Windows to Mac using Quicken

I am currently leave my PC behind and loving the eMac, except for one small issue. I have Quicken 2005 on my eMac, but I cannot import the file from my PC. Has anyone had any luck making this transition, and if so, did you use Quicken Help and Support directions or did you have another source?
Thanks.

Hi Matt&Kelly,
I used the instructions on the Quicken site:
http://web.intuit.com/support/quicken/2005/win/2159.html
It worked OK for me. Keep in mind that you can only transfer some very basic stuff, like accounts and transactions.....
Good Luck,
Koinseb

New mac user.  How do i convert my files from windows to mac using external hard drive.  I am using a Seagate freeagent go flex.

leave as is and add NTFS driver to write to the drive / migrate maybe / reading NTFS drives isn't always perfect, some times external drive case has trouble mounting or staying mounted and suffers slow copy speed after awhile or with large files which is why I suggest Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X.

  • Migration assistant from windows to mac using Ethernet cable

I have just bought a year old MacBook Pro and have been trying to transfer date from my windows laptop to the mac using the migration assistant.
The first time I tried this process it tried to do it via wifi and the information message stated it would take 28+ hours, but the connection was lost after a few hours and the process stopped.
I would like to restart this using an Ethernet cable from the windows laptop to the mac, but when migration assistant starts it automatically defaults to wifi and doesn't give me an option of choosing to use an Ethernet cable.
How can I force it to use this cable? Because it will take too long by using wifi.

  • ITunes library xml from windows to mac using external drive.

    Hi there!
I'm a newbie on mac computers.. I've recently purchase a macbook pro retina.
So, I used to use iTunes in windows XP. My old computer crashed and I can't re-open it and save files...
Now, the only file I have from my windows library is an "library.xml" file.
The mp3 files that I had in previous iTunes playlists are in my external I: Drive. (not in Itunes folder).
I was searching in apple communities to see how I can transfer playlists in my new iTunes on mac.
But I can't find a solution to my problem... and unfortunately I don't know if there is...
I've try to set the iTunes media folder location my external hard drive, from Preferences-->Advanced-->iTunes media folder location.
Then I go to file-->library--> import playlist and I open the "library.xml".
The result is that I have all my playlists in tact, like it was in my previous iTunes.... But THERE IS NOT ANY FILE ON THEM!!!
So, I have only the playlists... Could you help me to set my I: drive as default path of itunes library, to get my playlists WITH the mp3s?
    PLEASE HELP!
    Thank you in advance.

Should I change the Preferences-->Advanced-->iTunes media folder location back to default folder?
That should be set to wherever you want iTunes to store media in the future (though it sounds like you are planning on keeping this unchecked anyway).  It has no effect on where iTunes looks for existing files.  That is already determined when you first add the file to iTunes or through later consolidating.
In theory you should be able to start iTunes with a blank library, use the import function to add that .xml file and it should still point to the files on the external.  If that is not working then I guess it is possible all those %20 space designations may be causing problems.  It's strange you are seeing those coded that way but  it is likely some carry-over from Windows.  The purpose of adding a test file to the external, then adding it to iTunes, then looking at the .xml is to see how Mac iTunes lists the path for a file on the external added when using the Mac so you can use that as a model for changing other paths if necessary.
Holding down the option key while starting iTunes (make sure you are using the correct key) or immediately after starting it should invoke a screen asking if you want to make a new library.  If this is not working for you then I have no idea why because it works for hundreds of other people I have told to do this.

  • Trying to install windows on Mac using bootcamp, but windows won't install?

I've been working tirelessly on installing a burned to disk windows 7 on my MacBook Pro using bootcamp. Everything worked fine, I booted up windows but the problem was that it wouldn't install at all and just told me that the disk may be corrupted or missing? I noticed the disk was scratched so I reburned it to another disk. When I went to restart the Mac to boot up windows and try the installation again, a message came up saying: "NTFS - 3G could not mount /dev/disk0s4 at /volumes/untitled because the following problem occurred: dyld: library not loaded/ usr /local/libfuse.2dylib referenced from: /usr/local/bin/ntfs-3g reason: image not found." Could this be saying something about the disk? Is there an easy way to just install the **** thing?? In really tired with this, thank you do much for any help.

  • Windows on Mac using the Promise R4 / R6 array

    I deleted this.  Sorry.

Bootcamp is indeed 100% native windows. Apple only developed some additional drivers to be able to handle their specific hardware.
Oh, and according to a test a few months ago: the fastest Windows PC is in fact a Mac
Instead of using bootcamp, you could also try a virtual machine product (e.g., VMWare Fusion or Parallels) to run your applications. These allow you to run Windows programs on your Mac in an integrated fashion (heck, you might not even notice you are running a windows program).

  • Switching from windows to mac - using iPhoto

Hello. I recently bought a mac and had the tech.'s switch over all my pictures, every 11,000 of them. I am kind of stuck trying to use iPhoto. A few things I have questions on, such as why all of my photos are dated under "events" and aren't even in synchronized order after clicking "view by ascending date". How should I go about organizing all my pictures? Another thing is why do all the pictures I take on photobooth make it's own ablum in iphoto with one picture in each ablum? I want to be able to save all my photobooth pictures to one photo and have the images I save off the internet not to be stuck in recently added. Help please? thanks.

  • Reformatting an external HD from Windows to Mac

I tried to re-format an external (LaCie) hard drive from Windows to Mac using the Erase option in the Disk Utility, but it would not go through. The error message is not informative; it just states the formatter encountered an error and was unable to finish the operation. Any pointers on how to solve this issue? Thanks!

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
you should use the 'Partition-Tab' from Disk Utility and then click on the 'Option'-Button to set the partition Table to GPT (GUID partition Table).
Sounds to me like the external HD is till using the MBR (Master Boot Record) common to Windows PC on which you can't make a partition using the 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)' file system.

  • Time changes when switching from Windows to Mac, vice versa

    Hi,
I am using Bootcamp to run Windows XP SP2 on my macbook. When ever I switch from one to the other (mac to windows, vice versa) my time will always be incorrect. I have to restart the computer everytime to switch, but when ever I just reset and load into the same OS as before, my time is fine. Anyone know what is wrong? It's really annoying to have to change the time or think its a certain time and it being wrong.

Everyone gets that problem. Evidently Windows and Mac use a different reference point for the time, I think one uses Greenwich and the other local. On the Mac side you can go to System Prefs->Date & Time, and see if checking the box to "Set date & time automatically" fixes the problem.

  • Migration from Photoshop Elements Windows to MAC

    Hi,
I don't know if this question is answered already somewhere in this forum. I started a search without results.
Maybe I'm wrong. If so, please apologize.
I used Elements for years on my Windows box. Recently I bought an iMac and would like to know if it's possible
to migrate my albums and all the stuff from Windows to Mac using the Mac version of Elements.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

The mac version of PSE has no organizer, so no, not directly. What you can do is to create tags for all your albums and categories, and then use File>Write Tags and Properties to File(s) or John Ellis's psedbtool to write the tags as metadata keywords that many mac programs, including Bridge (which you get with PSE/mac) and iphoto can recognize, but you will need to reestablish any hierarchies.

  • Encoding for Premiere in Windows from Mac FCP

    Hi,
I'm a Final Cut Pro user.  I have a client who sent us a drive with the complaint that "they can't read or copy the files" onto their Windows computer with Premiere CS6 installed.  The problem as I see it is twofold:  one, it's a Mac-formatted drive; and two, the files are Quicktime ProRes and XDCam-EX videos.  These came from a third-party shooter, BTW.
I'm trying to find an easy solution that will let me return the drive to the client as something they can plug in and work with.  I figure I'll pull the files off, reformat the drive as NTFS, and dump back.  Here's the thing:  I understand that it's possible to edit in ProRes and in XDCam-EX in Premiere, in Windows...but I have little confidence that the client will be able to figure out how to do it.  I can convert these files  - just need to know what to convert to, to make it easy.  They are 1080i at 29.97 fps.   What's a good format that lets a Premiere user basically plug-and-edit...?  Or am I off-base, and it will be easy for my client to grab and use these files?
    Any help appreciated!
    Thanks,

To easily move HDDs between Windows and Mac, use ExFat instead of NTFS.  It's supported by both OSs and can use large files (unlike FAT32).
Installing the ProRes codec (read only) on Windows is trivial.  Install Quicktime and you are done.  However, lots ofpeople here will pour scorn on using *anything* encoded in a Quicktime wrapper because it's (currently) a 32 bit platform so is perhaps not running as fast as the native 64 bit codecs.
Personally, I use ProRes quite happily on both Windows and Mac.    Another alternative is Avid's DNxHD (free download for both Mac & Windows).

  • How can I get qucken data from windows copied over to quicken for the Mac?

I recently bought a Macbook Pro. I have been using windows my whole life. I installed Quicken 2006 for the MAC. I backed up my windows quicken on a disk and it just doesn't open it. Is there a trick? or am I screwed?

Unfortunately, there is no simple way to convert a Quicken/WIndows data file to Quicken/Mac. This is a major complaint of a lot of switchers.
I can't find the link (I'll keep looking) but I know that Intuit offers a conversion service. You send them your data file, and for an absurd amount of money they'll convert the file for you.
You're probably better off starting your Quicken/Mac file from scratch.
That's what I did. It took some time to do, but now I'm happy with it and I didn't have to pay anyone to convert the file.

  • Converting Quicken Windows to Mac

I've followed the instructions on Intuit's site, and continue to get error messages when uploading the Transaction QIF file into Quicken for Mac.
    Invalid QIF Header: Type:@N|
Invalid QIF Header: Type i (but with a Spanish accent over the i)
If anyone has run into this and fixed it, or has additional pointers on making this switch, please advise!

This is one of those cases where I'd stick with the Windows version and run VMWare Fusion or Parallels. When I switched to the Mac from WinTel machines about the time the Intel-based Mac's came out, I maintained a Windows machine solely for Quicken. It was obvious that the Mac version was an afterthought to Intuit and it still remains a poor stepchild to the Windows version. The moment there were reliable VMs available to enable the Mac to run Windows applications under a VM, I simply installed the Windows version of Quicken into my Windows XP virtual machine (VMWare now, but Parallels at the beginning) and have continued to use it to this day. With more than 15 years' worth of data collected in Quicken, I wasn't about to risk data loss making the transition to a well-documented file-incompatible system. When Intuit decides to make the Mac and Windows versions identical and use the same data files, then I'll switch to a Mac version. Until then, it is no sweat for me to run the Windows version.

  • Iam currently using Quicken for Mac 2007. Can I upgrade my os from 10.6.8 to 10.9

I am currently using Quicken for Mac 2007. Can I upgrade my os from 10.6.8 to Mavericks 10.9?

Or wait for the new version of Quicken for Mac which is scheduled to be released 1st quarter 2014 according to a response to a post I read on the Intuit site.
    Eric:
You are more trusting of "waiting" for Intuit to live up to their promises than I am!
    From Baltwo's quoted article:
This happened when Lion released and Apple decided to remove Rosetta which was a software tool to allow old software to run on the new Intel based Macs.  It took a bunch of developers 8 months to get 2007 working again on Lion even though they didn’t add any new features.
Intuit had six years notice that Rosetta was a temporary solution to its PPC versions of Quicken, yet waited until Apple finally removed Rosetta from Lion before instituting its programming for an Intel version!?!
This is very consistent with their history of how they treat their Mac customers relative to their Windows customers...
Morale of the story...  don't wait!  For $15, start using Quicken now.

  • Want to use a Lacie External Hard Disk with Windows and Mac? Can I?...

Hi, I've just purchased a Lacie Extreme D2 external hard disk, I'm looking to use it to move film clips from my Mac G5 to my Sony Vaio laptop. I'll connect the Mac using Firewire 1 and the PC using USB 1.
I understand there is an issue with setting the compaitibility of the hard disk to either Mac or Windows format but I'm wondering if I can set it to both, so it's possible to transfer these files? The hard disk is Windows and Mac compatible but does it have to be partitioned a certain way?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,

Format the drive as FAT or use the Mac format (HFS Extended) and install MacDrive on the PC.
