Windows 8 laptop won't start on my Toshiba laptop

My Toshiba satellite laptop , model : C55t-A5222 . It won't load windows 8.1. I updated some software and now Windows won't start. The computer goes straight to automatic repair. I would like Windows back so I can use Excel.

Satellite C55T-A5222
You need to reach the recovery environment.
If you have another Windows 8.x computer with the same bitness, you can create a repair thumbdrive.
If not, according to Microsoft trying and failing to boot several times will eventually take you to the recovery environment instead. According to Toshiba, you can also get there by pressing F2 or the zero key on powering up. If you have completely shut down Windows 8, Toshiba says you can get there using F12 to reach the UEFI boot menu and then selecting HDD Recovery. Please try these out many, many times and let us know what happens.
If all else fails, you can download a Windows 8.1 installation media, which will enable to to access the recovery environment.

  • What can I do if my Windows 7 or Windows Vista laptop won't start?

I have joined many forums in my short computer life. This is by far the best forum that I have been a part of. It really up sets me when people come on here and complain before they have even given any of the staff or advisors a chance to help them with their problem. What can I do if my Windows 7 or Vista laptop won't start.

This is a great tutorial. Step by step to get your PC up and running and a lot more.Seriosly, if you can't follow this tutorial, you shouldn't have a computer. There will times when this won't work and you will have hardware problems. There are some great people here on the forum that can help you find those problems also. I have tried all these recovery options; they work, and I love my Toshiba laptop. That's why I donate my time to help and that's why others here donate their time. I'm creating this message because I know Google will pick it up. Google picks up every thing

Hi!! You should try the recovery feature in W7. Some times it can be accessed through safe mode. On my model it's easier to use the system repair disc. You can find out how to create that here.

You can learn how to use the system repair disc here.

These are basic things you need to know if your going to own a Toshiba laptop.
PS Some day I'm going to convince staff to make a sticky of these things; which would cut their work in half, but then I wouldn't have any thing to do.
Here's what the recovery looks like. You have 5 options to help you. The Dos option can really help if you are familiar with Dos. In Dos you can do a chkdsk---sfc /scannow--- and a whole lot more. Start with the Repair option first and work your way down.

  • Windows 7 Won't Start Up from Boot Camp

I got a new 21.5" iMac and set up a boot camp partition for a Windows 7 64-bit installation. It worked. I installed the latest boot camp drivers into the Windows 7, which was wonderful because it fixed the display to match my iMac's specs. Then I installed the latest Parallels 5 and had it recognize that Windows 7 system, and have been using it without problem. But I tried this evening to use boot camp to start up the Windows 7 system by itself and although I got a choice of Mac OS or Windows via the option-startup process, and selected the Windows startup, Windows 7 won't start up that way. I just get a black screen with a blinking white horizontal line in the upper-left corner. I keep waiting but it never gets past this. Tried turning it off and starting again, still no luck. Booted back into Mac side and Parallels VM of the installation still works.
Any help appreciated. I should still be able to boot into Windows 7 straight using boot camp, no?

I should add that I just installed 8GB of RAM to the 4GB the iMac came with. Possibly now that the total machine has a 12GB of RAM the Windows 7 system is confused and can't start up?

  • Windows 7 won't start.

I have a mac pro and use to boot camp to use windows 7.  Windows 7 won't start and it's stuck in a loop.  How can I prevent windows 7 from booting and get snow leopard to boot?
    thanks for your help!

    Hi,
reboot your Mac while holding down the Alt/Option key to get a Selection Screen on which you can choose to boot into OSX.
Once in OSX go to System Preferences - Startup Volume and set your OSX to be the default.

  • I have tried to update from Leopard to Snow Leopard using disk. New OS wouldn't load and now laptop won't start at all

I have tried to update from Leopard to Snow Leopard using disk. New OS wouldn't load and now laptop won't start at all. Simply get the Apple logo and the clock below and then after about 10 mins the laptop switched itself off. The Snow Leopard  disk is a brand new family edition. Error message when attempting to install was that "this software cannot be installed on this disk".

Thanks Fred, but I've tried '''ALL''' that already.
I '''THINK''' I might have found the problem - the Profiles folder has been locked by inherited properties from the levels above. I have had to go all the way up to my User folder and reset ALL the properties from there down to be unlocked so that I could remove the prefs.js file so that it could be recreated on the next launch of FF. Exactly why my User folder is locked in such a way as to stop me/FF making changes when I have been able to alter preferences at will in the past, I don't know ...
So far, so good. I have since done a complete shutdown and when I restarted this morning, FF seems to be behaving itself ...

  • My laptop won't start up, I want to back it up via firewire, but it is filevault protected. How do I login and turn off vilevault?

My laptop won't start up, I want to back it up via firewire, but it is filevault protected. How do I login and turn off vilevault? When I connect to another computer via firewire and try to transfer files, finder freezes.

To use FireWire target disk mode
Make sure that the target computer is turned off.
If you are using an Apple portable computer such as a PowerBook or MacBook as the target computer, plug in its AC power adapter.
Use a FireWire cable to connect the target computer to a host computer. The host computer can be powered on.
Start up the target computer and immediately press and hold down the T key until the FireWire icon appears. The hard disk of the target computer should become available to the host computer and will likely appear on desktop. (If the target computer is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, you can also open System Preferences, choose Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. Restart the computer and it will start up in Target Disk Mode.)
When you are finished copying files, locate the target computer's hard disk icon on the desktop of the host computer and drag it to the Trash or choose Eject (or Put Away) from the File menu.
Press the target computer's power button to turn it off.
    Unplug the FireWire cable.

  • Help! Laptop won't start up- startup repair goes to black screen!

Hi! Just wondering if anyone can help me with my toshiba laptop C650-152! I was online yesterday when my laptop froze and in the end i had to turn it off by cutting the power source! Today I have tried to turn it on and It keeps going to a black screen with white writing which asks if I want to Start it normally or do startup repair! If I press start normally it gets me to the windows start up screen (with the coloured logo) but then gets stuck there. If i press start up repair it goes to a black screen with a White mouse cursor and gets stuck there too! I can use a laptop just fine but am pretty clueless when it comes to technical matters so if anyone could help explain what I should do (in laymens terms) it would be much appreciated!! Thanks in advance for your help! Beth

To burn the disc from an ISO file, Beth, you may need a third-party utility depending on the version of Windows. I use the free BurnCDCC burning program from here.
       TeraByte Unlimited Freeware
To use the disc do I just turn my laptop on..?
Something like this. Turn the computer on, load the disc, turn the computer off, start it again and then press F12 to get the boot-priority men, select the optical drive, follow the instructions (like choose a language and a Windows installation), and you're on your way to the Windows Recovery Environment.
Then will a menu appear so I can choose to do a system restore or do I have to search for it? Finally will doing a 'system restore' delete any of my saved data such as photos/music/uni work?
All that was answered at the link I already gave you.
What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?
Click Show All. Under System Restore, click the links What is System Restore and System Restore: frequently asked questions. No data files are disturbed by System Restore.

  • G60-533CL Laptop won't start. HELP!

    Hi, all -
My kids received a G60-533CL laptop with Windows 7 for Christmas.   While playing Zoo Tycoon on it this afternoon, the computer suddenly shut down.  When the power button is pressed, the little power light (middle lightning bolt LED on the bottom left of the keyboard) flashes three times, then nothing.  Won't start at all.  I've tried holding the button in for 10 seconds, removing the battery, and checked power connections.  I can't get it to start.
    Help!
    Thanks,

  • Satellite L650D-10J - Windows 7 won't start

    Hi,
    I have a Toshiba Satellite L650D-10J, Windows 7 64Bit, 4GB RAM and it won't start Windows 7. It starts and then you see Toshiba logo startup etc. and then it goes to black and it loads up Windows Bootmanager with the following message ;
+A problem to your computer occurred while communicating with a device that is connected.+
+This error may be caused by an external storage device such as an external USB drive, the device while in use, or damaged hardware such as a hard disk or CD-ROM drive disconnect that is damaged. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.+
+contact the hardware manufacturer if you still see this error.+
    +Status: 0xc00000e9+
    +Information: An unexpected I / O error occurred.+
(it was translated out of dutch so there are some sentences that aren't correct.)
I've tried downloading a Windows 7 recovery disc, burnt it on DVD. It works I'll get to choose to set it back when it was working correct (I get an error) or use a Windows 7 from disc (doesn't work). And if I start in safe mode I can see that it stops and freezes at file; disk.sys
    Anyone an idea?
    Greetings,

    Hello
And have you connected external USB device as the error message says? If yes remove all USB devices and try to start your notebook again.
Fact is if you cant start in safe mode your OS is muddled up and the only option to get rid of this is reinstalling Windows.
Are you using the preinstalled Windows 7 version from Toshiba? If yes go into advanced boot menu of Windows pressing F8 key where you can select safe mode, etc. and choose Repair my computer option. Then select Toshiba HDD recovery and factory settings will be restored. Also check this article about HDD recovery:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm
If HDD recovery doesnt work you need an original Toshiba recovery disk. If you didnt create this disk just order a new one here:

  • Updates failed and the laptop won't start up

I started to download the Apple updates today and half way through the laptop just close down. It now won't start up again.
It goes throught the Login window and sticks on the bluw screen with the cursor static in the top left corner.
Can anybody help with a suggestion?

    Graham M.,
In order to resolve your problem, please provide additional info.
    1) Were you on battery or AC power?
    2) Are you using dial-up, DSL, or Cable broadband?
    3) Are you connected to the Internet by Ethernet cable, Airpt. Extreme/Expr?
    4) What version of Panther .... 10.3.9?
In the meantime, completely shut-down the PowerBook and disconnect the AC power and carefully remove the battery; unplug ALL power sources to any of the above (2) and (3).
Wait about 20 minutes, then reinstall the battery and plug-in the AC line to the PB.
    a) Insert your Panther install disc #1
    b) Press the power button, while holding down the C key until the Install window appears.
    c) From the Apple Menu Bar select Disk Utility and run Repair Disk only. Do NOT Repair Permissions from the disc; it will be outdated.
    d) If RED text is displayed, run the Repair Disk a second time even if the repair was completed.
    e) After the second run, eject the Install disc and RESTART the PB from the Apple contextual menu.
    f) Using Disk Utility (from Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility) run Repair Permissions.
If everything looks OK at this point and you have the above peripherals:
reconnect power to any external modem ... wait 5 minutes, reconnect power to the Airport ... wait 5 minutes, reconnect any Ethernet cable.
Assuming your good to go, update to 10.3.9 from the COMBO updater on the Apple Support Downloads web site and run Repair Permissions again.
Consider installing a very good maintenance program like Macaroni.

I hope all this helps; let us know.

  • Windows Vista won't start or install - firmware or EFI problem?

I am running Snow Leopard on a 2.4GHz MacBook Pro, late 08 - early 09 model. I have been using boot camp to run Vista for the past year with no problem. This morning, I tried to start up Vista and it wasn't working. I got the option key screen to choose between OSX and Vista, but after choosing vista, the cursor blinks once and I get a black screen. The computer is quiet and nothing seems to be running.
At first I thought it was a boot camp problem. So I went into OSX, de-partitioned the drive, and repartitioned it. I then stuck the Vista install disk in, and clicked through the boot camp assistant to reinstall. The computer restarted to begin the reinstall process, but instead of starting the install disk, it did the same thing - a single blip of cursor, and then a black screen.
I'm not technically savvy, but that seems like it's not a Windows problem, but a firmware or EFI problem. The computer will run OSX, but it won't run boot camp and it won't start from a CD-ROM. The only other steps I've taken are to run Software Update and the Disk Utility from Safari. Neither helped. I'm out of warranty and would love to be able to fix it without spending tons of money. Any help is appreciated.

open terminal, run the following command:
    sudo gpt -r show -l /dev/disk0
(press return, enter admin password, press return again)
output should look something like this:
    Betsy7:~ kj$ sudo gpt -r show -l /dev/disk0
    Password:
gpt show: /dev/disk0: Suspicious MBR at sector 0
    start size index contents
    0 1 MBR
    1 1 Pri GPT header
    2 32 Pri GPT table
    34 6
    40 409600 1 GPT part - "EFI System Partition"
    409640 316879664 2 GPT part - "RAPTOR"
    317289304 262144
    317551448 200889128 3 GPT part - "RAPTOR2"
    518440576 262144
    518702720 67287033 4 GPT part - "XP"
    585989753 82582
    586072335 32 Sec GPT table
    586072367 1 Sec GPT header
    The first line:
"gpt show: /dev/disk0: Suspicious MBR at sector 0"
should be identical to mine. If the "Suspicious MBR"
line is missing, then it is a GPT problem, which indicates
that the MBR information is missing or more likely corrupt.
also the second and third lines will read:
    start size index contents
    0 1 PMBR
    instead of:
    start size index contents
    0 1 MBR
If the MBR info in the GPT partition is corrupt or missing,
then (obviously) Windows won't be bootable.
The only tool reliably capable (that I know of) of repairing (rebuilding) the GPT/EFI
without wiping off all partitions and repartitioning the drive
    is iPartition:
    http://www.coriolis-systems.com/iPartition.php
The command line program "gpt" is incomplete, so use
    it at your own risk:
    BUGS
The development of the gpt utility is still work in progress. Many necessary features
are missing or partially implemented. In practice this means that the manual page,
supposed to describe these features, is farther removed from being complete or useful.
As such, missing functionality is not even documented as missing. However, it is believed
that the currently present functionality is reliable and stable enough that this tool can be used
without bullet-proof footware if one thinks one does not make mistakes.
