Windows 8.1 Creation/Capture

I trying to find information on Win 8.1 SOE creation/capture and wondering if anybody has ever done this and if there were any issues.I've done it before with Windows 7, the process was: - Build the SOE as I wanted it - Create an image with clonezilla in case I missed something and had to go back - Sysprep - Network boot to Windows Deployment Services - Capture Image. - (The answer file was previously created)With my new company we are using Altiris, I'm not familiar with it, and most of the SOE(Win 7) deployment is done via custom built USBs(created before I arrived) so the process isn't the same as before.My plan is to - Build the SOE as I want - Create an image with clonezilla in case I missed something and need to go back - Sysprep - Capture image using imagex booted from a USB - Create an answer fileHas anyone done this before?...

There is an issue with Windows 8.1 sysprep. Basically if you are using the local admin account that you defined when you install Windows for the first time to do the sysprep process the sysprep will fail. This is because Windows Metro Apps are linked only
to that account not to all account. You can manually remove them. Please see below posts.

The easiest way is to create another local admin account or use a domain admin account to initiate the sysprep. This has worked flawlessly for me.

  • Grab error message: the window could not be captured

    I'm using an iMac (27" late 2012) with 2.9GHz Intel Core i5, 24GB Memory, and 1TB storage.  I have upgraded to Yosemite (10.10.2). I am using Grab version 1.8 (117).
    I have gotten an error message while trying to Capture a Window for the latest SAP GUI (7.30 version 9) for the Mac.  The error message pop-up says: "The window could not be captured.  The contents of this window cannot be shared."
    This is new, odd behavior.  I can actually capture a Selection, by drawing around the Window, but I thought it was weird that Grab won't capture that Window.  I can also use Mac keystrokes (Command-Shift-4, space    and also Command-Shift-4 then select the window space).
    Does anyone know why Grab won't Capture a Window for the SAP-GUI?  It will Capture a Mac Window (e.g, Folder contents).

    Details, please.  Platfporm, OS, exact version of PS, etc.

    QuickTime for Windows cannot do video capture at all, if by that you mean live video import and recording, only audio capture.

  • Windows biometric framework - Bad Capture Images

    I'm developing a .net application, which is necessary to obtain the image of a fingerprint through a biometric scanner.
    Now I am using the following code:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/es-es/library/ee207405(v=vs.85).aspx
    This we supplement with the proposal in this posthttps://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsdesktop/en-US/f6f09403-e0b6-4977-b697-d5aabeb5b8ff/how-to-convert-winbiobir-data-into-image-using-windows-biometric-framework?forum=wdkto
    to obtain a jpg image.
    So far so good, but I found the problem with wbf the image is cut off on the sides,
    I show examples (I show only the edges):
    In this example, the image is cut on the left and right, but sometimes also makes it up and down and not very regular shapes, my theory
    is that short sections where the image does not have a very good quality, but my case is important that information.
    The image on the left is taken with this method, while the right is taken with neurotecnologic (same scanner).This
    may seem minimal, I validations traces difficult as cutting your image removes some features on the edges,
    so sometimes you have to repeatedly move your finger across the scanner to validate.
    My question is if this is a problem Framework or is there some parameter in the capture function that allows me to return the whole
    picture?

  • CS6 in Windows 8 won't capture video

    Capture in CS6 won’t record VHS after loading Windows 8. Computer used to work, only change was upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8. The anomaly is that using the same settings, the capture works using CS5.5. The capture was a VHS tape through a Canopus converter (ADVC 300). Done many times before, the only change was Windows 8 instead of Windows 7. Weird that it works under same Windows 8 and conditions for CS5.5 but not for CS6. This indicates something different about CS6.
    CS6 gives the message that the recorder in CS6 is not capturing any frames.
    Anyone having similar problems?

    For John's information, I tried a Legacy Driver. Made no difference. When trying to record in CS6, I could see the video, but when trying to record, message received that no frames recorded. Nothing would happen. Left everything the same, same hookup, closed CS6, opened CS5.5 and recording happened. My guess is that Windows 8 may have changed a file in CS6 that prevents recording. I haven't tried recording to tape yet.

  • SOLVED!!! - MDT 2013/Windows 8.1 Sysprep & Capture Fails

    I'm running a basic Client Task Sequence that installs the OS, installs a few applications/drivers and then should Sysprep and Capture the image.  Everything works fine until after the Sysprep.  The machine reboots but does not reboot into the
    PE environment.  Instead it reboots to the local disc and the machine runs the initial OOBE setup.
    My BDD.log file can be found @
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/14521312/BDD.log
    I see what look like some BCDEdit errors being returned but I'm not sure what they mean.
    If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.  I have to get 30 machines out yesterday.
    EDIT:  REPLACED BDD.LOG

    Lets try a disk format first.. I still use the old Win98 fdisk utility :)
    Wipe all drives clean and then re-run it...
    I will do that but is that not already happening at this stage of the Task Sequence?

  • Windows 8.1 Failed capture process (0x80070BC2)

    I am running into a bit of an issue trying to capture my custom windows 8.1 machine.
    I am running a standard capture TS and it works on a blank version of windows, but when all the apps are installed it doesn't run correctly. In the past I have just run a windows clean up, emptied appdata and windows temp folder. That normally fixes the
    issue but it doesn't any more.
    what is happening is that it runs thought the TS reboots and just loads back into windows. It does not spend any time on the syprep part of the sequence. It say executing but only for a second or two, so I think the issue may lay round there.
    I have looked through the following logs and only found this error.
    C:\MININT\SMSOSD\OSDLOGS\BDD.log - No errors
    C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\SMSTSLog.log

    ==========[ TsProgressUI started in process 2876 ]==========
    Apart from these two logs I have not been able to find any more information. If I run the process for a 2nd time it runs as expected but disables the local admin account so I cant do anything with it.
    Anyone any ideas?

    There is an issue with Windows 8.1 sysprep. Basically if you are using the local admin account that you defined when you install Windows for the first time to do the sysprep process the sysprep will fail. This is because Windows Metro Apps are linked only

  • Install Software Updates in a WIndows 7 build and capture shooses wrong SUP

    Hi,
    My environment is the following.
    One SCCM 2012 R2 Primary site server in a trusted domain, MP, DP and SUP. This site is reachable from the clients on the internal  network.
    One SCCM 2012 R2 server in an untrusted forest, MP, DP and SUP. This server is NOT reachable from clients on the internal nrowotk.
    I am doing a build and capture of Windows 7 using a SCCM TS on a VM on the internal network.
    When the Install Updates task Is running the SCCM client is trying to use the SUP in the untrusted forest instead of the one in the local trusted forest.
    How do I force the SCCM client to use the local SUP instead of the one in the untrusted forest.
    According to
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2013/03/27/software-update-points-in-cm2012sp1.aspx it should prioritize the one in the local forest, but the build and capture PC is not member of the AD so it looks like it just uses the SUP that is
    first in the list from the MP.
    The blog also states that the SUP will not be shifted to the next one in the list before 4 failed scans at 30 minutes intervals so it will take more than 4 hours before the SCCM client will try the next SUP. At that time the TS has long finished the
    Software Update task.
    I thought about creating an entry in the hosts file on the capture PC with the name of the untrusted SUP and the IP of the trusted SUP to redirect the client to use the trusted SUP. I solution that might work but that I find very ugly.
    What can I do to force the SCCM client on the build and capture PC to us the internal trusted SUP?

    The SUP info cannot be got from the Internal MP. Please review the Smsts.log file.

  • Windows Server 2012r2 WDS capture image hangs at black screen

    Ok so i upgraded my server to 2012r2 and i am using the boot.wim from windows8.1 pro iso.  I create a deploy image and it boots up on my fujitsu stylistic machine.  It also boots on my lenovo thinkpad yoga.
    I go and create a capture image and at first fails so i added the usb3.0 lenovo dongle driver.  It then shows me the windows logo and just hangs at black screen.   I have downloaded the entire sccm driver package off lenovo site and nothing has
    helped.  It also does not load on the fujitsu machine either.
    I have been going nuts any help is much appreciated
    thanks
    Dave

    Hello,
    Where did you get the original image? If you download it from MSDN or technet, can you provide the link?
    And is update 1 integrated with the original image or you install it manually after installation?
    In order to address the issue, we need collect some more informaiton.
    Thank you.

  • Windows 10 media creation tool closes after creating installation media

    I have just upgraded my Windows 8 PC to Windows 8.1. Now I wanted to upgrade it to Windows 10, and for that I downloaded the media creation tool and used the "UPGRADE MY PC NOW" option. It downloaded fine and after the download it went to Verification and then to Creating Installation Media for Windows 10.After it was complete to 100% , the Window immediately closed and nothing happened.  Any help?

    I would create the bootable media and upgrade using that. You will need a 8gb or larger flash drive, once created you boot from that and start the upgrade process.

  • Satellite C55T - Windows 10 media creation tool closes after Creating Windows 10 Media

    This morning I was trying to do a Windows 10 upgrade on our Satellite C55T using the media creation tool at - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 After reaching 100% of the upgrade point of "Creating Windows 10 Media" the program just closes completely and nothing else happenes, no error message, just closes like I never started it to begin with. I tried running the program again and the same thing happens. Hopefully someone knows of a solution to this, any ideas anyone ? Thanks !

    ok, not being extremely familiar with messing with ISO files I finally realized what I was doing wrong. I had originally downloaded the Win 10 ISO file direct to a DVD and it would not install, then I realized I needed to download it to the hard drive and then burn it onto a DVD. Once I did that I was able to install it on that computer successfully ! This method (ISO download) was used because I was unable to get a reservation app to appear and I was also unable to install via the Windows 10 media installation tool.

    1. Create the converter class:
    package view.converters;
    import java.util.Collection;
    import java.util.Collections;
    import javax.faces.component.UIComponent;
    import javax.faces.context.FacesContext;
    import javax.faces.convert.Converter;
    import org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.convert.ClientConverter;
    import org.apache.commons.lang.StringUtils;
    public class LOVConverter implements Converter, ClientConverter {
      public Object getAsObject(FacesContext facesContext, UIComponent uiComponent, String value) {
        if (StringUtils.isBlank(value)) {
          // cancel event was triggered, so do something
        return value; // if value is not an instance of String you need to convert it to its primary type (Number, Date, String, etc)
      public String getAsString(FacesContext facesContext, UIComponent uiComponent, Object value)
        if (value == null || /* value is empty in its primary type */) {
          // cancel event was triggered, so do something
        return value.toString();
      public String getClientLibrarySource(FacesContext facesContext)
        return null;
      public Collection<String> getClientImportNames()
        return Collections.emptySet();
      public String getClientScript(FacesContext facesContext, UIComponent uiComponent)
        return null;
      public String getClientConversion(FacesContext facesContext, UIComponent uiComponent)
        return null;
    }2. Declare the converter in faces-config.xml:
    <converter>
      <converter-id>LOVConverter</converter-id>
      <converter-class>view.converters.LOVConverter</converter-class>
    </converter>3. Your inputListOfValues should look like this (see the property converter="LOVConverter"):
    <af:inputListOfValues popupTitle="Search"
                          value="#{row.bindings.DepartmentId.inputValue}"
                          model="#{row.bindings.DepartmentId.listOfValuesModel}"
                          required="#{bindings.EmployeesView1.hints.DepartmentId.mandatory}"
                          columns="#{bindings.EmployeesView1.hints.DepartmentId.displayWidth}"
                          shortDesc="#{bindings.EmployeesView1.hints.DepartmentId.tooltip}"
                          converter="LOVConverter"
                          id="ilov1">After that, when the user clicks the Cancel button, both methods (getAsObject and getAsString) should be invoked, and then you would be able to reset the component value (using uiComponent parameter).

  • Using the 'route print' Command in Windows 7 - Detailed Screen Captures

    The 'route print' Command from an Administrative Command Prompt in Windows 7 provides a variety of useful information.  Let's take a look at the output of a 'route print' Command to examine how the output data is grouped and to understand its logic.
    Let's begin by simply issuing the following command:
    route print
    An Administrative Command Prompt output shows the following the following sections of the Command Output:
    Figure 1 - Issuing the 'route print' Command from an Administrative Command Prompt in Windows 7
     Observing the output of the Command indicates there are 5 Major Sections.  The Sections include:
    Interface List
    IPv4 Route Table
    IPv4 Persistent Routes
    IPv6 Route Table
    IPv6 Persistent Routes
    On this Workstation a single Physical Network Interface is visible and has been assigned a DHCP Address of '10.1.1.36'.
    The IP Stack for this Workstation is as follows:
    IP Address: 10.1.1.36
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 10.1.1.1
    DNS Server: 10.1.1.1
    DHCP Server: 10.1.1.1
    DNS Suffix: YYY.YYY.isp-provider.net
    Most of the time our focus is upon the IPv4 Routing Table output.  Here are the sections of the IPv4 Routing Table output for reference.
    Figure 2 - The IPv4 Route Table output listing the 'all networks' route through the Default Gateway.
    The next IPv4 Routing Table entry indicates '10.1.1.36' (the Host Workstation' is a member of the '10.1.1.1/24' Network and would route packets out the '10.1.1.36' Interface.
    Figure 3 - The Workstation Host at '10.1.1.36' is a member of the '10.1.1.0/24' Network Subnet.
     The next IPv4 Routing Table entry indicates '10.1.1.36' may receive a Broadcast from the '10.1.1.0/24' Network (as noted by the Subnet Mask of '255.255.255.255').
    Figure 4 - The Workstation Host at '10.1.1.36' can offer a Broadcast on the '10.1.1.0/24 Network' (as noted by the 255.255.255.255 Subnet Mask).
     Another IPv4 Routing Table entry focused on Broadcast Addresses is the following.  The Host Workstation at '10.1.1.36' may offer Network Broadcasts to the '10.1.1.0/24' Network.
    Figure 5 - The Workstation Host at '10.1.1.36' can receive Network Broadcasts from the '10.1.1.0/24' Network (as noted by the '10.1.1.255' Network Destination).
     The next IPv4 Routing Table entries (3 of them) are focused on the Loopback Network Values of '127.0.0.0/8',  '127.0.0.1/32' and the Loopback Network Address of '127.255.255.255/32' respectively.  These Addresses provide Services to the Local Host (or Loopback Adapter).  The Loopback Network Destination of '127.0.0.0' provides access to the Loopback Network through '127.0.0.1' the Loopback IP Address.  The Loopback IP Address of '127.0.0.1/32' receives Limited Local Broadcast to the Loopback Network while the Loopback IP Address of '127.255.255.255/32' provides Limited Broadcast to the Loopback Network.
    Figure 6 - The Workstation Host at '10.1.1.36' uses 3 Addresses for Services to the 'Local Host'. All 3 Addresses incorporate the '127.x.x.x' format.
     Next the Routing Table includes 2 specific entries for the Multicast Network (224.0.0.0/4) for both the 'Local Host' or Loopback  Address of '127.0.0.1' and the Host IP Address of '10.1.1.36' that are '224.0.0.0/4' .  These are used for Multicast Network functions.
    Figure 7 - The Workstation Host at '10.1.1.36' includes 2 Multicast Addresses (starting with '240.0.0.0') reserved for use through either the Loopback Address '127.0.0.1' or the Host IP Address '10.1.1.36'.
     The last 2 Routing Table entries provides Services through Limited Broadcast Addresses.  The Network Destination of '255.255.255.255/32' are the Limited Broadcast Address Ranges for both the Loopback Adapter '127.0.0.1' and the Host IP Address '10.1.1.36'.
    Figure 8 - The Workstation Host at '10.1.1.36' includes 2 Limited Broadcast IP Address Values to Service both the Loopback Network '127.0.0.1' and the Host IP Network '10.1.1.36'.
    Finally, upon understanding the sections of the Windows 7 Routing Table there are additional functions available when using the 'route' Command.  This Blog entry is focused solely on output from the 'route print' Command.
    Summary: In this Blog entry focused on using the 'route print' Command from an Administrative Command Prompt in Windows 7.  Each of the defined routes for a Workstation running Windows 7 Enterprise were reviewed for reference.
