WINE and my Dual-screens

I have looked around, quite a bit, haven't found a answer that i've been really looking for...
I'm a big gamer, and I run two 17" flatpanel monitors at 1280x1024 on a NVIDIA GeForce GTS250.
When I run apps in WINE, it tries pushing each app out in 2560x1024, such as World of Warcraft... now, for WoW, it doesn't bother me. because my UI scales to 1280x1024 for some reason anyway.
As for games, like PoRTaL and Left4Dead.... it's trying to squeeze 2560x1024 into one monitor, making them pretty much unable to play..
I have tried emulating the app in a virtual environment, at 1280x1024... and I really don't wanna disable my other monitor every time.... Because I use them for Cheats, or a guide, whatever I tend to use it for...
Is there a way to push these apps into 1280x1024 instead of my dual-screen resolution?
It's one of the main issues for me keeping Winblows 7 on my computer... pretty sure once I figure this out, i can get rid of it.
Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, probably wasn't searching the right terms and what not.

Perhaps, if you are interested, you could setup a new xorg.conf which has separate X sessions for each window (rather than TwinView), such that you could open up what you want on one window, then play your game on the other.  Even if that is beyond what you want, you could check out ways to dynamically turn off screens:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=81310
For a while there I would launch games via scripts, which called xrandr first to turn off my second screen, but these days I launch everything with xinit to avoid turning off/on compiz for max performance.
I'm interested to see what you decide on, post back here
I have thought about both options, and I'm not sure if I wanna do either of them,
I mean, I want WINE apps to go into 1280x1024 which makes sense that I won't be able to unless I disable a monitor or run two separate X sessions, which I'll probably set it up to run two separate X sessions.
Still doing some research and making my decision.

  • [dwm] fibonacci patch doesn't work and DWM dual screen.

How does dwm handle dual screen?
(I am now an Awesome user, and i am thinking installing dwm. I love the spiral/dwindle layout in Awesome and I am trying to install the fibonacci patch in dwm(link). But i think it's failing. When i do makepkg, this is the last output before the error. Does anyone have any ideas?)

Dwm has minimal support for dual screens.   AFAIK they are still working on the best way to support it.  If you must have dual screens the way awesome handles them, I'd suggest you use awesome for the time being.
For the record I am a dwm user, but I'm using 4.7 because the code got cluttered when they started adding dual screen support.  Once it is implemented in a sensible way I'll upgrade.

  • Can't pass parameter's to a transaction in a new win and skip first screen.

    Dear experts,
I'm trying to open a  transaction('CV04N') in a new window from a screen that has input box and a pushbutton. I'm trying to pass parameter(DOKNR/'CV1') into the new transaction and skip the first selection-screen. I tried to use Get/Set parameter and that didn't work.
Also i tried to passing values with batch input and that did pass my values but without skipping the first screen and also it froze the transaction.
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

    Hi Gershon Osmolovski,
Alvaro is right, CV04N needs to press Execute button. So you need to use Batch Input. If it doesn't work, there must be an error in your code, what messages are returned by SAP? I have tested right now, SAP leaves immediately after the selection screen because there is a code that stops the program if it detects it runs using batch input (SY-BINPT system field). So, you should run CALL TRANSACTION with OPTIONS FROM structured data object (data type CTU_PARAMS, see ABAP documentation for more information), with component NOBINPT='X'. Be careful as an ALV grid is then displayed, you can only simulate the buttons so I advise you to indicate the exaction selection in the selection screen, then press "select all", and execute the function you want.
If you need more help, paste your code, only useful part.

  • Thunderbolt and Hdmi Dual Screen MACMINI problem

    Hi there,
I have two screens, one connected via HDMI, and another via Thunderbolt, which goes into thru UA APOLLO audio interface's 2nd thunderbolt output, when my Mac Mini starts up it is fine, for around 5 minutes, but then the thunderbolt display always goes blank, the machine still recognises its there as I can still drag things out of my HDMI screen to where the Thunderbolt screen should be, I have tried new cables, cleaning sockets with antistatic cleaners, the thunderbolt screen works fine with out the hdmi screen being connected and vice versa, any help would  be greatly appreciated.
(I'm running the latest mac mini, with mavericks up to date)
    thanks in advance

Archimaredes wrote:I don't have much experience with this, so forgive me if I'm wrong, but should that not be 1080, instead of 180?
Thank you, but "180" actually means that the upper border of the 2nd display starts 180 pixels below that of the 1st one. The number may be a bit misleading, but it is how my displays are physically set up.
olive wrote:If gdm cannot behave properly, you can simply disable the external monitor in xorg.conf
This is a fabulous idea, I hadn't even thought about this! Launching the xrandr command at the start of the GNOME session is really easy with gnome-session-properties.
I tried disabling the 2nd display, but it just ignores the line and starts with GDM flashing like usual. This is my xorg.conf:
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "DVI-0"
    Option "Primary" "true"
    Option "Position" "0 0"
    Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1080"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "DVI-1"
    Option "Position" "1920 180"
    Option "PreferredMode" "1360x768"
    Option "Disable" "true"
    EndSection
If I could get this to work, this would be a wonderful workaround.

  • IMac - Dual Screen Monitors. Windows issue

    Hi,
I have an imac 27inc and a 27inc led samsung side by side.
I have connected the samsung to my imac and the dual screen works perfectly in the Mac operating system.
    However.
When booting up in windows (using bootcamp) the samsung has black borders around the screen and is not displaying a full image ?
Is there a fix for this ?
I have connected the imac and the samsung through HDMI.
    Cheers,

I sounds like Windows is not correctly reading the screen's capabilities. There should be something like a Control Panel to reset the screen resolution to the screen's best native resolution.
With CRT's there was a huge expanse of phosphor on the inside of the tube, and you could fudge the resolution quite a bit. With LCD, you have one "best" resolution, and if you don't hit it perfectly, you get fuzziness or black borders.

  • Can the T61 w/ Adv. Mini Dock do dual-screen laptop screen + external monitor?

I am moving from a desktop to a laptop w/ docking station.
I want to be able to drop the T61 into the dock and go dual-screen with the lappy screen (usually holding outlook open) and say a 19" LCD. Is this possible?
Would the Intel X1300 support a 19" LCD res?
I am most likely going with a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M, but just in case I changed my mind.. I would like to know.

Yes - all the T61s here using the Advanced Mini-Dock (including mine) and they all support dual-screen.
We use 24" Monitors with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 32 Bit and it looks teriffic.
If you dock and undock a lot I'd recommend using the ThinkVantage Presentation Director to set up your screens.
I think the nVidia is worth it.

I want to have my itunes visualizer on my TV which is connected via HDMI adapter, and still have access to full screen itunes and my desktop on the main display.
Any suggestions?  App downloads that can do this?  Please let me know.

You can't do it.  This has been an issue since Lion.

Where you have a monitor as the display and a seperate keyboard, but the keyboard is another monitor which operates as a keyboard, for example something like this...
This ultimately would mean that the keyboard could be application driven, that is it could be specifically configured anyway that the application requires it.  I'd also like to see a dual screen option for touchsmart PC - a screen that is built in and can be slid out from the rear of the monitor to act as dual screen, extended screen...

  • Using Keynote with Podcast Capture and Dual Screens

    Hi everyone,
We are trying to use a dual screen setup to record some Keynote presentations using Podcast Capture (i.e Dual mode, with the Keynote presentation in one screen and the presenter in the other).
The problem we are having is that when in full screen mode, Keynote takes control of both displays, thus stopping the Podcast application from being displayed. Even if we switch off the Presenter Display on the second screen, the second screen turns black.
I know we can start and stop recording with hotkeys, but we would prefer to be able to see the Capture app in one window with the presentation full screen in the other.
Perhaps this is just an oversight on Apple's part, but I'm finding it hard to believe its not possible. If anyone else has a workaround then please share.
    Thanks.

Other applications are not visible when Keynote is playing back.  Keynote takes over control of the graphics system when playing back presentations to enable Keynote to display properly.
When I play back Keynote and I want to look at a second application, I use a second Mac.

  • Xfce4 and dual screen issues

I have setup dual screen in xfce4, i have added
    xrandr --output VGA --left-of LVDS
to xfce4 startup apps. But the issue is that both screen defaults to 1024x768 and if it change the resolution to the correct one my laptop screen turn black. This is some what the similar kind i issue i face in kdemod4 but gnome work ok with with the above command.

    What video card?
    What drivers?

  • Microsoft Word consistently becomes active window when clicking between dual screens and programs

    13" MBP
    2.3 ghz i5
    8GB Ram
    Running 10.9.2
    Microsoft Word 2011
Dual screens with amazon Mini Display to VGA adapter
When I am running word between an external monitor and my MBP, Microsoft word always interrupts any clicks between programs and between screens to become the active window. This is especially annoying when I am trying to navigate between MacMail and Chrome, or any other programs.
The problem doesn't exist when I click between programs on the MBP, but only when I select windows between the two screens. Or programs on the external monitor.
Word is up to date, as is my MBP.
Please don't punt me to Microsoft, they're the worst!
    Thanks!

There is a workaround for this problem, which was posted by Highestwater on the Microsoft Community thread for this bug and worked for me as well:
    Go to
System Preferences > Mission Control >
and UN-check the box labeled "Displays have separate Spaces" (see image below)
The original poster on this thread may already be aware of this workaround, because he/she mentioned that the "separate Spaces" option is checked. But if you can live without the extra Mavericks dual display features (like going full screen in 1 display only, switching spaces independently on each display, and having a menu bar on each display), then uncheck this option and the "stealing focus" bug seems to disappear. For me the bug is so annoying that it's worth it to lose the extra features. Just yesterday I closed a Word document I was working on by mistake because I clicked on a Finder window on my other display and immediately pressed command-w to close it, without realizing that the focus had switched to my word document which closed instead. It was saved, but this sort of stuff interrupted my work enough to be both an annoyance and a time drain.

I would like to know if there a way to use window (via bootcamp) and use a dual screen with the use of thunderbolt?

There are very specific requirements for using an iMac as an external display.
From Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Apple Support
What are the requirements for TDM?
A Mac notebook or desktop with a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt connection
A Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort cable
A supported iMac with OS X 10.6.1 or later. The table below shows iMac computers that support TDM, the required cables, and the port of the computer to which you are connecting the iMac.
    iMac Model
    Cable Supported
    Port on Source Computer
    iMac (27-inch Late 2009)
    Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort
    Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt
    iMac (27-inch Mid 2010)
    Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort
    Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt
    iMac (Mid 2011)
    Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt
    Thunderbolt
    iMac (Mid 2012 and later)
    Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt

Note that the iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) does not support Target Display Mode.

  • MEGA PC And Dual Screen

    Hello everybody
(sorry for the faults i'm french)
    I had a Mega-PC 651 whit a celeron 2Ghz, 512 of RAM, and a Geforce 4 card.
I would like to know if we can use the graphic chipset of the MegaPC AND a graphic card.(Because I would like to do a dual screen computer).
Help me please : firts to know if it's possible and secondly if you can give me a little Howto.
    Thanks creon

I haven't seen your card, but if the diminsions are anywhere near the same as my AIW, it's a pain in the @$$ to install; but not impossible.  If this was a 'normal' computer, my answer would be YES it will work, but because this MEGA180 has been nothing but a pain in the but, I have to say PROBABLY it will work.  I posed a fairly detailed description of what I had to go through to get my card installed, maybe reading that will give you some idea about what may need to be done in your case.
    Good luck

  • HT1758 Can i connect my non apple laptop to my iMac and use the iMac as an extra/dual screen while using my laptop?

Got a new laptop from work, no choice on the type, but want to plug it's docking station into my iMac so I can use dual screens while using the laptop. Can I use the Ethernet port for this?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Target Display mode only supports Late 2009 and Mid 2010 27-inch iMacs, and Mid 2011 and newer iMacs to use them as external displays, but it only works over Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt, not Ethernet.
Your PC needs Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt (depending on your iMac) to be able to use your iMac as an external display, so it is probably that you cannot use the iMac as an external display. Instead, look for information in the Internet about VNC viewers that allow you to do that

  • Portege R600 / A600 and Dual Screen Output

    Hi,
Could you tell me if it is possible to output to dual screens on the R600 or A600 with any of the Toshiba docking solutions?
I have been told it is possible however I was told today by Tosh sales that it is not possible to do. I'd like to do away with my home pc and office pc and just roam between the two with a notebook. However I do use an extended desktop on two screens and would need this to work.
    Any advice on this?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Not sure if you mean two screens plus the laptop screen or two including the laptop, but If it's any help, I use a Slim Port Replicator with my R500 running Vista and have a second monitor plugged into its DVI output. The two screens work fine as an extended desktop.
I also find it useful to install Ultramon (http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/). This adds a task bar to the second monitor.
