Wireless surveillance security cam

I am interested in setting up video security system on the base of my G5 (1.66 GHz). Looking for:
1) cheap wireless solution for cam on commonly used battaries or rechargable ones
2) with motion detector and may be sound,
3) range up to 60-120 feet, passing thru concrete walls
3) easy to connect to G5 (either via Bluetooth - might be too short range, or Wi-Fi but do not have the capability as for now, or some receiver device connected to G5 via USB)
Any ideas or suggestions? May be you have somthing like this already?
Thanks

Hi all. I want to set up an outdoor web/security cam and a wireless model would be ideal, as I want to be able to put it in different locations.
There seem to be many PC-compatible wireless cameras, but are there any which are compatible with the Mac OS? I don't really want to get into Boot Camp / Parallels territory if possible.

  • Wrt160n with Axis 207w wireless wifi security camera

I can't see the linksys wrt160n in the setup of my wireless security camera. I have the router in default settings, with ssid broadcast enabled. I have tried the different settings, with Radio Band Standard Channel Network Mode. But never do I see the router in the setup of my camera. I see all the other routers in the street and have used the camera for years with my 3com wireless-access point. Wired the camera works fine with the router.

You should use a unique SSID name do not use Linksys. Lets say you use Canadian as your SSID  When you view wireless network Canadian Secured network should appear in wireless network or profiles for your camera.
It does not matter if there is more than one network showing in the list.  It matters that you connect to the correct network.

  • Video Surveillance - Security Camera System

    Hi,
Wondering if anyone knows of a MAC compatible system or option... I have searched the forums but can't find anything specific to what I want. I have found capture cards and software for my PC... but I want it for my MAC, mainly because I like the stability of my G5 over my PC...
thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi jagered-
I've actually been pondering putting my dp2.7 G5 to work as the security monitor. There are some folks that claim to have fairly elaborate systems set up this way.
Depending upon the interface of the camera, you can get USB and FireWire PCI cards with 4-6 ports on each card. If the cameras are wireless that can work as well. There are also wired and wireless internet cameras that might fit the bill.
I have this Windows program that came with a DLink camera I bought that monitors up to 4 wireless cameras. I've used it with two cameras myself. Most of the little web-cams on the market have some kind of built-in web-server that makes for far simpler video uploads to a networked Mac.
My experience with any setup is that wireless is an overrated feature for a camera and going with something wired, if possible, is always preferred.
I have found this site helpful: MacWireless

  • Wireless IP Security Camera for Mac

We have an unfotrunate situation with a neighbor and need a wireless IP camera  to work with our apple airports. Does anyone have any recomendations for a camera we can plug into the usb port in our car and record the video onto our mac? I've looked at many cameras on google but am confused. We need something to record overnight in a lighted parkade from inside our car window. This mightbe another  way to put our apple products to good use if it can be done. Thanks, Sue

I asked because we do not want to recommend any cams that may confuse you even more.  The more details we have on why you are confused the better.
Check out this website which may offer some suggestions:  www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage1.html.  EZJim's site mostly deals w/iSight and various other video methods.  He actually hangs out in the iSight forums which is where you can possibly post to him.  He's there quite regularly.  He's the most likely person here who can perhaps offer you many suggestions.

  • Wireless security cam

    hi,
I am planning to install several wireless security cams at home, and the one from linksys seemed  a good choice to me.
I am looking for a specific feature that I am not able to find any explanation on. In the features I see that I am abe to watch live immages remotely, and record those live images. What I am also looking for, is that the system can automatically takes and record immages, even when I am not connected to the cam.  assumethat there is a stranger in  our house, I wantthose images t be recorded at a later stage so that I can see who has been there.
Is that possible with the linksys cam?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Koen

Yes,using the motion detection feature on the linksys camera it is possible...Some good linksys camera are WVC54GC,WVC54GCA,WVC80N.

  • Wireless security camera

Is there a wireless security camera that requires no PC, just works directly with my Mac & new Airbase ?

I briefly tested SecuritySpy and it seemed to work pretty well. If that doesn't seem to fit your needs, you search MacUpdate for something like "security camera" you'll find other applications.

  • Wireless surveillance camera for 350mHz G4

I am looking for a wireless surveillance camera to monitor my home using my old G4. Are there any Mac solutions out there? It seems like the good cameras are only PC compatible.

I don't see why the platform should make a difference if the camera is wireless. If you can use a USB camera, any that support the USB Video Device Class will work without special drivers on a Macintosh. The Logitech QuickCam Pro supports the USB Video Device Class specification.
Panasonic has a wireless camera with a web server built-in, so you don't need the computer at all to use it. I have the older wired model, which allows you to zoom, pan, and elevate from the web interface. Although a lot of sites list them as "for PC", it's a web based interface and has no Windows-specific features.

  • Monitoring a security camera

Have you had experience connecting a security camera at home and monitoring it through Safari? My home configuration is a Mac Pro hard-wired to a router, though the router is also wireless. Ideally the camera would establish a wireless link to the router. While away from home, I'd like to be able to open a browser window into the camera, using my Macbook Pro. I have no iSight camera on the Mac Pro at home. Though less convenient, I could attach a camera to the Mac Pro through some port. Thanks!

    (1) If you want to shop for one of the widely available dedicated internet security cameras, be sure that both the hardware and the software that is bundled with it are compatible with your internet service, router, Mac, and Mac OS version. If you ask, the seller should be able to guarantee compatibility or explain exchange privileges before you buy.
    (2) If you want to use a webcam operated by your Mac Pro, see this link for camera possibiities:

and this link to find some webcam/surveillance/nanny cam apps that may do what you want:

EvoCam is one of the more popular apps that let you monitor security via an internet browser like Safari. Security Spy is another, but it currently has a know issue with the Safari browser when running Snow Leopard. Security Spy's download page lists certain other browsers are compatible now. Regardless of which app offers the features you want, carefully review System Requirements and compatibility info in their web pages for current status.

  • Port forwarding security cameras WPA2 blocked?

I just bought an Airport Extreme router and set up port forwarding for home security cameras.
When I have no security - I can access the cameras remotely (iPhone) and locally with no problems on my iPhone. However, when I add on WPA2 security everything gets blocked. Is there a firewall or feature inside the AEBS that needs to be modified? Help!

The fact that you can access the cameras remotely verifies that the port settings are correct on your AEBS.
Wireless security does not use ports as it is a local network feature so no additional base station settings should be required.
The issue appears to be with your iPhone Wi-Fi connection when wireless security is enabled. WPA2 is supported with all iPhone models.
I would recommend at this point to change the security password to see if this resolves the problem. Temporarily try the following as the base station's Wireless Security password: 0123456789abcdef0123456789
Note that there are exactly 26 characters. If this works, go ahead and change the password. I would recommend one that contains a combination of 26 letters, numbers, & punctuation marks without using any spaces.

  • ISight as storefront security camera

I'm curious as to whether anyone can recommend (or advise against) any software programs that would allow me to use my iSight camera as a security camera for a retail store. My goal is to be able to request a near-live feed into the store at any given time, and for footage to be compressed down and stored on a web server for retrieval for about 48-72 hours.
Are there programs that are compatible with Mac OS / iSight to accomplish this?
    TIA.
Edit: I suppose a web video chat through iChat would accomplish the 'on-demand' goal here; not to muddy the waters, but is there a way to have iChat automatically accept incoming video chat requests?

... software programs that would allow me to use my iSight camera as a security camera for a retail store.Scroll down to the links in the iSight as a surveillance or Nanny cam: section of Some Applications You Can Use With iSight. One of those may do what you want.
... is there a way to have iChat automatically accept incoming video chat requests? In iChat AV 3, the answer is yes, but it requires editing your iChat AV preferences folder outside iChat AV.
According to "LHS", who posted in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1348622&#1348622, it also works in his 10.3.9 iChat AV 2.1.
The "Terminal" method is explained in 10.4: Automatically accept video chats in iChat
Another way is to use an application like the "Property List Editor" included in the Apple Developer's Tools (if you have installed that.) You can use Property List Editor to edit the AutoAcceptVCInvitations value in your com.apple.ichat.plist file.

  • Accessing Security Cameras Remotely

I have security cameras attached to a DVR. The DVR is plugged into my Airport Extreme. I have a static IP address from my ISP. I am vaguely aware that I need to assign the DVR a local IP address and use port forwarding to access the DVR remotely. However, I have had zero luck getting this to work.
    Help!

There are two basic steps for configuring port mapping: 1) Assigning a static (or DHCP-reserved) IP address to the host device ... in this case the security camera, and 2) Configure port mapping on the router.
    AEBSn - Port Mapping Setup
To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
    1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the camera.
    Internet > DHCP tab
o On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
o Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
o Reserve address by: MAC Address
    o Click Continue.
o MAC Address: <enter the MAC hardware address of the camera>
o IPv4 Address: <enter the desired IP address to be reserved for the camera>
    o Click Done.
    2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
    Advanced > Port Mapping tab
o Click the "+" (Add) button
o Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
o Public UDP Port(s): <enter the appropriate UDP port values>
o Public TCP Port(s): <enter the appropriate TCP port values>
o Private IP Address: <enter the IP address you reserved in the previous step>
o Private UDP Port(s): <enter the same as Public UDP Ports or your choice>
o Private TCP Port(s): <enter the same as Public TCP Ports or your choice>
    o Click "Continue"

  • Airport Extreme + Security camera

    Hi,
Need a bit to help. I purchased a DCS-2121 D-Link home security camera with the intention to set it up and allow it to record images when triggered by its motion detection.
    Hardware:
    DCS-2121 D-Link home security camera
Airport Base Station (white dome version)
    Virgin Broadband
    20' iMac (Intel)
    After quite a struggle, I eventually got the camera to work wirelessly and was able to view the camera from most web browsers (i was quite pleased with myself). I then wanted to record the images, the camera setup gave me two options;
Record to an SD Card (slot in side of camera), or
(ii) Record to a Samba Network Drive
The easiest option, I thought, was the SD card option. After checking the boxes on the setup menu for this option and putting the sd card in the camera, I was quite disappointed that no images were stored on the sd card after a days worth of recording. Any thoughts?
I then progressed onto the second option for recording, "Samba Network Drive". This started to feel a bit out of my knowledge range but I gave it a go. The setup menu asked for a USERNAME, PASSWORD, SERVER and SHARD FOLDER. This is where I got confused! What is required to get this recording to a folder?
Ideally, could a memory stick be placed in the spare usb port in the Airport Base Station and record the images onto it? This option would negate for a computer to be left on if recording via the Samba method.
    I would appreciate anybody's advice.
    Thanks,
    Robert

SMB is basically windows file sharing. You'll need to enable this on your mac in system preferencess/sharing. See this for more info:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1812
I'm pretty sure airport disks are shared via SMB by default in "WORKGROUP" (it's been a while). Though memory sticks don't always work well with airport base stations.
    For the other information:
Username: Username of your mac user account if accessing the computer, not sure what goes here if you're sharing via airport.
Password: The appropriate account password, or the airport disk password.
Server: The computer name or airport name. I don't think SMB uses spaces, so I'm pretty sure it translates names like "Mac Mini" into "Mac-Mini"
Shared folder: The name of the folder being shared
If you've got a windows computer, this can be tested out pretty easily by going through it's network places and into Workgroup to see if everything is shared properly.
