windows xp will not install ipod video...keeps saying it will not install ipod...tried to turn off norton...tried to uninstall itunes...changed drive letter...still will not install

How nice. Any more stories for us?
More specifically, what won't install? "iPod video" isn't a program, so it can't be that. Do you mean iTunes won't install, or the software on the iPod CD. What error messages do you get when trying to install?

Windows 7 does not recognize my device so I can't sync to iTunes. I tried running MSCONFIG, reinstalling iTunes and various different cables, usb ports. Any other suggestions?

To access device manager, click Start and then right->click on Computer and choose Manage.
It might be listed as unknown or under the USB host controllers section.

Windows 7 does not recognize ipod

My iPod classic is not recognized in windows 7 (new PC). I can see my iTunes and all the music on line, however, I cannot synch any new music as the PC does not recognize my iPod. I have tried all the help FAQs that are on-line.

Itunes 10.7 for Windows 7 does not recognize iPod touch 4g

Anyone having the same problem? I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and still no iPod recognition by iTunes. Although my computer recognizes it as a camera.iTunes says no program is assciated with difxinst64.exe
Has anyone run into this before?

I have the same problem a long time ago.try to change to other usb port and iTunes have a tool to detect the problem go to Help->LaunchDiagnostic. in iTunes this must send you a message with the error or try to close the "difxinst64.exe" service in "task manger"

I followed all the instructions on the suggested page. Many files in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ and C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\ could not be deleted. Message said ""Cannot delete files: It is being used by another person or program"' but could not find iPodService.exe in task manager (also, the "Cannont delete ... " did not mention iPodService.exe).
Deleted all that I could. Reinstalled iTunes. Still same result. iTunes and computer both recognize my old iPod. Only the computer recognizes iPod Touch.

PC does not recognize Ipod - Can't mount IPOD error message

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone experienced the same problem with their Ipod as I have. I have tried to play songs on my Ipod through the shuffle songs function but it does not work. The Ipod tries to play one song; however, it will not play it and then it will continue to the next which won't play either and this continues until I just shut off my Ipod. I have tried resetting it and also reinstalling Itunes but it does not help the problem.
A second problem is that my Windows PC does not recognize my Ipod when I plug it in. I have tried so many things to try and solve this including trying to restore my IPOD using the updater but when I keep getting the error message "Can't mount IPOD".
If anyone knows what I can do to try to fix this I am greatly in your debt!

I had the same problem. Now I have many new ones. Here goes the chain of events 1st iPod did the same exact thing:
1. Was going along my marry way listening to music
2. Music stops playing
3. I look to find my iPod cycling throughe very song but playing none... for an hour.
4. I turn it off.
5. I get home to attempt to restore it but when I plug it up to the computer, it is not recognized, cannot mount, ect.
6. I continue trying to find a way, then it stops going to the "Do Not Disconnect" screen.
7. Well I try it later on today, like 20 mins ago and it does it! Yay! but then it resets itself and it now rests on the apple logo and Windows does not recognize the USB device.
Oh yeah, did I mention I made the trade and got this one SATURDAY. Yeah so it's already broken.
any suggestions?

Before you can use the iPod you have to activate it by connecting it to a computer with iTunes. Try the following to get your computer to see the iPod so you can activate the iPod.

Hey, we are having exactly the same problem! My old ipod died a slow death so I bought a new nano 16gb 4th gen and I can't use it as itunes isn't recognising any ipod being plugged into it. I've been through the whole support database and every USB port is working on the laptop, so I know the computer is recognising its there its just itunes itself - even removed and downloaded it again but no change! Windows does not recognize ipod nano, but it charges

Hey. If I plug my ipod into my laptop and computer, it does not recognize my ipod. It pops up a message that says that a unrecognizable usb device has been plugged in. It has, however, worked in the past. The ipod charges, but I'm not able to use it as a flash drive or to upload music or anything like that. What can I do to fix this?

Thanks for the link. It didn't solve the issue on my mother in law's desktop, but it did contain a link to another solution for desktops (and for laptops not helped by the link you provided).
The link reads: "If you don't have a PC laptop or the steps above did not help, see this document for more information."
Essentially, putting the iPod into disc mode caused it to be recognized by XP and all was well.
Anyway, your help is much appreciated as it's particularly difficult for me to work in the Windows enviroment since I so rarely do it.
