Windows 7 Recognizes Touch But With Wrong Properties

My Sony VAIO recognizes the iPod on "My Computer", but as an 8GB with no files. My Touch is a 16GB. I cannot transfer apps purchased from the PC to the Touch.
I have used all the diagnostics, and everything is fine except the connectivity test says, "no iPod found".
Any suggestions?

Some days after posting here, I asked this question at another Canon website, and learned that in circumstances similar to mine described here, Canon recommends that the MP560 "be connected to your Windows computer then shared to your Macintosh", rather than, as in my case, having the MP560 connected to the Mac and then shared with the Windows computers.

  • User home directories create but with wrong permissions

    Create user in OD.
User account shows up in the assigned Users directory, but with owner root and group admin. Users is on an Xsan volume. I get this in the log:
    Nov 13 20:49:18 fsserver2 DirectoryTools[341]: copyDirectory(en, /Network/Servers/fsserver2.xxxxxxxx.com/Volumes/uservol/Users/mondtruong) failed with 1
    Anyone?

Seems that this is only set at the Root folder, sub folders have the following.
This partly answers my question, but how can I see what those "custom" levels are.
I will be wanting to move my Home folder to another drive and want to make sure the permissions are set so that only the authorized user has access, without causing any issues with system access. So need to make sure I have all the permissions set right.
    Thoughts?

  • MP560 on a Mac OSX networked with Windows 7, recognizes network but doesn't print text

I have a Canon Pixma MP560 connected to a MacBook Pro with OS 10.9.5 which is wire-networked through a Time Warner Arris TG862 modem to a Dell Latitude E6410 laptop and a Lenovo desktop, both of which have Windows 7. The printer is USB cable connected to the MacBook, and works fine. On the Mac, at System Preferences>>Sharing, Printer Sharing is selected, the MP560 highlighted, and at Users>>"Everyone Can Print"; and at System Preferences>>Printers & Scanners, "Share this printer on the network" is selected. On the Lenovo and Dell, I installed Bonjour, and both can "see" the MP560, and at File>Print on both, the printer is recognized and activated. BUT all it does is shoot out a blank sheet of paper; the text is not printed. Evidently there is something I have not done, some box I have not checked off. I will appreciate any ideas! Thanks.

  • Windows Vista recognizes iPod but not iPad...

Windows Vista (with latest service pack; 32-bit) will not recognize my iPad. It was able to before and my last iPad backup in my iTunes is dated back to March. However, now, when I plug my iPad in, it does not recognize it and does not even show up on the disc drives. I have gone through the numerous methoeds that Apple (and others) suggested including reinstalling iTunes, reinstalling the Apple Mobile Device Drivers, restarting my computer using msconfig, etc.
To test out whether it was an Apple driver on my computer or not, I inserted my Gen 6 iPod Classic and it recognized it with no problem. If you know how to solve this, please let me know.
    Thank You,
    Tulga

  • Nudging a Windows user to Mac, but with certain requirements

A co-worker was asking me about moving from Windows to Mac. I explained that I had done so about four years ago and was quite content with my decision.
He had a question that gave me pause, though. He currently works on a Windows laptop and a Windows desktop. He says that he uses an option in Windows that automatically synchronizes all the files on his two machines. This way he can work on either one and when he connects them to his network, they both sync up so that they each have exactly the same and most recent updates.
He also has both machines encrypted so that should they be stolen or lost, the data would be useless to anyone.
I have purchased Synk and it works for my needs, but I don’t use FileVault anymore as it caused problems for me a couple of years ago.
So, my question: Is there a comparable mechanism in the Apple OS that will let him set up two Macs, work on either one when they’re apart, synchronize his data when they’re connected, and do all this with encryption?
I know there are probably other third-party apps to accomplish this, but when problems arise it’s always hard to know who to go to in order to find solutions.
    Thanks for any help.

There are a few options. I don't use File Vault, but I have a friend who does and it very satisfied with they way it encrypts his data. Do some searching in this forum for a variety of opinions.
You seem already to use some syncing software, and there are others to look at. I used one once the name of which escapes me, but it worked well. If I can recall what it was I will post an update.
But I would recommend that your friend considers using .Mac if he wants to sync data between two Macs.
If he activates the iDisk sync option then all his iDisk is synced from one Mac to another via the internet. I use it myself and I find it very useful and reliable. See what else .Mac offers in regards to syncing by going to
    http://www.apple.com/dotmac/sync.html
(Oddly, this page does not mention iDisk syncing)
I feel sure in saying that this far exceeds your friend's experience on his PC.
.Mac syncing has been improved and extended with Leopard, although it seems to have been overshadowed by the more prominent features of the OS.

  • OEM discovers HTTP server but with wrong port

    Oracle 9i
OEM discovers all my nodes but shows my HTTP server running on port 80 when it's actually on 7777. How to correct this? Where is OEM getting port 80 from? I have looked at the httpd.conf and other config files and can't locate the problem. Please help.
    Thanks
    Dave

    David,
Did you ever get this problem solved? I am having what sounds like the same thing.
In my case the http server discovered is at port 443 which is the SSL port. What should be there (I think) is 7777, the actual port.
    Can anyone help?

  • Why exchange email will not work on my ipod touch, but ok on iphone

Why will microsoft exchange email not work on my ipod touch, but with the exact same settings, it works fine on my iphone? What is the reason for this?

Try a soft reset, press and hold both power and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears, about 15 seconds, then release both. If still no joy, go into Settings>General>Reset then tap Reset All Settings. If still no joy, back up your iPod to your computer then do a Restore to Backup, if that doesn't work Restore to new through iTunes. If a full restore to new does not work, you may have a hardware issue, contact Apple Genius Bar to have your iPod evaluated. Good luck, Cheers.

  • SMS text from Touch, but replies to phone

I've been researching extensively looking for the easiest method of SMS texting using my Touch, but with my company provided phone and text plan. My company phone is a Motorola VE465 which is a basic flip phone that is a chore to text on.
On the desktop I use a service through Callwave online which as usual you select your contact, type your message and click send. What is nice about Callwave is that when recipients reply, it goes to my PHONE and NOT an email adress or IM client. That is a very nice convenience for obvious reasons. I'm not always around a wifi signal.
Last night, I found this web app at sms.dynadel.com/ that offers thats functionality though not very gracefully. You can enter a number of contacts and in the "Reply to" field enter your 10 digit mobile number@your carriers sms domain and the replies go to my phone rather than a 3rd party client or email (mentioned many times here before). They also have a paid app called SMS Station, but it is unclear if the app offers that same feature.
This has been the best method I've see. I'd love to see a better one for this with similar needs to mine.I also wondered if there is a way to "spoof" and email account with the reply to address containing the 10 digit mobile number@your carriers sms domain.

A little searching and I found my answer.

After updating iTunes this week Windows 8 recognizes the iPod but does not offer an option to open with iTunes. iTunes does not recognize iPod Touch. Have followed all the steps but without success. Is there a solution with iTunes?

I followed all the instructions on the suggested page. Many files in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ and C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\ could not be deleted. Message said ""Cannot delete files: It is being used by another person or program"' but could not find iPodService.exe in task manager (also, the "Cannont delete ... " did not mention iPodService.exe).
Deleted all that I could. Reinstalled iTunes. Still same result. iTunes and computer both recognize my old iPod. Only the computer recognizes iPod Touch.

Brand new computer with Windows 8.1 will not sync to iPod Classic 120G.  Windows does not recognize anything but iPod Touch?  Is there a simple solution.  Diagnostics have run and failed to point to a fix.

Might be worth tearing down the whole iTunes install and starting over...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

updated itunes to 11.3 on win 7 but had problems. so reinstalled itunes 11.2 but now itunes won't recognize or sync my touch 3 with 5.1.  did all the recommended fixes, appears have correct driver, all necessary itunes programs, etc.  still won't work.  help!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Remote Disc Can't recognize Blank disc, but it does recognize other discs. I am trying to burn something from my itunes on my mac mini to a blank disc on my windows computer. What could be wrong?
I can see other discs such as music and stuff so I know I have installed it correctly but how come I can't see the blank disc that I need to burn?

You can't burn discs remotely, you can only read data discs remotely (i.e. you cannot play movie DVDs either).
Either copy the files to the remote computer or get an external drive.
