Windows 8 crashes and is stuck in blue screen help menu after trying to update to 8.1?

Hi all, after recieving a prompt yesterday by windows to update to 8.1 (about time!), I turned on my computer this morning to see that it was stuck on the HP boot logo. After 5-10 mins, I realised it must have started incorrectly so i shut it back down and booted it up again. After the boot logo passed, the windows 8 symbol appeared with "updating your system" or something along those lines. I let it there for a while (20 mins) then when I returned it said that the installation had faield and was "returning to previous version of windows" One thing led to another and when the computer restarted again, I am now stuck with the blue screen troubleshooting menu. Yes, this would be easy to fix by a refresh BUT... It says to enter the password for Admin, the non-existent admin account with a required password?I tried the start-up settings, but that just creates another blue screen of death. How am I to bypass the password and actually access my computer? Even if I were to delete everything? There is a cmd option... Anyone know any commands that would be appropriate? Thanks in advance, Josh

, Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums.  The first thing you will want to check is if there are any issues with the hard drive you put in.  Run the BIOS diagnostics for the hard drive and the hard ware to make sure there are no issues. HP Notebook PCs - System Diagnostics (F2) And. HP Notebook PCs - Testing a Hard Disk from the BIOS Please let me know how things go. Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

With regard to the original desktop icon which targets Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.exe
    a. if you do not have the program open via Adobe Premiere Elements.exe and you have closed the program that got opened to the Welcome Screen with Adobe Premiere Elements.exe, and if you go back to the Task Manager/Processes,
DO YOU SEE ANY INSTANCES OF "ADOBE PREMIERE ELEM,,," IN THE LIST OF PROCESSES THERE? If the answer is no, then I do not think that you have to worry unless you have a compelling need for the Welcome Screen. Just my point of view, but the only reasons for it being seem to be:
    a. For Adobe to monitor (track) your activities
    b. Quick access to photoshop.com
    c. Be kept up to date with Adobe Ads
You should have full control of your Premiere Elements projects using Adobe Premiere Elements.exe to open the program without the Welcome Screen. I just wanted to make sure that there is no evidence that you have 2 instances of the program being open at the same time.
If you look at the processes opening using Process Explorer Sysinternals, you will note
    a. if you click on the icon that targets Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.exe, the first process that opens is Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.exe, followed by Adobe Premiere Elements.exe and what looks like PhotoshopServer.exe. After Adobe Premiere Elements.exe and PhotoshopServer.exe appear, the Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.exe disappears from the scene leaving the other 2 processes as the running processes.
    b. if you click on the icon that targets Adobe Premiere Elements.exe, Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.exe never appears, just direct to Adobe Premiere Elements.exe and PhotoshopServer.exe which remain as the running processes.
I am not sure what happened to your Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.exe file. But I do not see that you need it to move forward in your projects. I would be curious to know the whys, but is it worth it on your time schedule?

  • When I open Firefox, even in safe mode, it causes my Windows 7 64-bit to totally crash and I get that blue screen of death =(. This has happened suddenly on Nov 16, 2010. I had been running Firefox on Windows 7 64-bit with no problems previously. Help?

I have had Windows 7 64 bit for the past year and have run Firefox with no problem. It was the most problem free of the three browsers including IE and Chrome.
I have a Vista side where I run my online backup and did so yesterday. Went on Firefox. No Problem.
Today I booted into the Windows 7 side. Seemed to boot up okay. Until I opened Firefox. Suddenly, my whole computer crashed, windows shut down and that bluescreen popped up. I restarted normally. Same thing. I restarted in safe-mode. Couldn't find any problems. Went back to regular mode. Started FF. Boom crash.
Back to safe mode. Did a system restore. Back to regular startup. Didn't help. Attempting to open FF crahed windows.
So back to safe mode. Started Firefox. Crashed the whole computer and same blues screen.
So I uninstalled FF. Reinstalled FF. It still makes Windows crash.
So now I am on IE :P

See below -- the way I asked the question the first time may not be clear. This post was a goof but I can't figure out how to delete it

Please help my gen 3 iPad just crashed to a blue screen I have tried everything to fix it. I've plugged it in to the charger and my computer and it doesn't respond. Any suggestions would be a help

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • Blue Screen of Death After Trying To Install Windows On Pavilion ze4900?

After my hard drive died in my Pavilion ze4900, I replaced it with another notebook hard drive I had laying around.I also tried installing Windows XP home from a Windows installation CD, the same OS the laptop had before the hard drive died. All went well until the laptop was done loading all the installation files, instead of giving me the option to either install Windows or repair Windows, the laptop ends up showing me a blue screen with the message: " A problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer." What can I do to resolve this issue? I have installed Windows XP on another computer using the same CD, so the CD hasn't gone corrupt and the replacement hard drive is barely used. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • MBP stuck on blue screen with spinning loading icon during update to 10.6.7

    I have a mid-2010 model Macbook Pro 13inch, 2.4ghz/4gb ram
I've been scouring apple forums and even reddit and my googlefu has yielded no such luck. Basically, System Update has been yelling at me for a few weeks now to upgrade to 10.6.7 (among other updates) and I've been putting it off and putting it off, with the intention of eventually doing the update, but I just kept forgetting.
Finally tonight, I remembered, and decided to open System Update, and do all the recommended updates that it was asking me to do. So, without thinking twice (I've never had an issue with this before) I clicked download and install, and away it went, downloading like usual and then rebooting.
Thing is, it's been stuck at this blue screen with the spinning spiral coming up on 5 hours now. I know the 10.6.7 update was close to 400mb, but I've never had anything like this happen before.
My hard drive had more than 150 gigs free on it last time I checked, and it's been running absolutely flawless up until now.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it supposed to take so long? What do I do?
I've been contemplating shutting it down by holding the power button, but since it's a OS update I'm afraid the drive will be corrupted, and unfortunately I don't have a current backup of the drive either... Help

I left my macbook plugged in over night, we're now going on 14 hours of this blue screen with the spinning wheel/symbol. Anyone?

  • Blue Screen of death after BEFW11S4 firmware update.

I just updated my firmware for my BEFW11S4 v.4 router. Now every 5-10 minutes when I am on the internet I will get a blue screen of death containing the error "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" I did some searching and really came with no soultion. I just system restored to about a week ago and it did not work. I'm running Windows XP. Any suggestions?
(Edited post for guideline compliance. Thanks!)

i don't think this is a router issue...i believe it's a hardware issue...this error occured when computer is not getting sufficient memory, drivers are not installed correctly or due to invalid driver installation of any devices installed on the computer...to just isolate the problem try connecting computer directly to the modem and check are you are getting a same error message or not and let me know.

  • Blue Screen of Death After RAW Compatibility Update

My friend updated her 13" Black MacBook yesterday, specifically the "Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.3". After a reboot, she got the Apple "Blue Screen of Death", with no login window showing. Looking at system.log, there's a section that looks to be the culprit (this began after restarting due to the install of the update):
Nov 7 13:55:29 Philbert /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow[31]: Login Window Application Started
    Nov 7 13:55:30 Philbert /usr/sbin/ocspd[53]: starting
Nov 7 13:55:35 Philbert kernel[0]: display: Not usable
    Nov 7 13:55:35 Philbert com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.WindowServer[50]): Exited abnormally: Hangup
Nov 7 13:55:35 Philbert com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.WindowServer): Throttling respawn: Will start in 6 seconds
    Nov 7 13:55:42 Philbert com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.WindowServer[64]): Exited abnormally: Hangup
Nov 7 13:55:42 Philbert com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.WindowServer): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

    Nov 7 13:56:02 Philbert com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.WindowServer[70]): Exited abnormally: Hangup
Here are some things I've observed/tried, many from sources via the Internet:
    - I'm able to login in single-user mode
    - I'm not able to login in Safe Mode (hangs on white screen with Apple logo)
    - I've tried booting off the 10.5 install DVD and running Disk Utility - verify/repair disk, this comes back ok. However, if I try to verify/repair permissions, it runs for about 10 - 20 mins then freezes. I let the frozen process run overnight (10-12 hours) and no feedback. I can move the mouse, but I cannot select anything.
    - When the laptop is booted and on the blue screen, I can connect to it via AFP
    - I've tried manually changing the permissions of "/", by doing - chmod 775 /; chmod 1775 /;
    - I've tried removing the com.apple.WindowServer.plist and com.apple.loginscreen.plist files in case they were corrupted by the update
    - I tried running the "installer" command to re-install the update package from the command line. I run it with the "verbose" flags, I get no output and the process hangs.
Since I can connect via AFP I figure I'll be backing the data up and re-installing OS X. Pretty lame though, considering this failure was caused by running a Software Update. Anyone have a last minute suggestion for me before I go down that path?
I have the full system.log if anyone is curious!
    Cheers!

  • IPhone 5s screen is flickering after trying to update to iOS 7.1.2

I have an iPhone 5s about a year old. Today I started an update to iOS 7.1.2. The first issue was that it froze on the white screen with the black logo and the progress bar. For about 30 minutes it was stuck on 50% progress. It was at this point that I unplugged the phone and forced shutdown by holding the lock and the home button simultaneously. When I started it back up I noticed flickering around the edge of the screen. I have found that when I turn the brightness down the flickering goes away but I wanted to know if anyone has had success solving this flickering issue.
    Thanks for reading
    iPhone 5s
    iOS 7.1.2

What you need to do is isolate whether or not this is a Software or Hardware issue.
Plug your device into your computer and hold the sleep/wake button and the home button at the same time. after roughly 10 seconds the screen will go black. at this point, release the sleep/wake button but keep holding down the home button. You will get a prompt from your computer in iTunes saying that a phone in Recovery Mode has been detected. Go ahead and restore your device. After the restore completes, your device will be fully updated and have fresh software. This process will determine if the issue is Software or Hardware related. If the issue is still present then it looks like you definitely have a hardware issue.
The good news is, Since the iPhone 5s hasn't even been out for a year yet, you are still covered under Apple's 1 year Limited Warranty. With this being said, if you make a Genius Bar appointment for the Apple Store closest to you, they will be able to help you. iPhone 5s's aren't able to receive display replacements either, so you will actually end up getting a whole new device. (This is all assuming there are no cracks or liquid damage to your device, and if they don't fix the issue in another way, of course)
Regardless, I would probably go down to an Apple Store if possible.
    Best of luck!
    Cheers, Jon

  • Tried to upgrade my iPhone 4 to 5.1 and now it is  stuck in "plug into itunes mode" after trying to update to iOs 5.1 and receiving error (1).

Tried to upgrade my iPhone 4 to 5.1 and now it is  stuck in "plug into itunes mode" but will not recover when I plug it in. It is coming up as "unkown error (1)". Is there anything I can do?
Also, is there any way to recover pictures I have not yet backed up? They should be on iTunes, but do not show up when I plug the phone in or otherwise.
Is there any hope in saving this phone or is my best bet contacting Verizon or Apple to overnight me a new one?

    From iPhoneWiki:
Try changing the USB port (the back one of chassis is better) and restart computer.
The installed version of iTunes may also be too old. Update iTunes.
Also put your iPhone in DFU mode when doing the above and restore. It's a software error.

  • Iphone 5S stuck on "connect to itunes menu" after installing new update!!!! HELP

So I'll make this simple. I hadn't updated neither my 5S nor my itunes for a while so I decided to do both of them together after doing my monthly backup. I did it whent on well. Then the phone restarted and now it shows the connect to itunes button (the itunes sign and the charger cable below it). My Itunes does not recognise my phone. My phone was on at the time of the restart and its the first time I update my phone like this. Usually I just do it from the settings menu in the phone. Please tell me how to easily fix it! Thanks so much.
    -Del

Thank you for all that... But I tried everything! I checked everthying on these lists, I even reinstalled my itunes. And now I have the same problem. It still doesn't show any sign of being there on itunes. But each time I reconnect it to my computer, my computer makes the connecting usb sound. So it sees it but doesn't recongnise/display it.
Another thing, when I wanted to import pics and vids to my pc, when i'd plug my phone it, it would open a little window asking how I wanted to open it. But just before all this happened the window didn't show up so I had to put the 5 videos I wanted to get to my computer trough youtube.

  • PowerBook Stuck at Blue Screen?

Hi there, I have a old Powerbook G4 15" thats having the common blue screen with cursor on startup error. Since then, Ive wipe OSX off and has been using Linux on this powerbook for some time and it works fine and i always though the blue screen issue is just a normal software issue. Recently, i decided to reformat it back to OSX 10.5, the installation went on smoothly and it completed without any issues. After rebooting, it stucks a the "blue screen with cursor" again. Heres what ive tried and some facts.
    - Reseted PRAM
    - Reseted PMU
    - Reformatted the HDD
    - Boot in Normal Mode and it stucks at blue screen v cursor
    - Verbose Mode shows no signs of errors and it continues to blue screen n sits there.
    - Boot in Safe Mode and it works
    - Works perfectly fine with Linux
    - HDD tested OK
    - RAM tested OK
    - Ran Disk Utility to check for permission errors.
    - Tried removing Airport card.
    - DVD drive removed (after installation)
    - Was able to boot from 10.5 Installation DVD
    - Can't do AHT (Apple Hardware Test) as i do not have the original DVDs
    - Warranty is obviously over.
Does anyone has any suggestions for me? Thanks!!

15-inch PowerBook G4s with 1.5 and 1.67Ghz processors had a serious logic board fault that caused one RAM slot to fail. Use "About this Mac" to see if all the RAM installed is recognized, or remove one RAM module at a time and see it the computer runs properly on the other module.

  • 10.6.8 update stuck on blue screen... 4 hours and counting

Upon selecting automatic software update my system seems stuck on blue screen with spinning grey gear.  How long should I tolerate this (going on 4 hours now) before attempting to do something?
I can access the hard drive of this computer from others on my local network and am able to copy files from it.  I'm wondering if I should try to grab all that is valuable to me before anything worse happens.
    Advise?

If your data is not backed up copy any important documents you can from your Mac's startup drive.
Once you are done copying your data, use the power switch to turn off your Mac and disconnect everything except a wired keyboard/mouse and monitor. Start up in safe mode by holding the shift key down right after you hear the startup chime. Keep holding down the shift key until you see the Apple Logo and spinning gear.
Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode Mac
OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
Safe mode will do some maintenance routines and checks/repairs the disk if needed so it will take quite a lot longer than normal to boot. Once your Mac boots restart normally. It will take a little longer than normal to boot but not as long as booting in safe mode.
If things don't work as expected install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo

  • Why does my iPod keep crashing and get stuck on the apple screen?

My iPod has crashed and gotten stuck on the apple screen multiple times now, I think three or four times. I take really good care of it and charge it alot. It's a generation 5 32 gig, but I have no idea how to fix it! I really want to save my pictures and contacts and whatnot so it is really annoying when it happens!!! Any help would be considered! Thankyou for any input!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
