Windows 8.1 j6480

My Officejet j6480 stopped working after I installed Windows 8.1.
I then completely uninstalled all HP software, including using the "scrubber" software I found on HP's website.
I downloaded the last full feature drivers and software install (dated 2012-10-14), and extracted it and nothing happened.
I located the extracted files in the user\appdata\local\temp folder, and found setup.exe.  I tried runnig it in windows 7 and windows 8 compatibility modes, but it just hangs  (it shows as executing in task manager but nothing happens).
Will HP be providing an updated version of the drivers soon?  I am totally unable to print.
I did just try adding the printer in the Add Printers dialog, and a driver was found by windows, but I get an error (no details) when I try to print a test page, or print any kind of document.  I cannot scan anything either.
By the way, the printer is connected to the network via ethernet (ie. not wirelessly, and not directly to computer via USB).
This question was solved.

Hi scarfinv
I understand you are unable to install the printer. You ran the scrubber from the website and it still won't run.
I found a newer driver online. Dated 2012-10-22. Download, save and then run it.
Win 8.1 32 bit driver.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-109977-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
Win 8.1 64 bit driver.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-109977-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
Let's try running the Level 3 uninstall.
Go to the tiles screen, (start up screen)
start typing %temp%, open the folder starting with 7z, (Example: 7zS2356) util, ccc, uninstall_L3.
When the uninstall has completed restart the computer.
Double click the downloaded file, it will extract all the software to the temp folder. When the installation splash screen comes up, close it.
Go to the tiles screen, (start up screen)
start typing %temp%, open the folder starting with 7z, (Example: 7zS2356) then right click on Setup and run as administrator.
Let me know if that works.

  • How to download hp solution center for windows 8.1 on officejet j6480 all in one

  • Officejet J6480 - Always prints unwanted copies, Windows 7

Concerning the HP Officejet J6480 All-in-One:
Everytime I print a document, it always prints 4 copies even when I specify only 1 copy. Amidst the printing, I always have to manually cancel the print after the first copy is finished. It's also strange because, suppose that I'm printing a 1 page document, in the printer status window, the number of pages reads "4/1".
So, I recently switched my desktop and laptops computers to Windows 7 from Vista. Both machines now have this issue. One machine has Windows 7 64-bit and the other 32-bit. I've ensured both machines have the correct driver installed.
    Any solutions?

For the quick solution(it sounds like you may be in a hurry)...
Use the "Windows Fax and Scan" Program.  This will find the scanner, and you can run the Scan job and save it to My Documents->Scanned Documents...
Here is a reference on the Windows Scan: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Scan-a-document-or-photo-with-Windows-Fax-and-Scan
For the long term solution:  I would really try getting it working with the HP recommended software found at: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/ProductList.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodTypeId...
Uninstall the old software, uninstall the printer.
Then first start by installing the software and do what the software tells you to do.  I have found these OfficeJet devices to be picky on the order things are done.
    Hope it helps.

  • New Windows 8.1 Desktop w/pre-existing Officejet J6480 AIO

I purchased a new desktop that came with Windows 8.1.  I have downloaded OJ_AIO_J6400_Full_Win_WW_140_408.exe which is supposed to install drivers and the HP Solution Center.  When I run the software it does the file extraction and puts up an HP screen asking if I want to install or exit.  I select install and a small disk appears on the screen and then it disappears.  Nothing more happens.  I have done this several times and have uninstalled all HP drivers that came with Windows 8.1, reinstalled the basic drivers so I could print again.  I need to scan and use other solution features but I'm not having any success.
I also tried the wizard but it does everything that I've done and leaves me in the same place.
I have read that there are issues with the software and Windows 8.

    Hey pmonty,
Ok, so with the last steps not working, the next couple steps will be to test if we can get the software installed a different way.
First you will need to test the built in scan software/drivers of the notebook. To do this you can use two different options. One is HP Scan. This app should be pre-installed with all the other apps on your computer. The second option is Paint. To use Paint, all you need to do is open the software, and then under file select From scanner or camera. Are you able to scan with either of these methods?
The next test will find out if you can install the printer on another User Account. I have included the steps below, if you need them.
    1. From the Start screen type Control Panel
    2. Open the Control Panel
    3. Open User Accounts
    4. Click on Manage another account
    5. Click on Ass a new user in PC settings
Then follow through the steps for creating a new user. Once the new user is created, you will need to be signed into this profile. After you are signed into the new profile, try downloading, and installing the full featured software of the printer.
Are you able to install the software successfully?
    Looking forward to your answers.

  • Hp officejet j6480 on my wireless network. Doesn't go to standby mode after printing. windows 7 os.

As above, several computers running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit (also one ies 64 bit).  After printing, the printer remains on instead of going dormant.  I have tried updating drivers from Microsoft, and from HP with no resolution to the problem.  I also noted that when I had the device set up for Fax, an incoming call (fax or voice) would turn the device on and it would stay on.

Most likely what you are seeing is your router pinging the devices on the network so the printer never goes into sleep mode or is actived without you doing anything simply because it is constantly getting pinged by you router. You might try to see if there are anysetting for this in your router software.

  • HP J6480 AIO Can I print ...

I have an HP S9J desktop with WIN7 PRO 64 bit and a new notrbook: HP ENVY WIN8 64 bit.
I have the J6480.   Works fine, 6 years now, connected via USB to my S9J desktop.
J6480 is a WiFi printer, and is connected via USB to the S9J.
Can I still use the J6480 via USB to my desktop and also connect same to the Envy via WiFi switching back and forth to print from either device as necessary?
I downloaded the driver for WIN8 to the Envy and am unsure if I should install and try to set up this configuration.
My query is part of my planning.

  • Device Manager HP Printer ! Symbol, Windows "failed to connect" Sound- Yet Printer Works

Every startup, I hear the Windows "device failed to connect" sound.  How can I get rid of this?
I have an HP J6480 Printer with WIn 7.  Device Manager is not recognizing the printer driver.
Under Device Manager, the printer is listed with the ! error symbol.  No other devices have an error symbol.  Yet the HP Solution Center and printer work.
    1)  I have tried fresh installs of the current HP Full Feature Software.
    2) I have tried the HP Uninstall program, going through all five Uninstall programs two times.
    3) I have run CCleaner to clear registry issues.
    4) I have tried deleting the Device Manager "Officejet ! J6400 series" entry.  The Solution Center and the printer then do not work.  Apparently, Device Manager recognizes the printer but not the driver.  I have to go to "Programs", "HP", then "Officejet J6400 Series" to reinstall the software.
    5) I have tried to get Device Manager to recognize the software.  When I click on "! Officejet 6400 series",  I get the message "the drivers for this device are not installed (code 28)".  If I then click on "Update Driver" and select" Browse my computer for driver software" then click on "Browse "C:\Users\Myname\Downloads", where I have both the HP 13.0 Full Feature Sofware Software and the Basic Print and Scan Driver files, it says "Windows cannot find driver software".   If i click on "Search automatically for driver software" I get the same message.
I would very much appreciate any ideas!  Thank you!

At the bottom right side of the screen it also says v 5.10. Now, when we have pressed any of the options, the computer does nothing. It would appear that perhaps the computer can not tell windows 7 to boot or something. Unfortunately we do not have the install disc either...  Any thoughts?
Seems like it's stuck at the POST Screen, and nothing's responding.
I suggest removing all the USB and peripherals plugged into the PC and leave only the power and the USB keyboard receiver- nothing else.

Everything was working fine until yesterday AM.  Windows did an automatic update the night before and then I couldn't print wirelessly.  Per this website my driver was missing???  So I downloaded new driver, downloaded new install software.  Did several uninstall and reinstalls. Install kept freezing at 94%.  Found the below link with a solution:

I am running VISTA 32 bit.  The J6480 is connected to my network (verified via the network and sharing center map).  I ran the "wireless network test report" in the printer set up menu (all is OK).  Help... spent 3 hours on the yesterday and another 1.5 this AM.

    HI,
    First uninstall the software.
Then reinstall the sofware by right-clicking clicking on the software installer package and selecting  run as Adminstrator. Provid your admin password if it is requested. Installing with elevated priveleges should take care of the issue.

Hi - Does it print slowly from all applications or just certain ones?  In either case, you can try following the steps in this document.
In addition, try going into Control Panel, Printer, right click on the printer and choose Printer Properties.  Click on the Advanced Tab and select Print Direcly to the Printer.

  • Officejet J6480 and HP Scan problem after upgrade to OSX 10.9

    Hi everyone,
    Product: Officejet J6480
Problem: HP Scan won't open after updating to Mac OSX 10.9 Mavericks
    Error Message:
HP Scan cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure HP Scan works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X.
Any thoughts on what I should do? From what I can tell, the HP Support information asks me to run an Apple Software Update. This takes me to the Apple Apps Store, and I'm not really sure where to go from here, since this seems to be the wrong direction.
Thanks for any and all help.

  • J6480 troubleshoot wireless connection to Mac OS 10.5.8

    Hello,
I was previously able to wirelessly print from my MacbookPro (10.5.8) to my OfficeJet J6480 over my home wireless network (Netgear router). I unplugged my printer, and when I plugged it back in, try as I may, I haven't been able to restore wireless printing (USB printing works fine).
After trying simple measures, I eventually just uninstalled the HP driver software, restarted my computer, and reinstalled the driver from the website. Printing a Network Configuration Page from my printer shows it is connected to my wireless router with IP address 192.168.1.2. However, when I go to add the printer, it is not detected under HP IP Printers, nor can I see the printer web page when I type http://192.168.1.2 into my web browser.
I can add the Bonjour printer to my printer list, but again when I go to Show Bookmarks > Bonjour and try to see the printer webpage, I get an error (server not responding).
It seems that my laptop is not communicating with my printer. If anyone has advice it would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

Ok here is the update, this morning I was able to "reset printing system" and re-add the USB and Bonjour printers. USB works. Bonjour it says "unable to connect to printer". Cannot detect IP printer.
Network configuration page I just printed says connected to wireless network, IP address 192.168.1.2.
I am still unable to open the printer web page by going to show bookmarks > bonjour, or by going to http://192.168.1.2 in my browser window.
It seems my printer is on the network, but for some reason my computer is not communicating with it . . .
Other things I should try? Thanks!

  • Win 7 and J6480 wireless

I have the officejet J6480 set up wireless through a linksys router.  I got a new HP laptop yesterday and finally got  the printer installed on it by using windows update and in the printer folder, add printer, local port, standard TCP/IP port, select IP address of the J6480, then clicked on windows update, the list repopulated and I selected the officejet J6400 series and completed installation.  I was able to print wirelessly from the laptop at that point.   However today when I booted the laptop up I can not print.  The printer is selected as the default printer but when I tell it to print the status says that it is offline.  Any ideas how to remedy this?

hp says on there web site there will be a win 7 driver for the j6480 in late Jan of 2010 . I am having the same problem with win7 , linksys wireless router a new hp laptop and the j6480 . I guess we (and a lot of other folks ) will just have to wait till HP gets off its lazy butt and gets this driver out to us .

  • J6480 stops printing on wireless after successful install

I have a J6480 installed on our wireless network at home.  3 PCs are sharing it a). Dell XPS desktop XP SP3, b). Dell Studio 15 Windows 7, c). Dell Inspiron 15r Windows 7.  I downloaded the latest J6480 software package, with drivers for the Studio laptop and installed it.  We never have any printing problems with the desktop running XP.  However,  the Studio laptop went through a successful install of the latest J6480 software package and drivers about 6 months ago.  After the install, all test pages and subsequent printing worked fine for a period of time but one day when I sent a print to it, it just sat in the print queue and wouldn't print.  Power down/up on the printer, etc - no printing.  Prints from the XP system worked fine.  I removed the printer from "devices and printers" on my laptop and went through the "find a network/wireless printer" process.  It found the printer twice (under two different names but same IP, which is very curious), and I selected one, completed the install process, and was on my way with printing again.  I go through this process about once a month.  I've even gone through deleting all entries for the printer in the registry (saw that as a recommended solution in a blog somewhere) - problems still persists as described.
I got my wife the Inspiron 15r for Xmas and downloaded/installed the latest J6480 software package with drivers on her laptop.  Everything has worked flawlessly these past 3 weeks.  Starting today however, she is running into the exact same problem as I described above with my laptop.
I have run the HP printer diagnostic utility numerous times.  It tells me I have a print stuck in the print queue (I knew that...) and removes it.  It then tells me to power down the PC and the printer, power them both back on and try again.  After doing that, the utility starts back up and says it "made some changes" and everything looks fine.  However, when I print a test page - nothing prints.  Remove the printer - rediscover and reinstall - print works fine.
Obviously, I can't keep deleting the printer and reinstalling it.  Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have this same problem. In a way it is good to know that I am not the only one. Have you found a solution?
