Wiped my entire macbook drive and now snow leopard won't install over snow leopard server, HELP!

I ordered, what I thought, was Snow Leopard a while ago because I was running Leopard and I wanted to get the app store so I could move onto Lion and then Mountain Lion. I ordered the disc over the phone and the woman sent me the Snow Leopard Server instead of just Snow Leopard, I didn't think much about it so I clean installed it and ran it on my unibody macbook for a while. I didn't see much use for the disc anymore seeing that everything was downloadable at this point, so I sold the disc on Ebay and carried on. The server edition started to slow my computer down due to all of its excess applications and what not, and I read online that Lion and Mountain Lion are also very slow on the old unibody Macbooks so I ordered a regular Snow Leopard disc, now available online, and tried to install it. My computer said Snow Leopard cannot be installed over Snow Leopard server so I went to disc utitlity and wiped my entire drive while the OS X Snow Leopard disc was running and trying to install. I went back to the install window and it still said OS X Snow leopard cannot be installed over Snow Leopard Server so I shut down my computer and tried to turn it back on and I all I got was a blinking folder with a question mark in it, what do I do????????
P.S. All of my content is backed up on an external harddrive so I am all good with that.

Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
7. After formatting has finished quit DU and return to the installer. Complete the Snow Leopard installation.

  • I just upgraded my operating system on my MacBook Air and now my laptop won't detect my Toshiba 1T external hard drive

I just upgraded my operating system on my MacBook Air and now my laptop won't detect my Toshiba 1T external hard drive, how to solve this problem?

Try some of the troubleshooting steps outlined below:
    Troubleshooting an external hard drive
    > Unplug the hard drive, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in
    > Restart the computer
    > Unplug any other peripherals from the computer
    > Plug it into a different USB port
If none of those steps work, see if it is recognized in Disk Utility.
Checking a disk with Disk Utility
To check a disk using Disk Utility, launch the Disk Utility application in any of the following ways:
    > Type the first few letters of its name into Spotlight. Select it from the results.
    > Go Launchpad > Utilities > Disk Utility
    > Go Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
Once Disk Utility is opened, check to see if your external HD appears on the sidebar. If it doesn't appear at first, try the troubleshooting steps above again while leaving Disk Utility open, each time checking to see if the external HD appears.

  • TS1702 got sims free plays update and now my game won't even open. Can anyone help me with this ? tks

Got latest update in Sim's Free Play and now my game won't even open! Please Help !! tks

You might have better luck go to the developer's website since it appears to be a problem with the app not with the iPod.  Also, the developer would know about updates.

  • Lost my external hard drive and now Snow Leopard can't find it

I was doing some maintenance with Onyx (repair permissions, clean caches) and something happened to my external hard drive that I use for Time Machine. Snow Leopard no longer recognizes that the drive exists. It is not listed as a drive in the Mac HD window and is not listed in the Time Machine preference window as a choice for use by Time Machine.
I have already tried the following: (1) unplugged the external drive and replugged it into the back of my iMac (2) restarted the iMac both with and without the external drive plugged in (3) shut down the iMac and restarted both ways (4) pulled the plug on the iMac and restarted. Nothing works and the drive remains unrecognized. In all the attempts, I can feel that the external drive is spinning and it is still warm to the touch. It appears to be working.
    Can anyone help?

I am also having similar issues with my Mac Pro (OSX 10.6.3). I have been using a WD external HD for months now with my Time Machine, and I just today realized the drive is not showing anywhere on my Mac and the last backup was on 4/4/2010 (connected via firewire 400 port). Additionally, my old Maxtor drive I previously (not currently) used for Time Machine was also not shown anywhere. I then connected the Maxtor via a USB port instead of firewire, and it will now show in my Disk Utility but will not mount. I ran a "verify disk" on the Maxtor drive and no errors were found. The WD disk cannot be found even in Disk Utility. Getting nervous about my backups.

  • Reformated Hard-Drive and now my nano won't work!

I had a problem with my computer, so I reformated my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP completely. I lost everything, including my 500 song files for iTunes.
So starting over, I reinstalled iPod Updater and iTunes and I just finished putting all my cds back on iTunes - only 400 or so songs this time because I didn't back up all my music.
I wanted to plug in my ipod and set it back to factory settings so I can refill it because I know it might think it is another computer (and I know you can't do that), but when I do, iPod Updater doesn't recgonize it.
What's going on and how can I fix it?
    Dell Dimension 2400   Windows XP

UPDATE - My iPod's battery was WAAAY low and I turned it on real quick and plugged it in. On the screen it shows this weird charging thing, but I'm guessing its charging and iPod Updater recgonizes it but when I clicked RESTORE, it said cannot mount iPod.

  • TS1702 After installing the latest itunes, I can no longer sync Apps to my ipod touch. I have restored it to original settings and now old apps won't install please help.

My ipod touch will no longer sync apps since I downloaded the new Itunes. I have restored it to original setting in hopes that would work, but now I have lost all my apps and even old ones will no longer sync. Can anyone help?

What model iPod do you have? If yo have a 2G iPod. many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.

  • I manually uninstalled Photoshop CS6 Beta, and now Photoshop CS6 won't install.

Before I read the FAQ on how to properly uninstall the Photoshop CS6 Beta, I uninstalled it manually (by dragging it into the Trash on Mac OS X), and now when installing the CS6 Master Collection, Photoshop appears with an [!] that says "a conflicting or prerelease version of Photoshop CS6 is present on this computer. This must be removed before the installation can continue." I've tried deleting every file I can find with "Photoshop" in it, but to no prevail. What can I do?

    Jeff,
    The URL is:

I'd just add a line under:
Navigate to your /Applications/Photoshop CS6 folder
    to check Applications/Utilities/...
    for the other uninstaller.

  • A virus wiped out my hard drive. and now i have an empty library. how do I put files from iPod back into my library?

Why is my library empty once reloading iTunes on 'repaired' PC?
How do I get all my music from iPod to Library?

Pierre, South Dakota?  If so that's awesome.  Go South Dakota!
Anyways, the first thing you can do is transfer your iTunes purchases from your iPod Touch to your PC.  To do this, choose File -> Transfer Purchases in iTunes.  You should authorize your new PC before doing this by clicking the Store drop down menu and selecting Authorize this Computer. Then enter in your Apple ID/iTunes Store account credentials.
For all other content that was not purchased from the iTunes store, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different software available to assist you with this task.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452022?start=0&tstart=0
Finally, right->click on your iPod Touch under the Devices section in iTunes, and choose Backup.  Then after erasing and syncing your iPod, restore from that back up.  Or better yet, copy a backup from your old PC to your new one if at all possible. Here is more information on backing up and restoring your iPod .

  • I moved my music to external hard drive and now iphone 4S won't sync

I recently moved ALL of my media (music, movies, etc) to my external Seagate 1TB hard drive to free up 200+ gig on my Macbook pro. I followed all of the steps, everything works perfectly, iphone is recognized and syncs all playlists, apps, etc EXCEPT it won't add any new music since the transfer.
So for instance, I added a new playlist for the new NIN album. It sits in the exact same place as all of my other music, but when I sync the phone, it only syncs the older media and NIN is nowhere to be found on the iphone.
I've scoured every message board and blog I can find and can't seem to find the answer.
    Anyone??

    dividedbyzach wrote:
How is that possible? The itunes music folder is now called itunes media folder and that's what was dragged to the trash and deleted:
I can only go by what you wrote.
"I deleted everything in my music folder"
locate your original iTunes Media folder, and drag it to the Trash.
there is no longer any itunes music or media folder on my mac, only the external hard drive
I quoted from the article. That is not what I am telling you to do now.
. If I had dragged the wrong file to the trash previously, it would have given me a warning, no?
    No.
On your Mac, you should have an /Music/iTunes/ folder, yes?
If so, follow the steps I posted above.

  • I updated the video driver and now the screen won't come on? how can I roll back the driver when I can't see the screen?

I am running my Mac Book Pro with Bootcamp. Leopard on one partition and Windows 7 on the other. I updated the driver for the Nvidia video card then the screen went black. I tried to boot into the MAC side but the screen doesn't even show the optional boot screen. It does however sound like it's booting, I have tried hooking up a second monitor to see if it would show on that but it doesn't. I have also tried booting from the CD using the Win 7 disk, hoping that it would use the video driver on the disk instead. I'm either not doing it right (pressing ctrl & D whilst starting up) or that doesn't work either? I'm a bit lost? Don't know how to get to it.

Take your MBP to an Apple Store or an AASP.  If you are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare, suggest that you take advantage of it & call Apple tech support.

  • Used google drive and now the file won't work

I was in florida working on a windows PC in premiere pro cc i saved the file just like any other time and up loaded it to my google drive. When I got back to NY I downloaded said file and it won't open on my Mac i have premiere pro cc on both computers. How can I get this file to work, and is there a better way to send files like that i have a partner who live in FL and we will be sending files frequently. thanks for any help

Take it in to the Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.  Then your friend will be in  a position to make an informed decision.  We cannot give you any meaningful advice unless we can physically inspect the MBP.
    Ciao.

  • My mom sprayed hair spray near my screen and now i have dried speckles all over the screen. Help!

    Help!
I tried damp towel and pressure! Hans't worked!

Take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.
Liquid damage is not covered under Apple's standard 1 year warranty or Apple Care.
NOTE:  If you are out of warranty and purchased the computer with a credit card, discuss the warranty issue with the credit card company which you purchased the computer with.   They are the only ones who can at this point cover the computer after it goes out of warranty with the manufacturer (Apple).
If you have Homeowners insurance, place a claim with them.
