Windows 7 start up boot manager problem

I am using inbuilt Windows 7 ( 64 bit , Home Basic ) on my Sony VAIO laptop . For last few days , i am having a very annoying problem during the start up .
Every time i start my laptop , very soon after the VAIO logo appears , the boot manger prompt appears having "Windows 7" option selected and within fraction of a second it disappears and keep coming till i keep on pressing the ENTER button to start
the OS . I am only using the Windows 7 OS on the system . To get rid rid of it i tried few options suggested on websites - i changed the BIOS settings , in 'msconfig' tried some alternative options in the boot tab and finally i also formatted my
laptop but could not get  rid of the issue . Please help me out with this issue .
Thanks,
Shantanu

Hello,
my problem is similar but all sollutions offered are not working for me.
The problem: the bootmanager appears showing available OS and gives the chance to select. I can chose and the spezified OS starts. I also can make the selected OS starting with no timeout (so, no chance to select anything). But everything I tryed to make the
timeout counting back form soemting inbetween 3 and 999 seconds to cero failed. There is just no timeout.
I tryed to configure timeout via (a) *control panel* > *system & security* > *system* > *advanced system settings* > *advanced* next to *startup & recovery*, then (b) I tryed *msconfig* > *start*, the (c) I tryed to use EasyBCD - but
all, nothing helps me to bring the timeout to work.
What I see when I run bcdedit.exe, the timeout is set propperly (see below) - but sill, it is not working while booting - I have to select the OS manually.
Anybody having an idea, what to do to bring the timeout up and working?
Thx for your help!

EDIT:
I found a solution by myself:
(1) via boot-repair I re-installed grub
(2) via Windows 7 install-disc  I re-installed the Windows bootloader (went into sysrepair tools -> via console with "bootrec /fixmbr" and then "bootrec /fixboot")
(3) than, back in Windows 7, I used EasyBCD 2.2 community edition, I deleted the old entry for Linux and added a new one pointing to the right place for grub
(4) finaly, I went into Windows 7 systemsettings to set timeout to 3 second (what was impossible  to be done by EasyBCD for whatever reason)
Now it works fine - both OS can be started and the timeout is working again.

    Hi Eryland,
If you are having issues logging in to your Windows install under Boot Camp, you may want to see if you can select the startup volume to boot into OS X. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Black screen with white texts before Windows start in Boot Camp

I just bought my Macbook 13" and installed Windows Vista in Boot Camp. Everything went fine, Windows run seamlessly with the native speed that's said. My only problem is when I start Windows, it goes through a black screen first with a lot of white texts. One is the message "Unrecognized partition table drive 80. Please rebuild using Microsoft Fdisk Tool." Among others, this message repeats a number of times before Windows start. I don't have any problem after that, except that it delay the start up. I have tried to change a lot of settings that is associated with start up, so far nothing work. Can somebody out there help.

Highlight the phrase and add "Mac" to it, and do a look-up in Google.
"Unrecognized partition table drive 80. Please rebuild using Microsoft Fdisk Tool."
That error is listed on other threads and Microsoft, just easier to find and link thru Google than Apple forum search.
Hopefully that will help. But I would boot from Vista DVD and go through the automatic system repair too.

  • "Login Window Starting" haults boot on iBook G4

I'm trying to fix my friends iBook G4 that will no longer boot properly. The boot process hangs at "Login Window Starting" and I have tried several things including running fsck from single user mode (which found various errors that were fixed), resetting permissions, removing plist files and connecting it to a wired network - without any luck.
I'm pretty sure the iBook G4 is running 10.3.x but she (my friend) doesn't know for sure. Has anyone run into this before? Is there anything else I can try without reloading the iBook? Is it possible to access the HD on this Mac from another Mac via firewire?

    Hi Eric,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
You can access the iBook's hard drive with Firewire Target Mode. I would try repairing the drive with Disk utility and if it still won't boot, download and apply the 10.3.9 combined update again using Firewire Target Mode. It's available on the Downloads page. If that fails, do an Archive and Install.

  • 64-bit Windows 7 on Boot Camp Problem

I recently got my new Macbook Pro, 15" with Intel i7 inside. I installed Windows 7 64-bit in it through Boot Camp right after I got it.
However, after installation, I found my Mac system takes far longer time to boot up than as before (Well, that "far longer" actually means around 20 seconds more than original). Some of my friends told me this could be handled if I totally remove the Windows partition and work on Mac only. However, I purchased lots of software in Windows, abandoning it would mean huge losses to me. Could anyone help me with this?
Besides, while running Windows 7, the OS seems to be quite unstable. First, the computer gets overheated easily; second, the system crashes quite frequently - not a blue screen, but instead, everything stops running and I could not even move my mouse, like what WinXP used to do. I actually just came back from Windows 7 from that problem -- I could only press and hold the power button to shut it down before I could do anything with my computer... So sad...
I'm running Boot Camp 3.1, so probably it's about updating the program.
Could anyone help me? I'd be so grateful for the help. Thank you

Thanks for your answering. I know Windows 7 could be stable, rock solid, for I've been using that OS on the laptop I once had before getting the new mac.
I'll try to search for some new updates for my hardware later and then try if things will be better.
Besides, I noticed that you're running Windows 7 and Mac OS X as well, do you also encounter problem of having the boot up time of Mac OS, too? I mean, it will stay longer at the point where the screen is white all over with the apple logo shown.
In addition, I also had some problems with switching between the two OS's. When I pressed the power button on the computer, I should also press and hold "option" until Boot Camp shows up the two OS's for me to select, right? However, this worked for me before, but recently, I found it really hard to do that: when I press and hold "option", the screen will keep white, and nothing will ever show up, unless I press the power button again to shut it down... Do you have any ideas about this kind of situation?

  • HDX 16 1370 us notebook/ Windows 7 upgrade/ Boot Manager Missing hit ctrl + alt _ delete to restart

Hard drive was going south. I replaced it with new one. The original OS was Vista but I had upgraded to windows 7 a year ago. I placed the Windows 7 CD into the optical drive and windows begin to load. I got past the point of the screen that ask for language and so forth then my dog jumped on me and pulled the power cord from the computer. I plugged the cord back in and tried to restart the process. Now the first thing that happens is I get the message Bootmgr missing hit ctrl alt delete to restart.
I do not know what to do now.
I can't get into command prompt from shift+ F10, so I am totally lost. Is there any hope??
    Thanks

Are you saying that you inserted the Windows 7 upgrade disc to boot to? Was Windows Vista already installed on the hard drive? Have you run the hard drive test in BIOS?

  • Corrupt Boot Manager / Missing Windows 8 Pro

Please assist with the following as I have read too many forums and attempted to resolve without success.
Problem: unable to boot into Windows 8.0 due to corrupt boot manager or missing boot manager.
Observed:  Harddisk is recognized within bios. The disk cable is firmly connected. I hear the disk spinning. Bootrec commands have completed successfully.
    Attempted to resolve by:
    1. Bootrec commands (but will still will not boot).
    2. Factory disk repair command
    3. Ran chkdsk commands (there was some clusters that need to be reorganized).
My primary concern is that I need to access my data on the drive.  Is there a file that I can download and install that will act as my new boot manager?  Or how can I access the drive?  Pulling it of the computer and installing in an HD dock
seemingly will not work because I need the bootmanger fixed?
    Please advise.  Many thanks,

    Hi,
Firstly, I need to confirm your system edition, as you said unable to boot into Windows 8.0 but your provide this problem at Windows 7 forum.
About bootrec command to fix the boot manager problem, I would like to suggest you refer to the KB again and try its process for test.
Use Bootrec.exe in the Windows RE to troubleshoot startup issues:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392
If no use, please try to boot system into repair mode and using Startup Repair to fix system startup problem.

  • Boot Camp Installation freezing at Boot Manager screen....

O.k.... so this is a weird one......
I have a iMac 6,1, and I, for the most part, have had Boot Camp installed on it since Leopard first came out. Recently though, I reinstalled XP cause Windows 7 was causing a bunch of problems for the games I play.
So anyways, something happened, and my XP partition wouldn't load up from the Boot Manager.. so thinking there must have been something wrong with the partition, I deleted it and used Boot Camp anager to make a new one. When I run Boot Camp Manager, it makes the partition fine, but when it restarts to start installing, its gets stuck on the grey screen. If I try restarting and run the Windows disc from Boot Manager, it gets stuck on the icons, and doesn't move any further.
So... I formatted the drive, and reinstalled OS X Snow Leopard thinking that would work, and no, it is doing the exact same thing, so I now thinking it has to be a firmware, EFI, SMC problem... except there is no way to reset or reinstall the firmware if it already up to date. I have reset P-Ram, reset the SMC (even though apparently, this won't do much)
The thing that is puzzling, is that it has worked fine in the past, and funny that it would all of a sudden refuse to run the Windows Installation Disc..... I have a XP, Vista, and Windows 7 official copies, and none of them work and do the exact same thing.
I am hoping that this problem is something very simple.
    JD

I believe I have exactly the same problem.
I try and boot from an install dvd and I get the gray screen with the apple and the forbidden logo...
Tried resetting the P-ram, nothing, merge and partition the drive again, nothing... I even installed rEFIt after all this to try and circumvent the default boot program, nothing... only the forbidden sign...
I can only truly boot into Mac OS X by selecting ALT during startup, or by having it blessed as the bootable partition.

  • After restore windows boot manager says windows failed to start. CQ57 notebook

Had a problem with the FBI scareware. Took it to a cmputer repair place. They wanted $250 to fix it and now it won't boot up at all. It did the HP system restore but when it rebooted the Windows Boot Manager says "Windows failed to start". It wants an installation disc. THen :
    File: \Boot\BCD
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
Is it trying to boot from the wrong partition?

Enter BIOS setup by tapping/holding the F10 key immediately after powering on the laptop.Use Diagnostics to test your hdd.
If you haven't burned a Recovery Disk set, phone HP to order one.Usually around $17. Choose your country here>> Contact HP

  • My laptop have refused to start it will just show windows boot manager on the screen,

My laptop have refused to start up, it will just show windows boot manager on the screen, and me to choose an operating system to start or press tab to select a tool but when I tryed all those things none of it will respond

Thanks also Star 1. I have gone the route you suggest also but with the same results as I explained to the hatter. I have about a dozen die-hard Windows friends and they have been trying to help me also. We have tried everything and I have read a several pages on how to do it but nothing looks like what they are saying it does. When in Vista, Vista says it is the default SU OS. When in XP, XP says it is the default SU OS. So there is nothing to change. Only the Windows Boot Manager (which is really not a manager but a boot selector) shows Vista as default and XP next. I've learned again what I already knew. Windows is a conglomerated piece of crap that is hard as heck to use.

  • HP Mini 110-3500 Netbook: How to skip Boot Manager screen when booting into Windows 7 Starter

    Hi,
As per the topic. I can't seem to deactivate the boot manager screen and it's getting really annoying having to press the enter key each and every time I turn on my netbook.

First you need to get into the BIOS.  You can accomplish this by holding down the F10 (aka volume up) key located on the top of the keyboard near the right.
Next hit the right > arrow key (located on the right bottom of the keyboard) 3 times to get you to the System Configuration tab.
Thirdly, hit the down arrow key (located on the right bottom of the keyboard) 3 times to take you to the Boot Options sub menu and hit Enter
Hit the down arrow key once to highlight HP Quickweb and hit enter.
    Select Disabled and hit Enter
Hit F10 (Yes should be selected) and hit Enter
    DONE!!!

  • Bootcamp Windows 7 partition boot problems

I created a 100gb partion on my Macbook Pro and installed Windows 7. Have been using it successfully for several months. When I went to shut down the other night, Windows wanted to install updates, so I left it and went to bed. Next time I tried to start up in Windows, using option key, startup sequence began with "Starting up Windows" and the icon. After about a minute, the screen went black. Nothing happening, even though I could hear the machine was still running.
Restarted it in safe mode, was able to restore to previously working setup, tried to diagnose the problem with Windows install disk unsuccessfully (unable to operate in safe mode--32 bit). Thought maybe the problem was Windows updates wouldn't install if default startup disk was OSX, so changed startup disk to Bootcamp partition and restarted it. Same black screen after a minute.
Starting in safe mode again, tried to restore previous working settings. Now even that wouldn't work. Still able to see contents of Mac HD, so not worried that it's disappeared. Tried to restart using option key to get OSX, with no luck. It appeared that the Boot Manager had defaulted to the Windows side and wouldn't work with the option key.
Started up with the OSX install disk, using the C key, and was able to boot in OSX. Allowed software update to run, thinking maybe bootcamp driver was the issue. Tried to restart in Windows with option key again, but no luck.
Obviously, I can reinstall Windows 7, but wondering if there's another solution. ??

Just an additional note:  Apple Bootcamp Support states that, for 64-bit Windows 7, 20 GB of hard drive space is required.  I provided 60 GB. What happened to the other 35+ GB of space on that partition...?

  • Y500 dual boot windows 8 and fedora 19 problem

I bought a y500 two days ago and i wanted to dual boot windows 8 and fedora 19, so here's what i did
    1. downloaded fedora 19 (x64) iso from the fedora website.
2.made a live USB using live usb creator.
4.opened disk management utility and shrunk the c drive (windows 8 was installed here) by 100 gb and kept the 100gb unallocated.
    3. started the laptop with novo button, changed the bios config to boot from usb.
4.installed fedora from usb, selecting the 100gb unallocated memory for installation
    5.restarted the laptop.
now the problem is fedora works perfectly but when i try to boot windows 8, the following error is shown.
    windows failed to start
    file:\BOOT\BCD

i am guessing the fedora installation overwrote the boot files of windows and
i have not taken a backup. please help

    hi,
I have a Y500 and I wanted to dualboot fedora 19 with windows 8, this proved to be unsuccessful. I had made a repair disk before the process (but not a set of recovery disks unfortunately >.<   ). now I inserted the repair disk and selected the automatic repair option, it showed a message that auto recovery has failed.  now when I pressed the NOVO button and selected the system recovery option, it does not go into the OKR menu but continues with the normal booting process.  Can somebody guide me or give links where I can find step by step instructions to making OKR work and reset my laptop to factory settings? PLEASE help As Soon As Possible
NOTE: I did resize the windows 8 os partition but the recovery and the lenovo partition are still untouched

  • Windows Boot Manager

    Hello all Support Team,
i Have some problem want to know reason and fix it, please help me.
i'm used the HP ProBook 440 G1. My problem is :
1.When i install OS win7 by disc from Microsoft, after first install complete it's reboot and black screen appear with one option to chose is " Windows 7 install [EMS Enable]". I provisional accept the solution from my friend but i still want to know what reason of this issue.
If choose that without remove disc, the laptop will restart and progress installed windows start again from beginning.
If choose that with remove disc, the laptop start to windows normal and everything maybe is fine ( this is my friend's solution).
2.When I reboot this laptop, the screen "Windows boot manager" appear, even only one option to chose is Window 7, then I check in "Boots"  by open msconfig, I see only one OS and it's already default OS. But every time I restart the laptop the screen "Windows Boot Manager" always appear, how can i remove this screen and take my laptop enter directly to window ?
That's all my ploblem, please help me fix it.
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Katori.

Remove the disk unless you want to install Windows.

If you remove the password you are using, then the notebook will boot right into the operating system. That is not a good practice as there is no security at all.
