Windows XP professional on K7T266 Pro 2

I just installed Windows XP professional on my computer.  Previously I was dual booting Windows 98 and windows 2000 Professional, but I decided to just do one system.  The problem is, I can't use the windows update.  I get to the point where it says it's scanning for updates, and it just doesn't do anything.  It stays at 0%
Does anyone have any ideas.  To be honest I was having problems on the Windows 2000 installation as well.  Same problem.  On the Windows 98 partition, it was fine and worked like a charm.  I'm stumped.  ANY ideas are welcome.  Thanks in advance for your help

ya I have done all that.  My internet works fine.  It's just the windows update that doesn't work.  I can download stuff fine and the system works quite well, I just can't get any service packs or anything.

But in 64 bit it gives the following error when I try. What do you think could be the reason?

  • Windows 7 professional 64 Bit on MacBook Pro Retina 15 with Boot Camp ?

Hallo guys, i have a big problem with installing Windows 7 professional 64 Bit on my MacBook Pro Retina 15 with Boot Camp. No matter what i try i get a black screen after partitioning or get a message like " No bootable disk" or  " No System Disk availabe".
My Mac has : OS X version 10.8.2, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB memory, 2.6 GHz Intel i7 and is only a week old
My Boot Camp is version 5.0.1
My Windows InstallingDVD is one year old now, i needed it to build a PC last year, hope that doesnt make a difference, its a full version, so not just for upgrading.
From what i saw in the apple support it should work on my macbook. I hope someone can help me.
    Thanks in advance.

Ok, problem solved. I looked a bit more here in the questions and there was the answer and its quite simple.
Somehow an USB-stick makes problems while Windows wants to install, i dont know why. So i just made everything over DVDs and now everything works fine.

  • Cannot install Windows XP Professional on my MacBook Pro using Boot Camp.

Cannot install Windows XP Professional on my MacBook Pro using Boot Camp. When I get to the point of inserting the Windows disc and clicking 'Install' at the Boot Camp Assistant screen, it keeps telling me that it cannot find the Install Disc. The installation disc I am using is a new full install disc. I have tried to do the same thing using a Windows 7 disc with the same results. Does anyone have any answers. I am getting desperate!

Perhaps you could offer a suggestion then.

Did you download and install the Windows Support software? If you did, did you use the Boot Camp Control icon to set up the trackpad how you want it?

  • [VIA] K7T266 PRO- RU motherboard: Windows XP on a RAID ARRAY (fasttrak100 LITE)

    Hi All!
    I have a
MSI  K7T266 PRO- RU motherboard, BIOS is the latest, official from MSI website,
Problem short description: Windows XP (sp1 or sp2 english, I tried both)
will not install when I set 2 x 40 Gig = ~80 Gig Stripe Array.
    detailed description:
motherboard K7T266 PRO- RU  BIOS 1.9 AMI BIOS.
AMD ATHLON XP 1700 + "Palomino" microprocessor, at default speeds.
one piece of 512 PC 3200 RAM, can tell details later.
    Power supply: 400 W CODEGEN model : 300X.
HDD-s : one IBM deskstar, fully functional, and a SEAGATE barracuda. seagate SEATOOLS, IBM DFT 32 no errors both.
I set in the FASTTRAK 100 LITE "PDC20276R" (written on the chip) bios a STRIPE array. Powerquest drive magic , or the Windows XP CD handles it fine , as a 80 gig disk.
I downloaded ALL available versions of the FASTTAK 100 LITE driver from the MSI website.
(only tried: MSI driver FASTTRAK 100 lite, the only available driver on the MSI website, and various drivers from www.promise.com) ( http://www.promise.com/support/download/download2_eng.asp?productId=15&category=driver&os=0&go=GO ) (but I guess they WONT support my raid controller on the motherboard)
Windows XP CD , booting, Press F6 for additional RAID /SCSI drivers, I put in the floppy, choose WinXP fasttrak lite driver, windows continues, even formatting the 80 GIG disk, copy files- access the FASTTRAK.SYS driver, EITHER it says: no fixed disk present, press F3 to exit windows setup, or windows setup continues, copies files, reboots, and then STOP ERROR

please, help me with the following:
how to install XP on a raid array.
is it worth, will it be little bit faster disk load times etc?
is it secure if I trust the HDD-s?
any clue, how to overclock the AMD 1700+ athlon XP palomino to its maximum, but still stability?
AND : I read a lot about some MOD-ded BIOS called " KUNIBERT"  , which makes the LITE raid to a FULL RAID and some other extras? where to get it and what to do?
email me if you can    martin5   "at"   freemail.hu
    THANKS !

pardon me, dump? my english is not very perfect.. you mean to trow away, replace to something better, more stable power supply, more powerful?
you must see... first I would like to resolve the "installing XP on a raid array" problem,( how is it possible, is it worth, will it speed up hard disk access and load times... etc... ) and after that maybe I  will OC the machine...
it is now , with a 8 cm ventillator and a large aluminium cooler 39 Celsius IDLE and goes to 45 Celsius during EVEREST benchmarking test. (temperatures on 1700+ default setting and OC-'d to 1900+. just experiencing with it. ) (I saw the toms hardware guide movie , smoking processors..)

  • Shared variable engine with pro-face touchscreen windows 2000 professional

    hello,
who has some experience with the shared variable engine from LabView 8.5 and a touchpanel from Pro-Face?
We try to deploy shared variables from the touchpanel but it doesn't work. Additionally the windows service ni shared variable engine dosn't start and we can't start it manually .
The touchpanel is a PS3701A from Pro-Face with Windows professional 2000 for embedded, Pro-Face told us that we have the full service of Windows 2000 professional on a regular PC.
    Many thanks in advance

    Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the feedback!  Your feedback will help us to improve LabVIEW for our customers.  This bug has been reported to R&D (#45493) and they are currently investigating this issue.  For now, the best workaround appears to be using a different OS, as this seems to only occur in Windows 2000.  Thanks for the feedback!

  • Why is 64 bit Windows 7 Professional running so slow on my new 2011 15" Macbook Pro?

I installed 64 bit Windows 7 Professional onto my new 2011 15" Macbook Pro and while the Mac partition runs fine, everything about the Windows partition seems to be slow.  There's hangups, random loading icons for processes that shouldn't require any work at all (even browsing through Windows Explorer will do this from time to time).  I don't undertand why this is happening, I thought running 64 bit would unleash the full power of my new Mac.  Should I just wipe it and do a clean install of Windows 7 32 bit instead?  I've never had issues/compatibility problems with installations of 32 bit Windows.

Well if you just installed it, then perhaps it's not validated yet and when it does there will be Windows Updates to increase the performance.
I'm sure you followed all the Bootcamp instructions about installing the Apple drivers and all that.
The only thing I can suggest is you reinstall it again after a few days and all the Windows Updates applied if it speeds up or not. Keep hitting it over and over. Make sure you have the free Microsoft Security Essentials installed or you'll get pwned really fast.
Also you have to remember that when Bootcamp carves out a Windows partition it's doing so at the bottom slowest part of your hard drive, the innermost sectors which are much smaller than the sectors OS X uses, therefore Windows will always be a bit slower than OS X, and there really isn't anything you can do about it unless you had a SSD.
I don't think you can install 32 bit Windows, even though it may run, it's only going to use half the registers of your 64bit processors.
Windows 7 64 bit runs fine in my virtual machine, I even get over 45 fps on Cube 2 Sauerbraten, but of course it's a rather light 3D game.
If you got the 2.0 Ghz 15" MacBook Pro, that could explain things, it's has a rather weak video card.

  • Need Windows XP Professional/MacBook Pro answers before installing

I have a Windows XP Professional CD FULL Version that I got right after it was released to retail. It does not have any SATA drivers (got it in 2001), but I was able to integrate (slip in) Service Pack 2 from instructions I saw in another post. The original XP CD has not been in use for a while and needed to know if I use the laptop that has a newer version of Windows on to create the new CD will it work on a MacBook Pro Intel i5 with 10.6.3 (has all current updates) . There are some programs I need to use, but the pc laptop is 29 months old and is about had.
This is my first Apple anything so I don't know what from the Windows world will work with it or not. Also do I need to get drivers for the hardware I currently have on my apple for the Windows side (example: do I need to find the current audio/video/memory card/ethernet drivers) of the partition.

I just installed win xp on my mac, for the first time. (dont know much about macs, but i am from a windows background).
Not sure about creating a new cd, but the steps i took were as follows.
    Go to finder> apps> utilitys> boot camp.
Then create a windows partition. ( I made mine 10GB as i dont need alot of space).
Then it asks for your windows CD. ( the origional one you have i am guessing should work fine, youll just have to do more windows updates than a newer disc).
make sure when going through the windows install, you install it on the "BOOT CAMP" partition, and you must format it, DO NOT leave it intact, as it wont work.
If you format it as FAT, then you can transfer files from your mac to it but its not necessary.
But formatting it as NTFS isnt a problem either, you just cant transfer things onto it when your are in OSX.
after its installed it will need drivers, which is easy they are on your OS X dvd, just put it in and run the boot camp file to install the boot camp drivers and utility.
one thing i found was that it defaulted to boot to windows after i installed it.
if you want to boot into os x, then hold in the option button when you switch it on and you can select os x.
and you can change the default boot partition in system preferences under, the startup option.
so far i havnt had any windows programs that wouldnt work on my windows install. but ive only had it for about 24 hours!

  • Downgrade pre installed Windows 8 pro (pre-injected key) to Window 7 professional

    Hallo,
we just bought a few Dell Vostro with preinstalled Windows 8 pro and the keys are pre-injected within the BIOS of the computer. There is no Windows 8 key on a sticker outside of the computer.
What is the right way to downgrade this Windows 8 pro to Windows 7 Professional ?
    Thank you.
       Wolfgang

    Thank you for your answer.
I followed you link and came out on this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2832566/en
    >For a PC that has Windows 8 preinstalled by an OEM
    >Obtain genuine Windows 7 Professional or Windows Vista Business installation media and the >corresponding >product key. You may have to buy a full-package product copy of the Windows downgrade >from a retailer.
OK - I have a Windows 7 Professional installation medium with key.
    >Insert the media for the downgrade version of Windows into the PC, and then follow the installation >instructions.
    I did it with success.
    >Type the product key when you are asked to do this. If the software was previously activated, you can't >activate it online. In this case, the local Activation Support telephone number will be displayed. Call the >number, and explain the circumstances.
When it is determined that you have an eligible Windows license, >the customer service representative will provide a single-use activation code to activate the software. >Please be aware that Microsoft does not provide a full product key in this scenario.
I typed in the product key. The software *was* previously activated (still using it) - but I could activate it.
There was no need to call the support by phone and explain anything.
    Abstract:
It *is* possible and legal to downgrade a Windows 8 pro OEM license with pre injected key in BIOS to Windows 7 Professional by using a different Windows 7 Professional key by using the windows 7 key a second time.
Can you please confirm this ? Thank you.

  • Mid 2012 13" Macbook Pro Windows 7 Professional 32bit, which Boot Camp Drivers?

    Hi,
I've managed to partition my Hard drive, assigning 100GB to the Windows Partition. I've installed Windows 7 Professional 32 Bit SP1 and have managed to install MS Office 2007 (I've not installed any other updates as I can't connect to the internet over wireless yet as I've not installed the drivers).
I've downloaded three sets of of Boot Camp Drivers and have been unable to get any to work. The ones I've downloaded are:
    Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033
    Boot Camp Support Software 4.0.4033
    Boot Camp Support Software 4.1.4586
I now understand that v5 is the wrong version to use, however for both of the "version 4's", it is telling me that they are incompatible with this version of Windows... So I am very confused... I've unzipped the archives and have tried to run the set-up (and even tried the individual drivers)...
Does anyone know where I'm going wrong? I don't know which drivers I should be installing?
    Thanks,
    Alex

I've managed to solve it! Basically, it all came down to installing the "correct" package. I had foolishly assumed that the highest version number would support all the latest product.... However in the end I had to install this package:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1635
Basically, you need to scroll down to the bottom of the page (I assumed all the pages were the same as they have the same introductions), and open up the "system requirements" tab and check to see if your machine is on that list. Once you've found one with your machine, download and run that. Remember to extract the folder from the zipped archive first. It won't run if it's "still within the archive"...
    Cheers,

  • Macbook Pro installed windows 7 professional and no audio :(

i've serached for sulutions all around the web and nothing, i've recently installed windows 7 in my macbook pro(newones) for school matters and there's no audio :s
    Things I tried:
    install dirvers from cd included
    install realtek drivers manually
    reinstall windows 7

At this point, if you try installing driver again, try using Driver Sweeper 2.0 from Guru3D to sweep and delete drivers in addition to uninstalling. That can clean things up and help, but I am at a loss and just from reading seems mixed results on MBP as to which ones to use and work or not.
So do browse through today's posts. Though I am perplexed MacRumors couldn't help - seems mixed and the Mac Pro section sometimes more help than Windows on Mac. Though the MacBook area you tried also?
