:
Unhandled exception Occured : 'Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'bla.xls'. There are several possible reasons:
The file name or path does not exist.
The file is being used by another program.
The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.'.'
The code snippet used to open the file:
    xlApp = new Application();xlApp.Visible = false;xlApp.UserControl = false;xlApp.Application.ScreenUpdating = false;xlApp.DisplayAlerts = false;xlWorkbook = xlApp.Workbooks.Open( Filename: filePath,  UpdateLinks: 2,  IgnoreReadOnlyRecommended: true, Editable: false);
The console app and windows service are running on a Win Server 2008 64-bit OS with Excel 2013 32-bit installed. The service is running with a special user account, which has all the right permissions on accessed files and folders. The excel process is also
started with the same account (I cheched that one).
I already tried to do the following, but to no avail:
    Run excel.exe /automation -> worked fine
Created the folders and also gave full control to the account under which the service is run (even gave full control to Everyone)
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\Desktop
    C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Desktop
    Configured DCOM
Excel Application -> Identity -> Specific user account
Excel Application -> Identity -> Interactive User
Excel Application -> Security -> Launch permissions -> Everyone full control
    Several combinations of the above
So I really am stuck with this problem right now. Any input on this is appreciated.

I have a windows console application, which automates Excel. In our scenario the application gets called from a Windows Service. If the console app is executed directly everything works fine. If the console app is executed through the Win Service, we get
the following error when trying to open the excel file
Microsoft does not currently recommend, and does not support, Automation of Microsoft Office applications from any unattended, non-interactive client application or component (including ASP, ASP.NET, DCOM, and NT Services), because Office
may exhibit unstable behavior and/or deadlock when Office is run in this environment.
If you are building a solution that runs in a server-side context, you should try to use components that have been made safe for unattended execution. Or, you should try to find alternatives that allow at least part of the code to run client-side.
If you use an Office application from a server-side solution, the application will lack many of the necessary capabilities to run successfully. Additionally, you will be taking risks with the stability of your overall solution.
You can read more about that in the
Considerations for server-side Automation of Office article.

    1. affected workstation are Optiplex 380 running Win 7 pro sp1 with broadcom NICs.
    2. Internal users use a internal webserver for customer invoicing application. Users lose connectivity to this internal web server, all other networking works, network shares, internet, etc. If I try to ping the webserver IP I get no reply. XP
machines are not affected. Not a DHCP issue as there are plenty of IPs.
    3. I have tried different internal NICs (3com) but still had issue. I have upgraded BIOS, nic drivers. etc.
    4. I rebuilt one of the machines using Windows XP pro sp3 and have had no issue with that workstation.
the problem started a few months or so ago. I have not been able to determine the source. I tried running wireshark but nothing stuck out. I have changed the session settings on the IIS server from 15 minutes to 6 hours but did not make a difference.
    5. Today when client lost connectivity to the server I tried pinging from the server back to the client and the connection was restored. This issue really has me confused as I cannot find anything in the logs that sticks out.
