Wipe out and reinstall the OS however, I don't have the original CD's.

I'm giving my 13" MacBook Pro 5.1 (Intel Core Duo 2Ghz) to a friend and I'd like to wipe out (?) reinstall (?) whatever OS it came with however, I don't have the original CD's. I've backed up everything and just want a fresh install.
What are my options so they can have a "new" laptop? Where can I purchase the CD's?

Phone Apple Support and order them.

I am currently at 10.8.2.  I want to wipe out and reinstall. Do I have to go back to the original OS and build back up or can I reload 10.8x?

Restart with the Command and R keys held down, use the Disk Utility to erase the Mac OS X partition, and reinstall the OS from there.

You do realise that wiping the disk means that everything on the disk is erased. Everything. Photos, music, emails, ...
So the first piece of advice is to make sure you have a back up of everything.
You need the OS disk to reintsall the operating system. You will use that disk first to erase the drive, then to reinstall the OS.
Here's the link for the US.  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
As for MS Office, you will need the original disk that it came on to reinstall it.

  • InDesign CS3 crashes when I export a PDF. I have updated it to 5.0.4 but it still crashed. I bought it as part of the Design Premium pack. How do I uninstall InDesignCS3 and reinstall the original software?

Hi, the title says it all
I've been trying to find out on the Adobe site how to uninstall CS3 Design Premium and then reinstall the original software in the hope that this will eliminate the crashing problem, which only started yesterday.
You're help will be very much appreciated.

Run the cleaner tool and reinstall.
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Just be aware that none of this will matter if you are using a newer version of e.g. Acrobat that by ways of updates may introduce/ have introduced an incompatible version of one of the PDF libraries commonly shared and used by all Adobe programs. you have to tread lightly and be careful...

  • How can I remove the OS X Yosemite and reinstall the original Snow Leopard?

I recently installed OS X Yosemite and it is very slow and most of all it will not allow me to use Word and Most of my work is done on WORD. Can any one help? Can some one lead me on how to uninstall OS X Yosemite and reinstating the original Snow Leopard?

If you made a Time Machine backup or bootable clone of Snow Leopard, restore it onto a blank partition or drive. If not, insert a Mac OS X install DVD, restart with the C or Option key held down, and install it onto a blank partition or drive.
To erase or repartition the internal drive, use the Disk Utility, which is accessible from the Utilities folder(choose it from the Finder's Go menu) or when booted to the DVD or recovery partition.

  • I downloaded the web developer tool bar and after using it my images are gone. I use google and a home page and the big google is gone. I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it but I still don't have any images. How can I get them back?

Two days ago I downloaded the web developer tool bar (aus2.mozilla.com). I tried to use it but gave up. I deleted the tool bar.
I don't have any images anymore. I use Google.com as my home page (default) and the large GOOGLE isn't there anymore. I've also noticed some of the sites I use don't have the continue or next or enter keys anymore. It seems the only thing I have now is the text.

Are you sure you are looking at the Google page?? In Firefox 4.0 the default homepage / Start Page in Firefox was changed to '''about:home''' which looks a lot like the former www.google.com/firefox homepage.

  • I have had some problems with my iMac and had to wipe out and reinstall all my software, but for PSE-11 I get a message saying that there is a Configuration Error: 6, and to contact Adobe Support.  However, that rude agent told me I'd have to seek help vi

I just asked the questions above; do I need to ask them again?  I got an Error: 6 Configuration warning when reinstalling PSE-11.  The agent at Adobe said since it wasn't the latest version that he couldn't help me.  He said to try the forum.  So--anyone know what needs to be done to account for Error: 6?

  • Macbook Needs to be wiped out and reinstalled

I have a Macbook here with problems. Somehow my password was changed and i cant get into the laptop.
How can I change the account password? or
How can I wipe the Macbook out and reinstall OSX? all i have is the OSX install discs that came with the macbook. Can this be used to install OSX again? When i put the disc in, it says "Cannot use this disc to install".
    Any help?

NO i can get into the administrator account, but when i reset the password for my account, it says that it saves, but when i go to login with it, it says that you cannot login to that user at this time. • The church's iMac was registered by an employee who is no longer here. We need to update the OS to Lion and much of the software. Without his password, do we need to wipe and reinstall the OS? If so, how do I do that?

The church's iMac was registered by an employee that is no longer at the church. We would like to update the OS to Lion as well as some of the software. Since we do not know the password, is there a way to reset it it? Or do we need to wipe and reinstall the OS, register and then update? If so, how hard is it to reboot?

OK, thanks for that. Look on the original OS X install disc and see if that say Leopard 10.5.x or Snow Leopard 10.6.x. You advised in the last post the system is running 10.6.4, which is Snow Leopard. The most up-to-date version of Snow Leopard is 10.6.8, once we get your password changed we can work on getting it up-to-date.
So to change the administrators password  you will do the following:
Insert the Snow Leopard Install Disc into the SuperDrive and restart the computer , when you hear the Startup Tone hold down the Option key.
    Choose the SL Install Disc
    Choose the language
Select the Utilities Menu - Select Password Reset
Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume.
Select the user name of your original administrator account. (you can change this later!)
Enter the new Password (remember to re-enter in the second box)
Quit the app by hitting the Command - Q keys
Quit the Installer (Command - Q again)
    Restart

Not sure of an answer to your basic question, but it may be that you can run a repair (on Windows --> Control Panel>Programs & Features and run the repair on Acrobat). If that fixes the issue, at least temporarily, at least you will not be reinstalling everything -- a real pain.
Next, open Acrobat and go to the Help to run the updates and be sure you are current. On some OSs, the updates are critical.

I have replaced my faulty hard drive on my macbook air 1.1 with a new ssd, I need to reinstall the original software, where can I find this on the apple site?

There is no download for the software.  The factory software that you are looking for is called ilife.  It is all of the software that would have came preinstalled with your mac on your original hard drive when you first bought it.  You will have to get new software on your computer.  This might actually be a great opurtunity to upgrade to Lions.  Search the Lions software in the mac store and it will come up.  Click add to cart and check out.  The price for it is $20.  I defientely recomend Lions, it has alot of new great features.  Then wate for the install disk to come in the mail.  when it come just pop it in and follow the step by step instructions.  If you dont want to upgrade to lions however you can download the ilife package from apple.com for a small price.  Hope this helps.

  • Step by step instructions to wipe clean and reinstall

Hello. I am hoping somewhere on here, there will be someone who can direct me to step-by-step instructions to wipe clean and reinstall operating system.
iMac g4 (the dome model, which I still love). 7 years old. 10.2 operating system. It has been crashing repeatedly and I paid for diagnostics, they propose wiping clean and reinstalling, and I really need to do this myself and not pay for it.
Pretty please, I hope you can direct me. Thanks!
    Amy

    Amy,
Before going the *nuke route*, please post who did the diagnostics. Was it a "Genius" at an Apple Retail Store or a third party Mac Reseller?
What is the condition of the RAM (total)..... how much free space on the Hard Drive .... at what point in time did it start to crash ..... did it start after downloading some software .... have you tried Repairing Permissions .... do you run a maintenance Utility like Macaroni to clean up the OSX .... have you tried to run Repair Disk (HD) using the original Install disc of Jaguar .... did you ever update to the latest version of 10.2.8 ...... are you trying to access websites that do not support Jag?
As they use to say in Dragnet ....... "just give us the facts".

  • When I connect my phone iTunes tells me that I need to uninstall and reinstall a 64-bit version.  I have the 64-bit version installed.  Help

I have been fighting with iTunes for the past few days.  My wife deleted a file by "accident" and I have been working to get iTunes to work ever since.  I have worked through numerous issues and managed to work through them all, but have now hit one that I can't and that I can't find a solution elsewhere.  I have done the complete uninstall (complete meaning, very complete) and reinstall of the 64-bit version of iTunes several times now.  The software works fine until I plug in my old iPhone (4).  When I do, the software popps up with a message that says that I have the wrong version of iTunes and need to uninstall my current program and reinstall the 64-bit version.  Anyone else out there had this happen and if so, what did you do???

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now?
