"Windows Authentication Mode" when SQL Server 200 and CF on different machines?
Hi All,
I am playing for two days with following problem. And still I
did not able to get rid of it.
I have installed SQL Server 2000 on machine which is my
server (windows 2003 server) and this machine is my domain
controller. I have user “ABC” user and I have added
this user in administrator group.
I have another machine where OS is Windows XP and CF 7 is
installed. I create an ODBC Connection from Administrative Tool to
my Database (windows 2003 server) successfully.
Now when I create Data Socket in Coldfusion Administrator and
when I select the my ODBC that I had created and when I Submit it
then CF admin throughs the following message.
Connection verification failed for data source: myTest
java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC
Driver][ODBC Socket][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL
Server]Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.
Please Brother, I don’t have any Clue to solve it,
Please help.
One Important thing, All this working fine if my CF, and SQL
Server are on same machine.
Best regards,
Shahid
Hi Phil Thanks,
Finally i able to configure it out..... following are the
steps...
I assume domain controller is properly configure.
Following are the steps for the machine where SQL SERVER 2000
is installed
1- We need to create Login account for your domain account in
SQL Server 2000 using Enterprise Manager.
• Right Click -> New Login
• Click to load the domain users, select any user from
your domain that will connect to your SQL Server from LAN.
Following are the steps for the machine where ColdFusion and
IIS are installed.
Step No. 1
Stop ColdFusion MX.
Backup your existing macromedia_drivers.jar file.
Unzip macromedia_drivers.zip into the same directory,
overwriting the previous
macromedia_drivers.jar.
You can download “macromedia_drivers.zip” from
following URL
http://kb.adobe.com/support/coldfusion/ts/documents/1a3c2ad0/macromedia_drivers.zip
A new file, DDJDBCAuth03.dll, which is required for Windows
Authentication, is also included in the zip file replacing the
older DDJDBCAuth.DLL.
Restart ColdFusion MX.
ColdFusion MX loads the JDBC drivers inmacromedia_drivers.jar
in the directory cf_root/lib. For example, with ColdFusion MX 7
Server Configuration on Windows installed on drive C:, this would
beC:\CFusionMX7\lib\macromedia_drivers.jar.
Then restart Machine
Step No. 2
Configure all the ColdFusion Services to “Log On
As” using the Domain User Account configured in SQL Server in
the above mentioned step.
Change the “Log On As” similar for the all other
Cold fusion services (ColdFusion MX 7 ODBC Agent, ColdFusion MX 7
ODBC Server, ColdFusion MX 7 Search Server).
Step No. 3
Restart the services; for the safe side reboot the system.
Step No. 4
Create ODBC (Control Panel -> Administrative Tool ->
Data Sources (ODBC)) using the windows NT Authentication option to
connect to database.
Step No. 5
Create Data Socket and Select the created ODBC connection in
the Drop down (ColdFusion-> Admin)
Thanks to all who participated in this discussion...
With lots of Thanks to All particular to Phil who guided me
in right direction,
Shahid

Hi,
I have installed the x64 SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with default settings and run MBSA 2.3 (using default settings too). It shows three SQL Server instances: MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS, SQLEXPRESS and SQLEXPRESS (32-bit). For the first, authentication
mode is Windows, for the rest two - mixed. Here https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/03e470dc-874d-476d-849b-c805acf5b24d/sql-mbsa-question-on-folder-permission?forum=sqlsecurity question
about such multiple instances was asked and the answer is that "MSSQL10.TEST_DB
is the instance ID for the SQL Server Database Engine of the instance, TEST_DB", so in my case, it seems that MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS is the instance ID for SQL Server Database Engine of the SQLEXPRESS instance.
I have two questions:
1) How can it be that SQL Server DB Engine instance has different authentication mode than corresponding SQL Server Instance?
2) Why 32-bit instance reported although I installed only 64-bit version?
Also, this https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/security/en-US/6b12c019-eaf0-402c-ab40-51d31dce968f/mbsa-23-reporting-sql-32bt-instance-is-running-in-mixed-mode-when-it-is-set-to-integrated?forum=MBSA question seems to be related to this
issue, but there is no answer :(.
Upd: Tried on clean Windows 8 installation and Windows 7 with the same result.Because I DO NOT want the three people who will be having access to the production SQL Server to also have access to the primary host ProductionA. Since I have to allow them to RDC into the box to manage the SQL Server, I figure why not create
a separate VM for each one of them and they can RDC into those instead.
Does this make any sense?
Any tips are greatly appreciated. The main reason for doing this is because the three people who will be accessing the box, I need to isolate each one of them and at the same time keep them off of the primary ProductionA.
Thanks for your help.
M
Hello M,
Since you dont want the 3 guys to have access to Production machine A.You can install SQL Server client .By client i mean SQL server management studio(SSMS) on there local desktop and then create login for them in SQL Server.Open port on which your SQL server
is running for three of the machines so that they can connct. Now with SSMS installed on each machine each can connect to SQL server from there own machine.
I would also like you to be cautious with giving Sysadmin privilege to all three of them ,first please note down what task they would do and then decide what rights to be provided.
Your option will also work but you need to create 3 VM for that .Which is more tedious task.
Hope this helps

Windows Authentication using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver
Hi,
I am using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver to connect to SQL Server 2000 database, can anyone tell me the connection URL for windows authentication. SQL authentication is working fine.
DataDirect has drivers for windows authentication but I am not using it.
Regards
ArupYou can't do it with the Microsoft driver. There's a free driver called jTDS that may be able to (I don't know).

HOW TO CREATE WINDOWS AUTHENTICATION USER IN SQL SERVER AFTER INSTALLING SQL SERVER 2008
I had an error while executing asp.net appcation from IIS as follows

Can the above problem be solved by CREATING WINDOWS AUTHENTICATION LOGIN FOR
'IIS APPPOOL\ASP.NET v4.0' ?
If yes, how to create the login?
If no,what is the best possible solution?
Please reply as soon as possible as i am unable to run my project which I had done in my lab,in my home system.Hi Praveen,
To fix this issue, you need to change the Identity of your website's Application Pool to use the
NetworkService account (or the less secure LocalSystem account). By default, IIS7 seems to set the Application Pools Identity to 'ApplicationPoolIdentity' instead of NetworkService or LocalSystem.
Here's a step-by-step guide for determining your websites Application Pool, then changing its Process Model Idenitty in IIS7:
1.Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manger.
2.In the Connections sidebar, drill down into Default Web Site and click on your website.
3.Now in the Actions sidebar (on right side), click on Advance Settings... In the popup box, under General you will see your Application Pool listed for your website (in my case the app pool is: ASP.NET V4.0).
4.Click Cancel... If you choose, you can change the Application Pool here, but for the sake of this example we just wanted to find out what the website's App Pool was.
Then change the app pool's (Process Model) Identity to 'NetworkService', the steps are showed as below:
1.Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manger.
2.In the Connections sidebar, click on Application Pools.
3.Now right-click on theApplication Pool that your website is using (in this case my site is using the ASP.NET v4.0 application pool), and select Advanced Settings... from the menu.
4.In the Advanced Settings pop-up box, locate the Process Model -> Identity section and click on the Application Pool Identity.
5.In the Application Pool Identity pop-up box, change the Built-in account to NetworkService (or if you want LocalSystem), then click OK, and click OK again to save your Advanced Settings changes.
Hope this helps.

Peja

Job Manger configuration when SQL Server Data base is used
Hi All,
I have worked on starting scheduler services after job manager configuration and created ibots.
But now we are using SQL Server.
In this case we are facing a problem while configuring job manager.
In SQL Server we will be having 2 types of authentication.
Windows authentication and SQL Server Authentication.
When we use both types of authentication in the job manager I am getting an error in the log files regarding authentication (NT Authentication Failed)
Can any one tell me what type authentication should be used for scheduling
Thanks
SubhashHi this problem solved
Like to say I have recreated a dsn and gave sql server authentication which worked for me.
My question is can we get uding windows authentication or only sql server works??
Can I have some solution for that
My thought if sql server authentication works then this should also work???

JDBC drivers for SQL Server 2008 and PI7.0
HI,
I have deployed the JDBC drivers (sqljdbc.jar and sqljdbc4.jar) available for the SQL Server 2008 from the microsoft website as described in the how to document for deploying and configuring JDBC and JMS adapters.
I am running a JDBC to FIle(XML) scenario. When I go and see on the RWB CC monitoring, I get this error

WRT to the SQL server the port 1433 is open on the host and there is no firewall on the PI server as well as the SQL Server. Both are on different machines.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SQL server 2014 and Sql 2012 installation on VMWare machine
Hi ,
Please let me know Can we Install SQL Server 2014 RTM version and SQL Server 2012 SP1 On Vmare machine version 9.
Does it Supports on VMware 9 . If yes please give me the links .
Thanks a lotHello,
You can find that on VMware Web site for their high end products only as you can see in the following URL. For VMware
9 you won't find it.
http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/sim/interop_matrix.php
VMware 9 is a PC product that basically allows to install any product that works on Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 or earlier. VMware 9 introduces support for Windows 8 and Windows 2012.
So, SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 should install on Windows 8/Windows 2012 RTM with no issues on a VMware 9 virtual machine. Earlier operating systems may require installation of service packs and updates as explained on the following URLs.

JDBC Connectivity for SQL Server 2005 Windows Authentication Mode
Hi Everyone,
In my Scenario we are using SQL Server 2005 with Mixed Mode Authentication. Now we are planning to move only with Windows Authentication Mode.
We have configured DB with Window authentication mode & user id have been configured in PI channels however we are getting error. We checked microsoft site, which says Windows Authentication mode DB can not be connected using JDBC drivers.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313100
In this above link see Basic Connectivity Troubleshooting Section.
Please let me know if someone confirued JDBC Channel Successfuly with Windows Authentication Mode.
Thanks In Advance
Regards,
Bharathi.I think this issue is related to the way that Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 2008 / 2008 R2 treat users who are logged on to the system with an account that is a member of the local administrators group when SQL is running locally.
If your SQL setup has left you with BUILTIN\Administrators being a member of the sysadmin server role and you start up SQL Management Studio you'd expect to be mapped to the sysadmin role if your user account is in the local administrators group, however
these OS disable this ability and when you try to connect to the database engine SQL server doesn't know you are a member of the local administrators group.
To get round this, close all your open SQL management studio windows and then start a new window by right clicking the icon in the start menu and chosing to run as administrator. This time when you try to connect to the SQL database engine, windows doesn't
"hide" the fact that you are an administrator. If you need to do this a lot you can go to the compatibility tab on the properties of the shortcut and set it to always run as administrator.
Alternatively you can install the admin tools remotely and you don't get this effect.

I installed the SQL server Express 2008 R2 and then SQL Server Management Studio 2008 R2 . But during the installation, I could not choose the both SQL and windows authentication mode and an error accrued so I did that just with windows authentication mode.
Now, I want to change the windows authentication mode account to the SQL authentication mode but it shows me an error which is you do not have permission (Although I am the administrator in windows), what can I do?
Following steps are the steps that I went but I got an error:
Server properties >> security >> choose the option of SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode
and the error that I got is attached(access is denied)
Can you please help me?You can change the setting after you gain admin rights to your SQL Server. You don't admin rights automatically, you have to explicitly add yourself during the install
Here's a guide on how to (re)gain those rights:

Hi
I published my WPF application using VS 2010 Express edition and trying to install it on Windows 8. The application runs but when it comes to searching the database that was included in the installation package it gives the error
"This program has compatibility issues Microsoft SQL Server(2008 and 2008 R2)"
The installer when setup was run did download SQL Server so I am not sure why I am getting this error. Any advice?Hello,
Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2008 is required to make it compatible for Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. For more information,
please read the following Support article:
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681562?wa=wsignin1.0
You can download SP3 from the following URL:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27594
If you are installing SQL Server 2008, continue setup despite of the warning and apply SP3 after installing SQL Server 2008.
Hope this helps.

Workflows Do Not Start - "Not Supported in Windows Authentication Mode"
I have a publishing site that is using Kerbos authentication. Everything on the site works fine.
I created a simple workflow in SPD 2013 and published this to the site without any problems. However when I try to start the workflow with the account of a user who is a member of the site it will not run. In the browser an alert pop's up
saying "Something went wrong. To try again, reload the page and then start the workflow again".
In the SharePoint log's I find the following:
SharePoint Server Workflow Services aj5oh Exception System.NotSupportedException: Not supported
in Windows authentication mode. at Microsoft.SharePoint.IdentityModel.SPIdentityContext.Create(SPUserToken token, Boolean isShareByLinkGuestUser) at Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowServices.WorkflowServiceContextExtensions.GetApplicationUserCredentials(WorkflowServicesContext

This is a dev environment where everthing is setup on a single box, and I registered the workflow service in HTTP mode (which I allowed during the installation of workflow manager).
Any ideas on what the problem might be?
Thanks,
RichardYou haven't changed it to Claims there, you have changed NTLM to Kerberos. I guess your web app was already claims based because in SP 2013 we have to use Powershell to convert classic to claims and not from GUI.
When I click the workflow on a item to start in manually I get the error:
"Something went wrong. To try again, reload the page and then start the workflow"
In ULS I get the not supported exception.
It seems 2013 platform workflows aren't supported in classic mode web applications:
http://sharepointconnoisseur.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/sharepoint-2013-upgrade-preparation-to.html
But I am not able to publish 2010 mode workflows in the classic web application, SPD 2013 throws error while publishing:
"Unexpected error on server, wf cannot be associated"
So does Infopath while publishing on to a list in that web application:

SQL Server 2000 and problems conecting to DBase
Hello, I get this code:
String url = "jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433";
//jdbc:microsoft://server:port/database
String user = "wilson";
String password = "";But I get this stackTrace:
java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer]Login failed for user 'wilson'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
But i did create this user.
Besides, when I run the Query Analiser tool, if I try to log in to the DBase using this user, the same problem happens. When i choos Windows Autentication it works, what can I do?
Thanks a lotFind the person who configured that SQL Server instance and explain to them that requiring Windows authentication is a problem for you.

SQL Server 2005 and ColdFusion 7
Hi all,
I am using SQL Server 2005 and ColdFusion 7 (standalone) on
XP 64 Bit. I was using the exact setup a couple of weeks ago, but
had to reinstall my O/S due to hardware problems so am back to the
beginning. I remember having a nightmare setting datasources up in
the past, but did manage to find a solution.
I have tried the following:
SQL has TCP/IP Enabled
SQL is set to Mixed Authentication
SQL has a login set to the same as my Windows Username and
password
My database has a user (dbo) by the same name as the login
set in SQL
When I add a datasource in the administrator I enter the
windows username and password (I have tried without either as
well), the server name as localhost and the port as the default
1433.
I always get the following error:
Connection verification failed for data source: DATABASENAME
java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC
Driver]Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException:
[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket.
Connection refused: connect
Can someone offer any advice? This is driving me proper nuts.
TIA,
Paulwhen i did it, i had to update my jdbc driver

Communication Failing with Corrupted Chars . Sql Server 2000 and AS400
Hi Experts,
I am facing this below error after 9 yrs. sql server 2000 and As400 on prod server. while on dev and stage it's running properly. Here username is ABCD, while it's showing BCD
The OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "" reported an error. Authentication failed. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7399) Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "xxxxx".

[SQLSTATE 01000] (Error 7412) OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server returned message "[IBM][iSeries Access ODBC Driver]Communication link failure. comm rc=8001 - CWBSY0001 -
User BCD on server does not exist, Password length = 8, Prompt Mode = Never, System IP Address = "xxxxx". [SQLSTATE 01000] (Error 7412). The step failed.
Here ABCD user is also disabling/locking the profile on AS400 server.
When we tried on Dev server, linked server through DSN working properly. Last time when it appeared 2 yrs ago, it resolved automatically. but now more than 10 days passed and still Failing.
Please Guide Me.
Regards,
ManishSo this setup has worked for nine years, and all of a sudden stopped working with this error message? Does not look trivial...
What does Here ABCD user is also disabling/locking the profile on AS400 server mean? Is ABCD able to log in directly on the AS400 box?
One possibility is that the user ABCD has been dropped or disabled, and then there is a bug in the ODBC driver where the first character of the username is distorted in the error message. I note that there are two spaces between "User" and "BCD".
The other possibility is that the AS400 is receiving a login attempt from BCD (or something that ends in BCD with an invisible leading character). This sounds very difficult to troubleshoot...
