Wireless grayed out
Hi,
I have a iPhone 4s (for about 10mo - never had problems) upgraded to iOS 7.1.1; then on 5/19 while on facetime - wireless glitched out.
Re-booted the phone, reset wireless without success. The phone was under warranty and luckily I got a replacement. I had the old phone backed up and restored the new one from the back-up (as being told at my Genius Bar appointment). The phone worked fine until 6/24 when I turned it on and found the wireless grayed out again!!!! To keep the post short: I had another Genius Bar appointment got the phone replaced again. This time I was told I should not have restored my phone as it restored a glitch in the software... I should re-install apps, music etc from scratch... which I did.
I thought a restore would just restore settings, apps etc. but not the entire iOS (?)
Is there anything I should or should not do to prevent my wireless from going out again???

Basically it is a front-end for all the stranded tools like ifconfig, dhcpcd, iwconfig, iwlist, and stuff that is way it works so well.
It's terrific . Although the "GUI" is quite... minimalistic , it works perfectly. Unfortunately knetworkmanager still doesn't work, I have no idea what's going on. The hardware switch is on.

We use a Canon MX340 series printer/fax/scanner. My husband has his PC hooked to it and my daughter prints wirelessly from it with no problem with her non-Mac laptop. I have trouble printing. Often it does not print and I have to delete the job from the queue. Other times it will print OK but two-sided printing is always grayed out in my printing options. When I took it to the Apple store and printed on their network (selecting their printer) the two-sided option was available. Makes me think the printer is set up wrong, but I am not certain. A fw times at home when trying to print I got an error message about incompatible fonts, but it printed anyway after deleting the job and starting over. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks
OK, just an update.
Two years into this, I still find I can only do full duplex printing by using Windows XP running inside of VMWare. I've had occasional, ephemeral luck with duplex printing, but nothing long lasting.
I've tried this in Tiger and Leopard (now at 10.5.6), and I've had this issue with Canon printers MP780 iP4300 and MP610, direct connected to my Core2Duo 17" MBP. I also have this issue when printing over a network, but that's a much harder problem to solve.
Currently, this is my #1 most pressing issue for my Mac, because not being able to print from a computer when you print a lot is a really big drag, and using VMWare all the time is also a really big drag. Other people posting seem to be able to print in Duplex using the very same printers. What could be wrong with my MBP? I see the duplex box option, but most of the time it's grayed out as if my printer doesn't support duplex.
I've tried direct selecting printer drivers from the system preferences, but nothing seems to have an effect. And this is off of a clean Leopard install.
My wife now has similar problems with her new MBP - the Canon print drivers (CUSP & non CUSP) aren't allowing the Duplex box to be checked.
I am willing to pay good money to anyone who thinks they can fix this problem.

The Wifi button on my iPod touch is grayed out, and reads, "No Wi'Fi", but won't give me the option to change it. I reset the Wireless settings, but there were no rresylts. What should I do?

New apple wireless magic mouse & itunes playlists grayed out
Today I started using a new apple wireless magic mouse after installing the wireless mouse software.
Ever since that all my playlists in itunes are grayed out & I cannot play any songs from a playlist.
I have run disk first aid, rebooted, & still cannot resolve this issue. I am thinking of returning this mouse & going back to my original wireless mouse.
Anyone know why this mouse would cause itunes issues & how to resolve this?
I did go back to my old wireless mouse, rebooted the mac, then itunes & the issue was resolved.
I must be doing something wrong if I cannot use this neat new wireless mouse. Anyone know what it could be?I suggest you update to 10.5.8 (or change your signature), since teh magic mouse needs 10.5.8.
They won't be selling too many of these new "Magic Mice" if this issue isn't resolved.

If it was a problem, likely they would. Sounds like it is not the mouse but some setting on your system.
Have you checked the System prefs -> Keyboard & Mouse? And have you downloaded the latest -> Magic Mouse driver? -
Lost internet connection via time capsule, wireless signal grayed out. What may be wrong?
My mac mini started intermitently losing connection to the Internet. Checked settings, look OK, no changes. Wireless signal icon in the menu bar is sometimes full sometimes grayed out (no connection at all). Other computers connecting via the same Time Capsule without any problems. I've serched forums and tried some suggestions to no avail. My mini is core 2 duo 1.83 GHz, 2GB RAM. Snow Leopard up to date.
What may be wrong?Well, I reset the TimeCapsule to factory settings and configured it again for my home network and all works like a charm again.

HT4623 I updated my IOS and now I get grayed out wireless?
Ever since upgrading to IOS 6.0 I have not been able to use my wireless? I tried the reset network feature and messing with turning celluar data on and off. Nothing works. Hoping the Apple fixes this soon with an IOS update or I will get a new phone update. Samsung!

Just got a 16GB iPod Touch as a refurb. from Apple Store. I install iTunes, hook it up to my computer, follow all the instructions, and then after it's charged, disconnect it to begin using it.
First thing I do: try to set up the wi-fi. Only problem: I go into Settings and at the top, where it says "Wi-Fi" it is grayed out, and says "No Wi-Fi" next to it. In the About section, it says "N/A" for MAC address.
I have turned the unit off and on, performed a soft reset, a full restore through iTunes, and even paid the $4.95 to upgrade the OS to 3.1.2, thinking that version 2.x might be the problem.
Still... no Wi-Fi. According to Apple's site, refurbs are supposed to be fully tested and brought back up to factory spec before being shipped out. What hhappened to THIS unit? How'd it make it from China to my porch without anyone at Apple ever turning it on to see if the wireless chip in it even works?
Now I've got to go through the hassle and delay of exchanging it and waiting for the replacement to come in the mail from half a world away. Here's an idea, Apple... sell refurbished stuff that works with the guarantee that if it doesn't work or if it's defective, the customer is guaranteed a brand new unit as a replacement. Maybe that will light the fire under the techs to make sure they don't send out broken equipment as "Apple Certified."I completed the instructions in the linked knowledge base article. It did not fix the problem. Apple has agreed to replace the unit after I ship it back to them. I will now have to wait another week before another refurbished unit arrives from half-way around the world...
I think my problem with this whole thing is that Apple specifically touts the fact that refurbished units sold through their online store are extensively tested and will work like a brand new unit. Obviously nobody even turned this unit on and went to the basic "About" screen in Settings to see if wireless was working. They would have caught the problem right away.
This is a check that should have taken 5 seconds for a technician to perform and would have saved me the disappointment of having the first iPod I've ever owned be a lemon... and saved me another week of waiting for a gizmo that I had expected to be using already. Don't sell Apple Certified refurbished stuff unless you're going to actually turn it on and make sure it works!
My other complaint... the rubber seal between screen and metal case is bulging out at two corners. It looks shoddy and cheap. I don't know who worked on this particular unit, or if this is par for the course with Apple. If the next one looks shoddy too, or has any problems, it will be my last time trying to get an Apple iPod. I got refurbished since I don't have much money - and I just can't justify spending the amount they charge for a new one. One more try Apple... -
NAS drives grayed out and can't connect to other Macs
Hello All,
After upgrading my 15-inch, Mid 2010 MacBook Pro to Mavericks (10.9 13A603) my NAS storage drives are grayed out in Finder. I can't go directly to my NAS drive in Finder. I can't simply click on the NAS drives in Finder and see what is in the directory. The directories are grayed out!.
In order for me to connect to my NAS stotage drive I have to go to "DEVICES" on the leftside of the Finder window and then click on the MacBook Pro HD. From there I have to click on "Network." From "Network" I can get a slow connection to my NAS.
As for as connection to other Macs in my office, I have to take the same steps above. I can't connect directly to the other Macs in my office in Finder. Nether can the other Macs connect to other Macs! All Macs in the office are set up to allow both AFP and SMB. However, one lonely 2009 iMac in our office is still on Mountian Lion and it can connect to other Macs and the our NAS without problems.
One strange things this, I can do a Screen Share to the other Macs from my 2010 MacBook Pro! I can't connect directly in Finder, but I can do a Screen Share. Strange!
Is there a fix for this or was Marverick let out the jungle to earily?
Help! and Thanks!I forgot to add that everything was previously connected via an Airport express wireless system. I just got an Airport Extreme system which hasn't changed things a bit.

Why does only the first page of seach results show, with further pages graying out?
In a search, I may get >1,000,000,000 hits, but only the first page is readable. "Next" gives me a grayed out screen and FF freezes. Any of the offered searches at the bottom of that first screen will do the same thing. Repeated hitting "back" will clear it.
This has been true, through all the upgrades, including a backgrade to 3.6 (?) for 64-bit. This makes FF useless as a search platform, though it is my preference, even over Chrome, if it would work.

Use Automator - it has a "PDF to Images" action that will do exactly what you need. Drop your document into the workflow, drop the "PDF to Images" action in right after that, set any options that you need (like where to save) and then click "run"
Barring that, I've found that sometimes Adobe Reader will sometimes work well for documents that Preview can't print, and I've found some documents that Adobe Reader chokes on but Preview handles flawlessly. -
TWO WAY Sync is grayed out. Cannot two way synchronize BB.

When attempting to Configure Synchronization Settings for ASC II importer/exporter, the only options given are ONE WAY Synchronization either to or from the device. The one I want to pick:
TWO WAY Sync is grayed out.
How can I ungray the two way sync to be able to sync my outlook/tasks/address/tasks.
I will synchronization with a USB port, not through a wireless connection.
Thanks for any help.Hi, When using software Desktop manager to do a backup and/or restore, I have to disable the wireless syncrhonisation in the blackberry first to enable the 2 ways sync. Usualy, you can not use wireless and usb cable sync., so as an example, let`s say you want to sync the adress book. go into your blackberry and into your adress book application and press the "application" button, go into "Options" and change Wireless synchronisation to "No"
After that you should see the 2 ways sync.
When completed, do not forget to put back the wireless synchronisation to "Yes" to enable it back.

Unable to connect to internet - On-Board Ethernet Grayed Out
Hi,
This is my first post....
I have had my iMac for 2+ years and have had no issues. I recently updated to the beta version of Safari and had issues with hotmail not working. So I uninstalled and went back to the "old" Safari. When I did this iTunes stopped working. So I went into the Apple Store and it appears that when I uninstalled the Safari beta it did not uninstall the webkit properly. So at the Genius Bar they did a backup, re-installed the OS, and updates. They did it all within the store, using the store server, and wireless. When I got home and plugged in my iMac and connected it to my cable internet connection, I got no internet. My cable router does not show any signal, power on light on and cable light on, no data light. I was having no issue before I brought the iMac into the store. When I plug my work laptop (Windows, of course), the router lights up. Whenever I restart, or logoff, the iMac it goes straight to wireless trying to find a connection. I went into preferences and checked out the Network Ports, my FireWire, Bluetooth, and Airport are checked blue, but my on-board Ethernet is gray and cannot be checked.
Did my ethernet card go bad coincidently with me taking my iMac to the Apple Store, or did something get turned off when the updates were done at the Apple Store? Is there a "switch" I need to flip somewhere?

No signal from the router could definitely by the culprit. Try turning everything off, router (disconnect from power source), and the iMac. Leave everything off for about 5 minutes. Reboot the iMac, wait until it it boots to the Desktop. Turn the router back on and see if that makes a difference.

If you do this, make sure and repair disk permissions after the install. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.

I-phone 4s Cannot connect to wi-fi. The settings have grayed out!
I have updated to IOS 6.0.1. more or less one month now and everything worked fine up until today that I tried to connect to my wi-fi from home. At first it could not find any wireless network. I switched on and of the router and then even turned of and on with no result.
I tried to connect from my laptop to find out if something is wrong with my network connection, apparently everything is working well.
I tried again to switch on the wi-fi settings but this time the settings have grayed out!!!
As I can see a lot of people face the same problem so I can imagine that there is a general problem and its not my device...
Please fix it!!!

I just bought a used Macbook Mac OS X version 10.5.6 I am not able to connect to the internet because the only options it gives me are ethernet and bluetooth. I only have a wireless interenet connection and Airport is grayed out as an interface option in Network Prefrences I even tried to go into Airport uTilities and its says "AirPort Utility was unable to find any Apple wireless devices." I am currently on my own Macbook OS X with a different version and I have no problem connecting to my wireless through the airport. Can anyone help or do I need to take it to the apple store?
You should be able to get to your passwords if you are the admin.

Did you restart your computer afterwards?
Suggest that you cross-post in the AirPort where the AP users hang out if you are having problems.

hi. i have a cloud license for photoshop cs6 on the pc with windows 7. for my brush presets, color dynamics and dual brush (and some others) are grayed out. i cannot turn them on or off or lock or unlock them. I have one of the wet media brushes selected as i should but these items remain grayed out. does anyone know why this may be happening?
thanks.the (I:) drive is an internal SATA. it may not be a super fast drive, but i am using the same drive for the CS5 scratch drive (which isn't having performance issues). i gave CS6 and 5 the exact same scratch disk settings. so i don't think that is an issue.

I've been using Photoshop CS 6 extended, version 13.1.2 x64, for several months. I've never had a problem using the 3D features (except I suck at it), but now my entire 3D menu has mysteriously been grayed out. I can't perform any 3D tasks. My video card, drivers, RAM,etc... all appear to be working fine. In fact, everything else in Photoshop appears to work fine. Any suggestions? Please?
YES... already in RGB mode, Maybe this "system info" can provide a clue. Photoshop 3D has worked fine for the past 6+ months. All system and hardware tests "pass." I can't find anything wrong with the computer. No new software installations, etc.... Nonetheless, Photoshop 3D has recently become disabled/grayed out. Graphic card is (was already) updated. 1300Mb available VRAM. The only change I've made was install about a dozen free textures in the past month??? Sure would like to get my 3D back. Thanks
