Windows 8 mail/calendar/people apps

How do you sync a Nokia phone with the new native Windows metro apps, using Nokia Suite?

Well as far as this goes;
'It still appears to me that there's no way to get a Nokia phone (Lumia or not) to keep local data on the phone and a Windows 8 Metro app in sync without the use of cloud services - wierd!'
That's with Microsoft and not Nokia obviously
And sure, you are free to choose to use whatever you use, but you will have to live with it's restrictions one of which is you can only have one AES account on Nokia Belle.
Lastly your system admin reasoning is rather funny. First of your cloudservices holding your Microsoft account and Skydrive data are not 'publicly' hosted. You may be a system admin, but you have a lot to learn on security and how these services work. You are not talking about 'a server' here to begin with and your data is not available to any system admin in any readable form. If they are able to get to your data at all it will be encrypted and they will not be able to get any usable information from it. If I put encrypted data on your server you may be able to copy the file but you will not be able to see what contents are in the file nor be able to decipher it.
Again, getting your house broken in to and your PC with all your data stolen is much more likely to happen then anyone hacking the Microsoft servers where your account data is.
And you can actually manage the synced data locally just fine. If I sync with my Microsoft account and drop the connection the data is still on  my phone or PC and I can change or remove it as well as add new data. When the connection is re-stablished it will sync the changes and subsequently so will all other devices or PC syncing with the same Microsoft account.
So when I am in the USA and add a contact there this contact will sync to my home PC as soon as I get home, turn it on and log in.
Your PC is not the central hub here, your Microsoft account is and everything syncs through it.
The only time you need 'remote management tools is when you first introduce data from a source which is not able to sync to your Microsoft account, such as the contact list on your N8. ONce synced all clients will update and use that data as well as be able to edit it.
But this is horribly getting off topic and out of context. I hope you enjoy your N8 for as long as you can but do not blame the world for going on and leaving old technology behind.

  • How do I get the Windows 8.1 Mail/Calendar/People apps to connect to my company's Exchange server?

I have a Surface Pro 2 on my organization's domain, and while I have Outlook 2013 running fine on the desktop side, I'd really like to connect the Mail, Calendar, and People apps to my work Exchange account if possible.
First, a little background on my company's Exchange configuration, which is "extra secure" variety. Obviously, I'm using generic placeholders here. My email address is
[email protected], but our actual Exchange server is exchange.internaldomain.com, and my actual username is lasfir (first 3 of last name, first 3 of first name). I'm not 100% clear on our certificate process,
but from what I understand from talking with our Systems team, it's a self-signed certificate.
Anyway, when I try to add my account, I get the usual email address and password prompts. I enter
[email protected] and my password, which don't resolve. The app returns "we couldn't find settings for
[email protected] Provide us with more info and we'll try connecting again."
So I add the internaldomain as the domain and lasfir as my username and click Connect again. This time it returns "we still couldn't find settings for
[email protected] Providing this additional info may help. If you don't know this information, search online or check with your provider."
So I enter exchange.internaldomain.com as my server address and click Connect again. This time it returns "to connect to this account, you need a valid certificate on this PC. Contact your system administrator for more info." That tells me at least
it's finding my Exchange server, but I have no idea about the certificate thing. I reached out to our Exchange admin and our Systems guys, and they just weren't sure about the certificate process.
As one of the few people in my organization running Windows 8x, I'm a bit of a guinea pig for stuff like this. Any advice how to get this working?

It doesn't sound like the Exchange environment is configured in a manner to support these types of clients very well.  Have your Exchange team look at the following
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2012/11/26/supporting-windows-8-mail-in-your-organization.aspx
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/10/18/supporting-windows-mail-8-1-in-your-organization.aspx
From the latter article: "Communications applications can connect to a corporate Exchange service
configured to require certificate-based authentication. User authentication certificates can be provisioned to Windows 8.1 devices by administrators or end-users can browse to certificate and install to user certificate storage."
    You might want to:
Ask your Exchange team the public URLs (ExternalURL) for Exchange OWA & ActiveSync
Open the OWA URL in your Internet Explorer from your Surface
If you get a Certificate warning, open the certificate and select Install (NOTE: You may have to install the entire certificate chain).  Your desktop support team should be able to support this because it is the SAME process for standard Windows 8x
    desktops.
Confirm that you can open OWA on your surface with no more certificate or security warnings.  NOTE: The Exchange team will have to configured OWA properly.
Once confirmed, repeat the same steps for the activesync URL that they provided.
When done, try using the OWA OR ActiveSync URL value in your settings of your Mail client.
    Good Luck

  • The iPhone 3 and Windows Live Mail Calendar

I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer.
    1. Is the Windows Live Mail Calendar compatible with the iPhone?
    2. If not, why not? Are there any plans for this to happen?
    3. If they are, how do I sync the two?
    Thanks!

Yes, it is compatible and it syncs over the air.

  • Setting up an account for Windows Live Mail, Calendar and Contacts

    Hey guys,
Very recently my university mail changed from the regular webmail to Windows Live.
    The question is :
How do I set up an account for emails, calendars and contacts in my mail.app?
Also do I have to use entourage for this purpose or will the mail app be able to figure it all?
    Thanks

You will need your email server addresses for the incoming and outgoing mail servers, your email username and password, and whether you need to use login security, POP or IMAP or Exchange account type, and any relevant port numbers. Then for Mail it's simply creating a new mail account and providing the above information where requested or needed. For assistance with the use of Mail select Mail Help from Mail's Help menu and search for relevant keywords. Same with iCal. In iCal Preferences click on the Accounts icon to configure an Exchange account.
My guess is that if you ask at computer services at your university they can provide the web page at which you will find configuration instructions for using different email clients.
I am not at all familiar with Windows Live but it appears that it may be a browser based information system meaning you may not be able to access it from Mail or iCal. Again discuss this with the IT people at your university.

  • Trouble with Outlook 2013 sync w/ Windows Live Mail calendar

I am facing some problem with OL2013 and Live Calender.
    1. I have live and one other email (other mail) account configured in OL13
    2. In other mail account I right click on email, select move ==> copy to other folder and select live calender to assign the calender time.
    3. I can see the appointment added to live calender in OL13 but can see the same on Online live calender. it is not getting sync correctly.
    can anyone help please?

    Hi
I have a similar problem but it also goes for 1-one item
I have followed the MS instructions for setting up Outlook to Connect With Hotmail which gives me 2 calendars in Outlook.
The first calendar is the original one, I will Call it the initial one in the following description of the problem.
The second one is the Connected Hotmail calendar With my Hotmail login account name as name.
    Problem description
If I copy an appointment from the Initial Calendar in Outlook (Outlook-datafile) to the Hotmail Connected calendar in Outlook it does not syncronize. The reason for this is that I Accept the appointment on the Hotmail Connected Calendar. If I do not Accept
it but just copy it Works. However this option does not include any updates on the appointment as they will only be visible on the Initial Outlook Calendar.
Any appointments I add in the Hotmail calendar is syncronized to my mobile except the one as described above!
    How can we fix this?

  • Syncing iphone calendar with Windows Live Mail

Hi guys - I just upraded to Windows 7 and I'm looking to see if it's possible to sync the calendar with the Windows Live Mail calendar? I'm thinking the only option at this time is MS Outlook, but just thought I'd ask. I searched and read through 3 other similar questions on here but didn't find any answer, hence the new post. Thanks!

Microsoft copied Google and now supports accessing a Hotmail or Windows Live Mail account as an Exchange account with the iPhone's Mail app. This provides Push access for received messages and for syncing contacts and calendar events over the air with the account on your iPhone.
For syncing calendar events direct with an application on your computer via the iTunes sync process, you need Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010.
I understand your second statement about the needing Outlook - but I'm trying to reconcile it with your first paragraph - there is support for calendar events over the air between Windows Live and iPhone? So it can be done, just not physically through syncing via iTunes?

Spartan crashes sometimes too, but not like these. These can't even start.
Funny thing is that tech support app crashes as well.

There is a known issue with the people app but none for the others .  You may want to uninstall the mail calender, people apps using powershell as they did in 41 and then re-install them. You may want to run a system file check to verify the state of
    the OS
Please run a system file check (SFC) & DISM if you are on win 8 or higher

my calendar isn't working sync anymore with my Windows live mail calendar since the update of ios8.

    Hi Cnoc,
Welcome to BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Just to clarify, how did you synchronize your Windows Live Contacts with your BlackBerry?
Windows Live is not a supported organizer to sync with using the Blackberry Desktop Software. This is why its not appearing as an option when you're setting up synchronization. http://bbry.lv/lZWDzG

    Hi
    Can you please HELP??
I recently had to change my hard drive for my laptop (Sony Vaio). The IT guy replaced my HDD and ghost all my information
from old to new drive. Everything works perfect except for Windows Live Mail.
When I open WLM I get this error:
“Windows Live Mail could not be started. Closing Windows Live Mail. Your calendar contains corrupt data that is forcing
Windows Live Mail to close. (0x8E5E0247)”
I have since done the following:
    PROBLEM SOLUTION 1:
     1. Close Windows Live Mail and any other Windows Live programs.
     2. Click Start (then Run for
Windows XP), paste the following path below and press Enter:
    %Localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Calendars
    3. Rename the folder of the account you use to sign in to Windows Live Mail to
sync your calendar (ex. rename [email protected] to [email protected]).
    4. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
     5. Launch Windows Live Mail again.
THIS DID NOT WORK SO I DID THE FOLLOWING:
    PROBLEM SOLUTION 2:
I removed WLM (uninstall) and reinstalled and still nothing.
    PROBLEM SOLUTION 3:
I also renamed the WLM folder and reinstalled WLM, then deleted the new WLM folder and still nothing.
    PROBLEM SOLUTION 4:
I also tried to import my emails from WLM to Microsoft Outlook but I only have a copy of my mails from the directory.
I do not have an EXPORT copy saved anywhere. Is there any way I can export the WLM to Microsoft outlook?
PLEASE HELP I AM AT WITS END.

I have had many problems with permissions on Windows Vista, 7,8 & 81.1.  It is usually after an update or installation, especially one that requires a reboot to finish (some AVG, Windows Live, Windows Updates, etc).  Once File(s), Folder(s)
and Registry Key(s) permissions are screwed up, it can take days to work them out if ever.
After having spent several hours on a clients PC and online forums with this problem.  I transferred her user profile with a free program called
Transwiz (run as Administrator) to a zip file on the HDD.  I renamed her user in manage User Accounts to "Username old".  I then ran Transwiz again to restore the profile but telling it to create a new user using the original Username.
After it completed restoring the profile, I logged out of "Username old" and logged in to Username and all wass well, I only needed to supply the email password which is not transferred.  When you move profile data, all the old permissions
have to be removed and <st1:personname w:st="on">new</st1:personname> permissions added so the data and files belong to the <st1:personname w:st="on">new</st1:personname> user.  This cleared up all the permission
    problems.

    I am fed up!!!
Apparently Nokia is not listening to their customers and instead diverts them to a damn Nielsen forum to write down all their frustration and needs again and again.
Why is it so complicated to provide an easy syncing tool between Windows Live Mail calendar and the N8 and C7 or E52 phones i.e. their built-in calendars (e.g..). Yes Nokia, I have bought all three phones within a time span of 5 months and have NOW FINALLY DECIDED to end my Nokia-sympathy due to lack of listening support. It comes as a joke that the internet is full of grief towards this standard problem and that none seems capable to do something. Apparently none wants to do anything as the whole situation looks like a "friendly agreement" between Nokia and Microsoft. They call it Marketing, I call it short-term-wannabe-software- regulation-policy as an aim to support, e.g. Outlook!!!
Goodbye Nokia. I'll turn to Apple! Please excuse my frustration

What you have experienced, though annoying, doesn't necessarily mean someone has hacked your account, though if you were finding that you were blocked because the sending limit had been reached that might indicate that you had been hacked.
What can happen is that when people receive emails which appear to come from their own address but they haven't sent they naturally tend to be concerned: however it's most unlikely that anyone has hacked their account, they've just been targeted by one of two common spammers' techniques: both arise because it's all too easy to forge the 'from' address on messages to be something other than the real one.
There are two methods. One is that the sender has forged the 'from' address to be the same as the 'to' address (so other people will see it coming from themselves, not you), presumably in the hope of confusing spam filters. It's harmless, if extremely annoying. Delete it (never ever answer spam or try to unsubscribe from it), and you don't need to be worried about it.
The other problem is that a spammer is forging your address as the 'from' address on a whole batch of messages. The first thing you hear about this is when you start getting bounce messages because the spam has been sent to non-existent addresses and is being bounced to you. There's no point at all in responding to it. It's infuriating but normally stops after a bit as they move on to another forged address.
There isn't really anything you can do about it: closing the account isn't really worth the hassle unless you are totally swamped, because you will have to tell everyone your new address. Apple can't really do any more than they already are about spam. However changing your password on general principles is a good idea.

  • Possible to synchronyse Iphone calendar with Window Mail calendar ?

I am using Windows Mail (default mail software delivered with Window Vista)on my computer and would like to synchronyse Window Mail calendar with my newly acquired Iphone 4. Unfortunately, calendar synchronisation settings proposed by Itunes don't seem to recognize Windows Mail (only Outlook proposed). Is it possible to perform such synchronization with Window Mail and if yes what is the process ?
In addition, would Outlook Express be proposed in the synchronization settings if loaded on the computer ?
Many thank in advance for your answers.

    No.
Syncing calendar events is supported with Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 along with syncing contacts and notes.
The iPhone does not sync with Outlook Express or with the Outlook email client. The iPhone supports syncing contacts with the address book app used by Outlook Express with XP, or with the address book app used by Windows Mail with Vista and Windows 7.

I use Touchdown from Nitodesk for my work email. Its a little pricey, but it works with your companys OWA (Outlook Web Access) portal. They do have a 30 day trial that they insist that you try to make sure it will work for you before you shell out any money for the app. It syncs the Calendar, notes, tasks, emails etc.
It has a discovery feature that it will figure out what it needs to configure. All you need to provide is how you log into OWA (Username/password, website) and the program does the rest. It works very well for me.
No I am not employed by Nitrodesk. I only use the program. There was no need to ask my IT people to set anything up for me.
Give it a try, it might work as well for you too.
One day I will have to give this app a try, I am just use to configuring my device to sync without a 3rd party app but I have heard that Touchdown seems to be the best thing going to setup a corp sync process..

  • Bizarre issue: Missing only 3 of 400 Facebook friends from Windows 8 People app

    Hello!
I have a bizarre issue with the Windows 8 people app that I'm trying to resolve.
I have successfully linked my Facebook account (as well as Gmail, Skype, and Twitter accounts) to my Windows 8 people app.
The app successfully imports 99% (>400) of my Facebook friends, except for **the three Facebook friends with whom I interact the most***. I do see their contacts imported for Gmail and Skype, but there is no Facebook entry for them (so I cannot link their
contact entry to their Facebook account).
This is a bizarre issue, especially because the app seemingly works perfectly for all but my closest friends. I guarantee I am Facebook friends with these "missing" people.
Any ideas? I've tried unlinking *all* accounts, then re-linking. No luck. I have tried displaying all contacts, or only Facebook / Skype / Gmail contacts.
I'm running a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro.
    cheers

I noticed that some of my colleagues are missing from the People app, which syncs to our Exchange 2010 server. It didn't take too long to figure out what was going on. In at least two cases, the People app has "merged" the records of two different individuals.
I haven't done any testing to determine the pattern because in my case it might be a perfect storm: In one department, we have two Lauren's and two Mark's. But in the People app, only one Lauren and one Mark appear. But each of those records contain much of
their namesake's information, along with their own. E.g., in the People app, the sole Lauren has two e-mail addresses, two mailing addresses, two home phones, two mobile phones, three work phones (the department line plus each of their personal lines), even
two titles. There is only one photo and one first name and one last name. Mark follows same pattern.
Note that this problem occurs both on the People App running on Windows 8 Pro (on a regular laptop) and on the Surface. (As as aside, this problem does *not* appear on a Windows Phone 7.5.)
To get to the bottom of this issue I did a test. I created a new contact in Outlook with the same first name as a current record, but other than the first name, this new record had no other fields in common with the old record. In the People app, the new
record appeared as expected. As soon as I added gave the new record the same mobile phone number as the old contact, the records merged in the People app. Surprisingly, changing the mobile number on the new contact did not "unmerge" the records. Now the old
    contact has two mobile numbers.
While I have the floor, I should point out to any MS employees listening that the search function in the People app really stinks. I have 100 contacts from my company with our acronym in both the Company Name field and the e-mail address, and yet when I
search for that acronym, at best I get a few one-off records with the acronym in the first name field (e.g., our "All Staff" record). I say "at best" because for some reason, at the moment, search doesn't seem to be working at all.
For the record, in general I like the approach Microsoft is taking, and I really want the Surface and Windows 8/Windows RT to succeed. The clean look of the People app is so much better than the pseudo address book on the iPad--but it can be even better.
I'd like to see more display options (at least show the Company name under the contact in the list, and I'd like to be able to sort by First Name, Last Name or Company. And, of course, I want search to work!
    That is all.
