Windows support software: what do I do with the direct link?

Hello,
I'm on a mid 2011 MBP running Lion and Boot Camp 4.  I've installed Windows 7 after having no luck with Boot Camp Assistant downloading the support software.  After installing Windows, I went back to try again and still can't do it.
So I downloaded the PKG file that's flying around on here.  The thing is, I don't know what to do with it!  When I run it it takes me through an installation.  After that, I can find it nowhere.  It doesn't create a folder in the Library/Application Support so I don't know how to get the files.
I also can't install it on the Windows partition.
Any advice?
Thank you!

it can only be used while in windows

  • The Windows support software could not be saved to the selected drive

I am trying to use bootcamp assistant to set up windows 7 on my 27" iMac (late 2013). I follow the instructions: select all the tasks in the 'select tasks' pane, then I choose the 32GB MS-DOS (FAT-32) flash drive that I am using and the windows 7 home premium image file and click continue. In the Task Status pane, it first formats the flash drive, copies the windows files and downloads windows support software. However every time that I have tried this, when the progress bar is about 2/3 of the way finished -- during the 'Downloading Windows Support Software' task -- an error pops up saying that 'The Windows support software could not be saved to the selected drive' and brings me back to the task selection pane. Upon reading other articles, I have downloaded the latest bootcamp5.1.5621.zip file, but I don't know what to do with it. Any help is greatly appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Adam

Just posting this for anyone else having this problem. I found that the problem was that I was using a USB 3.0 flash drive which is not natively supported by windows. So I think BCA was trying to prevent me from downloading all the files for no reason.

    Hi,
apart from the MacBook Air this feature is of no use for other Macs right now.
Simply ingnore it (click "I already have the Drivers...) and continue with the installation.
Sorry to say but you need the OSX Install DVD for the BootCamp Driver installation.
The 3.0 version of the BootCamp Drivers is only avaiable on the disc.
Later updates (3.1 and 3.2) can be downloaded from Apples Support website.
Call Apple and ask for a replacement and they usually send you one for a small fee.
And have the Serial-Number of your Mac at hand when calling.
And since the OSX Install DVD can also be vital for maintenance and repair it is best to have one.
The needed BootCamp Drivers are on the OSX Install DVD 1 that came with your Mac.
Insert that disc while in Windows after the Windows installation to install the drivers.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • When trying to download Boot Camp Windows Support Software, error says: "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."

I use a Macbook Pro 13" mid 2010 on Mavericks and I've tried using the Boot Camp assistant to download support software for Windows 7. This gives the error "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."
Further, I tried to separately download Boot Camp 4 and 5. When I do this and try to install from Windows 7, it says that this version of Boot Camp is not for this computer and doesn't install. The result is that I have Windows 7 working and installed, but am unable to use the trackpad to rightclick, brightness settings, etc.
    Please help!
    Thanks

You need to run Bootcamp Assistant and select only the menu item to download the Windows Support Software. Follow the instructions. The download servers are extremely slow therefore it may take several hours to get the download.

  • Problems with Installation and then with the direct links...

I go to the error selecting the issue of the download and the solution is that I have to download the Flash Player from another page with direct links of the Player and there's the thing... The links are not working...

The "automatic Install" in the windows support software does not work. I cannot see the USB in Windows to manually start set up.
I have downloaded windows support software from Apple 3 time with the same result.  Where can I get a clean copy of the Windows support software?

Did you correctly format your usb stick in accordance with the Boot Camp installation instructions? Go here to the Boot Camp System Requirements page, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634, look for your computer model/year and download the correct version of Windows Support software.

  • Stucked in ''downloading Windows support software''

    Hello!
Im completely new to mac and im having troubles with bootcamp in mountain lion.
I have a unestable internet connection and it dropped 2 times already and then it got stucked somewhere in the middle. What can i do? is there a way to download it somewhere else and then copying to my mac? Can i have problems with those files that were downloaded and got interrupted?
Also, i have my copy of windows in CD (im using a macbook pro 15 inch 2012 non retina) how do i install it? i dont see the option of installing it from CDs.

Boot Camp Assistant normally doesn't work correctly downloading the Windows support software. Instead, download it from the Apple website, so you can pause and resume this download > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US Follow the steps of the website to copy the Windows support software to a USB drive.
Then, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the steps. You will see an option to install Windows, so mark this option and follow the steps. If you need help, read the steps to install Windows > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf

  • Trouble downloading windows support software

Keep getting error: Windows Support software can't be saved to the selected drive. I'm trying to use bootcamp assistant. HELP! What do I do?

After an hour ot two. The download is very large. Are you downloading from within Bootcamp Assistant or are you downloading directly from the download page? If from within Bootcamp Assistant, try the download page, it is usually faster.

  • TS3648 Windows support software error, boot camp, MBP OS X 10.8.3

I get this same error, "The Windows support software could not be saved to the selected folder. An error occurred while saving the Windows support software", when running boot camp assistant on OS X 10.8.3, which is installed on my MBP from mid-2012, (which did not come with an installation disc). Do I even require the windows support software? If so, how do I install it then? Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Brendan

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Instead of getting the drivers from Boot Camp Assistant, download them from the Apple website > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638 You have the steps to burn the drivers onto a USB in that site.
You need the Windows support software to make Windows run properly and be able to use all the hardware of your Mac on Windows

  • Can't load windows support software

"Can't load windows support software because it is unavailable on the update server"
I am trying to install Windows 7 using Bootcamp when I received the above error. Does anyone know if this is temporary or, alternatively, if the support drivers are available elsewhere

You have not provided enough information. What operating system are you running. If Snow Leopard the support software is in your OSx installation disk. If Lion or Mountain Lion the download servers are notoriously slow. Keep trying.
You should visit the Bootcamp forum where your issue is discussed multiple times a day. https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp

  • Windows support software is not available

I'm running MacOS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) on a 1st-generation Macbook (Core Duo, won't run Lion). When I tell Boot Camp Assistant to download the Windows support software, I get a message that "The Windows support software is not available." I do have the Snow Leopard install disc, but it (obviously) did not come with my computer so it seems like I should not use that option. How can/should I proceed?
Never mind, right after posting (despite previously searching for relevant discussions), I found my answer in a different thread. According to Fortunny, this is not required for Boot Camp 3.0.

Correct. The Windows support/driver software is on your OSx install disk unless you are running Lion. If running Lion you download the support software.

  • Failure to save Windows support software

After downloading the Windows support software, I am unable to save it. When trying to burn a CD or DVD I click continue and nothing happens. When trying to save to an external drive I get: "The Windows support software could not be saved to the selected folder. An error occurred while saving the Windows support software." The external device is FAT as instructed. I have burned CD's and DVD's and written to this device successfully, so it isn't a hardware issue.
