Windows 8.1 - Itunes not recognising Ipod 7 gen nano

Recently upgraded to windows 8.1 from windows 8. Itunes was previously working on windows 8 with no problems.
Purchased a new nano 7 gen on route to work. Attempted to connected it to my itunes repeatedly receive an error message "An ipod has been detected, but could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the ipod, then try again. If problem persists uninstall itunes, then install itunes again."
I have tried various itunes apps and currently have the most up to date version running. itunes is being let through my firewall etc and all USB's are funtional.

  • Windows XP or iTunes not recognising ipod

I see a lot of posts regarding ipods not being recognised by either Windows and/or iTunes and I just thought that I would pass on this tip that has helped me fix this problem on two Windows PCs.
In both cases the cause of the problem was usb related. For some reason Windows sometimes gets its underwear in a twist with its usb configuration and in both cases the following procedure fixed the problem.
    1.Turn off the computer.
2.Unplug all USB devices from their connections in the computer except for keyboard and mouse.
    3.Turn on the computer.
4.Plug devices back into the computer or hubs, one at a time in the following order. Wait for Windows to find and enable each device before connecting the next.
    a Hubs
    b Printers and multifunction devices
    c Scanners
d External drives (not memory or key plugins)
e Camera and PDA docking stations
    f All other devices
    5. Make sure the devices work.
    That's it.
I know it sounds like alchemy and i'm not suggesting that it will work for everyone with ipod recognition problems but it has certainly worked for me with two PCs. My PC and iTunes happily run 3 ipods - a shuffle,an ipod mini and an ipod nano.
I thought the above might just help some harrassed Dads and Mums from tearing their hair out on Christmas morning.

  • Itunes not recognizing 1st gen nano?

itunes not recognizing 1st gen nano?

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
    4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • ITune not recognising iPod touch, on and off.

Okay, this is not the usual iTunes not recognising the iPod.
I had this problem when I first set up my iPod. After a full uninstall and reinstall of iTunes, as described in the support article, my iPod was recognised. Now I have added more music to my collection, and a couple of the apps need updating I wanted to update my iPod. I connected my iPod and nothing, it does not show in iTunes. It is showing in my computer as a camers which I really wish it would stop doing. Also when my iPod was connected the first time I set up to allow it to wirelessly update and it won't do that either.
I am stuck on what else to do. I just hope I am not going to have to do a full uninstall and reinstall every time I want to update my iPod, because it rather defeats the purpose.
I have read and followed the instructions here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/itunes/
I have even de-authorised and re-authorised my account as suggested at the Apple store. It is the latest model of touch, not sure what gen that is but it is only two weeks old. What else can I do to try and get this sorted?

Illass thank you for the reply, but as I said I have done everything on the support page. I even printed off the uninstall instructions as it gave you a rather precise order to do it in and I did check for the folders to see if they had been left, I learnt that when I updated my graphics drivers and still a game said my card wasn't up to scratch, even though my card supported shading 4.0 it only needed 2.0 for the game.
I also printed off the software conflict information otherwise I would have gotten totally lost.
However thank you for the disabling info, as it was getting a tad annoying when I was connecting it to charge up.
I decided to uninstall and reinstall again and low and behold it is recognised again. That makes it the second time I have had to do this to get my touch recognised. However doing this everytime I want to update is going to be rather annoying.
Ah the days of the Nano 2nd gen, and the innoence of those times. Shame some clumsy so-an-so knocked it out of my hand and stepped on it as it was just so simple to use.

iTunes is not recognising my iPod and the iPod Setup Assistant isn't showing automatically. Can anyone help. I have a new laptop with Window Vista is this operating system the problem? Can help would be appreciated. I can import music into iTunes OK and purchase music from iTunes itself I just can't get iTunes to recognise my iPod!

    > Step 3:Download and install the latest chipset drivers from the laptop manufacturers website.
    >*So here I am with the issue still not resolved. How do i Download and install the latest chipset drivers >in order to have Toshiba Satellite L300 & Microsoft Vista recognise my ipod?
Install an hardware diagnostic tool like Everest home Edit or similar.
This tool would provide all hardware details about your notebook.
It would list all devices and chipset name too.
I think its Intel chipset so you could find the driver on the Intel page

  • Windows XP/Itunes not recognising ipod

Hi - hope there's someone out thre who can help me!
My son's ipod stopped working after he connected to itunes and recommended he download new version (sounds familiar, huh?) Anyway to cut a long story short, it's not worked since - I've tried deleting all versions of software and updates, etc, etc., for the last two weeks!
Tonight I thought I was getting somewhere, the ipod says it has Version 2.1 under settings, I connect to the PC and it says I need to configure ipod (removable disk E is shown in My Computer - but freezes if I try and right click on it!)
I install Version 2.1 Updater from original disc, then User Guide, then Itunes, Version 4.1.
It then says again Ipod is not readable - needs to be reformatted for use on PC and asks me to click on Update to proceed.
This opens up Updater 2.1 - both Update and Restore buttons are greyed out, after a couple of minutes Restore is no longer greyed out, so I've clicked on this, (already backed up music!) After a while, the blue task bar starts moving and when completed it says
"ipod has been restored to factory settings. Please leave ipod connected while it completes task" - on the ipod the apple logo is showing. After another wait it says Restore complete. I then get a message saying 'USB device is not recognised and I need to format it to get it to work on my pc and so the cycle begins again!!
Anyone out there got any ideas how to get round this problem? Son now using my Zen 20Gb which he complains is chunky but heh, it works!!
Thanks in advance of any help!

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Try working through the following two articles:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306640
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
    Hope that helps.
Aaron and macgirl77, neither of your Macs have USB2.0 which unfortunately is one of the requirements for the +iPod touch+. It seems that after a short period of syncing correctly on USB1.1 it fails.

  • Itunes not recognising Ipod after upgrade to Itunes 9

    Hello,
I upgraded to Itunes 9 as prompted, and now my computer (Windows XP) or Itunes 9 will not recognise my Ipod classic. I have tried uninstalling the USB drivers, uninstalling Itunes 9 and reinstalling Itunes 9 and then Itunes 8. Still not working.
Could someone please help, as I have been unable to find the answer.
    Thanks!

Can you do a system restore rollback to a time when the iPod was recognized?

  • All downloads failing to mount and iTunes not recognising iPod!

My iBook G4 (Model No A 1055) needs alot of updates however i can't install anything. It downloads to the Desktop fine but when i go to open the attachment so i can actually install it a message comes up saing "The following disk images failed to mount" and the reason is a "corrupt image". I have tried to do this with Firefox, iTunes and Adobe and they all say the same!
I also now have issues with iTunes (7.2) which is all of a sudden not recognising my iPod shuffle (2nd gen). It doesn't come up in devices or anything when plugged in my iPod shuffle will just flash orange a few times and then nothing. I have tried to connect it to another (and much newer) Mac computer however it doesn't recognise it on there either.
Has technology just got so good my lappy is basically extinct and i need a new one or is there something i / Apple can do to help get me up to date with everything? Any help and feedback would be really appreciated.
    Thanks
    Louise

if you are running OS 10.3, it's pretty much obsolete
you can try getting OS 10.5 installed, but it can slow down the computer, 10.4 is not much use anymore either.

  • Itunes not recognising ipod classic

Hi all, if your using a Black iPod classic 160GB with wheel on the front when using and connecting to iTunes, if iTunes does not recognise your iPod you will need to  reload iTunes from Apple site, don't let any one tell you it is possible to uninstall iTunes THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE !!!!!! !!!! Even the people on the chat site could not tell me this. You will just need to reload over your existing iTunes, then when the system asks you, restore your iPod back to factory settings, don't fear as you won't loose anything! It will then take a while to copy everything back onto iPod, like a software update for iPod.I went through this experience and spent hours trying to uninstall etc until I got onto a very helpful guy in The States called Noble. So thanks. Good luck.

I've seen a few other posts from people having issues with Playlists not being correctly synced with various models of iPod, but as yet, I've not seen a solution.
I guess we'll just have to wait for Apple to fix it in an iTunes update. I think it's an iTunes issue rather than a Classic issue, and I'm sure Apple already know about it, but if you feel like it, you could send them some feedback at: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html or for the Classic at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html. Interestingly, the iTunes feedback has no option for "bug report". Make of that what you will!
Note that Apple do read the feedback, but they will not respond to you.

    Hi Polydorus,
Thanks for the reply. Really sorry - didn't log the problem, but it was fairly generic, just said that something along lines that my 'Norton install was missing some files' (doh! realise now it'd have been useful to note them - but this was about my 3rd hour of working through my problems! Sorry).
If you know of any way I can get a "history" of updates from Norton let me know - I can publish the file. I am using Norton Version 10.0.3.3
Sorry to not be of more help!

I can't sync my 2nd gen. touch with iTunes, when plugged in, iTunes doesn't recognise the iPod and the icon doesn't come up, however it does charge. I've been through all iTunes help and can't find anything. Any suggestions?

  • ITunes not recognising iPod's video capabilities

When iTunes is up and the iPod is connected and I go into the options for the iPod, the options in the Video tab are shaded out. Whenever I try dragging a video onto the iPod it says they can not be viewed on this iPod. I KNOW this is a 5th Gen iPod with video capabilities.

You need to add the video to iTunes first, and then synch with the iPod. I don' think you can simply drag a video directly to the iPod.
