Windows Server 2012 R2 evaluation product key?

For whatever reason, WS2012R2 evaluation is asking for a product key.
i downloaded it from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter, mounted it to a USB and tried to install it on a fresh drive. It asks for a product key.
I found this thred, https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/475d3b03-c67e-4ef5-83d3-24e31a586a1e/download-the-evaluation-windows-server-2012-r2-product-key?forum=winserver8gen but it didn't help.
Any suggestions?

The evaluation ISO does not require a key. If it is asking for a key, it may be a bad copy.

You might have a problem here. This is an extract from that TechNet article
If the server is a domain controller, you cannot convert it to a retail version. In this case, install an additional domain controller on a server that runs a retail version and remove AD DS from the domain controller that runs on the evaluation version

  • How to activate Windows Server 2012 Datacenter evaluation version with product key provided on MSDN's student account

    Hi,
    I downloaded
Windows Server 2012 Evaluation Version recently. Actually, I wanted to check whether i could run Windows Phone 8 emulator on Win server 2012 using my core2duo (Non-SLAT PC). Now i wanted to activate the evaluated version by using product key of my
MSDN's student account. But its giving error when i enter my product key. I checked this article about converting evaluation version to full retail version. The article
    says :
"If the server is a domain controller, you cannot convert it to a retail version. In this case, install an additional
domain controller on a server that runs a retail version and remove AD DS from the domain controller that runs on the evaluation version."
So kindly guide as to how I can install this additional domain controller and how to remove AD DS from domain controller. Currently, I have Dual Boot PC( win 8.1 and win server 2012).
Hoping to get a brief response....

Unless you have configured a whole lot of things into the DC running on the evaluation copy (should never install production on an evaluation copy), it would be simplest to start from scratch and reinstall.
Or, you simply go into Server Manager > Manage > Add Roles and Features to remove the AD role.  Then you will be back to a workgroup server.
The evaluation version is good for 180 days plus three re-arms of 30 days each.  So you can do a lot of experimenting with the evaluation copy without the need for using an MSDN key.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Trial Key - Did I miss it, too?

I tried both "Windows Server 2012 Essentials" and "Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials".  Here is the link to the page I downloaded the images:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-server-2012-essentials
The following are the respective links to the images I used which were provided by the above webpage:
    http://care.dlservice.microsoft.com/dl/download/1/2/9/129AEC4F-1C6C-44B2-9B61-77935E8AB1F4/WindowsServer2012Essentials-English-Install.iso
    http://care.dlservice.microsoft.com/dl/download/8/F/7/8F7024D2-AB2A-4BE2-8406-1E3AC49C5C1F/9600.16384.WINBLUE_RTM.130821-1623_X64FRE_SERVER_SOLUTION_EN-US-IRM_SSSO_X64FRE_EN-US_DV5.ISO
I tried burning these images to DVD and booting my Intel NUC with resulting disc.  Setup goes fine but it asks me for a product key.  I have not received any mail nor was there any pointers to a product key.  This is why I tried both R1 and R2.
I found a similar post here regarding this issue (in fact I found a couple):
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/windowsserver/en-US/db7fd5b9-f58d-4456-86cf-816ec91ded14/windows-server-2012-trial-key-did-i-miss-it
But the answers were unsatisfactory, so please do not give me the same response.
Just in case the question/directive comes up, I redownloaded and re-burned the images using sector verification.  There are no checksums posted on the site so who knows if something got broken while downloading it, but I find it extremely unlikely that
a few bad sector would cause the intaller to forget its evaluation key rather than borking the whole installer.
Further note that I tried "Windows Server 2012 R2" (standard / non-essentials) and that image correctly had the trial versions baked in.  So, I would bet dollars to donuts the problem lies in the images not in a download / burn failure.
I want to use the new NUC as a central content/backup server for all the home computers which are unfortunately growing at bunny reproduction rates.  Since Windows Home Server was discontinued, I was pointed to Server 2012 R2 as the alternative / upsell.
Let me know if this is the case or if a better-fit product exists.
Also, is the "Essentials" install a simply a licensing matter (e.g., 25 user cap) or is it more fundamentally crippled than the standard version?  I am only a home enthusiast and so not really interested in using the product in a production environment.
I only want some ensurance that if I download "standard", I can put in an "essentials" key at the end of evaluation.  If not, then please point me to a correct "Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials" trial image.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

  • Windows Server 2008 SP2 X86 Product Key Issue

I am trying to create a VM using a Template, but facing an issue with respect to Product Key.  The VHD I am using is of
Windows Server 2008 SP2 X86.  If I do not provide Product Key in the Template/Guest OS Profile, the Virtual Machine creation fails even before starting. Seeing this behavior, I added a dummy key to the Guest OS Profile/Template which allowed
me to deploy the machine, but the VM gets stuck at Customization before failing. When I take the remote console of the VM, the Error I see at the Remote Console is:
Windows could not parse or process the unattend answer file for pass. The settings specified in the answer files cannot be applied. The error was detected while processing settings for component [microsoft-windows-shell-setup]"
So, I am confused now what to do.
    Is dummy key supported?
Do I need to provide the actual key in the Template/Guest OS Profile?

You should be able to evaluate this software for 180 days.

  • Downloaded Evaluation Version of Windows Server 2012 Standard- install is asking for product key

I downloaded the evaluation version of Windows server 2012 standard from the Microsoft TechNet site.
When I try to install server 2012 as a new virtual, I'm prompted for the product key for server 2012.
I do not have the key. How do I get the key? Or, why is this happening on a evaluation version?
Does anyone out there have the key for Windows server 2012 standard evaluation version, or know where I can get it?
    Thank you.

  • Windows server 2012: migration from 2012 standard evaluation version to 2012R2

    Hello.
    Is it possible то migrate
FROM: windows server 2012 standard evaluation
    TO: windows server 2012R2 standard
And if it is possible then "how to"?
Activation product key for 2012 is NOT available.
Activation product key (MAK, "open licence") for 2012R2 is available.
The key for 2012R2 does not "open" 2012 evaluation version.
    Thanks.

Upgrade means moving from your existing operating system release to a more recent release, while staying on the same hardware. For example, if your server is running Windows Server 2012, you can upgrade it to Windows Server 2012 R2. You
can upgrade from an evaluation version of the operating system to a retail version, from an older retail version to a newer version, or, in some cases, from a volume-licensed edition of the operating system to an ordinary retail edition.

  • Activate windows server 2012 R2 after evaluation expired

I installed windows server 2012 R2 evaluation version on 4 servers. The evaluation expired and the servers are shutting down automatically now. When I try to put the license key, it is not accepting it. I could activate some other servers with same license

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 eval refuses to install

I have downloaded Windows Server 2012 R2 evaluation ISO twice. I have tried installing it in VMWare Workstation 10, in VirtualBox 4.3.12 as well as on a Core2Duo E4200 test box w 4GB RAM. All 3 of these methods fail to install. They all result with the same
    error:
There are no MD5Sums posted on the Eval page but both download attempts generate the same checksums:
      File: 9600.17050.WINBLUE_REFRESH.140317-1640_X64FRE_SERVER_EVAL_EN-US-IR3_SSS_X64FREE_EN-US_DV9.ISO

     SHA-1: 5e2ddcaecc91e80a8ce3ec7ae7838f8a3967ed7f
I am stumped. Can anyone at MS or those who were able to install this ISO properly can you verify these checksums? I have tried installing it on the Core2Duo box via USB key and DVD with same result.

That page is a link to the Datacenter version of Server 2012 R2 and the one I am attempting to install numerous times is the non data center version. Anyways I selected Datacenter ISO version, registered and then proceeded to the next page where I seen the
    following error:
    The webpage at http://care.dlservice.microsoft.com/dl/download/6/2/A/62A76ABB-9990-4EFC-A4FE-C7D698DAEB96/9600.17050.WINBLUE_REFRESH.140317-1640_X64FRE_SERVER_EVAL_EN-US-IR3_SSS_X64FREE_EN-US_DV9.I might
be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Can anyone who has successfully installed Server 2012 R2  (non DataCenter) version from ISO on to a temp system generate
a check sum of the ISO file?
I am going around in a circle here after attempting to install it on 2 systems as a standalone install and on two additional
systems in VirtualBox and VMWare Workstation on one system and VirtualBox on a second system all of which resulted in the all too familiar error.

  • Download the Evaluation: Windows Server 2012 R2 product key

Where do you obtain the product key information?
for the .iso download version to be functional

    Hi Marz,
You can download Win2012 R2 from mentioned link
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/server-cloud/products/windows-server-2012-r2/default.aspx#fbid=kyb2VoUOHw-
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/firehose/archive/2013/06/25/system-center-2012-r2-now-available-for-download.aspx
and key is provided in mentioned link
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612867.aspx
I have already downloaded it and checked it, it is working fine without issue.
If you have installed Evaulation version and unable to use KMS key then Try mentioned link, it is very helpful

    http://workinghardinit.wordpress.com/tag/windows-server-2012-r2/
    Steps are
    1. check Current Edition
    DISM /online /Get-CurrentEdition
    2. Check Target Edition
    DISM /online /Get-TargetEditions
    3.
    DISM /online /Set-Edition:ServerStandard /ProductKey:D2N9P-3P6X9-2R39C-7RTCD-MDVJX /AcceptEula
    or
    DISM /online /Set-Edition:ServerDatacenter /ProductKey:W3GGN-FT8W3-Y4M27-J84CP-Q3VJ9 /AcceptEula
Now you can install the new Windows 2012 R2 KMS key. If you run in to any issues here, restarting the KMS Service can help (("net stop sppsvc" and "net start sppsvc") . Try that first.

  • Using Windows Server 2012 VL Product key with Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hi all,
Trying to use a Server 2012 vl product key to active a Server 2012 R2, but running into issues, namely it is not accepting the key. I have read many threads pointing out that different keys are required, but no mention of the process that one needs
to take in order to obtain/swap product keys? Any ideas appreciated? :)

The product key I have is for Windows Server 2012 Standard VL, (It's not a DC).
I have downloaded the evaluation iso for Windows Server 2012 R2 and want to licence it (with a VL), but it is failing with the Windows Server Standard 2012 VL product key.
My question is - am I doing something wrong, or do I need to ask Microsoft to change the product key / buy a new one? - What steps do I need to take?
The product key for WS2012 will not work for WS2012R2. (so, yeah, you're doing that wrong)
    WS2012R2 is not a "free" upgrade from WS2012 (it's different to Win8.0 -> Win8.1)
Your WS2012 pkey will work with WS2012. To use WS2012R2 you need a WS2012R2 pkey.
If you want to "convert" an evaluation license install, into a full licensed install, you must match the version (2012 vs. 2012R2) and the edition, and must use DISM as well as the correct pkey.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj574204.aspx
If you don't have the correct pkey for WS2012R2 already, and you don't have one waiting for you in the Volume Licensing Service Center website, you'll need to purchase a new license for WS2012R2.

  • How to get Windows Server 2012 trial license key?

How to get Windows Server 2012 trial license key? I'm trying to install WinServer 2012 Trial on a VMWare Workstation 9. I'm asked for the product key during set up. If I ignore putting in the key (since I don't have one) The install fails stating no valid
key. I tried this with Oracle's Virtual Box and the same thing happens. I tried using Majic JellyBean to find the key, but that only works on pre-installed OS. A Technet article said to use aaaa-bbbbb-ccccc-ddddd etc. in the spaces. That doesn't work either.
Articles all over the web seem to have other people in the same boat. Please help :)

Download the trial version from here -
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/server-cloud/evaluate/trial-software.aspx  It does not require a key.  If the software is asking for a key, it is not the trial copy.  Where did you get your copy?

    Dear All !
I am facing wit the same issue. I have downloaded the trial version of Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 with Configuration Manager support.
Downloaded successfully and have a bunch of files next to the ISO. I have successfully installed the server and after configuring 2 ethernet interfaces on a physical server the system shut down.
After restart I get the following that the trial period expired !
Just checked my mailbox and did not find any email from Microsoft regarding any license or activation key for this product.
In case the system is installed successfully without any issue how would another download help with this ? Am I missing something regarding this 180 days trial ?
    Please help !
    THanks !
