Windows 7 takes 8 minutes to logon.

Hello all,
Im having some trouble with a clients computer. After getting to the screen with the windows logon in windows 7 it takes 7-8 minutes before the loading wheel dissappears and the desktop pops up. This is a clean install of windows 7 enterprise. All the latest
updates have been preformed and I had no issues with the computer. Also after the computer was fully functioning they added a network share folder to the desktop so a fellow employee could access files on the desktop. How can i go about finding out why this
is happening. Once the pc logs into windows everthing works fast and fine. Could another profile be slowing down the computer if it was deleted and the files were left behind. Before the network share the computer logged in quickly. Please help me figure
this out, it doesnt make the machine unusable but it sure is frustrating.
Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64bit W all updates
Mcafee 8.8 Enterprise
Office 2010 W all updates
Latest drivers from the dell website.
Core 2 Quad 9550 2.83 Ghz 12mb L2 Cache
4Gb Ram
320Gb 7200 rpm hard drive
Ati Radeon 3450 Video card 256 MB
If you need the exact dell model for pc I can get it later today.

1. I do not think that the proposed answer is correct. If the logon take long time, then you cannot run any program. Either the current user profile is very large, or you wait for something else.
2. You have not reveal what security model do you have. If remore logon is a case (like in AD), then there is authentication problem or indirectly DNS is not correctly configured correctly.
3. Rarely there is a problem with hw component (network card etc.)
4. I would check the network communication with Wireshark.
5. By disabling some parts/applications you may find the problem like AV is checking something before allowing to finish logon process.
6. Contact vendor's support. I mean both, mb vendor and AV.
7. Double check Event logs and Device Manager.

Once i install the drivers on the CD one by one it seems that when i install the Nvidia Nforce drivers - Nvidia IDE Drivers, that's when the boot time

Another issue I now have is the fact that I ran a windows update, and suddenly my resolution only goes up to 1280 x 800. Before windows update
I never experienced this. My resolution would go higher.

• NAC Agent AD SSO delayed 10 minutes to logon

Hi,
I installed NAC in OOB layer 2 with AD SSO and the NAC AD SSO process is very slow (about 10 minutes)
I first logon on Windows with username and password in the domain.
After about of 1-2 minutes, the NAC Agent stays in the system tray and shows to me the certificate message:
I click in yes and after about 5 minutes, the NAC Agent shows to me the certificate message again. I click in yes again then the Nac Agent popup with the message: "Executing automatic login Windows Domain for NAC":
After about 3 minutes the Nac Agent gives me access to network:
I configured rules for Unauthenticated Role to allow:
TCP - 88,135,139,389,445,636,1025,1026,3268,49152-65535
UDP - 88,123,137,389,636
ICMP - Allowed ICMP to Domain Controller
Its about 10 minutes to logon, I tested in Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 machines.
Thanks

Tarik Adman,
I executed the nslookup in the machine that I am testing and in the NAC Server, there are three AD Servers, and they are the same in the machine and in the NAC Server.
I already added the policy to permit the requested ports in the Unauthenticated Role for the three AD Servers:
TCP: 88,135,139,389,445,636,1025,1026,3268,49152-65535
UDP: 88,123,137,389,636
ICMP to the three AD (I can ping the three AD from de cmd testing machine when I am waiting for authenticate)
The NAC Agent is still showing two times the certificate and after about 5minutes he try to logon in the Windows Domain (about 3 minutes to logon)
Thanks

• The sc command, (service control manager), takes 3 minutes and 30 seconds to create a service on Windows 8.1. and 2012R2

Unique circumstance: SC create This takes 3 minutes and 30 seconds on one domain when
using Windows 8.1 & 2012R2. We have two domains: D1.com
and D2.D1.com. If we place a Windows 8.1 or 2012R2 VM on the D2.D1.com
domain and run the sc command to create a service using a D2.D1.com domain
account it will take 3 minutes and 30 seconds to create the service. It
will create the service successfully, but will take 3 minutes and 30
seconds. If we use the sc command to create a service using the obj=
parameter and use an account which is a member of the D1.com domain as the
parameter, the service is created immediately. Note: using a windows 8 VM
on D2.D1.com domain it does not exhibit the same behavior. Also note that
placing a Windows 8.1 VM on the D1.com domain does not exhibit the same
behavior as well. Consequently, this leads us to believe that the sc
command is timing out on the validation of the domain account and then using a
different validation method which is successful.
Commands
used:
sc create test binpath= C:\windows\test.exe (logged in as D2.D1.com
user)
sc create test binpath= C:\windows\test.exe obj= D1\username password= something

Hi,
Based on my understanding, when you run sc command to create service, it takes long time, but when use sc command to delete the service, it runs fast. right? If so, the issue should be related with the command you used.
I also would like to suggest you refer to the below link to use sc to create service, we may also post in the MSDN forum:

• When I click on Firefox for the first time after I boot my PC it takes three minutes to but after that new Firefox windows open promptly.

Hello and thank you for being available to receive this enquiry.
I like Mozilla.
I like Firefox.
In recent months I have experienced and accumulation of problems. Today (September 25th, 2011) I have set about trying to deal with them.
After consulting your Troubleshooting Section I have made a range of changes that I hope shall resolve problems like freezing, unresponsive scripts, non responding windows and browser crashes.
At the time of writing I have rebooted after making those changes so I have yet to discover whether they solve those problems.
However, I have chosen o write now as I already am re-experiencing the first problem I encounter when I boot my PC, i.e. Firefox takes three minutes at least to start after I click the icon. Once it has started, however, ne Firefox windows open promptly.
How do I solve this? I rememebr a time when Firefox opened with lightning speed whenever I clicked the icon.
Thank you for your valued help and interest.
Patrick O' D.

Hello Patrick O' D,
In my experience t here are two different problems with the speed of firefox on startup
# your os and setup
# firefox - and exactly what you use with it
Some factors will be down to your OS and for instance what does start up initially, many of those factors will affect other programmes/applications and not only firefox.
Some other factors depend on Firefox and how you set that up, I always like to have the option to using Firebug but realise it cold clash with other software or slow down firefox startup so I only enable it as I need it. see for instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/performance/

• Firefox 3.6 takes several minutes to load under windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

Firefox was working fine on windows 7 x64. Then I loaded some shell extensions to allow symmmbolic links to fies as my SSD was filling up and I wanted to move some applcation data off the system drive. This caused problems with acronis backup so I unloaded the extensions and reinstalled acronis. Not everything works as before except that firefox takes 3 minutes to load. When initiated it shows up in the processes on process explorer as running but doesn't show up as an applicationrunning for three minutes or so.
Have tried unlintstalling and reinstalling firefox, allowing it through my firewall and using the prefetch option in the shortcut without success.

Yeah i have done that a couple of times. When i navigate through the disk it doesn't even let me run setup.exe, so i installed from bootcamp64.msi. Then after 3.0 installs, i try to update to 3.1 and after the nvidia install, it just quits. When i use my version tracker it says that boot camp is in version 3.0, and it shows an update for 3.1 in software update. Now when i go to uninstall programs, it shows boot camp 3.1 is installed.
As far as the audio, i have tried that as well. If i manually put a driver into that device, it fails on every reboot. It only shows working on Microsoft High Deff Audio Drivers( and it actually dosnt even work, it just glows red on my head phone jack.)
Im stumped.

• My Satellite is really slow and takes about 10 minutes to logon

Hi,
My satellite notebook is really slow and takes about 10 minutes to logon. It also takes quite some time to open up applications especially the internet. Once the internet is open, it takes quite some time to access the net. The application actually drags across the scene and it looks like a closing curtain in extra slow motion.
Help needed.

Hi
Did you check the CPU usage rate?
Start the task manager and check if any strange background processes needs the full CPU performance.
I would also recommend checking the notebook for some viruses and malware. Such programs could make the notebook and OS sluggish.
On the other hand the notebook hardware could malfunction.
You should check the memory using the Memtest86 program. Its freeware. Check the HDD for bad sectors and try also to defragment the HDD!

• MAC OS 10.6.8 Firefox 6.0.2 Any new window opening takes over a minute to happen. Once open all is fine. New tabs open immediately. Only on new windows is there this delay. This only happens on FF, not on Sarari, Chrome, Opera. - stevehorn@websentia.us

Opening FF for the first time and when any additional, new window is opened, it takes over 60 seconds for the window to appear. This happens after reboot and repair permissions in Disc Utilities on reboot (from installation disc). Once window appears, all works fine. New tabs appear instantly. New, added windows still take the 60+ seconds to appear even with current window remaining open. No other browsers or applications behave this way.

Not sure if this is exactly the same as the other reported problems.
But creating a new (via command N or via menu selection) window creates a long thin nearly zero width but full height window. Selecting the window via the window menu and zooming brings it up at full size.
I tried turning off all add-ons and things seemed to work but then stopped working again (sorry can't find a consistent set of symptoms here).

• HT1338 MacBook now takes 1 minute to go to sleep after all windows closed, any help to return it to normal

MacBook now takes >1 minute to go to sleep after all applications are closed. Need help in returning it to the normal 10 sec for sleep

First, Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk. You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Repair reports and if DU was able to repair them. This could just be a start in repairs and you may need a better utility to finish the job.
Then Repair Permissions.
No need to report any Permissions errors........we all get them.

• MacBook Pro takes 7 minutes to restart. Is it ok?

I have a MacBook Pro:

When it becomes slow during the day, I restart it. Sometimes it takes very long just to shut down (the spinning bars keeps rotating in a black background), approximately two minutes. So, I rather simply turn it off (I click OK in the "do you really want to do it" warning), this method is faster.
Either way, my MacBook takes long to restart. It begins with a grey background for a minute or less, then a slim bar appears under Apple logo and starts to fill. This process takes three minutes, more or less. Then, when the bar is filled completely, the login screen with my photo appears. I login and immediately the pesky warning "Do you want to reopen application" appears; I click "Cancel". The desktop background picture appears, but just that, no menu bar, no dock, no icons. MacBook stays in this state for two and a half minutes. Then dock appears, no menu bar yet. I try to start an application with the Launcher icon in the dock but the screen gets blurred with the legend "Loading applications..." and MacBook stays in that state for another minute or more. I scape this blurred screen, I try to click something else but nothing is clickable, until menu bar appears. Then starts loading, clock mini icon, battery, TimeMachine, BlueTooth, iTranslate, DPS and other icons painfully slow. When everything seems to be on place, I click any item in the menu bar and the computer doesn't responde until the third click. Then everything starts working normal... until mid-afternoon, when the computer has become so slow that I have to restart it again.
As you can see, it is really frustrating, painful, unproductive.
Is this normal?
What can I do?

• Lenovo U410 takes 10 minutes to turn on - Please help

Background:
Got the laptop - 500GB HDD and 24GB mSATA SSD with iRST/ExpressCache. iRST was by default enabled in BIOS.
Upgraded to 8.1 a few days after its release. Everything ran fine for a while.
And one day after opening up the laptop and waking it from sleep I got a message saying "It appears Intel Rapid Start Technology is not enabled on your system." Since then the laptop takes 10 minutes to start where as before when I got the new machine it took 20 seconds.
I did a system recovery using OneKey but that apparently only restores the C:\ drive so the mSATA (D is still having issues that are causing the long boot time.
I tried a few things like deleting the mSATA volume/recreating and that did not help. iRST since the error message in the BIOS is showing as INVALID. I can't use diskpart to clean because the mSATA does not show when doing a list disk. I've changed AHCI to RAID and I can't get Windows to launch or go into the troubleshooting command prompt because Windows has an error when trying to start up and it will just boot loop.
At the moment if I power my machine on from a powered down state it will start on a black screen that will sit there for 5-8 minutes and then the Lenovo screen with the loading circle will take another 2-3 and finally when Windows launches the system will be slow for another 2-3 minutes before I can even open the Task Manager. If I try to restart when Windows is loadaed it will just stay at a black screen until I hard-shut down using the Power button.
I really don't know what I can do without voiding warranty (I thought about taking the mSATA SSD out but don't want to void the warranty). I really don't know what could have caused this (maybe upgrading to Win8.1?) but it's been happening since I woke the computer up from sleep once. I've heard that Lenovo Energy Management might be a cause of the iRST issue too?
I'd also like to note that I tried uninstalling iRST and the uninstall was OK. Upon trying to reinstall it iRST is saying that my system does not meet the requirements which obviously is incorrect.
Can someone or support please provide some help? Is there a way I can image my system (both HDD and SSD) to factory?
Thank you.

I've also tried reinstalling ExpressCache but to no avail - it says during the install a suitable drive was not found.
Doing a eccmd.exe -info says a SSD is not mounted.

• Reader X - opening PDF takes 2 minutes, while in Reader 9 it's instant

I have several LifeCycle 8 ReaderEnabled PDFs. When I open them with Acrobat Reader 8 or 9, they opens nearly instantly. Opening it under Reader X takes around 2 minutes. Other PDFs open instantly. I Save-As'd one of the PDFs hoping it would update the document format but it still takes 2 minutes to open. Suggestions?

Version 10.0.0, 64-bit Pressing F1 or clicking on Help->Adobe Reader X Help also takes 2 minutes. It pegs both cores to 50%/ea and the window is marked as "(Not Responding)" for a solid 2 minutes until the web page opens. This delay occurs while *any* PDF document is opened.

• T430s Takes Several Minutes to Shut Down

Hey all,
I've got a T430s running Windows 8.1. The machine runs great and boots very fast (probably helps that I bought an SSD); however, when I shut down, it takes several minutes (5+ minutes) to fully power-down. The screen goes black, but USB devices continue to have power and the fan still spins until finally it powers down. The same issue happens when I close the lid and put the machine to sleep.
Before anyone blames Windows 8.1: This didn't happen right after I upgraded to 8.1. It seemed to start several days after the 8 --> 8.1 upgrade, and I'm not sure what variable changed to cause this.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Nothing in either the System or Application logs that would indicate that there were any problems shutting down. I can see where User32 indicates that the "power off" shutdown has been initiated, then about 5 more log entries in System after that, all of which appear to be normal (i.e. related to services shutting down). The time on these records are all within a few seconds of each-other. I don't see any outliers that are a few minutes out (i.e. things logged several minutes after the shutdown).
One thing I did just notice is that I see the following Critical notice from Kernel-Power after booting up from shutting down:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
So it's not even going down cleanly. But I still have no idea what the offending driver/service/app is.
